Had the pulled pork sandwich, which I think was the special for the day and not on the regular menu. It was awesome along with the staff.

Place is super convenient to any of the places you rent tubes for going down the river. Literally right around the corner.

We unfortunately went for midweek lunch and will need to come back for dinner/weekend since the outdoor setup looks amazing.

The gristmill is my favorite restaurant of all time. The chicken fried chicken and homemade gravy is better than your grandmas country cooking. The staff is very friendly and helpful in making recommendations. You seriously can't go wrong here. Also this restaurant is huge, and has great views of the river. Gruene is my happy place. The gristmill is just one of the perks.

Large, I mean large portions. Great tasting food. The. Best.
Chips. I've. Ever. Had. And a wonderful atmosphere. I got a little dizzy because the fire and the people took away some of the air, but there are several rooms to sit in.

OK food, just paying for the view and to feel good for saying you went. Basic burger and fries, soda 17 bucks easy.

The Gristmill is a must when visiting Gruene. The atmosphere is quintessential Texas. The food is delicious. We recently went with a large group a friends late in the evening near closing time and were seated within ten minutes. Jordan, our waiter was spot on. Our drinks were always full and he took care of every request we had. I had the Acapulco chicken, a grilled chicken breast with warm pico de gallo and sour cream on top. I'm not much of a tomato fan but this was some of the best pico I've tasted. It complemented the chicken quite well. Be sure to try the onion rings as an appetizer or for a meal for that matter. They are the size of doughnuts and incredibly tasty. The size of the side dishes are very generous. I couldn't finish the cole slaw (which was fantastic) that came with my chicken. Overall, a great restaurant in a quaint Texas setting that you won't regret!

My favorite restaurant in all of Texas! I love the food but mostly I really love the atmosphere. There are huge tall shade trees outside every window and the whole place has a very old lodgey feel.

The rating is for the issue we had waiting for our table. We were told that we could NOT wait in the vast area with open tables because of the rules, but then the manager started letting people into the waiting area while we stood there, so I was a little upset, especially because the wait was about 40 minutes. Food was good and our server was wonderful. I don't love fried food, so not sure if we will go back and wait so I can eat a salad and my family could eat hamburgers, as we could get those almost anywhere else.

Terrible experience. They switched our servers on us about 3 times, food took an hour and a half. The servers were so rude to us and we don t know why. Since the second we sat down, they treated us poorly. They refused to serve us a beer and told us we were cut off. WE ORDERED ONE DRINK. Do not recommend this place, id rather go to a restaurant with excellent service & where we are actually treated with respect.

The food is okay. It's not the best food, just on par. The atmosphere is amazing. The spinach dip is awesome, if you like spinach dip. Definitely worth a visit for the atmosphere. The onion rings also are crazy big.

Went to The Gristmill for our anniversary. Checked in with a party of two today, and was told the wait was 25 minutes. After checking to see where we were at in queue at the hour mark, we were told 10 minutes. A half hour later, we left.

Went to Montana Mike's. Got steaks drinks and appetizers.

Great food and atmosphere, but this place is really popular so you should be prepared to wait. We went at 2:30 to "avoid the crowds" during Spring Break and left 2 hours later with 45 minutes waiting for a table and much the same waiting on the kitchen to get the food out to us. However, all of us enjoyed the sausage, chicken strips, burger, and fries.

Environment wise, I'd give this place 5 stars. The place is amazing. You walk up to an outdoor seating area with a bar that's open for you as you wait for table. Even the wait system is unique. They ask for your first name and first initial, then write it on a giant chalkboard with your party size and table number when your table is ready. You are invited to enjoy the lovely weather and live music while you wait for your table. It's quite very inviting.

Service, yeah even the service we got here was 5 stars. See there was a mix up and the table that was assigned to us was already sat. So when the hostess walked us to the table she had us stand to one side while she then asked a manager where to put us next. This created our server to be triple sat. Then they proceeded to sit yet another table in her section right after us, literally one minute after us. Without skipping a beat she took charge and handled all four tables like a champ! Brought us everything we and the other tables needed.

What I wasn't pleased with was that our meal came out about 5 minutes after everyone else's. We were the last of all the food, even though we were the easiest meals (I looked, I used to be a server I know how timing works). The other thing is the condition of my food. I ordered a burger and it came out with a soggy bottom bun. The quesadilla my kid got was a block cheese with a little bit of tortilla. For the amount they charge for the burger the quality wasn't there. The chicken fried chicken was a bit dry. The plate was hot like it'd been left in the window for while. It's just little things that perhaps need to not be forgotten in the big picture. It's a great place and tiny details would really ruin the reputation if left unnoticed. Just general feedback. 2.5 stars for the food this go around.

If it weren't for those little things I would have given this place a higher rating.

Don't believe the hype! Restaurant grounds are nice and wait staff was prompt and nice. Tables were leaning and seats rocking. (Not that I expect much as far as comfort for an outdoor picnic table style seating) but the food was not good at all. The Ribeye and Filet came out very rare when ordered med rare. The beef literally had no flavor on either cut. The bacon wrapped on the Filet was raw as well. The potato fries things were soggy and they put lemon slices on everything. I give the food a zero!

Came here for German food because Google recommended it, but it's not German food.
They have a "beer garden", but no beer on tap.
Ordered chicken fried steak (closest thing to a schnitzel), and it only came with ONE side....first time in 40 years I'd ever seen that.
Oh, and you can barely see the river from the venue.

Service was excellent. I enjoyed my Birthday dinner. Pictured is the dessert for my birthday. The food especially the potatoes were delicious. Don't forget to try the donut size onion rings.

Kaitlyn was our server and she went out of her way to make sure we had everything.
