Great food and greater views. Beautiful location and surroundings. The "Country Club" and their homemade chips were absolutely great, not to mention friendly staff. A great place to eat when you're not shopping or listening to live music over at Gruene Hall.

Wonderful American food in a beautiful setting. In the Historic Gruene district, this is a great place to have a great meal. We started with the Texas Torpedo's, just the right balance of hot and cheesy!! In our group we had the Catfish, which was perfectly done, the Ribeye steak, which was cooked perfectly, the Chicken Sandwhich, which was huge, and the Trout. We found it funny that we had to come all the way to Texas to get Idaho Trout but was very proud that Idaho represents!! Reasonably priced! The place was super busy but still got a table in 20 minutes. They do not take reservations but have misters in the outside seating area where you can have a drink under the live oak while you wait. I wish I had room for desert as I am sure it would have been delicious. Would highly recommend!!

Ate there with 10 people on Sunday evening. The setting was nice. The service was lacking, waitress kept disappearing. The food was average at best. The hamburger was dry. Kids grilled cheese was mostly bread. The fries were under cooked. The onion rings were good.

Waitress was good. The food was not. Wilted lettuce on salads, dry chicken breast in salads. One person in our party didn't even finish half of his chopped steak and mashed potatoes. Others didn't finish their meals either.

The building is beautiful! This alone makes it worth going. The drink and food menu covered anything you might be craving when you walk through the doors. There was no wait when I went in and the staff was very attentive.

Food was excellent, waitstaff was amazing. Our first seating area was a bit in the sun and they noticed us trying to get the umbrella adjusted for daughter who is fighting brain cancer. They told us not to worry and found us a another table inside thank you all so much.

Wonderful experience. Food and service were both great and the views were priceless. Very open concept that means any seat is a good seat. Worth the visit and drive to see and experience.

Lovely views of the river from their ample patio seating. This is a fun place to eat and check out the historic building. The food isn't amazing, but ambiance makes it a good place to stop in, especially with out of town guests.

Delicious food at fair prices! We visited and dined during the peak of summer so we were hot as heck! Misters and fans couldn't make us comfortable so I highly recommend going anytime other then the peak of summer.

The scenery, inside or out, is gorgeous! 50/50 on the wait staff. I've had excellent service and service that left me wanting. The food is pretty great, but their drinks are a bit over-priced.

Went along with the 1hr 45min wait, but my wife had to send back her steak 3 times twice for being way under cooked and once for being burned. Looked as if they droped it in a deep frier. WONT COME BACK AND WILL SPREED THIS INFO

Dont sit inside when it's hot! Even with the fans on I could not eat. It was stifling!! The waitress was wonderful, funny and friendly....sitting outside would have made a huge difference! The wait time was 15 minutes.

The food has declined terribly since we first started coming to the Gristmill and the price increases do not warrant the small portions or the quality. We wont be back it's just not the same place it used to be.

A great experience. The food is good, the atmosphere even better. On a nice day dining outside on the massive back deck overlooking the river is relaxing and very satisfying. If you are in the area don't miss this one.

The area here is very cool with the old town feel. It didn't take us long to get to our seats even though they seemed pretty busy. You had to watch a large chalk board and when our name was up they came and got us. The waitress was ok. We all ordered our salads and when they came out I never got mine. I asked if I was getting mine and she argued with me that I never ordered it. I finally got my salad after everyone finished theirs. When the main meal came out everyone got theirs and suprise surprise ... I never received mine. Again mine came out after everyone else was done eating. I had the ribs which were good. Probably would not come back.

Stopped here for dinner as recommended by a friend. We were seated straight away with a table overlooking the river. Ordered the onion rings as a starter which were huge but were some of the best I've ever had, then shared the tbone steak which was cooked well and finished off with German chocolate cake that was very light and chocolatey. Our waitress Sarah was great and attentive.

Great food and friendly attentive staff. Prices are fair. The onion rings are some of the best I have had. My biggest concern with this place wasn't the restaurant, but the parking. This place sits in a tourist area and parking is a mess. Unless you are able to park in front of the restaurant be ready to walk. Drop those with mobility problems off then park. When the weather permits eat out on the patio. Great views of the river.

A prime location for a restaurant that falls short on food quality and customer service. Waitress was pushy, not very good at describing the "featured special" (Baby back ribs), or at taking our orders. The ribs were not listed on the menu, so I asked what comes with the ribs. She said salad and fries. I asked her if there were other choices. She rolled her eyes and sighed. I said, "Just give me the salad and fries". The fries were sliced potatoes, about 1/8" thick. They were tough and cold. My wife ordered chicken fried chicken and onion rings (instead of fries or mashed potatoes). She said the oil they used to cook the chicken and the onion rings must have been going rancid or was past due for being changed. She said she belched up the bad taste of that oil the rest of the day and all night.

NOT RECOMMENDED....... A wonderful location for a restaurant.... BUT NOT THIS ONE!

The trout and the bacon wrapped fillet are both really gd. The service is awesome. The server Melissa was awesome. UPDATE 11/01/18 The food was really good except I wouldn't recommend potato wedges / fries whatever they call them, we both order as 1 of our sides and we both only ate part of 1 wedge. On a plus note the rest of the meals was good and our waitress Camerian despite us choosing to sit outside was went above and beyond to make sure she checked on us & be sure we had everything we needed.
