Staff is great. Room is small but nicely decorated. This is not the 1st time I get into a bed with sheets that pill in this hotel. It s totally unacceptable. You won t even find pilled sheets in the cheapest hotels! I don t understand how the quality of bedding doesn t correspond to a hotel of this caliber. Making my stay very uncomfortable.

I'll try and make a long story short here.. I booked a room here for two nights with a pretty great deal on Hotels Tonight. The hotel has a great reputation so I was happy to get such a good rate. Unfortunately the hotel room we got was extremely filthy. There were spider webs, dust everywhere and all sorts of drug and bodily fluid residues.
The head of house keeping came to take a look and was horrified. She handled it very well and told us she would use the room as a teaching experience for the other house keepers. She also upgraded us to a nicer room, which was appreciated. The upgraded room was very decent and we had a good time there. My only other draw backs are that the wifi is expensive and the parking tricky.
I would probably not stay there again unless I knew I was getting an upgraded room.
The night manager was a really awesome guy as well and helped us out on more than one occasion.
Great service and quality of room, even in their smallest room. Internet was a little slow but usable. Gym was also a bit small but perfectly functional. Ideal location. Great overall :)
Nice hotel very friendly staff. Location is OK if you don't mind walking. My room was nice the only thing I was not a fan of was the laminate flooring. Some early morning vacuuming from the maid in the room directly above mine woke me up.
Stayed here and seemed like I was nickel and dimed for everything. Said we needed parking but apparent parking is free in Halifax on the weekends which they never told us.
We arrived very late in the evening and the front desk staff were very helpful getting us checked. We were a small group of six. Even though it was late, when asked about water, they provided us additional complementary bottles. Additionally, we called back for blankets for the bed and they were quickly brought up. Mind you it was after 1a.m. at this point. I was very impressed and pleased. The hotel is located in a great location, near eateries, coffee shops and just across the street from the Public Gardens. Currently there is construction happening down the street, but I haven't noticed any disruptions. It's also been recently renovated. Beds are quite comfortable. There is underground parking for $20 per day. However, on the weekends, metered street parking is free.
Side Note: I didn't personally dine at the restaurant at the hotel, but my travel mates did. They were unimpressed. Otherwise, wonderful stay.
Very convenient for downtown Halifax. The hotel is very comfortable, the restaurant is good value and tasty. Parking is next to the hotel and costs 28CD per day +taxes
The Lord Nelson has a good reputation amidst the numerous hotels in Halifax. I certainly wasn't disappointed. I live nearby, but needed a getaway for a special moment: engagement. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and excited for me. Genuine interest in my situation. The evening itself was wonderful in a King Suite. Breakfast at the Arms in the morning was a bit pricey, but extremely tasty. Thank you, Lord Nelson, for making a special night so wonderful!
OK location, though a bit of a hike to the waterfront boardwalk. The room was small, but not uncomfortable, though the street view bathroom window was a bit unusual. I would have given this hotel a higher rating, but they committed the unforgivable offense of having no hot water, with no prior warning. Cold morning showers are unforgivable. Staff response was that, since we booked through a 3d party, nothing they could do. Sorry. Unacceptable!
I feel very badly for recommending the Lord Nelson to friend. She recently stayed here with her young nieces. The bathroom door fell into the bathroom and on her ten year old niece. It is a fluke that the child wasn t injured. As you can see from the photos, it isn t even a proper door but a bifold closet door that didn t fit the doorframe. At best, it provided no privacy as there was a large gap between the door and the doorframe, but in fact was a safety hazard.
This is unacceptable for a hotel that bills itself as a four star property. The hotel s lack of response to this matter is appalling. My friend has left multiple messages for the hotel general manager as well as the owner, and weeks later no one has been in touch with her. They ought to be bending over backwards to resolve this matter, not completely ignoring a guest who has been calm and reasonable when she has every reason to be irate. They ought to be embarrassed at their lack of professionalism.
I can no longer recommend the Lord Nelson to friends and colleagues and will not be staying here on my visits to Halifax in the future. In fact I ll be making a point to highlight to others NOT to stay here and why.
Elegant hotel in the center. Everything is within easy walking distance. Beautiful park directly opposite. Very friendly staff at the reception and bar. Absolutely comfortable beds. Great location. The bathroom is small and you shower in the bathtub with shower curtain. In some rooms there is no safe. You can deposit your valuables at the reception in lockers. Breakfast was ok. My room was always clean. I would book again.
We wish we could have stayed on better circumstances and enjoyed they stay more but all we really got to do was have a bit of a sleep... The beds and pillows are comfortable, nice furniture, nice TV, could have had a better hair dryer.
Nice place, but when problems arise it comes in waves. Didn't get the room I booked, then moved to another room where there was a constant hmm from the main fans above the hotel, then moved to another room where it had used towels on the shower floor. They did try to fix the problem by offering us buffet breakfast in the morning, but I am glad I didn't pay for it.
At the Lord Nelson for an event. I haven't been here for awhile. I'd forgotten what a nice facility it is... .old fashioned luxury with large rooms, lots of sitting areas. The carpets, mouldings, and chandeliers all contribute to a historical experience. Even the bathrooms are large and open like you don't see anymore, with decorative tiled floors. Love this place. Very convenient to Spring Garden road for lunch and meals too.
Everything was great until the last morning when the room beside us was getting cleaned at 7am. On a Saturday. About 45 mins of cans rattling, glasses clinking and doors slamming. Not the best wake up call. Other than that, not bad.
They have the best showers EVER!!!! Bed was extremely comfortable. Clean. Very pleasant staff. Big beautiful beautiful room. Nice big tv up high enough to see it from laying in bed. Easy access from highway. BUT no elevator and no enclosed stairways. The weather was bad and had to walk up outside stairs. No breakfast.
Room wasn't ready well after check-in time, so we received an excellent room upgrade. One of the largest and nicest bathrooms I've ever seen in an older hotel.
Stayed two nights for an interview, excellent service, room clean and as described, staff was exceptionally accommodating. Location is convenient on Spring Garden Road close to restaurants. Highly Recommended
Nice hotel with a great location. Walking distance to everything, right across the street from a beautiful public garden. The staff was friendly, comfortable bed and clean room. Only, very minor complaint is that the bathroom is quite small.
We stay here during our 14 days quarantine period, they have amazing service and spacious suits with mini kitchen in it,best place to stay, highly recommended
What a nice place! Very nice and courteous staff. The room was also very clean and comfortable. The hotel was close to quite a few things and a bit of a walk to the water but we enjoyed as much as the city had to offer. Would definitely recommend!
