The Seelbach was the most beautiful wedding venue!...

The Seelbach was the most beautiful wedding venue! My wife and I could not have chosen a better place to get married. We chose this place because of the literary history of 'The Great Gatsby' and we're happy we did. The staff, led by Heather Roney, was incredibly kind, fun, professional, and made sure every one of our needs was met. If I could attach a photo of how beautiful the Rathskeller was, I would do it in a heartbeat. Please take my word for it that it was the most incredible place to get married. Again, thank you, Heather and the rest of the incredible Seelbach staff!

My brother got married here-- beautiful space for it! They were very accommodating of the photographer. The lobby is worth a visit and so is the bar. If you are able to visit the basement, the decor is super interesting. Very old fashioned, but fun.

Did not stay in the hotel but stopped in the bar for a drink while doing the urban bourbon trail and recieved the worst service I've ever had from a bar. If your not wearing business clothes you might as well not go in becquse the bartender will blatantly ignore you. Will not ever return to this establishment worst bar service of my life.

The place is a must visit in Louisville. I was expecting the bar to be a little more eloquent, but it was still good none the less. The bartender was very knowledgeable and gave us a brief history of their different cocktails. I might recommend trying a drink called the horse's neck. It is an interesting take for a bourbon drink.

Was in town for a work event at the hotel and stayed there. This is my second time staying at the hotel and they don't disappoint. They are very clean, and accommodating. I hope to be back again soon!

The stay at Seelbach is nothing less than very warm and comfortable. The hotel is a master architectural work, very lavish and detailed. The location has a rich history in every aspect from politics to literature. The rooms are not too large but they are well laid out and spacious enough. The good thing is the showers are not noisy and you would not notice if the room next to you were using the facilities. The rooms though lack a mini bar, but that is not a deal breaker. They have shuttle service to and from the airport and other close locations. The area is very lively and surrounded with bars and restaurants and local Louisville attractions. The staff are friendly and warm. There is a gym but not hot tub or pool. Overall a pleasant experience.

The staff was pleasant and our room was clean. We were first checked into a room that was already occupied but that was fixed quickly. Had some very loud neighbors. The complimentary breakfast was barely average.

Beautiful hotel however staff was not helpful and very snooty and note you have to pay $18 a day for parking. Thought I was getting queen beds and they gave us double beds and there was no refrigerator in room.

Very friendly staff. They go way beyond in making sure guests feel at home. Had a wonderful stay! I have been traveling for around 12 years and this is my number one hotel for the great hospitality, the work they put in to keep up on this historic place, and going out of their way to tell about the history! 5 star!!

Great old hotel, but we had a couple of concerns. The bed was old and lumpy (not what you'd expect of a high end hotel) and more concerning was the lack of a ceiling vent in the bathroom. Hot showers caused the bathroom to steam up, which has caused the window in the bathroom to have visible mold growth. The front desk attendants were awesome and went out of their way to help us late one night when we realized we'd forgotten a mouth guard and had to purchase another one across the street at CVS. They had boiling water delivered to our room at 11pm, which impressed us greatly. Very helpful!

Beautiful old hotel in Downtown Lousiville. It is one of the only buildings in the area with any charm or features.
The interior is lovely too - keeping a lot of its late Victorian or early Edwardian features. The lighting fixtures are something to look out for.
The staff were lovely and friendly.
The hotel has a lot of history and is where F Scott Fitzgerald wrote a lot of the Great Gatsby and also apparently Al Capone's south of Chicago hangout.
One star off for having a Starbucks off the foyer.

Classy place. Nice rooms. They did mess up my reservation even after I called and confirmed it the day before. (Wrong size bed in my room) also, they did nothing to make it right. The rooms were nice and in a great location to walk to 4th street.

This was my first stay at the Seelbach and it did not disappoint. The hotel is beautiful. From Amanda the valet who greeted me (who knew how to drive a stick!) to the front desk and concierge staff...all were very helpful and friendly. The lobby itself is worth a visit with its grand staircase and detailed carved ceiling. Thankfully they have kept the original character of the hotel and haven't made it too modern and ugly like others have done. I had a room on the top floor that I requested which had beautiful doors (perhaps original?) and moldings. The beds were also a reproduction of a period bed which was a nice touch. The bathroom was small with a modern looking stand up shower and it didn't really fit with the rest of the room but it was fine.

The only drawback was that the Oakroom restaurant has closed and there was no longer a fine dining restaurant at the hotel, but that will not stop me from making the Seelbach my go to hotel whenever I'm in Louisville.

Me and my SO stayed here for two nights. It is a beautiful hotel. The gym is great, I loved it. The room was clean, but not particularly special. Room service was fast and courteous. The TV was not the best quality... Had very few channels. Valet was okay, a bit pricey. Front desk personnel were great. Housekeeping was okay. Maintenance was good. Great location!! Right on 4th street live. Overall, no real complaints. Smooth experience.

The Seelbach is 1 of 3 historic hotels in Kentucky. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms are vintage compact. I wish this hotel would change out the mattresses. I've stayed here twice and had a rough night's sleep both times. I stay here due to my Hilton Honors, but prefer the service and rooms at The Brown.

Took my wife for a last minute overnight getaway before school started back. I picked this hotel because of the historic nature and the recent renovation. The lobby is very impressive. The room, although small was comfortable. The AC was a little loud. But the bathroom is so very small - I wish I could post a picture. I told my wife we would have to step out to turn around. She had to put her cosmetics in the room next to the TV because there was no space for them. But we had a blast, and everything is very convenient. The staff were excellent and although we did not ask for much, they really tried to offer the best service possible. They are building an Embassy Suites next door, and once that is finished we may stay there and just visit the Seelbach. Oh, most importantly, if you are a Hilton Honors member, the points required for award stay seemed very low for a Cat 8 property. I would not have paid the published rate for our room. All-in-all a worthwhile experience.

This place was very clean, fresh and extremely well-maintained when i was there in Sept. 2009. Just talked about it today. So the experience stuck with me. We went to see CSN at the theatre there. There were no bad notes on any part of the trip. I heard the ghost story later. I've had the dead talk to me (soliciting dead people to converse is a no-no, as i was taught), but no, she didn't show herself or talk to me. We had a few suites, so space was plentiful. Great service. Everything about the whole weekend went well. Odd area, tho. There wasn't much to do there. There was a small mall, but it was rigged to drinking/bars more than not, and we don't drink. That might have changed. I recall driving 20 miles to go shopping. Which was really bizarre. Downtown around the hotel area completely closed up after dark. Not even a CVS, or retail of any kind (back then?). Every building was in perfect shape, clean, no graffitti or anything, but zero signs of life, either. Very, very strange. I think the bar mall had a CVS. It also had a Col. Sanders. Meaning a guy who dressed up. He might have passed by now. He took photos for a few bucks w the tourists. I admit, that was a new one on me, lol.

This place was wonderful. The staff are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable people I have ever met in a hotel setting. They know the amazing history of the place they work, and many have been there for years. Walked through the grand ballroom...felt something creep up behind us....room had a direct line to the elevator the lady in blue fell down. Great place to stay!!

A place steeped in history. I visited briefly for a historic tour and was sorry I had never been inside this hotel before. Be sure to ask about the history of the building if you ever get a chance to visit.

Really neat hotel with some history. Incredibly close to great nightlife.

The rooms themselves could use a bit of updating. We had to change rooms after an extremely leaky shower, an AC that would cool, and a few glass shards on the carpet!

I had a very nice stay at the Seelbach. The historic and overal aesthetic qualities, as well as the service were very pleasant and satisfying. However I have one issue I would like to present to future residents, the wifi access in the lobby is free, it is not however free in the individual rooms... you have to pay extra for that in a room that costs at least $150 a night apparently. Meanwhile, my mother who stayed in a Red Roof Inn during this exact same trip had free wifi in her own room. My mother only payed $50 a night for her hotel with free wifi. So why should a hotel that charges $150 a night not offer free wifi in its' rooms? It's ridiculous that a hotel that costs $150 per night in a room should charge extra for wifi use while in that room especially since a lesser hotel or even motel that is 'pet friendly' and $50/night offers free wifi in each room.

The history of the Seelbach is reason enough for anyone to stay at or visit to magnificent hotel. I can say the staff and food are professional and delightful. Also, hosting or attending an event there will make you feel like the who's who of Louisville. This place is truly special!
