I was expecting way better food and service. The steak I ordered was almost tasteless. The wait to be seated was over an hour. We were finally seated in the back of the restaurant where it was wide open walls and windows. Bugs were attracted to the light and were flying in and around our food. The server went into the men's room in front of me and left without washing his hands. Bet he didn't realize I was watching. I was. Our food items came out separately and some were cold and seemed to have been sitting on the counter. I would rather go to Texas Roadhouse before this place any day.

Place was super cool. I visited on a slow night but hear it gets crazy busy. The food was good (ribs) and the atmosphere reminded me of a massive treehouse.

Love this place. Great salsa Verde. Great CFS. Great atmosphere. Live music when you wait.... Part of what makes Gruene amazing. We stop here whenever we are within 30 miles.

What a cool place!... If your in Gruene, TX you must stop here for a bite and sip. Right off the river and a very relaxing and unique spot.

Kids and adults will enjoy the scenery and settings. This inside is very nostalgic to the pioneers of the old west. While cowboys would feel at home, it is not specifically limited to country and western, but rather the spirit of the settlers who helped to transform the old west to the modern world we have! Traditional Texas Chicken Fried Steak, Queso Burgers, great appetizers like the jalapeno Texas Tornadoes, great mix of adult beverages, and non-alcoholic as well as great choices for Steaks and Seafood!!!!! There is nothing short in the food area, while all of this is set next to the Guadalupe River which can be seen below!!! Just wow!!!!

Tried as many things as I could and couldn't complain about any if it. The filet melts in your mouth and could've used a spoon to cut it!

There's something for everyone on the menu and daily specials. But, the atmosphere can be exceptional given its proximity to Gruene hall and the Guadalupe river

This restaurant is a must-do for anyone visiting Gruene! If you get there early enough, you could have a table that overlooks the river! This is a very popular place, so I would avoid going during typical dinner times. The food is always great and I love the outdoor atmosphere.

Went to have lunch with a brother I have not seen in over two years. Went to the hostess and checked in. She said 15 to 20 minutes for just the two of us. After 40 minutes I went to the hostess and she sent me to the front hostess. I have not received a confirmation text of my reservation. She checked and confirmed that I did been 40 minutes. I asked her how long it would take and she said probably another 15 to 20 minutes. We left and I will never go back. It was a 40 minute drive to get to this restaurant.

Our server Alli was excellent and very attentive. The food was excellent. My wife and I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious and fork tender. Well worth the money.

I come here with the family every so often, best place to eat in Gruene imo. They can get pretty busy and the waits can be long, but they have live music on the busy days and there's a bar you can order from before you're seated.

Our order took too long to get to our table so we ended up leaving and going somewhere else besides that its beautiful but slightly expensive with nice views. Side note employees need new shoes.

I don't know why it took me so long to find out about this place. What a find! Good food. Good service. AMAZING location. Cool waiting area. A true MUST whenever in the area.

Love the atmosphere of this place . The food is great . The service is also excellent. Only 4 stars because of the wait . When we arrived the little gal said an hour and 10 minute wait , then quickly changed that to an hour and 30 minute wait . Actual wait time was 2 hours ......

Going to Gristmill is always a fun place to go. It is a great place to take the family. There is something for everyone to do. The restaurant is awesome. If you go, sit outside by the river.

Regardless of how busy, always fantastic service and seating. Food is always fresh!!!
The management of this place runs a team effort. All employees work fast and help each other. Good job by all!

We have been here a few times before and it is always a great experience and tasty food. We love the look and feel of the place and it adds greatly to the experience.

Service was great people ,families, friends having fun

My family and I meet here for lunch since they live in Austin and I live in San Antonio. The patio is beautifully shaded by the trees and the ceiling fans outdoors help to keep everyone cool. The service is great, everyone is friendly and we've never waited terribly long for our food. They have a wide variety of options for people trying to eat healthy and for those who aren't the area often has things going on too. We've come during music nights, flea markets, etc.

We had lunch here today, we ordered a half baby back ribs, and a fresh trout with asparagus, garlic bread, green beans as sides, the young gentleman recommended frozen sangria for drink, we loved everything, everthing! The baby back ribs were so tender and the BBQ sauce was rich yet not too heavy, the trout was fresh, asparagus were grilled to perfection, garlic breads were crispy and full of garlic flavor, and the frozen sangria was awesome! The service was excellent!

Good food, has a nice view of the Guadeloupe River, nice town, like stepping back in time.

If you are considering a place to eat while in Gruene look no futher. Great atmosphere, outdoor seating on the Guadalupe river. Food was excellant. Service was spot on. Can't wait to stop back in next time we are here.

Beautiful place with the location near the river and in such a historic place. This is second time been there since moved back to San Antonio and it is....well...not what it was. The prices do not match the quality of food and the way servers are now. I fear it is a tourist trap now. Disappointing but still worth getting their appetizers at least once while you explore the insides and the view. Other places to eat in Gruene though.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. There tends to be a lot of people who want to eat here but the waiting area has live music and there is a bar to order drinks while you wait. the food was ok, but I only ordered a salad so I can't speak for the entire menu.

We went for Mother's Day & naturally that was a bad idea. Too crowded. Wait was 1.45 hr. I had a mushroom spinach quesadilla which was EXCELLENT just eating so late & getting home late. Wait staff did a good job. Getting seated was a joke. We were told we had a table only to find out it had been taken not once but twice! It was a circus. We'll have to go back when not crowded.

Quite possibly the best hamburger I ever had. Nice atmosphere, quality food.

I LOVED**** the Gristmill - I have been eating here for over a decade...yet last night was the WORST experience I have ever had at (seriously)!
1. Undercooked chopped steak - we asked for well done and a WATERMELON color (this was also bad lighting as we were on the back patio, outside) is what they brought out to us TWICE. The 1st try - it was cold and the busier of the food even commented that it had been sitting a while!
2. Our $26.99 RIBEYE was also a let down - not cooked AT all like we wanted.

After comping the chopped steak (16.99) - the very relaxed young man whom told us that HE KNEW that our ground beef was undercooked both times - wow VERY nice of him - thanks for the $16.99 refund - food poisoning is something I cannot put a value on. It is TERRIBLE, painful and almost nothing a medical provider and do for you other than fluids. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE! I would had rather PAID and been able to leave there with a full belly and not food poisoning!

If we were handled in a better way - a $108.22 - $125.00 with tip is worth a professional and friendly talk with the customers along with showing that they actually cared about our TERRIBLE experience.

Jessica our wait staff was excellent. The view, the atmosphere and the food was delicious! A cool and crisp day outside so the heaters and the fireplace in our dining room was well received!

Went today 07/25/2020 around 2 pm and was told the wait would be 1 1/2 hrs so I sign up and wow in about half that time we were summoned and seated @ table 810/1 where Noah tended to us and what an experience. We were completely satisfied with everything. Many thanks to the staff.

This place was absolutely stunning! The service was great, the view was perfect.. Fell in LOVE!! I can't wait to go back.. :)

We had been to Gruene two times and wanted to eat at the Gristmill both times, but couldn't. We took my mother in law to Gruene today and we all decided we were gonna eat at the Gristmill. Not only were we sat quickly we had an amazing corner table outside with a lovely view of the river. Our waitress was so friendly and we didn't have to wait for a thing. She was also very informative. To top everything off our food was AMAZING!! I had sirloin my mother in law had the fried shrimp and my husband had the chopped steak. The salad dressings were unbelievable. We also loved the squash & zucchini and the flat cut fries. It is a little pricey, but WELL worth it. We will be back!

The food here is amazing and the atmosphere is awesome!! Great waitstaff make every visit here worth it. And try the onion rings..they re soooo good!!!

Too hot to enjoy food. Restaurant has no air conditioning. Kid were very uncomfortable inside restaurant. They would go to rest room to cool off. The restrooms inside the restaurant were the only areas with A/C. Would not visit again in summer.

This place is incredible. Make sure to sit outside if you can.

Awesome ambiance? Beautiful time of year in beginning of April. Food is delicious! Bronze catfish, chicken fried chicken, and much more. We are a family of 6 with 4 young kid from 13 to 8... We all enjoyed and the wait staff was great, especially Mike!

Food was pretty darn good! The only reason it isn't 5 stars for me is that they don't have any beer on tap.

Absolutely gorgeous restaurant, great well priced food. If you didn't get the onion rings, you didn't really go. They are simply the best onion rings I've ever had. Also the service was great and I can't overstate how beautiful the open air restaurant and Gruene town were.

Just great for touristy destination. Convenient to Gruene Hall. Dress for considerable wait in hot and uncomfortable picnic tables.

The food no longer justified the 1.5 hour wait. It was mediocre at best. The waitress was either high or drunk. One of the worse dinning experiences I have ever had.

Great experience! Traditionalist type of country environment. Food is phenomenal and the shops and boutiques that surround the restaurant are good stop and shops for a day out with friends and family!

Favorite spot to eat in Gruene! Always order the Turkey sandwich, and its always DE-LISHUS.
