Nice wooden panelled old place, friendly staff, room air ventilation a bit noisy and door to hallway now light tight, but great location on the park with easy car parking. View is from the ninth floor looking West.

Booked executive room as only one available at short notice. (Fri - Mon) Stayed here as friend became ill on cruise ship and required overnight hospital stay. Room was quiet and great and Phyllis from housekeeping was excellent. Brian at concierge was also excellent and provided a great service. All other concierge staff and front desk staff were also helpful. The business centre was great and to be able to scan/email documents for travel insurance at no cost was helpful. The only 2 issues I had are: 1)phone did not work in room which meant I needed to use my mobile on roaming to deal with travel insurance. Front desk kept putting calls through to a phone that didn't work even though the issue had been reported and not able to be fixed. 2) food in pub/restaurant very basic. Couldn't get a meal with vegetables. Lighting very dark so difficult to read a book while dining when alone.

Beautiful building with friendly staff. Rooms are very clean and have comfortable mattresses. The rooms are unfortunately quite small and plain in comparison to the rest of the hotel decor. Would gladly stay again.

The rooms are excellent. Lobby looks dated. Construction outside makes getting to the hotel very challenging. Parking is stupidly expensive. Park on the street, it's free. The construction also made the experience very noisy. Insulation between rooms could be dramatically improved.

They cancelled our booking and didn't notify us or our travel agent. We were made to feel it was our fault (A computer error on their end apparently). No apology whatsoever.. so disappointing even though they did find us a room eventually.

Attended a professional event at the Lord Nelson today. Hospitality service was amazing and was able to adjust my meal to accommodate my vegan diet. To be honest, my meal looked better than the rest. Super clean lobby and bathrooms as well and great customer service at the desk and door

Terrible experience using underground parking. Their system for letting customers leave the garage was broken, and the attendant on the intercom was insistent it was my fault. She decide to talk over me and repeatedly tell me I was wrong and that I needed to pay a second time. I said no, and she replied that it must be my fault because their system worked fine all day. When a security guard for the hotel came to manually override the gate, their system wouldn't work. That terrible woman on the intercom put me in such a bad mood that my evening was ruined. I will never give any business to this hotel again.

Love these guys...The service, the food, the rooms! As Brinton Photography here in Halifax / Dartmouth I shoot photography here often and they are always helpful and go above and beyond to make you happy! Highly Recommend!

Ideal "downtown" location. Located across the street from the serene and historical "Public Gardens", just steps from shops, library, cinemas, and nightlife, and just a short walk to other historic sites and the waterfront (it's a nice downhill stroll, but you might want to catch a cab or a rickshaw back up the hill). Clean & comfortable rooms, some of which overlook the Public Gardens, although others aren't quite so lucky view wise. Great location and there is ample (PAID) parking if you bring your own transportation.

Amazing service and the room was very clean and perfectly set up. Great location as well. Has a business centre, gym and a stunning lobby and a grand piano upstairs. Don't forget the pub downstairs!.

The hotel is nice enough - clean and modern. However, we had to be moved from our room because gross water was being blown out by the air unit. Also, self parking is $28 a night plus tax, which was not clear when we booked the room. A bit of an unfair trick in my opinion...

I am staying here for one week for a professional event. it has been 6 years since I've been at the Lord Nelson Hotel. The renovations are quite appealing and attractive. The check-in process was seamless and the staff were friendly. There is always someone greeting you as you enter the hotel. there is decent elevator access and also alternate access to the various floors by the staircase. I was quite satisfied with my room. It was clean, tidy and met all of my needs during my stay. I will highly recommend this hotel. location was fantastic and close to a lot of great restaurants. Best of all, one minute walk from a local McDonalds.

It was a nice hotel, looks good. We attended for a wedding inside the hotel.

When we left, the hotel charged me $50 for bottles of wine that i did not even drink. Someone made an error. I called the hotel and was told the manager would return my call, the manager never called me back. I then emailed Lord Nelson and never got a response. For $50 not worth starting a small claims file but fairly disappointed. I will not be staying at Lord Nelson in the future.

Beautiful, stunning lobby. very considerate guest services, upgraded our room b/c we found a couple of weird bugs that turned out to be harmless. Odd, tacky decor in the hallways. Past the lobby everything looks run down. Beat up, cheap dated furniture in the rooms. The first room we were in was an executive king; it had a tiny shower in the bathroom like you might find in an RV. The room we were upgraded to had a broken AC unit. It took maintenance 45 minutes to get to our room to fix it. We had to call down 3 times. The mattress was mushy and worn. The couches were rock hard. Parking cost as much as car rental, which is a little insulting when free night parking is available across the street. The Lord Nelson falls staggeringly short of its stunning first impression.

Located in a great neighbourhood, approximately 10 minutes to walk to the harbour area, and right across from the beautiful public garden. Gorgeous, well maintained, and the rooms are clean, spacious, and incredibly comfortable. The service is top notch. The hotel restaurant was beautifully kept as well, with great service and a diverse, delicious menu.

It's ok, but the walls are thin, the elevator's slow, and the bathroom has no counter space. Room itself is fine, air conditioning control pad didn't work very well though. I'd probably stay somewhere else next time.

The hotel is rather hot, and the thermostat in the room I'm sharing with a friend won't let you turn the heat off. Beds are rather hard, which I don't mind, but can play havoc with anyone who has physical issues like scoliosis or bursitis. Also the room wasn't fully ready when we arrived. On the other hand, the staff we dealt with were excellent. Prices for food are somewhat ridiculously high, and the elevators are quite slow. Otherwise, it's a good hotel.

Hosted a beautiful wedding but the room was overpriced for the size, have bad insulation (can hear everything) also the housekeeper stole my earrings I had left in the room. Call the day after leaving about the earrings and said that they couldn't find them, when I know I left them on the bedside table. Wouldn t recommend.

TL;DR: don't be fooled by the grand lobby and facade. The rooms do not match the luxury suggested by the 1st floor. About the same as you'd get at any chain hotel but 2x the price.

Staying here 3 nights was the biggest disappointment I've ever experienced with a hotel. I've been to Halifax a few times for work and got put up in your standard big chain hotel. I thought I'd spend a little extra on vacation with the wife and go for the experience of staying in a historical hotel that advertises:

"The hotel s elegance, charm and Maritime hospitality attracts guests from around the world, including royalty, politicians and celebrities."

Our first impression was very positive. Doors opened for us by white-gloved doormen, and then seeing the grand lobby. The front desk was very friendly and even offered to upgrade us from the basic room to one of their parlour suites for free. We were so happy with our choice at this point.

Then we got to the room.

We called to let them know this wasn't really to our expectation, and also that the room didn't seem like it had been cleaned. They were very kind to apologize and move us, but the next room was the same disappointment and an even smaller bathroom the size of a 5x8 prison cell.

At this point we didn't want to kick up a fuss and just tried to make the best of it.

The breakfast buffet was your standard sausage, bacon, potatoes, rubber eggs, cereal, and a self serve waffle station. Again not the kind of thing you'd expect from a so-called luxury hotel. We were told the night before there was to be an omlette station.

Parking is $28/day and the free Wi-Fi is throttled so it's only useful for email.

Besides the grandeur of the lobby, you're getting a standard chain hotel experience and paying double for a huge disappointment.
