The sea lion show was very simple and cute, and it didn't appear that animals were being exploited. They have a moray eel there, but he was hiding, and I missed him. That was dissappointing. We also missed the feeding of the penguins, but we were there late.

I slept on this gem for too long I'm a native Brooklyn night and I hadn't been to the aquarium since I was a child. I was truly missing out. it is such a testament to wildlife conservation it's so beautifully maintained and educational and informative.

The NY Aquarium recently reopened after being closed due to the COVID Pandemic. I went on Friday, 8/28/2020. They highlight the precautions and how they re enforcing social distancing and mask wearing, but upon my visit, I saw they weren t really doing that. Only place I saw any enforcing of mask wearing and social distancing was in the amphitheater show. Even with the online reservations, crowd control , and timed tickets, the aquarium was PACKED. The lines for Spineless and Sharks had absolutely no social distancing at all, everyone was standing extremely close to each other, just like standing in a line before the pandemic. Loads of people walking around without masks on. Absolutely no one was enforcing social distancing or the mask wearing. And the hand sanitizing stations were empty! WHAT?! 3/4 of the stations I went up to to get hand sanitizer had nothing in them. Inside the exhibits, it was packed with no room to even socially distance from others. Everyone was so close to others, not wearing masks. Again, saw no one enforcing, even inside the exhibits! How do you say you re taking precautions and prioritizing safety when you re not even doing your job right?!

Had a fun day with family, but the aquarium seemed lacking. They're apparently still rebuilding in the aftermath of Sandy and you can definitely tell.

It didn't feel like there was much to look at fish wise, and the shark tank was pretty depressing (with promises of a great new one under construction). The live show with the sea lions was pretty good. The staff seemed really into it.

If you're nearby anyway it's worth a stop, but definitely not worth the trip if it's your only destination.

Look forward to it's future though. Hope to head back after the construction.

Great place to take the kids. The new shark exhibit is absolutely stunning! The sea lion show is super cute also. I love that it's right off the Coney island boardwalk so you can take a walk by the beach before or after the visit.

As a paulistano, I was not very impressed.

It's a beautiful, well-organized place (like almost every attraction in NY), with a short sea lion show that kids can enjoy. When I went there was a shark exhibit, and you could see the water over a tunnel.

Anyway, for paulistanos, at least, would not classify this trip as a must.

took so long to build this place and its to small.its nyc!!! not some tiny town upstate.lines are crazy place is just too cramped.shark tunnel should be much longer .worst part is the black tar ground they put throughout entire place.so your family bakes in the sun all waiting online to see a small aquarium with all the same sharks in every tank

LISTEN TO ME:

LISTEN TO ME:
1. Do not go there when the aquarium offers discounts. You are literally donating the entrance fee. There were way too many people allowed in a small area. It is literally a fire hazard and I do not understand how the State of New Jersey allows this.
2. They sell water in a can and at a high price. Why do they sell water to a can? Because they have a water fountain station that will refill your water for free.
It too me longer (Manhattan East) to get to Coney Island then the time spent in the aquarium. I would never ever go back. It was the worst aquarium I have ever been too.

A great family experience. They have many tanks and animals to see. Not as large as some other aquariums, but they are expanding. Right on the Coney Island boardwalk so you can take the family elsewhere afterward.

Great stuff! Beautiful fish, rays, and sharks! The sea lion show is good too. Nice way to spend the afternoon. When you're done, stroll the boardwalk or hit Coney Island to enjoy some rides!

Whole lot of fun for the family. Clean, easy to get to and not that crowded if you go early. Note, they're still making repairs to their property from Hurricane Sandy, so not all exhibits are open, but it's still a really fun time.

I like how they renovated the sharks' exhibit, although there are just a few small sharks there. Haven't been to the aquarium for may be 5 years. It looked smaller. The sea lion's show was only 10 min long and they didn't show much tricks (was mostly talking). Many of the animals are no longer there. Too sad.

They had quests for kids, which is pretty cool. Makes you go around the whole place and teach the kids things.

Everywhere they talked about how important is to decrease plastic consumption but the gift shop was full with plastic toys, not to mention that the stuffed animals had at least 3 plastic tags.

Good

Very little to do, majority of the time you spend it making a line. Got there at 4 and they were closing down the food kiosks and everything else, wouldn't even sale ice cream to their costumers already waiting in line. Very disappointed.

Love the new shark exhibit. Definitely an experience. Yes there are long lines, but it's the summer. Tickets are half priced until September. My family and I enjoyed it. Still a few exhibits under construction from the damage of Hurricane Sandy. But it's definitely worth a visit.

Had a blast here. Literally could have spent the whole day with just the otters. The massive aquariums are amazing. The boardwalk outside the aquarium is a little depressing though. Too many closed shops since the hurricane.

By the reviews I thought this aquarium was going to be tiny, but it's a decent size it just gets crowded. Beautiful display of fish, sharks exhibit was beautiful and seal show was great. They encourage nature conservancy and recycling in all that they do and I really appreciate that. I would definitely come back.
