Always great food and the best baked french onion ...
Always great food and the best baked french onion soup anywhere!
Always great food and the best baked french onion soup anywhere!
This is my favorite restaurant ! The food is delicious!!! Upstairs is a perfect setting if you want ambiance and romance....or not. If you're into historical value the Dobbin house has that too. Dress up if you like or go casual this place will fit every occasion. The tavern is perfect if your looking for great food and even more casual dining. We have been enjoying the Dobbin House experience for 16 years and we have never been disappointed. It can be a little pricey depending on your budget and what you order. Highly recommend to all my friends.
Very period authentic, courteous staff, delicious food!
Food is great and love the ambiance. Always a must go when I visit.
I love the Dobbin House, so much history that you can feel.
Beautifully restored home with a warm atmosphere, friendly staff dressed in historically appropriate clothes, and good food. This place feels like a live, real-life museum that you can eat in. Definitely worth it if you re in Gettysburg.
Food was very good and the atmosphere very pleasant. Staff very was very cheerful which can be difficult to maintain in this covid world we live in.
Service was outstanding! The food was scrumptious! And the drinks were spot on! Would visit again and again!
Step through the doors and enter into the past. Candle light adds an old world ambiance to the dining room. Good food.
I had the crab dip for my meal and it was good but not amazing or anything. My husband had the reuben and it was really good!
Very cool experience in an old house with wait staff dressed in period clothing. We ate in the dining room upstairs which is quite crowded and small. My chicken was not very tasty but maybe it was a period recipe and that's the way they fixed it? My husband's steak was quite good. We especially loved the sweet breads they bring out before the meal. Tip: Make reservations even if it's a week night. We went on Thursday evening around 6pm and because there was only 2 of us, we were able to get in right away but most people had to wait an hour.
Food was amazing.. However there are 2 separate menus. 1 for the tavern and 1 for "Fine Dining" and you cannot order off there opposite menu from where you are seated
Great place to eat. Very crowded though. Need to make reservations at least 2 months ahead of time
The mahi mahi was the fish of the day, and was delicious.
History lives here! Elegant, cozy, 5 star plus service. Menu fantastic. Impeccable intimate atmosphere.
Well deserves reputation as a top destination in Gettysburg. Service was friendly and attentive despite how busy they were. Menu is terrific, the dishes have an historic feel with out being bland. Went as a group and every dish was terrific.
The dank musty smell of the field stone basement adds to the charm of this unique dining experience, sit back and relax as the servers meet your expectations in period garb. experience a ice cold beat that summer heat with one of their crafted carbonated beverages.
Great food as usual. Service was pretty slow this time though and the kids meal steak is pretty pricey at $15.
Beyond Excellent. Great food and service. Located right down from the Gettysburg battlefield. We dined in spring house tavern. The oldest historic home in Gettysburg.
Truly a remarkable dining experience. The food was AMAZING and the historic atmosphere can't be beat. Will eat here every time we visit Gettysburg.
Stoped at the gift shop very nice. Are here before very good food.
Before our trip to Gettysburg, I contacted Dobbin House to see what gluten free celiac safe options they had. Lauren was amazing and sent me a complete list of safe items. Then when we got to the Dobbin House we told the waitress he had celiac and she let the kitchen know to ensure safety. Following the meal we got a chance to meet and thank Lauren - which lead to a private tour of the house. Not only did we have great food and service, but we can now say that we got to see the inside of the oldest house in Gettysburg. We will be back for sure!
Crab ala Dobbin is to die for. So was slow roasted sweet potato with cinnamon and brown sugar. Healthy size portions, attentive servers and reasonable prices for what you get. Charming historic building, purportedly the 1st underground railroad site north of the Mason Dixon line. And don't forget the amazing home made bread.
Beautiful and fascinating. Very good food in a beautiful setting.
Very nice for what looks like a tourist trap. I had the spinach salad which was a perfect lunch size, and had tons of bacon. We also had a great and cheese appetizer which was excellent.
Terribly long wait, but the food was great. Dungeon was a great atmosphere. Get the spitfire chicken.
Amazing food and the house dressing is out of this world. The gift shop is also very nice.
Wow what a huge disappointment in every aspect. Service slow, awful, food overpriced awful, and in this Covid world I do t want to be treated like a leper!
With the exception of the Shy Bear in Lewistown, most of these establishments treat you like it s a hospital cafeteria and your waiting for bad news.
You simply MUST eat in the tavern! It is an amazing experience! Time period clothed servers, dine by candlelight.. the atmosphere alone is a 10/10! The food is AHHHmazing! The French onion soup, Italian dressing, hamburger and ravioli with vegetable marinara...YUMMY! The beef burger was so tasty. The soup was very flavorful. Potato salad was sweet. The ravioli sauce had yellow squash, asparagus, eggplant , zucchini, mushrooms, peppers and onions in the sauce!! Our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive
Cozy atmosphere, excellent service, and expertly prepared seafood dishes. Highly recommend when visiting Gettysburg.
I had my favorite french onion soup with a side of sweet bread with cream cheese and a rum belly revenge!
It was fun the food was excellent and the stories in that house was interesting and knowledgeable
Excellent!! Preserved very well, great staff and amazing food! I explored the museum, for to see the fireplace, and even the crawl space the unfortunate underground railroaders had to hide in. They even still had the original spring that supplied to Dobbin household, students, and many wounded soldiers with their fresh water. The whole thing was so surreal.
With COVID, it's had to judge the atmosphere, but I would give food vs.price and a customer service a three. This place is more like a diner- don't expect anything trendy, romantic or delicious.
Great civil war feel. Good food. Definitely would recommend it. 5
The atmosphere is very good. Staff is friendly and professional, service was great. Prices and food are very good. Menu is expected - comfort food (burgers, sandwiches, sides) - but the atmosphere is what sets the restaurant apart from all others. Definitely the old train station vibe, complete with historic items on walls and shelves. Definitely will return!
Cold beer and tasty steak and crabcakes! Not too shabby!
While considering places to I came across Dobbin House which stated in was the oldest building in Gettysburg. The food was all delicious and not too expensive. Ruth our waitress was great, she was easy to talk to and was very knowledgeable about drink and menu items. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting good eats, great sevice with a pleasant atmosphere.
Oh my gosh, I love their steak. They make it just right! All I needed was some A1 steak sauce and it would have been perfect! Next time maybe I will bring my own steak sauce ha ha! It is a little pricey though but still really good!
Really neat to dine at a tavern that's as old as our country is. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I had a question about the food we had there, a month after I visited. And after emailing the staff. They went above and beyond to help me. And I will be visiting them in the future.
Excellent meal, great service, fun knowing it was haunted.
The best place to eat in Gettysburg. Get a glass of cider.
Dobbin House is our must stop in Gettysburg. Today was a fabulous lunch at the Tavern. The gift shop is fantastic. Love the Dobbin House
We have always loved the Dobbin House, especially the Springhouse Tavern. It s a Saturday afternoon, and capacity is restricted due to COVID so we expected a wait. The hostess told us 20 minutes, which was fine, but after about 40 minutes we began to wonder if we d gotten missed. I checked with the hostess, who said there was one party ahead of us, so we continued to wait. Then we watched at least three parties go inside to be seated parties who had arrived after us. The hostess kept saying things like almost ready, they re just finishing up, etc. After an hour we weren t interested in waiting anymore and we left. I get that you can t predict exactly what the wait time will be, but at no point did anyone come over and say Sorry the wait is so long, can I interest you in an outside table? or frankly ANYTHING that would have come across as concern. Instead, we left thinking we were purposely passed up because we weren t wearing masks, or because my husband (a veteran) has arm tattoos, or what - whatever the reason we were clearly not getting the customer service we re used to. I called the manager to bring the situation to his attention, so maybe they lose fewer customers to this kind of issue - and he was defensive and smarmy from the get-go. No attempt at service recovery - not even really a sincere apology... just a well I m sorry you weren t served as quickly as you would have liked followed up by a poor us tirade about COVID and profitability. Everybody is adjusting to restrictions and doing what they can - but with this guy as the final arbiter of poor customer service, they re unfortunately on a downhill path.
The food was very good and the tavern is a very fun place to eat at while visiting Gettysburg.
A very unique tavern that is worth the visit. The food was unique and tasted great, as did the drinks. The atmosphere was very in line with the 19th century theme and feel very special because of it.
Very nice place great restaurant down in th cellar.
History of this house. Topped off with great service and atmosphere
I always stop here when in Gettysburg. Great food & atmosphere!
A wonderful restaurant for an out-of-the-ordinary dinner experience. They serve Wyndridge cider.....and you won't find a better hard cider in the tri-state area
Food is ok but nothing special in view of menu prices. The restaurant is decorated very nicely in colonial style but chairs are not very comfortable. The success of this restaurant is based on its location and attractive appearance. Don't eat here for the food however.
Classy restaurant that can do good job adjust to business needs.
Always a great time here! I prefer to eat downstairs in the Spring House Tavern, but upstairs is nice as well. The beef onion soup and Don s Derring-Do are my favorite items to get here! Plus the atmosphere is one of a kind!
If you're going to dine in Gettysburg go here. Be sure to check out the underground railroad exhibit. Get whatever the wait staff recommends, their house specialties are top notch.
Eaten here multiple times, food and service is always great.
Sandwich have gotten smaller . Onion soup smaller bowl . We used to love this place . We will be taking a break.
The tavern is a fun place to eat. Staff is dressed in period. They do not take reservations at the tavern so expect to wait at the bar. The portions are large enough to share.
Good food and atmosphere. Not great for larger parties and kind of cramped.
Very nice atmosphere, attentive staff, good food reasonably priced
This place is amazing my first time there. The food was out of this world and the server went out of her way to accommodate us. Would love to go there again sometime.
After much hype we decided to finally try this place for dinner. It was crowded and we agreed to a 45 minute wait. We observed some 'tudey interactions from the wait staff but generaly we grabbed some beers and checked out the gift shop. When we got seated, our party of 4 got crammed into a table clearly meant for two. In fact, I actually had to get up to allow another patron to get to their seat. I saw no way to eat a full blown meal so we got some appetizers and drinks and bolted. Unfortunately I feel that the place is just too money hungry in trying to cram people in such a small spot. If you can't seat us, just say so. I don't think other people should feel like they are at a baseball game because people are so jammed in their seat. The food was fine but a bit pricey for the small portion. My recommendation would be to go to fransworth restaurant which is a better environment and food without the annoyance.
