This is a good place to take you're family or friends to hang out.
I ve been to St. Louis so many times and I finally went up in the arch. Make sure you give yourself at least 2 hours to get through the line, up the arch, and looking at the views. There are a lot of people there so you ll be waiting awhile, but it s worth it. If you re claustrophobic then don t go!! The pod you sit in is super small because they squeeze 5 people in there. Once you get to the top the views are absolutely amazing, but since there are so many people you have to navigate your way to the windows throughout.
The new museum and renovations is excellent. Well worth the trip. Going to the top of the arch is a unique experience that shouldn't be missed.
I absolutely love this place. They were doing construction when I went a few years back! I look forward to seeing how they did! Views are spectacular! Just a stunning view and lots of history
Fantastic place that incredibly is possible to visit up to the top from inside, whit a smart system of "trains & cabins". The view from the top is fantastic with its over 190 meters in altitude. Don't miss it!
Super friendly staff. There was a lot of construction when we were there but it still was cool to see and go up to the top.
Note: but your tickets before you go there. They are usually sold out.
A must-do in St Louis. It's an amazing structure worth the price to go up in. The museum is a great place to spend time while you wait for your elevator. Plenty of displays to look at and the bookstore offers a good time waster too. The elevators are quite small so squeezing 5 people in each one is tight. It's amazing how they designed the elevator to go up in the arch and slightly rotate to always keep you level. The view at the top of course is amazing. Out of the east windows you can see the Mississippi and Illinois, to the west of course you have an amazing view of downtown St Louis. Worth the money every time.
I loved the park and the trip to the top of the arch. The short film was very informative. The questions part was really fun.
Fun place for our whole family. We were surprised to find out it was a National Park, have your park pass for a discount, which is great for it's preservation and history of St Louis. There is a full museum in the bottom of the Arch with history of many different times. It goes from Louis and Clark, settling of St. Louis, Native American tribes, the building of the Arch and more. The ride up and back is a special trip. My 5 year was scared at first but loved it by the end.
A must see place at least once.. Absolutely beautiful park on both MO and IL side.
Its good experience. Must go once.
Museum is really nice and informative. Arch has very small windows up there but considering the entire work (maybe in 1960) done long back its an awesome engineering work.
This was such a cool experience in regards to the history of the Arch. However they let way too many people up in the top at one time, and sadly most people don't listen to the instructions... IE do not stop at the first four windows. Keep walking so everyone else can get off the stairs. They have such an opportunity to make this experience one of a kind, starting with less people.
Such a cool experience! The museum was very educational, and interesting for kids. Had alot of neat things to see. Would definitely go again, and would recommend everyone should go at least once!
On our way back from California headed to NY, we had to stop here. Such rich history of the Louisiana purchase and the Westward Expansion. Makes me want to read books about this time when we purchased this. Do some research and find amazing details as to the importance of this National Park Monument. Bring you Park pass for a discount on admission, $13.00 a ticket will be $10 for adults. The exhibits were closed for a grand reopening and expansion to take place just before the July 4th holiday. I m sure that information is amazing as the Arch. Take the Tram to the hop, great scenery and learn some history. Well worth the stop even if you for some reason hate history.
Amazing views and nice museum underneath. Worth every penny!
Enjoyed the museum underground! I definitely wouldn't recommend on going up to the top if you are claustrophobic. The ride up and down can be cramped, but not terrible. I had plenty of time to spend at the top looking out over the city. Beautiful views! Highly recommend!
This was an excellent experience and to go up in the arch is a must.
Love the new museum but the new entrance already looked dated and under done. Then, as you enter, it looks so white, industrial and sterile. Like something done 50 yrs ago that we really should think about updating. Bit of course we already did. Then, you step down to a lower level, nothing there, just wasted...white space. But, once you get to the actual museum, it became awesome.
Wow I didn't realise till I got there that there is a train that takes you up to the top.
Not for anyone who is claustrophobic
Very nice big open park. Don't forget to take a blanket to have a picnic.
We had a wonderful experience at our nations smallest National Park. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The museum area was very well organized and informative. Everyone from our 7yr old up to the grandparents liked it. The food court area was clean and had nice options. Even a gluten free chocolate chip cookie! The tour guide for our trip up the arch was great and we enjoyed the view. If you are claustrophobic in any way. This ride is not for you. Very cramped quarters but it is a short ride.
From Indiana to Kansas City, St. Louis is the perfect pit stop.
Loved the newly renovated museum! There were some hands-on activities for our grandkids. Suggest buying tickets online in advance for the tram to make sure you get to ride to the top. Amazing!
Great museum. Takes too long to get through it all to get to the top. Little windows . lots of people. It was ok. 4 stars for the view and the museum
Really exciting to take the tram to the top of the arch! Great views of St. Louis. Be sure to tour the old courthouse and learn of it's historic past!
A wonderful experience at the Gateway Arch. The museum is great. I really enjoyed learning about the importance of Saint Louis in the westward expansion. It is amazing how fast they built this beautiful structure with 1960s technology. A must see if you are in Saint Louis. Just make sure you go on a clear day!
We loved the new visit welcome center. I have not visited in over 40 years and was very pleased with the new and old visit.
This 600 highly artistic marvel is just an amazing sight to see. This Gateway symbolizes what anyone can do with a little effort in this beautiful country. The surrounding park is clean and safe. The toughest part about this location is parking but worth it.
Love visiting our local monument. Always good memories.
One of the MUST do items in the city. You have to at least go see it. Impressive to look at and fun to go up.
Very timely with arriving early and being able to go up with an earlier time slot due to limited amounts of visitors warly in the morning. Everyone was very friendly and the workers at the top even helped us pose for great picture opportunities. The lady working the fudge shop in the gift shop was very personable and made for a great experience as well.
We went here when I was 4, and I don't remember why, but we weren't able to go up. This last time we came as a family of 5, and it was a great experience. The view was awesome, and so was the fudge. (Note: fudge from the Alamo is slightly better. We travel a lot.)
Very impressive monument from every aspect. The history and design is very interesting, but the views from the top are also awe inspiring.
$13 to go up. $3 off with "America the Beautiful" pass (which costs $60 - nat'l parks thing). Note that it is in a "diverse" neighborhood with a mass transit drop off right there so you ought to be prepared for "local flavor". Don't leave valuable items in view in your car (phone charger or any other cords indicating valuables inside, coins, hat, lighters, tin foil...). I tripped over an individual who had injected or smoked enough of something to pass out in the middle of the path. I went at 9PM, it's open 'til 10 this time of year (memorial day to labor day I'd assume).
Great place to spend the 4th of July with family and friends. It was crowded but full of fun, excitement, and great light show.
The Gateway Arch Park is a great place. I enjoy taking visitors here from out of town. The new museum is much better than the old. I was really impressed by the new security checkpoint. If only TSA were as courteous and efficient. Overall great experience, buy your tickets online and early is you want a to go up at a specific time.
Nice to see the updates, but the new place already seemed little run down. Security checkpoint, though necessary, was a bit much with rangers somewhat rude.
They did a great job with the recent renovation. The museum provides a surprisingly balanced perspective on the history of Saint Louis and the history of the Gateway Arch.
We did the package deal, which includes the riverboat tour, the documentary film about the building of the arch and the elevator ride to the top. The combination of the three did provide a good overall history of the area.
The riverboat tour is hosted by a National Park representative. He touched briefly on the original Native American people and how they used the river to navigate massive distances. Followed by a history of the French founders and they pointed out some of the key elements of the downtown architecture.
The documentary is dated, but I found it fascinating. My wife fell asleep, so I guess it's not for everyone. My daughters enjoyed it, but they were terrified by the lack of safety the old construction workers had. It was a good history lesson in the reality of how much safety measures have improved.
The museum is great. Super clean and they cover Native American history, the history of modern St. Louis and the history of the arch, which is meant to represent the gateway to the West. The construction of the arch was not without controversy, which ultimately led to the federal equal opportunity employment law.
The arch tour was really cool, but be sure to climb into the test the pod within the main lobby to make sure you're not claustrophobic. My oldest daughter got a bit freaked out, which her younger sister found amusing.
Very informative package overall and a nice escape from the heat.
Really amazing architecture!! Feel stunning when standing below it.
Always an excellent experience. But, it doesn't matter if you buy your tickets on line. You still have to wait in line with everyone else.
Trip to the top of the arch is pricey, but still pretty cool. The updated museum was pretty cool, though my nostalgia does make me miss the old one I remember visiting on grade school field trips. The new entrance is quite spectacular to behold in person, and the improvements to the above-ground park are pretty cool as well. We didn't walk south of the arch, but between the monument and where we parked on Morgan Street, the native wildflower garden is a vast improvement on the garage that was there before.
Took my wife for her first visit. She was awe struck. Your guide was amazing and very knowledgable. We will be back.
It's a very cool experience. I didn't like the pod very much that takes you to the top and back. If you don't like right enclosed spaces you should avoid going up. There are stairs that you have to navigate. Not many and they are sturdy with no open backs (if you are like me that matters lol). Book online. Allow all the time they state for security. The entrance is underground and not at the base of either side of the arch. This was a not confusing. Follow the markings on the pathway ground for best direction
Visiting the Gateway Arch was the first thing on our list during our 2-day visit to St. Louis but we were pleasantly surprised to find more than just the arch.
The Arch itself is beautiful in its simplicity and an engineering marvel and the grounds surrounding it are beautiful. I highly recommend that you visit the top of the arch If you re not afraid of heights and not claustrophobic (the 5-seat cars a rather confining). The views east towards Illinois and west toward St. Louis are fabulous.
Aside from the arch itself, there is a new museum hidden beneath the grounds that tells the history of the area and St. Louis s role in the westward expansion of the United States. You ll also learn about the designing, planning, construction, and operation of the Arch. The facility is operated by the US Forest Service.
The Gateway Arch is cool too see I just wish it was better lit at night. It would be really cool if they lit the Arch with red white and blue lights. It was still cool to see at night.
From an engineering stand point this is just neat to look at. So simple yet inspiring to look at. The ride to the top is also something you will not experience anywhere else except maybe the Eiffel Tower as stated by on of the passengers in our elevator car. If you're at all clostrophobic you probably would not like the ride up, these are 5 person tiny boxes with small door windows you load into.
Spectacular view! Book tickets online! Visit early in the day.
Laura's first time heading to the west. St. Louis MO. Coming home for Columbia MO seeing my family on a short visit. Didn't get to go up in it was already booked for the day. But she was amazed at the actual size of the gate way to the west. The Golden Arch.
I hadn't visited the Arch since they remodeled. It is beautiful!
Some of these shots include photos of the city from the top of the arch itself. The staff was very informative and helpful. If you want a breathtaking view of St Louis we would highly recommend going to the top but if you're afraid of heights I would definitely calm yourself before you head up there.
A bit touristy but the ride in the pod was cool, views amazing and people were pretty nice. Go as a single and they'll move you up in line!
I am very impressed by the new arch grounds. If you have never been, you should go. If you have been, you should go back to see how amazing it is.
Even the interior is excellent. The museum has been entirely redone, and expanded. It was very cool reading about the history of not only the arch, but St. Louis as a whole.
Unexpected unplanned trip just FYI best on the whim place to experience I had an amazing time with an incredible friend
cold foggy rainy day. couldn't see out the windows on the top, but still a good. visit
A great museum and a lovely location. All trips up the Arch full that day but I went to the top many years ago. It's very cool. It's a shame that the climate in our country now requires one to enter via airport-security-like measures.
Parking is challenging and traffic patterns make it challenging to even allow down and get your bearings. Surrounding area is not tourist/ family friendly. Still a beautiful site.
Lots of History to learn around the site. The arch looked stunning reflecting the morning sunshine. Located in a pleasant park with beautiful views of the city skyline & the River.
Must see for the amazing museum and awesome views. Great source of history that is easily consumed by well planned displays. Worth the trip!
What a neat place! We paid to enter and rode the car up to the top of the arch. It was surprisingly quick and we had a great view of the city from the top. We also watched the informational video and, while a little dated, it was super interesting to learn how they built this engineering feat. We would recommend seeing the world-famous arch if you're ever in St. Louis.
Awesome place a must see if u come to st. Louis prices are reasonable only bad thing we couldn't do the river boat due to high waters
Wow, just wow. What a grand monument! I think no visit (or perhaps first visit) to St. Louis should go without touring this destination. The iconic design and size (630 high & 630 feet wide) make it an easily visible feature of the St. Louis skyline. Tour the grounds, visit the museum, take the selfies and be sure to ride the tram to the top! We found nearby curbside parking, and although there is an "Arch parking" ramp on Memorial Drive, it did not have vertical clearance for our large vehicle.
Completely redone visitor center is pretty awesome and highlights the westward journey, Manifest Destiny and even touches on the injustices the Native Americans faced from the US Government. The journey to the top is not for the faint of heart as you are essentially in an space pod for 4 minutes swaying back and forth. The views are worth it though.
Pretty unique experience, when you are queueing up to get on, it kind of feels like you are about to get on a ride at Disney. We went on a saturday and it was crowded up there. I would reccomend going on an off say if you can - we would have stayed up longer if there werent as many people. The museum was pretty meh, a lot of social justice they try to shove at you before you go up - the actual construction and design of the arch are far more interesting (that is why people are there), and that gets a very small section of the museum.
The new grounds are beautiful. the museum was great. I really enjoyed it. Great place to visit.
Simply put... impressive. The distinctive sign of Saint Louis. There is a nice museum underneath. Two thumbs up!!!
You have to see this place.. buy your tickets online the night before to avoid the lines. The newly renovated grounds are incredible!
Must see when you visit. Give lots if time to take tram as it fills up fast.
After 23 years, I'm still in awe of this place. Wish I had more time in the museum, it was really awesome!
Such an amazing experience I definitely want to go back here. Luckily I m only four hours away from this location I m station in Fort Campbell. I highly recommend. There s so much to do if you walk down the street there s so many city parks with a great art. Also you can go up to arch I was too scared to go up but it looks like tons of fun
Loved the history. The museum. The architect. The movie highlighting the construction. The design. The pods and ride up. All of it, so cool. Will be back.
Amazing time took my sister here for her first time great experience cant wait to go back!
Renovations are done and this place is awesome! Loved going there with my 3 year old who has seen the arch from the highway many times! Beautiful scenes along the river too.
Fun. Very, very tight squeeze. Not for the faint of heart or any type of claustrophobia!
Bigger than you think it will be..pretty cool to see
Love the Arch! One of the most underrated national monuments.
The wait was minimal and the ride up took 4 minutes. At the top it was a bit crowded, but overall the experience was very good. The trip down took 3 minutes.
It's cool to see it and walk around. It gets pretty crowded at the top. Definitely worth going to check out if your in STL.
Cool spectacle, i enjoyed the history aspect and friendly guides, going to TSA style security puts a damper on the fun a bit though.
Never fails to impress. They've redone some of the waterfront next to it (there are some. Port-O-Potties there). We did not go up in the Arch but just enjoyed it sitting back on the lawn.
Very nice! The new Arch grounds are beautiful, and the new museum is a must see.
Very impressive monument with a rich history. Seeing it for the first time while driving was exciting. Then being below it and then going up the trolley to the top was a great experience.
Definitely recommend anyone with time to spare in St Louis to visit the Gateway Arch.
It is fantastic and very educational. The problem is parking. Parking is so confusing which makes it not very disabled friendly. My husband had a hard time getting to the arch to enjoy it. Once we did get there it was great. We had a lot of fun.
Awesome experience. They did a fantastic job with the museum renovations. I'm a local boy and everybody local should come check out the new Gateway Arch Museum and the grounds
Great view! The ride to the top was smoother than expected. Even with a small fear of heights I really enjoyed it.
In today's world, cities need a unique visual identifier in order for their skyline to be distinctive and stand out from the rest. St Louis' Gateway Arch does an outstanding job in this regard. In addition to being a visual icon for the city, the arch also has a fantastic observation deck at the top as well as other attractions at the base which include a history museum, theater and a beautiful waterfront park for visitors to enjoy.
