Superb collection of paintings upto the 19th century.
Superb collection of paintings upto the 19th century.
Good heritage and archives of historical paintings that have insights into artistic prowess and development of early century European artists.
A great collection of art, particularly given free access!
Some beautiful paintings but it also had a lot of religious pieces to many for my liking. But definitely worth a see if you are into art. Masters of there time.
Gaugain portraits well worth the visit. Da-vinci was not.
A must see museum if you like art. The collection is overwhelming in size and scope, Master work and near master works abound, The Monet exhibit currently on display is the best I have ever seen. Make sure you get a map so you can find your way around this wonderful collection,
The dining room is is very pleasant and offers an interesting menu, food is well prepared and very tasty. I had the ravioli with burratta and truffles that was delicious
Mesmerizing! Some of the finest art works history has ever known, and one cannot but wonder how this gigantic art shrine manages with free admission. Recommend with absolutely no reservations.
I like to,spend only 1-2 hours at a museum, see a limited amount and come again. You could spend a week here. The collection is extensive. This visit I enjoyed rooms devoted to late 19th century. The museum is arranged so wel its easily to find what you want to see. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are large and paintings displayed so they are easy to see and enjoy. Whatever period or genre of art you and enjoy it here
Great painting museum with plenty of stunning works on display. I appreciated that there was signage marking the big famous players of the galleries for those in a rush or those simply there to see Da Vinci or Michelangelo's works. If you have time, take your time looking through -- there are many underrated gems made by smaller names. You can easily get lost in the annals of Renaissance or Flemish paintings. The galleries really do need air conditioning, though. I went during an exceptionally hot week and the galleries felt like the innards of a toaster.
The new covid tours are very good with the staff ensuring people go the correct way. Masks and prebooking are essential.
Wonderful free gallery in the heart if London. Today we saw Degas's famous ballet dancers but there is so much to see.
There is step free access but it isn't that well sign posted so ask people and don t give up!
Always great to visit. Whether for the special exhibitions or the collections.
Coming from Italy usually creates a big gap to fill when you talk about art. This free museum definetely made it.
What else to say? A national treasure. One could spend weeks here exploring the artwork and the building itself is one, too. Whether tourist or native, regular visits are incredibly rewarding.
The National Gallery is an art museum in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, in Central London. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900. The Gallery is an exempt charity, and a non-departmental public body of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Its collection belongs to the government on behalf of the British public, and entry to the main collection is free of charge. It is among the most visited art museums in the world, after the Louvre, the British Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Sainsbury Wing, an extension to the west by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, is a notable example of Postmodernist architecture in Britain. The current Director of the National Gallery is Gabriele Finaldi.
Paintings, colours, designs, art of making, expressions of sensitivity, underlying historical events, a journey ...
What else?
A place for everyone, there will be a painting of every single artist you know, it also has a great gift shop and a cofee shop.
Been a member here for a while now. Excellent programmes though don t like the recent strongarming donations team which seems very unwelcoming.
Saw some amazing pieces (available no where else) here, for free. Worth a look.
Well . ... it's the national gallery. Jewel in the crown
I loved this museum which I had seen in 2011 when came first time to London.
Now second time would like to see it and add specific comments It is awwsome
It's gorgeous. Not huge but the art on display is wonderful, in particular the renaissance paintings.
A remarkable impressionist collection. A da Vinci study. A Botticelli.
Language is to limited to portray just how unique and amazing it is here.
The Paintings, the History, the compositions and detailed information describing how all One can see has come to BE!!!!
I can't just finish there.
Whatever your feelings on Englands past here you see and feel how ART timelessly evolves from a brilliant, often mechanical process producing a societal addiction in 'wig wearing ego' to LIBERATED SELF DEFINITION. (LSD).
Come in to this amazing National Free Treasure House and absorb .
Theres a good cafe too.
Amazing gallery and handling social distancing very well
Fantastic, could spend days there.
Nice expresso bar and great restaurant.
Would also recommend downloading the App, great for deciding what to look at next, where to find it and the additional info.
Then for the detailed info Google it!
At every corner a volunteer remind you that the visit is free but you can donate ! Excellent gift shop ! Exquisite staff !
Beautiful paintings of great artists. Me and my wife have spent a wonderful 4 hours
So many great pieces, in a beautiful building, well setup to handle crowds. The gift shop us reasonable, the art represents all the masters, and it's free.
Even though I didn't have enough time for the entire Gallery... Every time I return...I see and feel something new... This was my first time back since the death of my mother... She was a gifted artist... And I miss her... For the first time since her death nearly three years ago..I felt connected to her... Thank you National Gallery.
A national treasure housing wonderful classical paintings from many renowned artists. This is a real treasure trove of art from different periods. Artists such has Turner, Constable, Titian, Holbein, Monet, Velazquez, Caravaggio, Vermeer and many more. If you just have half an hour drop in a d just visit one of the many rooms, but you could also spend all day here admiring the paintings.
My particular favourite is Room 34 which exhibits the dazaling seascapes by Turner (including the "Fighting Temeraire") and the beautiful landscapes of Constable (including "Stratford Mill") also Gainsborough exhibited in this room. Also don't miss Room 41 for the famous Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and Monet's "Water-Lily Pond". I think the "Sunflowers" painting is the most photographed in the Gallery.
Entrance to the National Gallery is currently not via the main entrance (which is exit only) but through the Sainsbury Wing to the right of the building.
I love this place, it's got amazing paintings and rooms set out like labyrinths meaning you won't know what painting you'll see next.
Great National Gallery. World class and way up there.
Great place to sign for a tour (even if audio) and immerse into history of art
World famous art exhibits housed in a gorgeous building.. And entrance is free. What more can one ask for?
A chance to see some of the most famous artists across the world
Great exhibition when we went.
Huge range of art but you would expect that!
Helpful staff, places to sit and enjoy the art.
Plenty of tours going on that you can cheekily listen into.
Cafe which is clean and, when we went, had enough seating.
Lots of artwork worth seeing here, especially the landscape paintings by Claude Lorrain. It's open late until 9pm on Fridays.
The paintings! We popped in unplanned, with time to kill, just to visit a few rooms. If I started mentioning the individual paintings, this would be a long post. I'm now going to do more of this just popping in thing.
A superb collection of European paintings although the exhibition spaces are crowded and airless ( after all the fuss caused by the extension, you might think they would get that right!). Two galleries (34/35)of 18th century British Art, well worth seeing. A really great institution founded on the idea of giving the public free access to paintings.
Very nice and diverse collection in a beautiful building. Really enjoyed the visit.
Amazing. Organization for corona measures are amazing, very safe, very empty.
I love visiting The National Gallery when in London, because they always have different exhibitions that I have not seen
I could relaxing and healing my mind with lovely artworks. I love room no.42, especially.
Strange rule that's nowhere to be seen on the website: you aren't allowed to wear your rucksack on your back, only on one shoulder or on your chest. This was only sprung on me (and everyone else, including people wearing very small rucksacks) when I arrived. I carry spare masks, extra sanitizer, and water in mine. I can't fathom why I can wear it on one shoulder but not both, but at least if I was forewarned I would have planned and brought another kind of bag. I like to spend a long time in front of different pieces and it is harder to do when encumbered.
Anyway, I might have dealt with it if I didn't see a pair of young men without masks at all walk through the gallery without being stopped by the guard. Indecipherable set of rules to me, and the only museum/public area I've been to since the pandemic (and I've been to a few) to create a problem for me.
Excellent Sorolla exhibition. Worth getting the audio guide for the extra insight it provides.
The National Gallery is home to Picasso's Sunflowers, and Turner/Constable works of art. The main displays and static are free to view. Allow plenty of time when your visit, and pick-up a map. I got lost a few times.
Staff members, tour guides, and volunteers make the venue more welcoming, and informative. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
Just sigh. I could be here 1 week straight if I have time.
Need at least a full day to view the paintings in the Gallery and the variety of artists is amazing. Wouldn't have missed the opportunity to visit and see them.
Must visit and see the collections from all the Commonwealth countries and kept here. Yes one must see the fossils of the Dinos.
I really like the fact that the entrance is free and there are so very famous paintings in there
It's a beautiful gallery. An outstanding collection including Leonardo as well as many other great masterpieces. Also good cafe shops loos and free WiFi
Fabulous national resource. So many wonderful paintings.
Love BUT I want to see M the world of female artists too
I love coming to the national gallery there is so much to see, from beautiful portraits to masterfully landscapes you can find them all here, they usually rotate some of the exhibitions depending on the season so visit the webpage to read more about the latest exhibitions. I also love the giftshop in here as it offers copies of the most famous paintings and all sorts of different souvenirs to remember your visit so be sure to pay a visit.
Beautiful photos. But no staff around of you want to ask questions
The building is big and beautiful (out and inside). There are so so many paintings to see.
This gallery has paintings that are centuries old. Such beautiful paintings from that era. You will enjoy seeing them.
Amazing ! Superb ! Need to re-visit ! SO much to see, to take in and to admire.
Just wonderful art! The Mantegna and Bellini exhibition was really well curated.
Free Entrance to a great and huge art gallery, super friendly staff, and luckily the have a nice restaurant which is the perfect place for a rest.
A great exhibition with great artworks! And it's free! You don't get this so often. Thanks, London! Donate, people!
Love exhibitions when you have a few hours spare it free to enter. Inspiring art from the early 1800 up to modern age.
Visited the Money and Architecture exhibition. The exhibition was extremely well done and enjoyable.
