The hotel itself is a beautiful old building. The staff were very pleasant, and rooms very clean. I give it three stars though for the rooms. Their windows and doors don t stop sound, and then to add to that you can t set the AC s fan to On (only Auto). The AC loudly cycles on and off, inadequately cooling the room or providing enough background noise to cover up the hallway and street noise. We didn t sleep well at all.

Stayed here for work recently. Was an interesting mix of old and renovated space. Service was good, though a little disorganized. Room was very clean, though beds were a bit firm for my liking. Was in a great location, which was a huge plus.

Quality of the room and food in the restaurant were very good. Air conditioning was great and centrally located in Halifax. Perfect place to explore the city. I would stay there again anytime.

Very comfortable bed and pillows. We had a king bed room and I'd recommend it to travellers.
Close to food outlets (24 hours). Close to Canada Post and other shops. Good location and good price.

Great location across from the Public Gardens (which is absolutely beautiful). Hotel is quaint. Restaurant average. Room was large and bed very comfortable. The picture of the damaged building and crane is across the street from the hotel and due to hurricane damage. It is NOT the hotel.

Beautiful historic hotel loaded with charm. Great downtown location is close everything including bars, restaurants and the Public Gardens. Although the rooms are somewhat small the charm and the excellent staff more than make up for it.

Great doorman to help you and the food was good. Staff is very friendly but the rooms are getting run down with wall paper peeling off but the place was built in 1927 in great shape good location.

Visited friend (who was an overnight guest) in her room before heading out to bar for her birthday. All facilities were clean and presentable, the room was welcoming, and the view (ninth floor, room 927, I think?) was amazing. Would definitely book a room here myself.

Our room was pretty nice, the location isn't great, the parking is very confusing, not directly attached to hotel elevators like most are and very expensive.
My biggest disappointment has been the service.
I stayed there about a month ago and have called about 6 times and no one can ever help me look for an item that we left in our room. They send me constantly to a voicemail and no one ever returns my call. The item is very sentimental and at least being able to have a discussion with a human would help me understand. I called the same day that we left just a few hours after check out the first time.

Great respect to the staff of the hotel. Anything I needed they helped. They have a good room service, the room was very comfortable, and I had a great stay. Perfect place for those visiting Halifax and have business they need in the area. My great thanks to the staff at the Lord Nelson!

I'm giving 3 stars because it's still a chic hotel, perfectly located in the center of the city, with a good service and good quality furniture in the rooms.
What I didn't like is that the rooms are incredibly overpriced and the fact that they are tiny makes it even worse.
I dont really understand why you have to pay double to get something much worse than in other hotels??
The bathrooms are just so tiny that you can easily get bruises trying to take a shower in a ridiculously small shower corner. And I'm a thin person. There is absolutely no space to put your stuffs around in the bathroom, not at all... the only shelf that was on the mirrow was not well fixed and it was so bend that I would not place anything on it that could be broken if slides down. At least, they could fix the shelves... very uncomfortable to stay in there.
Overpriced parking too. 28 dollars per day... come on, guys, when we stayed in Lord Elgin hotel in Ottawa, that was in center of the city too, we payed twice less... that's the capital, more people, less space, hello!
Never again.

Nice hotel very comfortable bed would have given a 5 stars but I found hair in my sheets which makes me believe they didn't change the sheets... The bathtub is very uncomfortable and also found hair. I loved the Nespresso machine in the room. Very nice staff.

This place was incredible. The staff pay incredible attention to detail and go above and beyond the needs of guests. Was on a birthday weekend trip to Halifax and they happily upgraded our room. Zelorah checked us in. Five minutes after settling into our room, we receive a knock at our door. The concierge hands me a bottle of wine and slickest birthday card. Well played. When I visit Halifax, this is where I ll stay.

I had a great time at the Lord Nelson. Our room wasn't ready by check-in time, but they upgraded us to a suite for that reason so it was totally fine! The room itself was really nice, with hardwood floors (very welcome in a hotel where god-knows-what gets on the carpet...). The location also made it really easy to explore downtown Halifax! The only negative thing was that our pullout couch didn't have bedding at all, so we had to call the front desk to request some.

I have had the opportunity to stay in many hotels and a variety of locations. Some of them were excellent some of them were sketchy. I have also been lucky enough to stay in some older hotels both in and outside of Canada. Prior to staying at the Lord Nelson, my favorite hotel was the Fairmont in Banff. Now, I cannot honestly tell you that the Lord Nelson is as wonderful as the Fairmont in Banff, but it is in Halifax and not in Banff.

That geographical distinction aside, the service and the attention to detail was similar. As I was waiting to get breakfast I spent 10 minutes watching them polish the brass railings on the mezzanine. Given that this is a Victorian-style hotel, there is a great deal of brass all over the place. All of it shines.

I had the pleasure of staying in a small suite (a king size bed in one room, a small sitting area in the other). This more than met my needs at an affordable price. Additionally, the walls were thick enough that I did not hear my neighbours nor did I have much disturbance from the street. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were fluffy and enjoyable, and the rooms were quiet.

It is located across from the gardens which are beautiful, and is within walking distance of pretty much anything you would want to see in downtown Halifax. It is definately hotel I will stay in again.

Very good service, the hotel is clean, the room I had was very small, but I was only there to sleep so it was not a bad thing at that time. The only negative is that you have to wait a long time to get hot water in the shower.

I recently attended a conference and was struck by the beauty of the place. It took me back in time to when hotels were well constructed. The chandeliers were so beautiful. The architecture is very well maintained.

Lovely renovated hotel. Across from the public gardens which are beautiful.
View from the room was disappointing - looked out onto the rooftop with air conditioning units.
Parking is confusing - but fine once you figure it out.

Nice rooms. Clean hotel. Very disappointed in the hotel service. Arrived at 2:30 (30 minutes before check-in). Was told the room wasn't ready but that they would put a rush on it and it wouldn't be long. Waited for 2 hours before finally getting the key. Hotel manager ignored my email that I sent describing the experience. Elevators also had several mechanical issues. Only one elevator worked for most of our stay.

Update: A week after our stay I did hear from the hotel manager who happened to be on vacation during our stay. He seemed sincerely apologetic about our situation and offered a free night at the hotel.

Hotel is very nice, and rinds of the Royal York hotel in Toronto. "Petite" room are incredibly small, but we'll appointed. Overall, ok, but probably won't stay again because of size of room.

We stayed here in August. After returning home to Australia, we found were overcharged 100's of dollars.
I have made numerous attempts to contact the Lord Nelson through several different email channels. All emails have been ignored. Really, really poor effort.
Another example of being ripped off in a foreign country. I would not have expected this from a prominent Hotel.

Location is perfect. Walking distance to downtown. Room was lacking maintenance, the wallpaper was peeling. No toilet paper when we arrived, although it was promptly brought up after requested. The bathtub was filled with water and there was no fitted sheets on the beds. Expected a lot more for the price point.

4 star hotel.

4 star hotel.

The gym was small and it not easy to understand the excercise equipment, managed to get a work out in regardless. Don't expect to do any strength training there.

As a suggestion, I would like in the future for there to be a pool or hot tub.

The omlettes for breakfast we're quite good, the chef making them was also very courteous.
