This review is for the Grace Brasserie on the second floor of the Grace Hotel:

FOOD TYPE
Buffet

FOOD QUALITY
Four of us took advantage of a generous Scoopon Deal where, for $22 a head, we each got the full lunch buffet, with a single glass of wine or a cold drink. For the record, the usual price of the lunch buffet is $32 per person (I assume that s without drinks) or $22 per person without dessert (wonder how they enforce that: do they have security personnel going around checking that $22 diners are not having dessert?). While there isn t a huge selection of dishes to choose from, we were quite satisfied with what we got and all enjoyed it. You won t find tables groaning under the weight of massive offerings, nor a huge variety of food, but what there was, was fresh, tasty and wholesome and nicely laid out and presented. There were a few salads, including an interesting quinoa, a beetroot and a tofu salad; and warm, crusty rolls to kick things off with. For mains, there was a delicious Indian style beef, and a butter chicken, jasmine rice, spring rolls, roasted vegetables and a turkey and ham station. I pretty much tried everything and nothing really disappointed although if I had to choose one stand-out dish it would have to be the melt-in-your-mouth tender butter chicken, perfectly complemented by the fluffy jasmine rice. For desserts, they had a nice choice of fresh fruits, a cheese and biscuit tray inc my fav blue cheese, and a delicious cherry strudel. Again, not a lot to choose from, but enough to suit most tastes. We finished with coffee.

ATMOSPHERE
The dining room at the Grace Hotel is a large space with room for about 250 people. It s stylish, elegant and very comfortable; carpeted throughout with wooden tables and upholstered chairs. Lighting is dim, but there was enough sunlight coming in through the windows to keep the place reasonably bright and cheerful. There wasn t a huge turnout, I d say it was probably only about one third full, but for us that was perfect to enjoy a relaxed and laid back meal with our friends.

SERVICE
There s not too much for the wait staff to do here, apart from showing you to your table, bringing the drinks and clearing away the dirty dishes and bringing fresh cutlery. But it was all done efficiently and politely by a bevy of pretty Asian ladies, all neatly attired in smart black and blue uniforms.

COMFORT
You could not have asked for a more comfortable venue. Chairs were firm, the table was large enough to easily fit all the dishes and the drinks. The carpeted interior and sun streaming in, made it a warm, homely and cosy venue on a chilly winter s afternoon. Tables are well spaced, giving one plenty of room to spread out and ensuring easy conversation with no acoustics issues at all.

SUMMARY
We had a pleasant lunch buffet here and everything went off smoothly. Food was fresh and tasty with a nice , but small, selection of salads, entrees, soups, meat and Indian style chicken and beef, dessert and coffee. At $22 a head, including a drink, it represented excellent value for money. Service was friendly, polite and efficient. I was a bit disappointed though, that each diner only got one glass of wine (or one soft drink), which I felt was a bit stingy. At least two glasses of wine were needed to wash down all that lovely food. I was also a bit peeved when they shut up shop at precisely 2pm. The voucher did state that the hours were 12pm - 2pm; but it would have been nice to linger awhile over coffee, and cheese and bikkies. However, when staff are cleaning up the tables, vacuuming the carpets and setting up for the next buffet, you know that it s time to leave! And just a word about the magnificent Grace Building in which this hotel and the brasserie are housed. It s been lovingly restored to its former 1920s glory and is now one of Sydney s most impressive landmarks. It s worth it to come here just to see it, and soak up its elegant, old world charm and classy, stylish ambience.

Hotel outstanding, business ethics horrendous. What could have been a memorable stay turned out to be a disaster from the time of check in.
Room booked months in advance with early check in request. No mention of any fees for this. On confirming room 2 days prior and asking about early check in still no fee mentioned. Get there 11am, room happens to be ready, if you want to go up before 3pm that will be $45! Ahh no it won't, didn't pay that, appreciate you waiving that after much discussion on how no one advised of it at any point of all communication.
Then that night I see on my banking app on phone, $100 added to room fee and the 1.5%surcharge that is only applicable on credit card. I used a debit card so watch that, and when you pay the bill in full you still have the previous days card swipe sitting pending for them to grab after you have already paid the bill!
So you get charged twice for the room plus the $100 incidental bond (which no one has bothered to tell you about) and the 1.5% surcharge, adding up to about $800 for a $319 room. You are supposed to wear this until they release the first check in transaction with your bank and then it goes back in to your account! Needless to say that wasn't on for me.
Staff member I spoke to on the phone offered to send fax to bank to release this bond situation but not before being arrogant in her attitude about the whole situation. When I explained my enquiry she answered with 'just let me know when I can speak'. How am I able to explain my enquiry if I don't talk you idiot.
Hotel Grace in name only, not nature unfortunately.

Unbelievable service and professionalism. Makes anyone from any walk of life feel welcome to stay. Good pricing for the rooms, good value room service and best of all, clean fresh and luxurious. I wish the cheaper rooms had a bath but hey can't win them all. I'm sure if I had asked for a room with a bath they would have told me which rooms had them. It is close to Darling Harbour, close toThe Star, close to the shopping district and close to Hyde Park. Best hotel in the area of similar pricing.

Enjoyed a lovely weekend at The Grace. Very appropriate Welcome Pack of face masks, hand sanitizer, etc.! Breakfast was Covid-19 safe, with hot meals brought to the table. Loved the Art Deco features and also the corridor giving the history of the hotel. Art Deco features in public spaces and modern bedrooms are a perfect combination. We will return!

This is a great hotel and is in a really good location close to everything. The staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet was nice. Our room was spacious with a nice, big shower. My only complaint (and it's minor) is the light from the AC is quite bright. I like total darkness when I sleep so I ended up using the ironing board to block it. Maybe it can be dimmed but I couldn't find it. Other than that, can't fault it.

Three of us decided to take advantage of the entertainment voucher for 25% discount on our lunch at the Brasserie in level2. $22 without dessert ($32 with dessert) is a considerable amount so the discount across the 3 of us would have been a good reduction. However when we went to pay we were kindly reminded that it was not valid for lunch due to the conditions associated with the entertainment voucher. We asked about the reason and the waitress said the lunch was already heavily discounted and due to conditions on the voucher it was not available to be discounted further. Some of us were pressed for time so there was only so much we could do to persuade her for a further discount.

As for the food we had it was average quality and choice was limited. I could ve had a better lunch elsewhere for that price. Lesson learnt here is to ask to apply the voucher before we had lunch. The restaurants around the street level looked more appealing.

The accessibility is good and friendly, but all Australian hotels do not provide any disposable items except for shampoo and rinse body. I asked for a toothbrush, but I give it to you.
Water is also not provided, so it is recommended to buy it.

Poor service and treatment

The room we booked was Deluxe twin room for 4people but what we got was only two single bed for 2 people. for the first night, we complained but we slept in very squishy beds. The next day, after we complained again, we finally were treated with one more single bed in. The extra bed condition was very poor!!! And still not for 4people.
Moreover, the house keeping was not done at all!!!!! Which was all included in the price.
So, the bathroom was set up for two people only and we had to ask for more as the house keeping was not done at all.
we are very disappointed about the services and the manager only took $50off for the incorrect room!!! We spent our money and time there for the holidays and feel so bad at the end. Wasn t enjoyable at all due to the poor services. There s nothing that we can do now, but just rating honestly for others.

Back in April, my cousin and I visited Sydney for the first time and we booked a 2-night stay here. We opted out of room service, but everything in the room was already in fine order when we arrived, so we did not feel the need to waste resources after 1 night. The location itself is worth a stay!

Lovely and very comfortable hotel that is surprisingly affordable for its style and, no pun intended, grace. Comfortable, clean and while nothing will blow you away in the basic rooms we had a lovely stay.

So after booking The Grace Hotel as my first preference for my work trip, the site that I had booked it through told me that the room I was booking was the last room and it was no longer available. On the day I received two confirmations one from the other hotel I booked as my second preference and the second from The Grace Hotel. I called them up and explained to them my situation and palmed me off to the booking site. The booking site tried to talk and negotiate with them this error and they said that I had to cancel my booking for them to be able to do anything about it hours after booking in. I asked if it was better if I had friends stay in my hest and they said the only chance of a refund was to cancel the booking entirely. The manager sent me an email on monday saying that there would be no refunds. Then I was sent a survey to fill out regarding how my stay was. Disgraceful, in the lightest terms. Never coming here ever in the future and never recommending the place to anyone, they were a literal joke to deal with, especially regarding an issue that should have been pretty simple to resolve.

We liked this hotel the reception is beautiful with high ceilings and well adorned with flowers, the rooms are very well equipped and and the litter comfortable. It has a gym with hours from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. And an Italian restaurant on the same corner. It is very central.

I visited the Grace hotel to participate in some market research being conducted in some rooms on the second floor. What a beautiful building! Fantastic old Gothic architecture that has been well and conserved and incorporated into a lovely hotel. I haven't stayed at the hotel but it is high on my list of hotels to try in Sydney.

Nice decor. Shame about the staff. Sitting here in the foyer for four hours, waiting for my room to be ready (no mention of a 3pm check-in anywhere during the booking process). Wasnt offered a coffee whilst I wait. Just sit in the foyer and wait. For four hours.

Well kept old world Hotel. Attentive and helpful staff. Usual noisy air conditioning systems in the rooms. No worse than most hotels, but this is still annoying. Central location is close to everything you need and breakfast buffet has a great range including eggs/omelettes cooked to order and is reasonably priced.

This place has been fully jazzed up at the top. It doesn't make the building look great from the outside but from the inside it offers the most amazing views. Definitely on the pricey side but some of the cocktails and dishes are absolutely divine! I especially loved the prawns. Book in early and secure a table with a view to really make the most of this place!

An average hotel, considering their 4.5 star hotel rating. Breakfast bar was ok. Room was clean and tidy. Decent room size. TV and internet outage for 6 to 7 hours. Resolution and communication could be better. Internet speed was slow. Other similar hotels are better. Overall would not recommend unless you had no choice.
