Great easy place to unwind good appetizers... Good drinks. Cold beer
Great food and amazing service. Loved the ambiance of the place. Will enjoy going again.
Not bad at all. Good atmosphere and vibe from this place. Bartender was really nice. Drinks at a reasonable price. Food decent. Would come back.
I want to like the Lion and Rose. I try. But it is always a disappointing experience. Our last visit our waitress was poorly trained and inattentive - we had to go up to the bar to get drink refills. They were out of several beers and menu items. And it was a slow evening. On the plus side, you can almost always walk up and get a table - even on a busy weekend. Of course, there is probably a reason for that. The food is tasty, so if you are not in a hurry and have a good sense of humor, give it a shot.
Pretty good place to stop after work for a few drinks.
The bangers and mash were great, the servers did their best, and the owner was friendly. I went with some friends to watch a World Cup match and the restaurant was severely understaffed with no hostess. We had to seat ourselves and then try to get a server's attention. I applaud the servers for busting their butts, but whoever is in charge of the schedule is awful. It's a British pub and they were short staffed for an England game...that's just dumb.
I was there for a Meet and Greet, it went well. The staff was excellent and the food, although finger food it was delicious - meatballs, veggies, chicken bits and dunking sauces.
I would leave 0 stars if I could.
Since the beginning of December I had been trying to make a reservation for a big party to take advantage of the $.99 mimosas and $1.50 Bloody Mary special they have on Sundays. Our group meets every month and we were excited to try a new place. After calling several times and being left on hold until I would hang up, I decided to reach out via Facebook and let them know we we re coming so they could prepare for a large group. They replied that they would be happy to have us.
That day (1/6/19), one of my guests arrived before I did and when he came in and asked for our party, the hostess told him to look for the menus on the table and sit there. She didn t even point out where the menus were. What kind of sorry hostess doesn t take a guest to their table? That s half of their job description!!!
As the rest of our party continues to arrive, we ordered a round of mimosas for everyone around 11:40am. A little bit after, we were already 20 guests waiting to be served and OUR ONLY SERVER (who happened to be new) was clearly overwhelmed but no help arrived even thou there was no one else in the restaurant.
Around 12:15pm we start ordering our food... the mimosas still hadn t arrived so we asked for them a second time. 20-ish minutes after, several ppl start bringing our food. The manager came to our table to drop off a plate and we tell her that s it s been almost an hour since we ordered the FIRST round of mimosas and we still didn t have them. Instead of her talking to the server to find out what was going on she went on to say, in a very sarcastic tone, that we had just ordered them so the bar was busy mixing the drinks so we needed to be patient. She mentioned that the bar ticket times were around 2 minutes, clearly trying to let us know that she thought we were lying about ordering an hour before. Mind you, we are all between 30-50yrs old so the last thing we need when we go out is to get scolded by management.
At this point everyone but myself had their meal. Apparently my ticket for an omelette had been lost or something so the server asks me to wait a few more minutes. 15 minutes later everyone is done eating at which point I cancel my food and tell her to bring us the checks. How do you leave the host without food?!?? The person that brought you all that business!! They clearly didn t care, the manager didn t even bother to apologize or offer anything for the inconvenience.
All in all, I drove 40 minutes to enjoy some food and mimosas and in the 2 1/2 hours we were there I didn t eat and only got 1 mimosa. It was a huge waste of time.
I will NEVER recommend this place or bring my group back again. The service was sorry, and management was a joke. NEVER AGAIN!
**Edited to add: In reply to the owner's comment below. No sir, I didn't take the name of the rude, incompetent manager. But i did give you the specific date and time our group visited your establishment so if you REALLY want to investigate and do something, you can.
One of the best British eateries this side of the pond. I love the atmosphere here. The owners really did a great job in making a new landmark for food and service here in San Antonio
Good selection of Irish and British beers. They make a good Black and Tan.
We went there expecting to have a good time, enjoy the food (cabbage). And then after be seated there for a very long time we knew they don't want to serve us. What a shame a nice place like that have a wrong policy with foreigner people like me. Not recommended for me.
Racheal was a great waitress! Great beer, great food!
I love their London Curry! It's the 911 cure for a gloomy day! My wife swears by their fish & chips!
This is my third time here and by far the best experience of the three. Our waitress was attentive and brunch was delicious! Wish it would ve been like this the first two times
This franchise used to be good. Overpriced food and fake atmosphere. No longer a,pleasant place to go.
Atmosphere was awesome, food was great, our server Kristen was excellent. We will be back.
Wonderful place for drinks with friends! Great happy hour drinks and appetizer specials, very comfortable and lovely atmosphere!!
Solid English pub atmosphere with a fair menu and average service. Excellent Geeks Who Drink trivia night on Wednesdays.
Our server Niny was incredible! I was catching up with a friend so we were never ready to order but she remained patient and attentive. Once our food was ordered, she remained attentive and took care of our every need. We both had the shepherd's pie which was fantastic. We finished the meal off with their new English Triffle which was delicious! I will be returning on my next trip to SA!
Great Atmosphere, Friendly and prompt waitstaff and delicious food await you at The Lion and Rose.
I have eaten for years at the location on Broadway and many, many times at the location at The Rim. Last night, there were very few customers at The Rim location, many staff were there, but service was poor. Got one drink we didn t order, got one beer in timely manner, took 15 minutes for the next beer, calamari showed up on time, bruschetta took 45 minutes, ridiculous. Staff were preoccupied with taking selfies , I don t get it. Needs a change in management and tighten up that staff.
Service was great. Took care of us quickly. Gave it a four due to my steak being slightly overcooked. But hey it was still good. Just gotta be honest. atmosphere was coo too. I'm sure I'll be back there.
Did the Valentine's dinner for two. Good food great service.
Nice atmosphere at this location. Probably my favorite lion and the rose in San Antonio. . .
Favorite place in San Antonio.
We used to have like 5 around town.
What the hell happened to all the others.
this place is for old folks and corny hipster kids.
My mom s and my favorite pub in San Antonio every time I visit San Antonio from Austin! I especially love the Bangers and Mash! There I was with my mom for a late Mother s Day there yesterday!
The food was good and our server did a great job of taking care of us.
We were greeted, seated, and offered drinks immediately upon entering. The chips and cheese appetizer came out hot and fresh. I ordered the Tour of Britain and Hubby the Jameson Bacon Cheddar. Both were totally scrumptious. The fish was cooked perfectly, flaky on the inside and crispy on the outside, served up hot and fresh. The fried onions on the burger were crispy too. Definitely a place to come back to!
I lived in England for 6 years back in the 80's, and every time I want to eat some fairly authentic British comfort food, I always come to The Lion & Rose. From fish & chips, shepherd's pie and bangers & mash, the food is always good. They also have a great selection of draft beers, locals, domestic and imported, including some good British and Irish ones. The staff is always very friendly and make you feel at home.
I've had the fish and chips, the bangers and mash, and the scotch eggs. Perfect every time. Friendly and competent wait staff. Top it off with a Bass, Harp or "Smiddicks" and that's a British experience.
Update
Just found out they make 51 percent of their income from alcohol, which means no firearms allowed, even if you have a permit. As much as i enjoy the food, i can't eat there any more. Carrying your usually legal, licensed firearm could get you two years. Alcohol wasn't even 20 percent of my bill, but as long as that sign is up I'll have to go somewhere else.
Great pub food with a cool atmosphere. Lots of TVs to watch the games.
I love this restaurant. Always a great experience and food is amazing!
Great food, but drinks are pricey. They need a better happy hour!
Never busy which makes you wonder why no one come in. Music is controlled by the staff who, today, gave the controls to a waitress' boyfriend who changed a song I was softly singing to myself to some weird 60's obscure British station. This guy is always here with the female staff hanging around him just giving off the creepiest vibes. The food has been hit or miss so not reliable. If you want solitude, this is the place to be.
I went here for restaurant week. The food was fantastic and the overall ambience of the place was a bonus. It's pretty cool and feels very British. I definitely need to go back for dinner and try some bangers and mash or another true British meal. I wish this place was a little closer to my house. Maybe they will open one on the far west side...hint hint....
british food and the setting at this location is excellent. the place has a good feel to it.
Friendly spot with very attentive staff. I went during the week they had the game on and it felt like a family atmosphere
The mimosas are rich
The decorations are kitsch
Don't get the fried egg sandwich
Waitstaff was nice though
I liked it a lot and the place and the atmosphere are very nice ...
Miss the location on 410. I would describe my experience in full if there was any service to describe. Should close this location instead.
Had Jack and coke. Waitress was nice. Had sports paying on all tvs.
Good selection of draft beers, nice clean glasses, attentive friendly staff, well-prepared pub food options with a couple vegetarian friendly options...this place has gotten much better recently!
Loved it first time visit, I'm a fan and will definitely be back
A terrible experience and an incredibly rude manager. Never going back
This place is great! Great service and great pub food. The Shepard's Pie is fantastic. People - they have imported Strongbow Cider!! The sweet one, and it's the real deal! You're welcome!
Great place for soccer lovers and those visiting from across the pond. Food is great, though a little on the salty side
The service okay, the burger and fries were below avg. The fries taisted like they had been sitting for a long time and the burger was rare not medium well like ordered. You might ask why I didn't you send it back,
So delicious I like the place a lot. Will be coming back and refer friends.
Was my first time here,i really ever so loved it! The Waitress Michelle was really cool and pretty awesome.
Probably one of if not the best burger I have ever tasted. The monster one for $14 plus, it was worth the money and time.
Shout out to chef/cook Jacob!
You re the man
Had a blast and Amanda videl made the one hour trip worth while awesome service I will recommend all my friends go.
Veryyy disappointed! Drove for an hour just to come for awesome brunch and cheap mimosas for my Sunday funday just to be told by a terrible waitress that they no longer do their brunch liberations. Update your online menu! Still had a mimosa and ate because I was already there but it was wayyy out of my way for an over rated Brunch that I could of had around here.
My favorite restaurant. Great food, great athmosphere. Excellent customer service. Shelby, thank you for your attention to every little detail to make a customer really feel appreciated.
I love this place. The atmosphere is awesome, the staff is always great, the food is delicious. The bar is massive and can accommodate a ton of people, and theres enough TVs that you can bet your game will be on on game day. Try the beer cheese!
Lovely pub :) great for after work drinks, cheaper but still great drink and food options around the rim. Always recommend! Also Mary the bar manager is the sweetest!
Worse bar I have been to in a while. Show up to the bar, bartender with dark hair and Kardashian wannabe looking eyebrows is rude to my party of 4, tells us it's happy hour, proceeds to tell us she was wrong and charges us normal prices anyways. Bar was sticky with red goo. Keep having a good time with my boyfriend and sing some karaoke. I SEE HIM pay with cash for his second beer and Kardashian wannabe bartender tells him he didn't pay AFTER he pays for his third beer. She keeps the money for the third beer and tells him he won't be getting his third beer until he pays. We go to management and they offer us to give us our money back and ask us to leave. Would not recommend to any of our friends, their friends, their parents, or their freaking dog. Would give a 0/10 if that was possible.
Good beer and a great place to play Geeks Who Drink Trivia or watch a game on one of several big screens. The location is convenient and the service is wonderful.
My husband an I had a great meal. Started off with the chips and cheese sauce then a Ruben with fried mushrooms and pineapple ale for me and a prime rib sandwhich with chips and coke for him. It was all good. We had a great waitress to top it off. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in San Antonio.
I guess The Lion and the Rose is trolling me for a review. I have never had anything good (food or drink) at this establishment.
Not much like a pub. Cold feel, more like bright lights, big city.
The place is a decent place for a venue and the food was okay but not worth the price. Ordered a simple burger and fries. To that end, my food was served warm and fries were cold. For $16 it wasn't worth the price. I believe alot had to do with the servers.
The server I had was not as attentive as they could have been I had to ask a refill on my drink three times before I recieved another refill at the end of my meal. Overall was not happy with the service and will not return.
Was there yesterday and a new server( pretty sure her name name was ava but could be wrong, she started yesterday) was fast and friendly. Got my drinks right away and she made our visit very welcoming. There was a female manager touching tables and talking with the the staff and it was a welcoming restaurant. The male manager wearing a suit (did not catch his name) was also great. I just moved back to San Antonio opening my practice and will be telling all to come here. Great Job everyone!!
Casual pub feel with a friendly staff. The food is a little lackluster, but not bad. Their Irish Philly is an interesting take on the classic Philly cheese steak.
Service was exceptional & food was amazing...but some careless people rallying for Trump were all packing into a room without masks & totally ignoring COVID protective measures. I spoke to the manager on my way out & ran the scenario unfolding before our eyes. He nonchalantly commented on how he was wearing his mask. How does this attitude protect lives? This is an abomination.
Service was great ..adhered to social distancing .. nice to have somewhere to go on a Saturday night..harder and harder to find
I came for a meeting with Armed Service Veterans, the staff was extremely accommodating, gave a space to us veterans for our meeting, and all staff members were very kind. I cant wait to bring my wife here for a date. Interior is cozy, and they play good music! 5 stars all the way.
Our group did not eat there except for one or two of us, we went to drink and they were able to accommodate our big group that kept getting bigger as the night went on. The two guys playing music last night were great!
Friendly staff and the managers were very hands on. Great atmosphere. Fantastic food. And they have karaoke on Sundays! Highly recommend for a great time
