We had high expectations for this venue after hearing great things.

We arrived on a bank holiday Monday, in-between lunch and about 7pm.

We bother ordered a mixed plate each. The portions we very generous. However, the food itself was dry and bland. I get the impression we were served food that was cooked much earlier in the day.

My platter included ribs (which tasted... Bad) and huge portions of sundries. The side sauce pots rescued the meal.

However, we were sat in the upstairs secret bar just as a open mike began. The venue itself is amazing, but I expected better from their marketing.

An overpriced and pretentious bar that tries to be too cool for its own good. Terrible (I mean truly awful), medicinal cocktails that have been invented by the unskilled and frankly arrogant hipsters who work there. Enforced table service which is painfully slow and no one ever really wanted anyway. Would be far better if they just operated like a normal bar and hired people who had actually been educated in how to make a proper drink.

We just stayed downstairs but it was really loud. We couldn't hear eachother talk without shouting in eachothers ears. We also had to sit at a table that was covered in food. When we asked someone to clean it they came over with a dry piece of tissue and took the main bits of food but left this sticky tomato sauce literally all over the table. The toilets were pretty rank too. You walk in and there's various cubicles with either ladies or gents written on. There was guys just standing there pissing with the door open and there's only one sink. We couldn't wait to get out.

Great pub, great atmosphere and great friendly helpful staff. Plenty of beers to choose from. Didn t stay for good today but we have on other occasions which we totally enjoyed. Say upstairs in where the rooms nicely lit, with leather seats. Looks very elegant. Definitely a place to pop into when your passing.

Decent cocktails (I can easily recommend the bucket of strawberry daiquiri, however it is too easy to drink it too fast and get severe brain freeze)! On a Saturday night they have rockier/heavier music on the ground floor, and more dance like music on the top floor. Due to the bar being relatively small, you will get people bumping into you and the occasional girl (or boy!) grinding you with their posterior - as long as it is all taken in a good manner then fun can be had by all!

Far from a good place to go at night. While the drinks are overpriced, and the atmosphere is seedy, the staff are also unfriendly and pretentious, and they are prone to making unfortunate judgments about customers physical appearance and monetary status. Only go here if you are looking to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome while paying too much for an underwhelming drink.

Cane and Grain. A brilliant bar within Manchester scenic northern quarter. It has 3 floors with different bars and a wide range of drinks on tap. Although aesthetically very nice on the inside and out. The bar itself is a little pricey due to the area of Manchester it resides in. Certainly worth a visit.

Said they wouldn't serve a family member because "He looks like he's had a stroke" no mate, just had cancer removed from his face. Getting back on his feet and some bellend says something like that. Shocking behaviour.

It's ok but I wouldn't go for food after 7 as it's busy. Not to be ageist as well but alot of young people who are drunk however no problems but just something to think about if you want a family meal.

One of my favourites. I always think of the beer and American diner style menu but there s also a speakeasy type bar upstairs and apparently a tiki room too! Something for everyone. The staff are lovely too. Proper Mancunian friendliness!

Had drinks on the ground floor, and drinks/dinner on the first floor (reached via a secret door). Loved the 1st floor decor, am not much of a fan of cocktails but theirs were pretty amazing. Full rack of ribs for dinner was pretty decent too - will return when in Manchester.

Southern style U.S "dude food" (a silly naming trend as my wife loves it more than me). Perfectly cooked baby back ribs, not sloppy fall off the bone, but tender tear off with your teeth leaving the bone clean (as they should be). St Louis ribs, juicy burgers with crispy fresh veg, crunchy seasoned fries, creamy mac n cheese, Jacobs ladder, perfect sauces, collard greens, and so much more I'll be back to try. Service is friendly, so are the prices. Oh and the cold keg beer is magic. Highly recommended.

First of all I have to mention the transformation this place has undergone. A total transformation of the space and feel from the Thomas St Restaurant, the previous occupier, the 3 floors all have a unique style and feel very much like different venues, the attention to detail that has gone into each floor is amazing, if you like design check out some of the signs, they are a work of art. Each with it's own unique features but all welcoming and cosy, the Tap Room was hammered even on a Thursday but the others were quite quiet.

When we arrived we were whisked to the First Floor Bar which looks and feels like something out of 1930's New York, the detailing in the decor and menu's is phenomenal.
The service was top class and our waitress gave us great recommendations on the food and drinks.
To the important stuff, the food, we opted for the Rib Roll and a selection of sides. The 11" roll is a delicacy, the coleslaw is a perfect accompaniment to the perfectly cooked rib meat. Though the stand out for us was the sides, the Jalapenos in Smoking Jackets & Smoke Pit Beans with Burnt Ends were probably the best sides I've ever had in Manchester
I'd have no hesitation ordering a table full of them whilst sampling some of the awesome cocktails.

My only minor negative is that the drink menu differs depending which floor you are on, I can understand that with signature cocktails but for things like draft beer it's a bit of a pain if you have to order on different levels if members of group want different. Luckily for us our waitress went downstairs to get us the draft beers though not sure that would happen if it was busier.

Will definitely be returning.

Quite a very busy pub mainly used by the young professionals in Manchester.
It has 2 bars, the ground floor and then another bar on the top floor, both about the same size.
It was quite noisy as they play background music so it can be difficult to have a conversation but it does have a great atmosphere.

Really great atmosphere with a wide range of drinks (both alcoholic and non). The bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. We went mid week so it was quieter as it seems like it could be quite popular. The food menu looks good and they have different offers on. Overall, worth a visit when you are in the area and want to grab a drink or a bite to eat with friends!

The portions are nowhere near as big as they used to be. I assume Brexit is the reason for this, but regardless if you went here a year or so ago versus now you'll certainly notice.

The waiting staff at Cain & Grain never seem to be in a hurry to take your order. Numerous times colleagues and I have gone for an hour lunch, sat down, waited 30 minutes or more for our orders to be taken and 20 minutes to recieve said food only to have to throw it down our necks so we can rush back to work.

The food here is nice, but honestly, it's not worth the hassle.

Reserved a table for my sons 18th Birthday in Science and Industry as he is a ribs fan. Food was really good ... but what was really nice was that we were not rushed throughout our meal, even though it was a Friday night. We were made to feel really welcome and even though one of my sons was running really late to join us the server helped us work around this an made it into a really good night for my son whose birthday it was
