Impeccably maintained grounds and ample learning opportunities bring a new appreciation to the natural world around us. The children's garden is one of the best kid spaces in Chicagoland and the arboretum's seasonal events are not to be missed.

A bit more organized than it used to be. I use to go here years ago but they have really built it up a bit more and see s a bit less "wild" than years ago.
They often have events and there is a children's area now. We've decided to join and go there for hikes with our boys. We also attended the illumination light show this past Winter.

On Fridays they close one side of the road that runs through the park to cars. It's one of my favorite times/places to ride my bike in Chicago.

11 miles (if i remember right) when you do both loops, and hills! It's so much fun to bomb some of the descents at 35 MPH, you don't get that many places in Chicagoland.

It doesn't hurt that it's beautiful and full of wildlife, but for me this really my personal TT track. Beware of people in cars who don't expect to be passed by bicycles, watch out for bugs in your teeth. But yeah, one of the best rides in the area.

If you aren't a bike rider it's really pretty anyway and you'll enjoy all of the walking paths.

The dog days are the best days to go! They happen every few months (check their website for dates.) We really like walking through the arboretum especially with the dog.
Many multi-mile paths to choose from. Many parking lots that you can stop at to be near a path or section you want to explore.

The annual Illumination lights are fantastic for all ages. Walking through lights for about an hour with warming tents, benches, fire pits and hot beverages make for a delightful evening.

The arboretum offers many walking trails through gardens, prairie, and woods. Several places to stop and park along either the east or west loop. The west loop is longer than the east, but both offer a great bike ride, run or drive through the preserve. You can also hunt for the wood trolls that are hidden throughout the grounds.

This place is truly a local treasure. Becoming a member is absolutely worth it. Their fun events and classes have never disappointed and there always seems to be something cool going on. The children's garden is adorable and there's something engaging for all ages. The area is also interspersed with lots of labels on trees and opportunities to read and learn about the environment surrounding you. The walking paths are well-kept and beautiful, perfect for getting lost in the revelry of nature or enjoying conversation with a companion. They continue to renovate and improve the facilities, engage local artists and provide real value to the community.

We went for the Tails on the Trails event, it was fun. Lots of dogs, lots of people, we have little dogs and had to park a good distance from the entrance so by the time our dogs got there they were tuckered out. Once inside they seemed to enjoy it.

They have a really nice kids area and have some fun things to do with the kids like troll hunt and activities throughout the day. You can walk for miles here through some pretty forest areas.

A very beautiful park is where to walk, to go there, you have to spend the whole day. You can go by car in the park, look for trolls, but be careful, those trolls that are located directly in the woods, there are terrible mosquitoes.
Good, quiet, calm, interesting, children liked it.

I love this place and have been a member for years. Beauty, spectacular scenery, hawks and egrets, flowers, glorious trees, and those trolls! Dont must the daffodil glade, which will be blooming soon under the massive oaks. Breathtaking. The Arboretum is a living museum and a place I can't get enough of. Bring a picnic, your bikes or just take a leisurely drive or hike.

be sure to bring comfortable shoes even if you're just taking your kids to the children's garden. amazing time for our kids (8 & 6) for the past 3 years. we always take a drive around the grounds to catch the beautiful grounds. never tried the acorn tram but it seems pricey and too long for young kids.

Walked the entire property and loved getting out early and away from technology for a morning. The trees were starting to change color so it was a beautiful time of year to go to the arboretum. The fall colors fest was going on so we grabbed some cinnamon donuts and apple cider as we checked out the glass pumpkin display. I would definitely come back a couple times during the year especially with all the different events they put on.

Huge botanical garden, it has a lot of fun stuff to do, there is a maze and a place for kids to play with a lot of interesting and interactive games. Place is also good just for picnic or a walk. There is always someone from the staff to help you.

Very nice trails and paths. We went troll hunting on a Saturday which is a very popular thing to do apparently. There were a lot of people here. The trolls are scattered throughout so it takes a very long time to find them all and they aren't very well marked on maps. If you want to find them all, expect to spend at least three hours, maybe more. Definitely fun and worth it though.

Such a beautiful and amazing stop. If you just like seeing/being in nature, this will be a place you definitely want to see. It's so we'll kept and has amazing sights. For kids, there are amazing play options. It's a great way to get your kids outdoors and getting their activity in. It's a little pricey for me, but I wouldn't dream of taking away from five stars because of that. The upkeep and experience are worth it.

Beautiful area, and quite expansive. Really enjoyed the trolls installment. Coming in the summer? Bring bugspray if you have any intention of going into the woodsy area! You'll get eaten up otherwise--trust me. But if you're looking for a natural and soothing getaway from the hustle and bustle of Chicago, this place will do you well. Come enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of nature.

Been going to the Arboretum at least once a month since 1975. Was a really nice place in those days and for many years after. Unfortunately it has really changed. Too many cars, like rush hour on the freeway. Noisy West Side, continual beating on a metal drum somewhere close to the Lake. Wonder how the animals handle that?

When will you be putting in the Merry go round and other fair ground amusements, next 5-10 years, or sooner?

I'm afraid that your efforts to get more people to come to the Arboretum has adversely affected the quality of the experience, at least for me.

Wonder what Joy would have thought of today's Arboretum?
