Came here for Dinner on the 26th from out of town. The ambiance of this place is nice, it is a very cute outdoorsy type restaurant. I expected a fabulous meal from reading all of the reviews and seeing the outside of this place. Wait time was not bad to be seated, but once we were seated (too close for comfort to another couple I might add) the fun began. Our waitress was very nice and eager to help I'll give her that, but we did wait 10 minuted for a coke and a bottled beer. She came back and asked if we were ready to order and I had to remind her about the drinks. We ordered the spinach dip was a bit on the GARLIC side, but still really good. I ordered the NY strip, which was covered in gristle, I had to cut a big chunk off the sides and it was swimming in it's own blood, like they let it rest on the plate they served it on..The round cut potato's / chips/ /fries? ... im not sure where they were going with this but either make them crispy or not.. I was very confused and they had no seasoning on them at all. It just tasted like frialator grease....

Service was the worst I've ever experienced anywhere. It reminded me of a heard of cattle going through a turnstile to hear the "Ching!" of $ then you're on the list to get out the door.
Dirty tables, plates, flatware and condiment holders?!
The place wasn't like this a few years ago. The food WAS great, but now honestly, I can't remember what it tasted like. Let those actions speak.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. The wait staff is always very attentive and the views when sitting out on the patio can't be beat. Even though wait times can get pretty long during peak hours, it's worth the wait. If you are from out of town, this is definitely a place you need to visit.

HUGE place! Well managed in this current environment. Inside and outside seating with heaters. Staff needs to learn how to properly wear masks...BRIDGE of nose, not tip or upper lip. Food was good but not great. Would try again, but may not change rating

Busy, but staff was personable and food is pretty good. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Bit of history that makes it unique and the riverside location is picture friendly. When busy, be prepared to wait a bit.

Its well presented menu is delicious, the place is very original and in the evening very romantic and very Texan.
You have to be patient if you don't have a reservation, however you have the option of being at the bar !! It has live country music and makes the wait very pleasant as well as fun

Unbelievable experience. Great food, prices, service and atmosphere. My new favorite restaurant. Royanna was our waitress. Outstanding!!!. It was cold that day. No problem fireplaces in most rooms. Cant wait to come back in the spring!! We live in Southern California. Well worth the short trip from San Antonio where we stayed for a few days.

Generally speaking, expect a long wait. They told us that it would be a 90 minute wait for a table for our party of 7 on a Saturday evening (maybe we weren't the only ones celebrating Father's day a week and a day in advance?). Their estimate was fairly accurate, but the wait wasn't bad. They have a nice outdoor area with big misting fans over plentiful seating and a outdoor bar nearby for refreshments while you wait. They also had a performer singing & strumming on a small stage next to the chalkboards that notify you when your table is ready. I never really have high hopes for the food here (it's all white and brown & I liken this place to The Oasis on Lake Travis - you mostly pay for "the ambiance"), and it being nearly 9 pm, I went with the Grilled Chicken Spinach Salad, asking for the bacon bits on the side and oil & vinegar dressing (rather than the creamy vinaigrette). Well, as you can expect, it didn't come as I asked, and I told the waitress, but rather than waiting any longer for a fixed plate I just condemned my soul by eating pork flesh and asked for a bowl of lemons to squeeze over the spinach & make it less dry (yeah, they put no dressing on the salad). Overall, it was was a tasty, nicely portioned salad with fresh ingredients. I then ordered the Hill Country Strawberry Shortcake - and it was as beautiful as it was delicious! The in-laws ordered German Chocolate Cake and my nephew ordered HD's Chocolate Supreme. I highly recommend saving room for dessert here! I think this is where Gristmill shines.

The cowboy bone in ribeye steak was literally crawling off my plate. The waiter didn't bring our food so I couldn't send it back. 10 minutes later he comes and asked how the food was. By then the steak was cold. I let him know. He asked if I wanted a new steak but we'd already waited 40 minutes for the food and my family would of all been finished. Also the couple next to us had sent their steak back twice. So didn't want that to happen. I just cut my losses. I don't recommend the steak. Also the service from the server was very poor. He only came to the table 3 times. So yeah no water refills.

Beautiful resturant with gorgeous views. It was a bit hot waiting for a table but they offer tea, shade and mist to cool off with. I will definitely return. Just not in the summer, even though it was definitely worth the wait. The food was excellent. I love southern food and this was nicely in my expectations. Service was excellent as well.

Group of 8 of us all loved the food, 45 min wait in 100 degrees heat and 1 block walk from parking lot was a bit of a turn off. Over all, glad I experienced it and would probably go back with cooler weather.

Very disappointed with the Chicken Fried Steak, not a tourist, I live in New Braunfels. A great tasting Chicken Fried Steak will take longer than 20 minutes to cook once you have been seated. Tasted more like a frozen food dinner taken straight out of box than something which is cooked when you order it.

The staff is friendly, the building is full of character and rich history. It was warm inside by the fire on this windy day. The food was good and big! Make sure you are hungry when you go to this restaurant because baby everything in Texas is big lol, even the food!! We had such a wonderful experience and the restroom was clean.

We arrived at an hour of few customers, they sat us down in an area outside in full sun, and we asked for a table with a little shade, which also had a nice view, and if they sat us there, but when we had 25 minutes waiting who attended us we realized that the people around us who had arrived after us already had at least their drinks ... my husband asked to speak to the manager who came quickly and looked for who would attend us ..... it was obvious it bothers them that one decides where to sit .... the food was very good and the drinks excellent

This is the 3rd time we have been in the area and always have to make sure we go to the Gristmill and have their chicken fried steak. It is by far the best we have ever eaten anywhere.
