Spent the weekend here. No complaints. Great location, clean rooms and welcoming staff. My only complaint was the power went out and there was no one in the lobby when we returned with directions or any information. Besides that I enjoyed my stay

Lovely hotel with some of the best accommodations and service that I have ever received. The rooms are modern and very comfortable. Amenities and location can't be beat. I would, without any hesitation, stay here again.
The hotel staff are very friendly and efficient. Check in and checkout were seamless. Main concern was the smell in the room. I didn't want to make a big deal when I first arrived and spoke to the front desk about it (my own fault) but I was staying in room 620 and there was a strong nauseating chemical/gas smell in the room that made it difficult to fall asleep even with an open window. I have now returned home and all my clothes and luggage smell now too. When I brought this up to the front desk they told me there should be no reason for it and all ros likely smell the same. If that's the case, I won't be able to stay here again. It's too bad too, everything else was excellent.
I love the laminate floors in the rooms, the rooms are clean and while maybe not as big as newer hotels (not suitable for having tons of people over to the room) they are perfectly sized for staying overnight with your luggage very comfortably. The hotel is classy and the restaurant downstairs is great.
Stayed there twice before. Had good experience. Very nice staff. Only the lobby and dinning room kept it historical charm the rest of the hotel has been renovated to meet morden taste. Has very good breakfast buffet! Room are ok size, ok comfort. Good sound proof.
The Lord Nelson is gorgeous hotel situated right beside the public gardens. Each of my stays there have been wonderful, and is definetly my hotel of choice.
The Bell hop was at our car as soon as we pulled up. He was lovely and attentive. The front desk was helpful when I needed help sending some post cards to my friend. Our TV guide was not working so we called the front desk and within minutes a maintenance man was at our room and made sure we were satisfied before he left. The Nespresso machine in the room was a pleasant surprise and there was also tea and a kettle available. There was also a mini fridge, safe, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer in our room. Lovely old regale hotel with azing staff. Would recommend
This large nine floor hotel is situated on the edge of downtown Halifax. The public areas are clean and tastefully furnished. The bar/restaurant is furnished to create a pub atmosphere. The food menu is competitively priced offering a range of snacks and full meals. The bar is well stocked and offers a range of local beers. Our room was on the eighth floor with commanding views of a public park. The room was a generous size with a large bed, plenty of storage, work station and fridge. The bathroom was a little on the small size with a shower over the bath.
I was at the Lord Nelson Hotel for a special event re Victoria Day. The hotel has always been one of my favorite places to stay. Clean, comfortable, modern, with atmosphere. I like the location. It is close enough to downtown , you can walk to the beautiful waterfront. It is across the street from the Public Gardens where you can stroll, admire the flowers, trees and beautiful nature. Stay for a night or a week and you will have lovely memories. If one does not want to stay overnight, just stop to have a bite or to quench your thirst.
Awful hotel, room didn't have any heat so we got switched to a smaller room at 1am with no compensation. No complimentary breakfast & super expensive parking.
My partner and myself stayed here and booked the Savour Love package for an early V-Day. To start everything off, we had to ask them to park our car. She had no idea the valet parking came with our package. She didn't really know anything came with our package. The TVs in our room was really hard to use. We called the front desk and they just said we had to push the remote buttons harder. We did that and still nothing, We went out for supper at the Waterfront Warehouse and that was the best part of our stay in town. We thought we would be getting our "Turn down service" while we were out for supper. We stayed out until late that night and when we got back, our beds weren't touched. My partner called down to ask about it and they said that our "turn down service" was the wine they had waiting for us in the room when we checked in at 2:30pm that afternoon. Then the girls laughed at my partner for calling and asking. (Worst white wine ever. Must have cost buck, if that) The walls are super thin. We could hear the TV next door all night(at least they had a TV to watch). Our shower didn't look like it was cleaned (had hairs all over the walls). In the morning we went down for breakfast. We got a plate between the 2 of us and picked up 2 cold hard boiled eggs, a strawberry each, a few cuts of melon and a yogurt. There wasn't much else to choose from (and we are not picky people at all). We sat down and a lady got us some tea. Then she came to our table asking how we wanted to pay. I was shocked because I've never had to pay for a breakfast like that before. Every hotel I've been in (and that's a lot of hotels from traveling all over) this type of breakfast is free. It comes with your room. And we spent extra on our room for the package. Turns out there was a little sign tucked in the corner beside the elevator on our floor saying that this breakfast cost $12.99 PER PERSON! The ONLY reason we give The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites a star, is because the guys at the front doors were very nice. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
absolute finest in hospitality. wonderful experience from top to bottom, from the staff, to the amenities, large and small, overall exceptional experience. I will certainly be back
We had a freshly renovated room and the furnishings were quite nice, but we were surprised to find that the bathroom had no ventilation--it was super foggy after showers. The location is great, good food options near by and an easy walk to the Citadel and the harbour, and the service was excellent. The construction next door, however, means that you have to walk several blocks to get to the outside self-parking if your vehicle is tall or has a roof mounted cargo box.
This is my first time EVER posting a review of anything!! I have travelled extensively around the world and a 54 yo professional. I was astounded by the inefficient operation and lack of customer service , in all elements of this supposed, 4 star hotel. When I first tried to book on line I was unable to do so. I called and was told that the web booking feature would be back up the following day. I tried again and the same process repeated. After three days of trying to book in line and getting told the same story I elected to book the old fashioned way- by phone. On the day of my scheduled arrival I was called and told I was a no show for the previous night. I was also told I had only booked one night. They then told me they would try to accommodate me the two nights I had originally booked BUT they would also charge me for the day I had NEVER booked. On the night of my arrival there was a bride to be in the lobby, absolutely distraught with the complete and utter mismanagement of her 30k worth of bookings ( 6 months in advance) that the hotel had mismanaged and were telling her that her future mother in law would have to sleep in a cot with three other people in a two person room and there was nothing they could do. In my circumstance, a nice junior manager tried to help me with a refund of the night charges that was due to their error, but the revenue manager refused to accommodate me in ANY way. I was astounded. I will never ever ever stay at any hotel again that is not a chain and I certainly would never consider this hotel again
Beautiful rooms and great service, but I felt like we were being overcharged at every opportunity, site was in American prices and parking was $30 for one night
Very friendly staff and clean rooms. Great area for bars. Wouldn't recommend getting mixed drinks at the bar in the lobby my fiance and I both got drinks and they were not good. Other than that I loved the classy atmosphere.
We had a fantastic stay at this well appointed and historic hotel. The family room was spacious with, most importantly comfortable beds to feel rested. An ideal location for exploring Halifax.
A truly classic early 20th century hotel. The rooms are more modern furnished and the amenities are what you would expect from a grand old hotel. Bonus points for the interesting mail collection system.
Very nice hotel. Extremely clean and well stocked rooms. Staff are very helpful. Was here through my flight being cancelled and even under the circumstances enjoyed my stay a lot. Would stay here again for sure!
Check in process was very slow and antiquated, We waited in a long line to check in for at least 30 min to be told our room is not ready for another hour, we would then have to wait in the line again when we return. We were also promised a call to let us know our room was ready, but were never called. We found the bellman very unfriendly and unhelpful. The first one completely ignored my wife when trying to store our bags. The second one took our bags but didnt say hi and didnt bother explaining where our bags were going, will they bring them up? Etc. The good - rooms were small but very clean and updated, beds were comfortable. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel, for the slow check-in, poor communication, and some unfriendly staff.
I stay here for business. It s a really great location right next to a park and about a 10 min walk to the waterfront. About 25 min drive from airport.
It s really impressive as you walk in. A very Victorian look. Rooms also really well designed; quite chic. They have Nespresso coffee machines!
Played in the Can-At regional bridge tournament here. Nice room, well lit. We did not stay in the hotel (too expensive), and the parking was also out of reach. The tournament committee had arranged for less expensive parking at a nearby hotel, but it was quite a hike from there to the Nelson for two people who can't walk distances easily. Location next to the Public Gardens was great, because we took a picnic lunch and ate amid the flowers and birds every day (again, a long walk, but at least with a rest after it).
They offered me an easy upgrade to my room, were helpful with looking up directions. The decor and vibe is elegant. I like to walk so walking distance from my office was decent. Not here for vacation.
One of the best Hotel and Suites in Halifax! Large conference room, have high speed wi-fi. Different types of foods. Net and clean environment. Rooms are spacious.
Excellent location, wonderful staff, the best continental breakfast. Underground parking connected to a small mall. Beds are comfortable but sheets are poor. Rooms are very variable probably due to age of hotel.
It was okay. The public areas like the lobby and pub were lovely but our room was disappointing for a hotel of this calibre. There was rust on the radiator in the bathroom and a fist sized hole in the wall near the air conditioner. The bedding didn't see to have been changed as there was hair that was neither mine nor my husband's in the sheets. There are many other hotels in Halifax I would recommend over the Lord Nelson.
Fantastic location for us to stay during our visit to Halifax. It's right downtown, away from the noise, but ever so close to it. There are some very nice bars and places to dine close by, and a beautiful garden park across the street. The hotel was nice and the rooms were fairly chic and modern. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only reason not 5 stars because our check-in was at 3 but we didn't get our room until maybe 5:30 which was a bit of a downer. Aside from that I would stay again. If your here in the summer check out Still Wells beer garden in the evening!
Very disappointed some staff are not friendly to help. room had no heat but they did finally move us to another room at 130am when at restaurant asked for a staw they dont carry them and do Not accommodate for people with disabilities
Very disappointing. Price was almost double the advertised price on the website. Room was 10X12 feet, very small, view of a brick wall through the top half of the small window, the bottom half had the AC in it. I would never stay there again.
