I visit every time I m in the city. The construction was a bit awkward o. My last visit but once complete I m sure it ll be amazing again.
MoMA does exhibit some incredible artworks, but the trouble is that it s difficult to get quality time with them. Like many major museums, it s full of tourists scurrying to take photos and selfies with the artwork.
While the visitor experience may at times be negative, the major exhibitions on the top floor are more often than not impeccably curated, while historical works in the collection could probably do with a bit of a refresh.
My favorite time to visit MoMA is in the height of winter, when NYC is quiet and it feels like you re the only person in the galleries!
I had been waiting my whole life to visit it, and it was the best day of my life.
Great but too busy to really enjoy the art. Crazily busy in fact.
It was great, very near the subway and it had 6 floors full of paintings mostly from various artistes of the recent past. That doyen of painters like Pablo Picasso are featured prominently in this gallery.
Half of the exhibits were closed so I'm glad a bought a discounted ticket on Travelzoo. Love the MoMA store.
Ofcourse you won't miss the Gogh. But do remember to see the Monet, Dali, Kahlo, Picasso, and Pollock in their permanent exhibit. Do your art research before hand to find and appreciate the treasure-trove they have and don't forget to visit the shop downstairs!
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is an art museum located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, on 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. It plays a major role in developing and collecting modern art, and is often identified as one of the largest and most influential museums of modern art in the world. MoMA's collection offers an overview of modern and contemporary art, including works of architecture and design, drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, prints, illustrated books and artist's books, film, and electronic media. The MoMA Library includes approximately 300,000 books and exhibition catalogs, over 1,000 periodical titles, and over 40,000 files of ephemera about individual artists and groups. The archives hold primary source material related to the history of modern and contemporary art.
Great museum.
Thanks to the old men with you I seat and show me how to look at a painting. It was deep
Starry Night, yes they got it. See it, then see the other 99.9% of cool works they have there. It may be a good idea to use the map/guide to plan your time there. There is so much to see, you'll feel overwhelmed if you're not careful. Take breaks and watch the people from all over this world be amazed by great art from all over this tiny blue marble. Must see for all ages, cultures, political stripes. Be amazed.
So first of all, it s a very nice museum! I don t recommend coming on Friday afternoon/evening. That s when the admission is for free and it s way too crowded. Besides, you ll have to queue up for up to 2 hours if you want to enter for free. Just pay the $14 if you are a student and you won t have to wait at all! The museum itself is nice, it s easy to navigate. The art: well it s art. Not quite my thing but some of the pictures were really nice and quite famous and it was cool seeing them. There are descriptions and explanations as well. It s barrier free and also a good place to bring kids (I saw a lot of kids!!). The garden plaza is a nice place to hang out! If you re in town for only a short amount of time I don t recommend on going! It takes too much time!
My first time visiting. Enjoyed the museum greatly. I especially liked the exhibit featuring the artist Charles White. I also enjoyed Picasso, Van Gogh, and Rosseau. Not being an art aficionado, I either like something or I don't , so I wasn't enamored by every piece, but I really enjoyed this museum.
Mona was very nice. Way too big tho. Easy to get lost and miss things.
Well lit and well arranged spaces. Didn't feel too crowded even on a busy Saturday.
Go and see some very famous paintings
Love it! Love it! Love it!!! Always new expostions and art that you missed the time before!
I enjoyed the art pieces, but tourists are everywhere. So be ready for large crowds and long lines to check in bags.
Very comprehensive. Great work in the permanent collection. Loved the Rauschenberg exhibit and Frank Lloyd Wright as well.
Entered with free admission, great art collection, but it's currently under remodeling so some exhibits are closed
Pretty cool museum. Make sure you leave yourself some time to visit the installations. Don't go for the free fridays. Too busy and you won't enjoy the experience.
The Tour Guides are excellent and knowledgeable. Everyone was helpful, because I kept getting lost, including the security team and maintenance staff. The food in the cafe/ restaurant is good.
Great pieces of art in a great building but really TOO EXPENSIVE compared to european standards.
Nice collections and courtyard. Audio guides was free, but little content and it failed half way. Lots of constructions.
It pains me to give this spot three stars but it s really way too crowded and massive - the paintings and artwork feel squished as well and aren t organized in any thematic way that makes it interesting (which is how I prefer to see modern art). I was looking forward to the renovations but unfortunately will keep recommending the Whitney over MOMA for folks who visit.
Great indoor exhibit, especially if the weather is unfriendly.
Really beautiful. Well organized, really pleasant staff. Totally worth the ticket money.
Good variety of art from late 19 century to modern day. Navigation is not very verbose though as the only maps are on the wall of each floor and they don't mention actual artists.
Great collection but it is very crowded especially on the rainy day
You wouldn't be able to have a detailed look of the stary night because of the crowd
Always love going here. I can't say anything better that hasn't been said. All I know is, time flies when I am at MoMA.
Great place for tourist. Love the Starry Night painting. Also if you re a citizen, you can get a free VIP pass
Undoubtedly my favourite place in New York. Allocate at least half a day to work your way through each floor. Incredible.
I m happy with the remodeling of the museum but the pieces on display right now didn t blow my mind
Absolutely moved. Only reason I'm rating 4 stars is because I didn't get there early enough to see it all. Look forward to a future of going back. As an art history kid with a love of these topics in particular, this was an absolute dream come true.
Some amazing pieces of artwork. Great restaurant too, good food and lovely staff.
Best modern art collection in the world, hands-down. Beautiful curation, amazing works, and gorgeous building. Garden is an oasis of peace and quiet in midtown and in summer when fountains are on it is the perfect place to relax. Cafe on second floor has delicious pasta, soup, and other lunch options at reasonable prices. Cafe on fourth floor is a bit more expensive and you get your own table but the food is not "way better" than what you get in the second floor cafe.
Great experience and for free the last hour.. Was extremely overcrowded but what else would you expect from a free, one of a kind, museum.
Amazing experience! They have a little booklet for the kids and my daughter had fun which let me spend more time at the museum:))
Really interesting mix of modern and classic art. Free entrance on Friday. Beautiful garden
It is a place in New York that you should go definetely be inspired by the exhibitions.
Great place!!! You can visit it for free on Fridays after 4PM. Just remember you will find a lot of people. If you love art this is a must-see.
Beautiful and diverse art, ranging from old masters paintings to contemporary artists and interactive installations
My favorite museum in New York. Saw a screening of Sympathy for the Devil by Jean-Luc Goddard here. There was even a q&a withe the director of cinematography! I think I will be coming back to MoMA for years and years to come.
Had to run trough the galleries fairly quick because I was limited in time. The permanent gallery is Amazing. There are 10 plus De Chrico paintings which were amazing. Also one painting by architect Zaha Hadid. Was there with a friend that required a wheelchair, museum was very accommodating
This place changes your life. No museum can match its impact. If if you love arts must visit when at NYC
25$ entrance fee. I think it s still worth it. Many amazing art pieces from renowned artists. They give you an ipod on which u can listen to commentaries on a lot of art pieces and it makes the experience really informative
You don t get bored in this museum ! Well organised and good food at the cafeteria at reasonable prices.
Awesome place for modern art lovers, almost and all day trip, free on friday nights!
Great museum; very rich art collection. You need to plan some time to visit all.
Gorgeous building. Tickets are pretty expensive. The oldest collections are very interesting and contain some indisputable masterpieces. The more modern stuff can be a little bit puzzling for the inexperienced tourist - like me. Dada collection is extremely rich.
Uniqlo offering free Friday evenings but crowded because of that.
.
Previously Posted. Great Location. Excellent Art Collection And Exhibitions Are Above Average.

A Must Go Venue In Manhattan.

Nice museum and lots of modern art in many levels. Free tickets on Friday! There's huge line during those hours, but it's moving pretty fast so you don't have to wait long time.
Always something interesting to see...but given its proxity to Rockefeller Center and Times Square, it gets real crowded on weekends
Their photography exhibit was disappointing. Steven Shore is just a documentarian, lucky to have met famous Andy Worhal & friends but pictures are snapshots.
Always a great idea to refresh your modern art knowledge.
Fantastic, but unfortunately very crowded. I would recommend visiting during off-times, like weekdays.
On my second trip to the newly revamped museum I was happier than my previous visit. However the squawking from all the videos is disconcerting and a performance was ridiculous it belonged in an appropriate space instead of polluting the premises with nasty noise. However there are some new pieces which are quite delightful. A Toulouse Lautrec was lovely. A museum should be a place to contemplate art and if you want to view videos you should be given with headphones so other people would not be forced to listen to unwanted noise.
Not sure if everything has been said about how wonderful their collection is, but beyond the artwork is the continuing focus on design, evidenced in all aspects of our current culture. Contemporary art in video games, anyone?
And I wouldn't have minded meeting Paola Antonelli.
You need to appreciate modern art. Not for everyone.
In addition to great arts, there are plenty of spaces for people to sit back, savour, admire and recharge (no pun intended, there's indeed an area offering cables for your phone's.) Very friendly design for visitors.
The MOMA is well-known throughout the world and that was reflected in how little English I heard when I was there. The entry price was reasonable ($25 for adults, $14 for students with ID, $15 for seniors, free for children 16 and under). Visitors must check bags for free.
Unfortunately, I went during a bad time. A lot of the exhibits were under construction and even the sculpture garden was closed. There was a good range of art in terms of medium and style on show from Van Gogh to Japanese architectural models so everybody will find something that speaks to them. Plan to spend anywhere for 2-4 hours here.
Beautiful place to go. Inspirational art and enjoyable experience.
This museum has a lot of collections. one of the popular museum in NYC. they have a creativity labs, where you can draw a marker of a country and you can put it on the large map on the wall. And they have a very big rose statue outside the museum.
The MoMa is usually pretty cool, the exhibits are consistently changing so check their website for more info. TIP: college students get a discounted ticket!! bring your current school ID with you.
A nice pls e to be visited by who is interested in design trends
You can easily spend 3 hours in this museum. The cafes are currently closed so eat beforehand. You can sit and relax in the courtyard area. When you enter, they have a camera to take your temperature.
Finally saw starry night.
Amazing collection from around the world! Highly recommend... and not sure how long this is going on but Friday's 5p- 9p = free entry!!
We went on the free night so it was pretty crowded. But the exhibits were nice and there were a couple walk in classes we went to. The teacher was nice and my kids had fun.
Take your thickets to go more than one time, because it's not gonna be enough one day.
If you have just one day to visit it, start from the 5th floor.
There are 2 guide tour a day included in the ticket, so go right away to the info-desk to know the time.
Last time I was there it was really inspirational, the guide made a tour with this women-in-art topic. I just love it!
Even though the muesum had two level temporarily closed when I was there it was a stellar muesum. The crowd felt like it was controlled and flowing, the exhibits were very cool even some where interactive. The bathrooms we're clean and the line for tickets wasn't bad. I did not eat here on this trip but I had the year before and the food was exceptional and the tables like a lunch room style. Overall excellent atmosphere and environment.
Much less impressive than the Metropolitan museum for me but still worth a visit (at least to see the Starry night). Was so crowded on Sunday, that it wasn t possible to enjoy the art properly. We didn t see some of the famous pieces, could be because a part of the building was under construction.
The MoMA is a must-do for anyone who loves or even likes art. My advice: 1. Buy your tickets online and skip the line, 2. Check the MoMA website to see what will be on exhibit when you visit (and what won t), 3. Maybe just start on the 5th floor, 4. Check Google for busiest visiting days/hours so you can plan your visit around the crowds.
Today was our second visit. We went on a Wednesday (not a peak day) during peak hours (around 11AM). We bought tickets online five minutes beforehand for $25/each and skipped the line. It wasn t very crowded - Starry Night and I got so much facetime the security guard told me to move along .
The first time we visited the MoMA, we pooped out before we reached and 5th floor and didn t realize that one of Van Gogh s most famous Starry Night oil paintings was on permanent exhibit there. Jackson Pollock is my fave artist and I didn t realize they have a whole room full of his work until today. They also have this Piet Mondrian piece there called Trafalgar Square, which I d never seen, but seeing it amidst the other pieces on the 5th floor and reading the caption almost brought me to tears. There are lots of paintings on the 5th floor done during and around World War I and WWII. Mondrian named many of his paintings after the cities where he took refuge during WWII when the Netherlands was under Nazi occupation. In fact, he was a refugee for a time in New York City. It was moving to see Mondrian s Trafalgar Square while visiting New York City partly because of the current political climate and because I love the melting pot that is NYC. For Mondrian to dedicate work to the cities that gave him refuge during Nazi occupation is a beautiful demonstration of his gratitude for the grace shown by his host countries. The painting serves as a vivid reminder of the great things that come from taking in refugees and is itself an embodiment of such a beautiful gift of social grace. This painting would never have existed had London turned Mondrian away as a refugee.
Anyways, go see the MoMA.
Relies too heavily in its classic pieces, its traveling modern art pieces are terrible.
Great collection, would go again the only thing is they don't take in consideration of those who are afraid of heights
Yes, they have great works of art, but I expected more, especially for the amount of space and the hype this place gets. The audio tour sucks (luckily it's free), couldn't get the apparatus to work whatsoever. It made no sense! You could click on random articles it had available, but if you wanted to hear about the particular room you were in, or follow a suggested route the machine is supposedly capable of giving, you just couldn't get it! Ellis Island had a much simpler and effective audio tour thingy. I was disappointed with the $30 bucks I spent to go here. Should've gone to another museum. You can tour this place in under 2h easily.
It was a big disappointment for me, I expected much more from this place. Most exhibits in this museum do not represent any aesthetic value, there is only one floor with the paintings of the great modern artists, almost all other floors does not contain anything valuable. You can enter the museum for free every Friday from 4 till 8 pm.
Rally amazing, have a lot of important creations from the best painters
Avoid fridays. Its free for everyone and it's like being in a huge can of sardines. But theres art, Some real good art.
Get free ticket on Friday 4pm. Provided by Uniqlo. Should come earlier of dont want to wait in line for famous art. Bag cannot enter the museum and must place at the counter.
I saw Starry Night in person.... amazing. It's one of my favourite paintings and it's also an extremely famous one. I didn't even realize they had it here until I did some research. Adam and I weren't sure we had time to fit this museum in with everything else we had planned.
The museum itself is beautiful. There are some views all around that are really spectacular.
It ended up being a short visit because there was too many people to enjoy the art. We went to our must see paintings and then left.
For students the tickets are reduced so make sure you have your card on hand. Even though I go to a Canadian University, they accepted it.
I love Moma and all their exhibits! It s always crowded but worth it. Go on a weekday if you can.
What passes as 'art' these says is questionable- feel like I need to bleach my eyeballs
Free ticket provided by Uniqlo on Friday! Admission is otherwise $25/adult. Amazing art museum.
Monet is beautiful. Some of the security guards were not nice to us because we had a baby
The art work is wat worth going to see many original famous art, but the layout of the artwork was obtuse.
I checked an item off my bucket list when I saw Starry Night there. I would love to go back and enjoy it again!
