In August I lost my dog of nine years. I was incredibly upset as I love my pets dearly. In September I dropped by a few shelters to view pets with no intent to adopt unless I found exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an upbeat, energetic, playful LARGE dog. When I went to view dogs in the shelter, I spotted a freckly border/aussie mix that was being held by the shelter until she could be transported to a no kill shelter in California. They didn't have space for her on site but had work diligently to find a safe place for her. I was instantly in love with her and asked to see her. They worked with me to view her and they made sure that I knew what I was getting in to before allowing me to take her home. They educated me on all the things that I already knew, but that many people wouldn't know about a high energy breed. They wanted to make sure I was a good fit for the dog and that the dog was a good fit for me. River came home with me a few days later. She is exactly what I was looking for and we have had six incredible months of learning together. My adoption experience was fantastic thanks to educated volunteers and staff. I LOVE that they don't send any dog home with random people but that they educate people and seek to find a home that will indeed be a forever home based on a person or families situation and experience. This may come across harsh to some people, but truly it shows how deeply they care for their animals. Additionally, Christine, who heads up the adoptions, was fantastic and worked hard to make my experience fantastic.
