Such a cool building with tons of neat architecture and design. Tour was very good and informative. Highly recommend.
First, I will say that the Mark Twain House is beautiful, and very interesting. I was looking forward to the tour very much. However, my tour guide ruined this experience for me. She was condescending, and actually made fun of people in the tour group. She talked more about herself than about Mark Twain. I was hoping to learn something, but instead was treated like a child. I would love to go back someday and hear from a different guide.
It's worth a visit to Hardford's Mark Twain House and Museum ...
Living tour was well worth the extra few dollars. Our guide George Griffin played by Tom never came out of character. He made the tour enjoyable and entertaining for children as well as adults. The gift shop had great and unique options.
You will learn facinating information and the house is one of the most beautiful and interesting I have seen
The special guided tours are amazing. It's a fascinating house and the guide had stories for everything. I want to go back and get a tour given from one of the other characters.
Awesome Treasure in Hartford .Sam was very knowledgeable and make our tour truly memorable.
Excellent tour, we had a actress playing the roll of Mark Twain's wife, very rich an informative life tour of Mark Twain! The grand home is something to behold, put this tour on your to do list!!
Enjoyed our visit to the Mark Twain House and Museum today. Took a guided tour where the guide was in full dress and talked to the time period. Enjoyed the full tour of the house and the insight into the family after they lived in the house. Tragic. Our only activity in Hartford and very much worth the quick stop over.
Beautiful house and very informative tour. Well worth it.
Absolutely a fun historical time. People are friendly and knowledgeable and there are always things going on.
Amazing place. The regular tour is very interesting. The 'character' tours... definitely worth going through for each character!
Awesome piece of history to walk through - tour guide was very knowledgeable and made our experience educational and entertaining. Glad we visited while in Hartford!
Get the guided character tour. It does cost more.... Ann aka Suzy was great. Worth it.
Absolutely amazing spot to explore the legacy of Mark Twain while checking out a beautiful house built hundreds of years ago but restored to perfection in a guided tour with knowledgeable guides. The pricing is a little expensive but the hour long walk through the house is totally worth it and they have tours leaving every half hour so you don't have to wait long no matter when you get there. Plentiful parking and the beautiful surrounding scenery make for a great place to spend an hour or two on any day. The 23 minute compressed documentary is chocolate full of information as well as the 2 exhibits.
Good historical place. When you come expect to spend more than two hours here ,because there is so much to look at. The tours are great to and really educating.
The guides here are world-class. They are experts in their field, very well-informed and engaging. Also, the huckleberry soda is delicious.
This was a very interesting place. The tours were worth the price with most of the house visited and many details about the decorations and the family. I learned much more than expected. Be sure to visit the full visitors center and watch the movie, too. There is a small cafe upstairs for a snack or light meal.
My boyfriend and I just did the gallery (no house tour) and even that was a gratifying experience. We learned a lot about the great author, especially with the scavenger hunt worksheet provided at the beginning. It's a small but well-put-together gallery. We hope check out the house one day.
Incredible experience to step back in time.Intelligent staff.
Interesting visit, good historical information. If you go you definitely have to do the tour, the displays are not enough. Only complaint is the cost of the tour which is like $20/person.
Got there after the last tour of the house, but for $6 was able to tour the two smaller exhibits in the museum. The staff was very friendly and the little gift store was fun. Admission was a little steep for the size of the exhibits, and the posted admission to tour the house was also high, but they were innovative and well maintained. Worth a visit, even if you just walk around the grounds of the home, which is free.
I like it but $20 entry fee is expensive and the gift shop inside is really rip off!
Great hidden little gem in Hartford! Really enjoyed the home tour as well as the museum next door. Very informative movie also provided. The furnishings inside are really interesting. The stories shared by our friendly tour guide made the tour even better! Definitely recommend spending a couple hours here to learn about Mark Twain and his family!
Really nice experience. A lot of facts and lovely exhibitions.
Incredible place, elegant, tasteful, stylish and a real insight into the wonderful mind of Mark Twain and insights into his complex and rich family life. The tour guide was friendly and really well informed.
Our costumed tour guide was fabulous - a terrific visit - I highly recommend it!
They have a nice film at the beginning that gives a lot of info about Mark Twain's life. I learned a lot just from watching it. The house is very beautiful. It has been very well maintained although there were a couple of places where the paint is peeling off the ceilings. We took the tour guided by Lizzy the maid. With this tour, the tour guides pretends to be the maid and tells stories from her point of view. That makes it more entertaining and interesting in my opinion.
The museum walls are covered with great quotes. Enter the house only with a guided tour. The knowledgeable guides left me with a strong appreciation for the difficulties the author overcame to be so productive.
Highly recommended. One would learn a lot by visiting Mark Twain's house.
Mark Twain is not only one of the great American authors; he is also one of the great American characters, and so it only makes sense that his house should be well worth a visit. Interesting to learn how the boy from rural Missouri ended up associated with East Coast elites. Our tour guide was amazing, and the house itself is pretty architecturally interesting as well.
This was an awesome muesuem. The tour guide, Stephanie, was very knowledgeable about the author and his history. I will definitely return and brag about this place. Thank you, Stephanie for making my tour great. Bless you.
Love this place! If you come to Hartford definitely put this in your list if things to see.
love coming back here again and again to learn more and more about our awesome rich history....
Went on the Suzy character tour. The actress was lovely, there were low prices, and it was very educational and exciting for someone with a love for literature.
We took the tour guided by " Lizzie" who was in the service of the Clemons family while they lived in Hartford. She was excellent! It costs a bit more to have a "Character Guide" but I feel it's definitely worth it. It's a structure that made me feel justified in my feeling that moulding is the most important visual element residential architecture! Loved it!
It's beautiful and historic and fun. Mark Twain is a national treasure.
Ever so much more than I expected! Our tour guide was amazing with details and stories of Mark Twain and his family.
Very informative and fascinating place. Highly recommended.
Incredible tour guide laid out many pieces of information about the author that Tom Sawyer doesn't reveal.
A beautiful home with an interesting story to tell. The tour is well worth taking.
Nice Historical Site for a quick visit! Whole place meticulously reconditioned!
One of my favorite historical home tours of all time! Designed by Tiffany s
I went to see Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child there. The parking is free and easy. All of the seats were good. The book signing at the end was well organized.
Had an outstanding tour here. Very informative, and really a beautiful house. Love that they didn't renovate everything and there are still parts that are exactly, not even touched up, the way it appeared back when Mark Twain lived there.
Of note:
Pictures aren't allowed in the house. (Really!?)
Definitely check out the gift shop
Awesome tour such a cool place I love all the old stuff inside and would go again and again
The tour guide we had deserves five stars and the house itself is amazing. None of us (party of four) felt that the whole experience was worth 20 dollars.
A fastenating and inspiring museum. Highly detailed exhibits that cover the life and works of one of America's brightest minds.
Fun time lizzie wills the maid was entertaining and informative, a great day!!
I really enjoyed the house tour. The innovation of the time period is impressive.
If you already have an appreciation for one of the finest American writers, visiting the Mark Twain home will deeply enhance it. If literature is not your thing, visiting the Mark Twain home may inspire your interest and curiosity to learn More
A breath taking Victorian house made all the more special because it was built for Mark Twain. Great tour!
I don t have enough words about this house, other than, it s a MUST SEE! The house is absolutely beautiful and charming and walking on the footsteps of Samuel Clemens is an emotional experience. Go see how this genius writer lived and feel his presence in the house.
Going to Hartford is a wonderful day trip. Better yet, right next door to his house, you can also visit Harriet Beecher Stowe s house, which is another wonderful experience. GO!
If you like literature,
Its for you.
