The best place for breakfast in the Pacific Northwest.
Been going here since I was a child. Best breakfast you can have and it is made with only fresh real ingredients! Actually get real cream for your coffee.
How can you only take cash and not be open daily? It s 2018. If you were in Sweden you d be closed. The banks don t even dispense cash in Sweden anymore. You re not a Farmers market merchant, for goodness sakes. The food is good, but how can you really mess up breakfast that badly. I feel like this place acts like they re doing you a favor being open considering their customer inconveniences.
The Original Pancake House. Barbar Blvd. I love to have bacon. I received 4 good size slices with 3 eggs and pancakes. I you used to receive the same in Salem. Now only 3 and .50 more???
Get there early and get some killer potato pancakes. Only downside is that you need cash, and it's not super cheap.
Great breakfast food, huge portions, never been disappointed. Can get packed at times.
Excellent service and great food We had an amazing time
Consistently delicious pancakes, bacon, eggs, and coffee! Quick service! Only downsides arer occasional long waits and remember cash or check only.
Never disappointed. No matter what you order, it is fantastic.
Food is great but beware-no credit or debit cards accepted and there is just a very small sign saying so...I had to leave and come back to the place to pay them after I found an ATM. What a hassle...
The worst restaurant I have ever been to. I do not know how this place even exists! Prices are so ridiculous and the food wasn't even good. I am in utter shock at how many people eat here. Not worth it at all!
Iconic, this is the ORIGINAL location of what is now a good-sized chain. MANY varieties of excellent pancakes.
Great food and excellent service definitely going back !
Expensive !!
Orange juice - $6.00
Toast - $6.25
One egg - $5.00
Sliced banana - $7.00
They don t serve hash browns or eggs Benedict, which is the main reason we go to other locations.
Worst location for sure.
This establishment has maintained the same high quality standards since I originally discovered them many years ago.
Excellent food. I had the apple pancake which was delicious and big enough to share! Fresh squeezed orange juice is the best I have had.
The BEST Breakfast place in Oregon and in my opinion the world. Johnna is an amazing person to have but really the all do an amazing job
Excellent food, though it s pricier than I like. Combined with the cash or check only policy, that s the only thing that makes me hesitate to recommend.
We could've lingered Saturday morning, but it was amazing to get coffee, order, have our delicious apple pancake brought in what seemed only seconds, and be back in our car within a half-hour of sitting down.
Best place for breakfast. I've never had a bad meal here. Definitely worth the wait that usually ecists.
The food might be exceptional, however, no one should ever be treated the way my wife and I were treated.
Went in with my wife and requested a specific table from the host. We were told the wait could be long, but we didn't mind waiting for the table we wanted.
20 minutes went by when another couple came in and was immediately seated at the very table we were waiting for.
The host and staff are completely brainless when they give away the very table promised to a waiting customer.
We were so annoyed our table was given away right in our presence as though our request for it, and promise from the host that we'll get it, fell on deaf ears.
We will never return again nor will we recommend this establishment to anyone.
John Siri and Kendra Burgess
The first original pancake house. The atmosphere is good and the pancakes are really good. The omelet may not fit the Japanese taste.
Yes, they only take cash but they have an ATM machine in the lobby just like the medical marijuana store around the block. Entrees all come with three tasty pancakes. I recommend the green Chile omelet with pepper jack cheese.
Amazing place! My mothers been looking for Buckwheat pancakes for awhile and we found them here! Delicious. Great coffee and you can buy this, which I did to take home. I had the Bacon pancakes. Superb! Great service. Cozy atmosphere. Cant wait to try again.
Decent food, vastly over priced, cash-only policy puts them off the go-to list permanently.
I would eat here every meal if it wouldn't kill me from a diabetes heart attack.
The Dutch babies!! Wow...oh and the beacons awesome!
I have been an occasional customer since the mid 70's, when the owners lived above the place.
The Original Pancake House really stands alone in the world of great breakfast houses. Not to say there aren't others worth five stars, just in different ways. The OPH has resisted many of the cultural changes in breakfast fare, and given a nod to some. They do some of the classical breakfasts, and they do them as well as they can be done. They also have an unusual assortment of imaginative breakfasts that are also great. They use the finest ingredients in everything they make. They have expanded their menu over the years. One such addition is the Irish Omelette, a very hearty fare of corned beef and real cheese. Their omelets begin in the fry pan but end in the oven. Where have you seen that before? Why nowhere, and the effort pays off in spades. Their mushroom omelette is also pretty incredible. If your breakfast tastes run to the sweet, there is so much to offer. And you can't just ignore their famous German pancake that is baked with Granny Smith apples and coated with sinkiang cinnamon glaze. Whatever that is, it's spectacular.
If you want to dive into the deep end of sweet breakfast, they will not disappoint, with items like the Tahitian Maiden's Dream and many more.
Fresh squeezed OJ is another treat, and I love their coffee, which is on the strong side. Ya, no credit cards, but deal with it. It's worth it. It is also a bit on the pricey side. But as I said, they do many things as well as they can be done. That costs more for ingredients and labor, and our family finds it worth it. A real treat.
The apple pancake and the Dutch baby are to die for. But please don't. They don't serve these gems in prison.
Always the best!! Apple pancake and hubby Irish omelet..worth the wait!!
It's a cozy place. Great gluten free pancakes! I always go for the egg plates because it comes with pancakes.
Decor is country style. Eggs are very fluffy! Very tasty. The pancakes are delicious!! Prices are a little steep.
For the longest time, through thick and thin, this establishment remains as the breakfast place to go to in the Portland metro area.
Awesome breakfast. But the cost for their coffee is expensive.
Food is great. However it is so noisy you have to yell at your table mates to have a conversation.
The food there was extremely delicous. I tried the banana pancakes and were even more tastier than expected. I highly recommend everyone to try out the pancakes there. Oh and the entire crew are very friendly . Bon appetit
I had only been to the OPH in Champaign, IL (which we LOVE), so it was quite a treat to eat at the Original! The corned beef hash omelette was phenomenal. Yum!
Got 3 pancakes and it was around $10. Was a little disappointed with the price but I tell you what I can sure eat and they filled me up only finished 3/4 of them until Ibwas full. Not only that best damn pancakes ever!
Wonderful food service! No credit cards accepted if only weakness.
Best Omelette ever . Will most certainly go back to try something new on the menu
The food here is incredible. Top notch ingredients and time tested recipes. I knew the chef that started the other locations, and he was fanatic for quality. I love the apple pancake, and bacon plus coffee. The service is impeccable. It does not get any better than this.
Great food and friendly service. Usually a lot of people waiting for tables but there's always space at the community table.
Well this is the original original pancake house. If you are visiting on weekends be prepared for a long wait as this place is very popular with the local crowd. With locations now in Japan and Korea ours great to visit where this comfort food place started.
The pancakes are great but the green chili omelette was just a glob of molten cheese.
This is my favorite pancake place. I always get the Swedish pancakes since I dont like any other pancake. Every time I order it's been delicious, and the bacon is pretty good too.
Crowded, but worth the wait. Remember it's a cash or check only place.
This is the "first", the "initial", the "starter", the "pre-franchise", the beginning place, the "Original", Original Pancake House
Delicious food... Wait is a little much though. If wait implies busy-ness, so does their service. They were nice enough, but obviously busy.
Tables are too small, hardly have room to put foods and condiments. Looking forward for hash brow potato like other OPH in other states.
The food was great -- to be expected as it was a food network feature. The one caveat: they gouge you on price! Moreover, the place has so much traffic that you better make sure you ordered right at the beginning. It's definitely tough to get a waitress. Great experience, but I wouldn't become a regular.
Huge menu. Amazing fresh seasonal fruit bowl. Very large portions. Good service. Busy. Plenty of parking. Family friendly.
The Original Pancake House has been open since the 1940s. I have been eating there since 1980 and have to say it is a place that I go to eat in order to treat myself! I love the Big Apple which has about six eggs brown sugar apples delicious goo, etc. Their bacon is the best in Portland... VERY meaty and flavorful. Finally, the service is as fine as you will find in any restaurant.
My family and I fell in Love with the Original Pancake House. Service was stellar and breakfast was soo good.
Simply the best pancakes. This is the *original* Original Pancake House, and it's the best location of those I've been to. The house is charming and the staff are all great.
Be prepared for two things: long waits to be seated during typical breakfast times and weekends (food comes quickly once you're at the table, though), and it's cash only (they do have an ATM onsite).
Tip: You can upgrade the meat and eggs options to any type of specialty pancake for a nominal charge. If you'd like to have eggs/meat, this is a great option rather than adding sides to the pancake entrees. The bacon, sausage, and ham are all very good.
I can't believe the waiting time, I waited almost 50 minutes and there was not available table for 6, I just left I was so hungry almost passed out
Still the best, I liked Dutch baby. It's very delicious
This place is so good. Decent pricing, good portions, delicious food, and friendly staff.
Best pancakes I ve ever had! Very clean and excellent service. Soooo much better than the hotcake place on Powell.
Picked up food to go. Big portions! Apple Baby very rich but good!
The Original is still the best! Plan on a short wait for a table-if they're busy. Many different types of delicious pancakes; portions are LARGE
Still my favorite for pancakes as it has been since I was a young girl! They never disappoint.
One of my favorite low key restaurant I enjoy eating at. Good freshly made breakfast .. the food is great!
Place feel very cozy like home, excellent food and lovely staff.
A great place for breakfast! Love the Dutch oven pancake!! Food tastes great and really good service!
Not too much room for all the chairs and tables that are in the small dining room. CASH ONLY!! But they have an ATM on site, but you ll pay $3.50 service fee to get cash out! The parking lot can also get full quickly.
