I went there a couple of years ago. Very unfriendly person at front desk. She said she couldn't help me because I had a 10 year old son at home. So sad for the cats and dogs needing homes.

First time I have gone to the Humane Society and I was rather impressed. All of the people there were so wonderful and understanding. They handled my scared and anti-social dog better than an vet before LOL

I've adopted a cat and a dog from this humane society, and I cannot say enough good things about them. Professional, caring, understanding, and truly helpful. They want the best matches they can find for their pets, and really care about giving them a good home. They also sell all of their cats for the same price and all of their dogs for one price. A great place and adoption experience!

Love the front desk people but it ends there. My dog was getting free heartworm treatments there paid for by the rescue. Every time she had a heartworm treatment she would get a chest scan and before the treatment. The whole time there was a mass in her chest getting bigger and they failed to mention anything at all about that to me just that the heartworm treatment was going well. So my dog became sick over a weekend and I had to take her to blue pearl. There they received all of her scans and info from the humane society and they informed me about this giant mass in her chest now that was clearly getting bigger and huge throughout these scans and they did not mention anything to me about it. I would have never known unless the blue pearl vet told me or received these scans. They told me what the vets did there was not humane at all and pretty much just sick. And could have been doing treatments for any discomfort she was having. I would never come back or reccomend them to anyone ever.

I understand the age limit for adoptions, but no questions were asked about my experience with animals (personal home zoo, 5 years experience in a pet store, 7 years of volunteer work and many kitten litters raised) when I requested if it were possible to have a chaperone help me adopt since I am 4 months away from the age restriction. I would have loved to have rescued from this location since I have heard great things about it, but it honestly comes down to getting cats into loving homes and the restriction is not allowing the best for the animals.

Unbelievably horrible service. I've been patronizing this particular location for at least 6 years. I should've left sooner.

Walking in the Humane Society, no one says "hello", asks "how are you?", "how may I help you?". You get silent stares, and passive aggressive answers to your questions. I don't care about your work outside of volunteering at the Humane Society, if you are volunteering as a receptionist, you must put on a smile, be helpful, and make people feel welcome.

One of my dogs, hates the 'waiting area'. The chairs move around on the slippery tile floor, there are cats visible, including the many people, other dogs, and staff frequenting the area. Definitely a high-stress, overstimulating environment for any pet.

I could go on and on, about things that could be improved, and offer suggestions in addition to my criticisms. But I'll save you, and cut to the chase: treat your animals kindly, reprimand them firmly and consistently, keep them vaccinated, wormed, protected against fleas & ticks, and above all, take your business elsewhere.

I was told all I had to do was get there by 8 to be put in the queue to get vaccinations, as they were only taking 15 people each day. However, they somehow got all of their slots filled even though there were only 10-15 cars in the parking lot. I waited 40 minutes for nothing. Packed up my kittens for nothing. They need a better system. I m so angry and disappointed.

Awful customer service. I ve called and left messages 3 times with no call back. I ve brought 2 cats here previously. I got tired of never being called back so I took my business elsewhere.

sounds like everyone has met the mean old bag working behind the counter.Rude is too nice a word for this bag of bones. The truth is the humane society is a scam. They have no intention of finding good homes for pets. They are too busy lining their pockets with donations instead of helping animals. They are much better places to adopt from and donate to.Unless you like awful service and zero help adopting

They may be nice people but they certainly don't know how to run a business. I called on Monday and asked about getting a wellness check on my new puppy. I said I did not need vaccinations I just wanted a vet to check him out. They said there were no just walk in. I changed my job for today. I came out here early. I was told that they could not see him except to do vaccinations. Which I do not need!
Again, nice people but inept! The only good thing about them I can say is that they did refer me to Coronado Animal Clinic which is close by and excellent!

Very disappointing service. I called today after finding an emaciated flea-ridden kitten in the 100 degree heat in the parking lot of my apartment complex. I inquired if they had any space here for it. Instead of being politely told no, the woman on the phone was unnecessarily rude and extremely unhelpful when I asked where she recommended I try next. From reading other comments here, I see that I'm not the only person who has experienced this problem. I feel terrible for the animals in this shelter, as the poor customer service skills of the people running the shelter will drive prospective adopters away.

I live 2 minutes away from this place calling them is a waste of time. The phone rings and rings but you never get to talk to a person. Showing up to the place is useless too. The doors are locked and there s nobody around to answer questions. I went several times since August to get my cat vaccinated I was told it was walk in clinic. Showed up the next day and due to COVID they were not doing vaccines because they were short staffed until further notice. I had to go to MO to get my cat taken care of. The front desk staff is terrible. They tell you to go online and the website tells you to call or email. Don t even get me started about them answering emails. I sent one on August and I m still waiting for an answer.

Wonderful veterinary care for your pets at reasonable prices. We are frequent customers as we have a kitty that seems to get sick often. The vets are always there ready, willing and able to help.

I called to ask a couple of questions and hopefully get some resources. I was assuming (incorrectly) that the the humane society would be a helpful place to call. The woman who answered wasn t very friendly or helpful. Customer service training would be beneficial.

Horrible..... They require vaccines, and by that I mean they will do your pets vaccines without your consent! I was incredibly disappointed considering the risks that come with it (seriously look it up!!) and the fact I had already paid for a titers test! I can t believe they pumped my pet full of poison. I do not recommend using any of their services and I personally will NEVER consider this place again....

This place sucks now. You can only have your pet seen by appt only. Okay, I understand that but then they claim to have same day emergency appts available. My pup has an ear infection I have called EVERY morning like I was told by them to do. It's been 4 days now and they can't get him in. I work nights and have to set my alarm to be up to call at 8AM and still NO appt. Do yourself and your pet a favor and go to a vet's office. I called WELBORN ANIMAL CLINIC. They are able to see him today. I'm not wasting my time with HS anymore. This place needs better management. And definitely a system that works for everyone! Too bad I have been taking my pets there since they were down on 4th st. But not anymore.

Horrible experience. The new rules are restrictive to adopters but apparently not for the workers inside! None of them were wearing masks let alone social distancing. For a medical environment it's completely embarrassing. Completely unprofessional management. Adopters beware!

They have done a wonderful job with my cats for me and have been very kind and caring and helpful in every way every single time I have needed help. Every single person I have met there is WONDERFUL and genuinely cares about our animals as their own. We are blessed to have them here.

In August I lost my dog of nine years. I was incredibly upset as I love my pets dearly. In September I dropped by a few shelters to view pets with no intent to adopt unless I found exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an upbeat, energetic, playful LARGE dog. When I went to view dogs in the shelter, I spotted a freckly border/aussie mix that was being held by the shelter until she could be transported to a no kill shelter in California. They didn't have space for her on site but had work diligently to find a safe place for her. I was instantly in love with her and asked to see her. They worked with me to view her and they made sure that I knew what I was getting in to before allowing me to take her home. They educated me on all the things that I already knew, but that many people wouldn't know about a high energy breed. They wanted to make sure I was a good fit for the dog and that the dog was a good fit for me. River came home with me a few days later. She is exactly what I was looking for and we have had six incredible months of learning together. My adoption experience was fantastic thanks to educated volunteers and staff. I LOVE that they don't send any dog home with random people but that they educate people and seek to find a home that will indeed be a forever home based on a person or families situation and experience. This may come across harsh to some people, but truly it shows how deeply they care for their animals. Additionally, Christine, who heads up the adoptions, was fantastic and worked hard to make my experience fantastic.

The staff at The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is outstanding! They are always so helpful, polite and cheerful. Special thanks to Peggy for going above and beyond for me and Teddy today! Another thanks to the entire staff for being so dang awesome every time I visit!!!

We took our cat for cremation here and they made a bunch of excuses in not calling us when the paw print was finished. Accordingly, their adoption process is not conducive to the end goal. We came ready to look at cats and nobody wanted to help us and the cat adoption lady was rude about our inquiry. They really need to reconsider their process to be more efficient and in-line with their mission.

My best friend and family member Bo a 9 yr old chocolate lab needed some special help with a tumor on his shoulder. The people at the humane society were more than helpful and caring. They saved my dogs life and saved my family losing someone very special to us. If I ever have the luxury of having too much money I will gladly donate to the humane society. Thank you so much for helping us. 5 million stars!!!

I have taken 2 dogs and 2 cats in for spayed and neutering. Awesome staff and care. Today I thought my 16 yrs old kitty was almost dead. My daughter and I took him in. Dr. Johnson and all the staff was caring, compansionate and understanding of Mr. 2Paws condition and my stress. Within an hour after blood work and oxygen I was taking him home feeling much better. I love this place and strongly recommend them for your family as well. Thank you for all you do.

This place looses everyone s appointments, tells them it s their fault. And reschedules one only for them to tell you the same thing a month later. And they act like there is nothing they can do, nothing except lie and disappoint people.

Got my bunny spayed here. I was super nervous because bunnies require special care. But they know what they're doing! She's recovered now and back to her grumpy old self. Everything went very smoothly. Great work they're doing here! I would not have been able to afford it otherwise.

They are without a doubt the nicest veterinarian's and compassionate staff . I was unable to afford to have my dog treated after he was attacked by bees and turned out is allergic to bees and nobody else would see him . They waved all fees and even discounted price for the medicine he needed . All together it was only $24 ! They truly care

Apparently this shelter is in the habit of adopting out diseased and dying animals. Whether they do so knowingly or they simply choose not to run critical tests on animals is unclear to me. I do know, however, that they blame their irresponsibility on a 'lack of donations', a poor excuse for animal cruelty and the traumatization of families adopting animals that will die shortly thereafter.

I adopted my dog from a local animal shelter and he tested positive for heart worms. The animal shelter uses KC humane society to treat their animals who have heart worms (they pay for it) and I ve called the humane society over a dozen times to schedule an appointment but they never return my calls!! It s expensive or else I d go somewhere else!!!!

Please for those reading this understand a few things. You can't please all of the people all of the time, also many of the people who work there are volunteers and some of them work 40 hours a week without getting paid a penny. This is a nonprofit animal saving facility that is managed by some incredible people. There aren't enough kind words to extend to them all. These men and women work tirelessly to provide some of the best animal health services in Kansas City. No one is ever perfect; however it doesn't mean they don't try their very best. Maybe the lady who seemed bitter had to put down an animal that day and was upset, she's a human being with feelings and is just like all of us. This place works to find every animal a good home and gives classes on pet management for free. They also assist those who aren't financially able with food and other pet meds at no to low costs. Please understand that they are 100% nonprofit, they need help from others and they get so much from the community it's amazing that they keep going strong. They even have a dog that's been there for 10 years who no one wanted and they have raised him and kept him safe and well and loved, they have a cat free range enclosure to help keep that cats happy, they have large outdoor areas for dogs who need the space. I'm not even from the state of Kansas and i donate once a month to help not only them, but also the surrounding community who already gives so much. I respect the people who give and giving back is just based on respect for what this facility does day in and day out. Please give them the benefit of the doubt, and don't jump to conclusions. No one is ever perfect, this place is a safe haven for dogs and cats and they care and love those animals without fail.

God bless them all, and thank you for your love and care to these homeless loving pets.

I had to bring my son in for a emergent appt. he stopped walking, eating and drinking overnight. The Humane Society got us in right away. The doctor came in ASAP and began her exam. She determined right away he needed a X-ray. I received pretty bad news and unfortunately he had to be euthanized . The vet assistant and veterinarian were very kind and compassionate. They let my mother-in-law have as much time as we needed after. I m very appreciative for them all.

I have used their Vet services for over 12 years. They are caring and great. I could not afford to care for my animals without their help and low cost fees on Vet care. Yes, at times you may wait longer than you would like, but worth the wait. Not a secret they are good and affordable, so sometimes they are busy. I would fully recommend, and want to ask for full support of this establishment and their services. Donate if you can.

We picked up our dog from here 10.5 years ago. She's still doing really well. I remember the day we picked her up - the staff there was great and very, very kind and loving to my boys and our new family member.

We adopted Binx after our cat of 18 years passed. He was very tinykitty and had a upper respiratory infection. He wasn't getting better so they asked us to bring him in. Our little Chunky Monkey had something in his eye, so they cleaned it out. Gave us medicine for upper respiratory infection. Two days later they called and said he had parasitic mite causing diarrhea, gave us medicine for that all at no cost. He is a wild beast at times and than he will be the most lovable kitty in the world.. He also marched in our house a told the cat and dog he was the boss now.. Thank you for our kitty he made us young again...

Christine Blank, dog adoptions coordinator, at the Humane Society has been awesome to work with. She has been very responsive and willing to answer any questions we have on the dog we are adopting. Everyone there seemed very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.

Sadly I'm changing the review for this place. They were fine when I first went about a year ago but now its to the point where they make you play lottery on if they'll answer calls (which thanks to the automated system they don't have to now), if they call back, and if you can even get an appointment. They apparently no longer do walk ins but still had me call every day to see if I could get my cat seen and had no trouble turning away my cat who's fur was literally falling out and had a painful rash everywhere. Its sad to see "Humane Society" become an inhumane place to be. Just go to Coronado Animal Hospital or Welborne. Save yourself the grief.

I have been taking my animals here for their shots and routine care for many many years, they are very affordable but you don't sacrifice quality for the lower prices, they do so much good in the community as well. LOVE the Humane Society!

About 12 years ago we had picked out a small dachshund to adopt while living in an apartment. We were all ready to take him home and had even purchased a dish and bed, when they called to say we could not have him because we did not have a fenced in backyard. A year later we found out another couple in our same apartment complex did adopt that dog. We could not figure out why the humane society lied to us like that and so we haven t been back. Meanwhile we ve long since moved to a house with a fenced in backyard for the three dogs we have bought or rescued elsewhere. They ve had fantastic lives, whereas I heard a rumor about our original dog having to be put down back in 2008 because the owners let him roam all over the apartment complex and he bit a child.
Seemed like a nice agency, but weird.

Disappointed! Adopted a cat with a watery eye and they cleared it with their "vet check", took her to my vet and she clearly had eye conjuntivitis, I also paid the full $75 and they didnt mentioned they were having a $25 adoption drive in 2 days and then my cat developed Feline Infectious Peritonitis which is fatal and caused by a mutation in the kronovirus which is common in cats that come from shelters. 77 days of falling in love and then having my heart broken

Just adopted a cat from this shelter and the process went very smoothly. The cat ended up having a slight cold after a few days (not uncommon for shelter cats as far as I understand) and after contacting the shelter they provided the appropriate medication free of charge. All of the employees are very nice and you can tell they truly care about the animals.

We went there to look at a dog we were interested in adopting. The dog they brought out was actually VICIOUS. He tried to attack my boyfriend and almost bit him in the face! I cannot believe that they would have an animal like that up for adoption! They need to take a good hard look at what types of animals they are allowing people to interact with. If he would have gotten bitten it would have been a really bad situation. He is very knowledgeable about animals and dogs especially and knows how to interact with new dogs, it was not caused by him coming at the dog in an inappropriate way. I do not recommend going here!

There is absolutely _NO_ excuse for RUDENESS! One rude person can spoil it for all concerned...especially the animals.

If you have the need for any more than spay/neutering and/or yearly vaccines this is definitely NOT the place to take your beloved pet or even a rescue that needs any type of specialty attention at all as this is "beyond the scope" of what the H.S.G.K.C. offers. So don't waste your time, money or the aggravation of putting up with rudeness of some of those who work there. And that goes all the way from volunteers up the line to the Drs.!!!

There simply is _NO_ excuse for rudeness!

Affordable prices and convenient walk-in hours. However, it was highly unsatisfying having to wait 4 hours to be helped when I showed up at 7:30am. It was extremely upsetting that the vet told me they took long with my puppy because they passed her around among the staff members during the COVID pandemic. It was highly unprofessional and disrespectful to do that without my consent or supervision. It was not a good experience at all.

Our neighbor found a 4 week old kitten in her garage. Not knowing what to do with it, and knowing we were cat people, she asked us to help the baby. We took the baby to the Humane society, and while they couldn't take the baby due to overcrowding, they were so helpful in helping us learn how to care for this tiny baby. We've never cared for a cat this small, and they gave us amazing advice. Thank you for helping us to save his little life.

This place DOES NOT care about pets. My dog got loose and someone found her, took her to humane society and they refused to hold her till I could pick her up. Instead they let the lady leave with her without getting ANY information from her and they have always been her care giver for spay, shots, and dr visits. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR ANIMALS because you will loose your family member like me!

I always have a good experi6. But I went today. They were trying to get a scared boxer on the scale. The boxer pooped and peed on the floor. This lady that worked there bad mouthed the owner talking about "it's one thing to be scared, its another to not have a chance to go to the bathroom". And then later she said "ppl are so stupid"

These are wonderful dedicated people seeing some of the worse animal abuse you can imagine. I have loved my fosters from them and especially my "foster failures". I've fostered a Blind and deaf Husky ( a love,) a three legged Pyrennes (the best gentle gian,t ever) and recently a Pyrennes who had been shot in the face (she was so kind and sweet, now in a forever home). They work tirlessly to make sure their dogs find their right home.Work with them if youre into fostering, or looking to find your next Best Friend!

I urge you to not adopt from the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, this is our story.
1. On December 1st, 2018 my family was interviewed for the adoption of two kittens. In the interview one of the kittens would not stand erect we were told he was just shy. They did not disclose that this kitten was indeed injured.
2. We were surprised to hear that we could take the kittens the same day. Sara told us that pets are usually are not placed the same day as the interview, but one of the perks of being the boss was that she could bypass this guideline. Because this guideline was bypassed we were rushed through the adoption process and did not discover the injury until later.
3. At the end of December, we contacted the Humane Society and told them that we no longer believed that the kitten was just shy, as we were told. At this point, they apologized and set up a veterinary appointment to evaluate the kitten free of charge.
4. During this appointment, we learned that the kitten had a leg injury that was documented on his intake form when he arrived at the Human Society. The x-rays revealed that his knee cap had slipped off to one side of his knee. They recommended pain relievers and set an appointment for us at Blue Pearl.
5. This appointment with Blue Pearl was to review the options of how to help this kitten, and turned out to be a sales pitch geared at getting me to pay around $4000 for reconstructive surgery. I suspect the Human Society gets kickbacks for these referrals that are designed to look like legitimate medical appointments. This felt very much like the business office of a car dealership.
6. After our visit to Blue Pearl, we contacted the Human Society and asked what the plan was to move forward helping this kitten? I was completely naive and really thought that they would continue with the same helpful tone and was shocked to hear the following. "I apologize, but we will not be able to help. I understand that this is not what you are wanting to hear from us. I know that you all love him very much . The latter part of this quote implies that they understand that this kitten is a part of our family now. And you would think that the most humane thing to do is to leave him with his new family.
7. I contacted them back imploring them to help and providing a few options. Their best and option was to refund our money and request that the cats be returned to them. Mind you that I explicitly told them that this was the least desirable option and only sought an equitable resolution.
So that's our story. Please don't trust these shysters. The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City withheld the information about the leg condition, that we later found out was on the medical intake form. This relevant fact should have been discussed with us and would have dissuaded us from the adoption. We believe that facts support the conclusion that we were intentionally misled. All we ever wanted was care for this kitten that we love and for him to stay with us. That is the most humane thing! Obviously we will not be returning these cats to these heartless people. We will keep them and spread the word about what the have done to us and I suspect other families.
