Heard the nicest anecdote about a family friend who intended to come in for lunch and, having inquired about the prices, was told "If you have to know the price then you cant afford it". What a cliched line; whomever said it should be embarrassed.

Myself and my girlfriend have had two fantastic experiences at The Boxtree. On both occasions the staff were fantastic and spent plenty of time chatting to us and helping us through the menu. The food was fantastic as you d expect but the whole atmosphere of the restaurant was what made it special.

This is probably my favourite restaurant of all time! The food is to die for and the service is incredible. The tasting menu caused me to try things I wouldn't normally go for and always in a positive way. The staff always remember you and are wonderful and make the experience truly special! Highly recommend!

The taster menu an education. Will definitely go again!

Having booked our wedding catering with Box Tree Events after recommendation we decided to treat both sets of parents to a meal there to celebrate. What a fantastic decision, the food was genuinely faultless - nobody had any complaints and the service was perfect - Chris who I assume is the front of house manager is, alongside the food, the greatest asset this restaurant has. Attentive without being overbearing and a fantastic sense of humour - he has that rare gift of detecting quickly and easily who he can talk to in a certain way. I left having paid what you may consider a hefty bill in general terms for dining out, feeling like I had got a bargain! The Box Tree is most certainly back - congratulations to the whole team.

The food is first class, the team are very attentive, professional and committed to high levels of service. They know their food and wine and nothing is too much trouble. It's great to have a restaurant of this quality still producing great food after almost 60 years in business.

From the minute we set foot in the building until the time we left we had nothing but exceptional food, service and ambiance. We opted for the tasting menu accompanied by the recommended wines for each course. The sommelier was knowledgable and encouraging. The wines he recommended paired beautifully with the food. In total we had 6 courses of truly stupendous food. I can t recommend this place enough. We ll be back for sure.

This restaurant deserves a second Michelin star. Perfect food - fresh, flavours, quantity, colourful, innovative - perfect attentive service, unique ambiance... A truly great 5 restaurant off the beaten track and definitely worth a stop.

Visited here with a group of family for the Sunday lunch. From start to finish the staff made us feel very welcome, and were very helpful in explaining the menu etc. to us if needed. The only gripe was not being able to add an extra person to the booking a will earlier, they said it's not possible.
The menu choice was ok for Sunday lunch - nothing that seemed that exciting though, and obviously the two roast meat options, but I was expecting a bit more from somewhere with this reputation.
The food we had was good, seasoned very well and cooked exactly as it should be, the roasts looked like good roasts but it's difficult to get a roast wrong anyway - I went for something different which was good but not particularly exciting.
Overall a great building, fantastic staff and will cooked food, I would return again but not for the Sunday lunch as for the price I'd rather go for the special tasting menu and get singing unique and different.

Excellent evening; the food was up to the standard expected from a restaurant with a Michelin star. The setting was quite unique with an antique looking interior, and the staff were warm and attentive. The multi tasking sommelier was approachable and informative.

Over the last few years this place has got stronger and stronger. We tend to go twice a year and in the last 5 years we have only had one evening of poor service. The menus cater for different tastes, they have one of the most comprehensive wine lists i have ever seen and the attention to detail on the dishes is excellent and balanced.
The decor is more like entering a smaller stately homes drawing room and dining area...hard to describe, but if you want consistent Michelin stared food, much sourced locally, at a reasonable price, then look no further. Btw their cheese selection is always brilliant.

This place is fantastic.
The service leading up to the day was excellent - very considerate and helpful.
On the day the staff were incredible. They saw to our every needs but were not intrusive at all

The food was delicious. Easily deserving of one Michelin star
A fantastic restaurant all round. Exactly the kind of experience you want when you think "fine dining"
No snootiness or snobbery just a great time

Amazing food here. We booked in to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The ambience felt exclusive, and even though they were busy (table of 20 upstairs) you felt like you were dining in a small, intimate restaurant. We opted for A La Carte because the chocolate dessert wasn't on the set menu. The food was divine, service was spot on, and we would happily go back again and again.

The experience of eating here was something genuinely incredible. The staff from the moment we arrived were brilliant and couldn't do enough to make sure everything was perfect for us. And the food was absolutely delicious, I would strongly recommend eating here.

The food was absolutely delicious but we found the atmosphere very stuffy and frankly the service was extremely disappointing. We had to wait 40 minutes for a member of staff to ask us what we would like for our dessert. The dress code is somewhat confining. Shorts and a tee shirt absolutely not. However smart casual should surely be acceptable in the 21st century.

I have been to the box tree several times and felt on this occasion I really enjoyed the more relaxed atmosphere friendly service from a young professional team, the food was delicious, innovative and relatable. An added touch was the head chef was roaming the restaurant involved in the service and chatting to customers which was really appreciated. The whole evening was very pleasant.

Visited The Box Tree Restaurant for a 60th birthday meal and everything was perfect.

The service was excellent and Max looked after the table of 12 with ease. He was very knowledgeable about anything and everything we asked him about.

The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious.

The portions initially appeared on the small side but we didn't leave hungry.

Would love to go back some time.

This establishment has taken advantage of the current pandemic in the most shameful of ways.
Our daughter s wedding was booked for the middle of August at the prestigious Denton hall and the Box Tree are their nominated supplier for the banquet.
With the current COVID 19 rules in place this was cancelled by the venue, which was in itself traumatic enough, however Denton hall and all other suppliers with the exception of the Box tree immediately offered full refunds.

Throughout this period, they have been evasive, rude and thoroughly unpleasant. Reducing my family to tears at times.
Please support us by taking your custom elsewhere, this is a shameful establishment.

We have been to restaurants with similar price tags before and with every new dish, the first bite would make us look at each other and say wow! - we didn t have this once here.

We also feel the dress code needs to be consistent; vest tops/flip flops/shabby white tshirts and trainers was not attire I had expected to see.

The only saving grace was the exceptional service. All the staff were attentive, polite and well informed of the food and drink on offer.

Exceptionally warm welcome and the service is excellent. It goes without saying about the standard of food, but let's say it anyway...fantastic. A great place to dine out. All current measures adhered to in these strange and ever changing times.

A truly fabulous dining experience. We were awkward b****rs - wanting this from one menu and that from another (sounds quite simple, but we we being pains, though not deliberately so). They could not do enough to help us and were unbelievably accommodating. Then, to top it all, every piece of food was fabulous.

Of course, you pay for it, but you go to the Box Tree knowing that.

For mere mortals, a special place for a special occasion.

Where the experience is as important as food both excel in equal measure. Staffbare amazing. Venue is quirky and shic. Food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Perfect wine advice.

We had the Menu Gourmand, with a couple of relatively new dishes, which were delicate, delicious and well put together, particularly with the Sommelier's recommendations. An exquisite dining experience.

This really is an outstanding restaurant to visit for a special occasion. From the moment we entered the building until the moment we left we were made to feel like real VIP's with such a great amount of care given to ourselves from the restaurant team. The food was divine, completely faultless, I just wish I didn't have to drive as I'd have liked to have sampled much more of the wine list. Brilliant!

Visited with the family for Sunday lunch. The starters were fantastic but unfortunately it was downhill from there. The main course was nothing out of the ordinary - on a par with a decent pub roast - and the desserts were disappointing. The blackberry souffle looked great but lacked flavour, and was overwhelmed by the chocolate sauce that didn't work with it. I expected much more of a restaurant that has held a Michelin star for so long. Sorry but the food was just not good enough, though the service was fantastic. I have eaten better at many pubs in Yorkshire for half the price.

Ok so some...of the food out of this world. Some if it.... I.e vegetarian option....shockingly poor. I found that bizarre! What a contrast. As a vegetarian.... I would not go here.... unless mashed potatoes covered in vinegar....is your thing
