I was admitted for a stem cell transplant on 5th January 2015. I had multiple Myeloma for 18 months at that time. My experience with the nursing staff could not have been bettered anywhere else. At all times they were attentive, caring, professional and supportive.
Unfortunately I caught an infection through a Hickman line that caused me great problems in that I was admitted to Gartnavel HDU for 14 days. I don't remember anything about it however my wife told me that the nurses and doctors fought 100% to save my life on more than one occassion.
When I was eventually returned to my hospital room for recovery, my wife was allowed to stay with me and slept in a small bed at the foot of mine. I was in that room for a further two months until released for home.
Do I remember the hugs and love showered on me from the nurses - auxilliary and staff? Will I ever forget the consultants and registrars who looked after me with such care and professionalism?
The answer to that is an emphatic NO . I applaud you all xx
No human is perfect, so by reason no organisation is therefore perfect. We can all nitpick like some of the comments on this site and focus in on some minor points, however would you want to be treated anywhere else when you have such wonderful treatment on tap here, and free at the point of use.

Staff are great but the waiting time for your appointments and the pharmacist are papal ing you can spend 4 hours hanging about for 10 minutes with the consultants .I have to get someone to bring me up so they have to wait 4 + hours as well.
The consultants should have numbers allocated and patients take a ticket for the consultant as obviously appointments are not working i am always left to be taken 1hour 30 mins after it's time I am booked for. Then I have to wait from 1>2 hours for pharmacy which is no joy bearing in mind I have a 50 mile round trip.

I am speaking for a friend who is having treatment the nursing staff are amazing it is the pharmacy who have caused all the delays my friend goes to beat son a Wednesday to have blood taken to make sure she is fit to have chemo and so her chemo will be ready when she comes back on a Friday not once has she been able to get her chemo after her line is flushed she has to wait hours on the pharmacy sending it up before someone tells me they are very busy and short staffed these are the same people who left the pharmacy closed for more than two hours while they went for their Xmas lunch knowing that a group of people had already been waiting for chemo and had to wait until pharmacy deigned to come back I was absolutely disgusted when I heard this and people should know what's going on and maybe things can be changed

After reading the negative reviews I am sorry but I have to stick up for the staff and the hospital. During my six months stint with chemotherapy and radiotherapy all the nursing staff were excellent and the medical staff went above and beyond the call of duty in some cases. My mum passed away with cancer just before my diagnosis but she too was kept in the loop by all her medical team as to what was happening. Brilliant hospital, fantastic staff and no complaints.

My uncle has ongoing treatment at the moment. I ,in all honesty cannot say enough good things about the staff. As painfull as his treatment is, the nurses and doctors help to make it just a wee bit more bareable. I will never be able to thank them enough.

My wife has been looked after incredibly well since 2008 by a phenomenal team of very dedicated people led by Professor Rob Jones & Dr. Balaji Venugopal. Our eternal thanks to them all for their kindness and continued care of the many people living with cancer.

My wife and I are watching the BBC documentary and it brings back memories of wonderful staff in the clinical trials department where my wife and daughter visited every Wednesday. This was a HAPPY place not doom and gloom by any means, when they went there they met so many wonderful staff and made so many wonderful friends still to this day. Every Wednesday one of the visitors accompanying a patient had a great singing voice so they all had a great sing song, with other joining in, many laughed and said is it gin in the infusion instead of chemo. A truly truly wonderful place.

My daughter was there for treatment and I must say was treated very well until she decided she didn't want the major procedure they wanted to do, I felt and both felt they washed their hands of her after she said no to a major life changing operation.. I as her mum in the whole time travelling to there felt no support when there and had to fight each time for a family room to stay with my daughter as we were travelling from the North of Scotland every time by train and my mum was in hospital battling motor neuron disease. My daughter did pass away and it has honestly taken me a long time to get this off my chest Im sorry but I feel my daughter was just a number and I was honestly treated like I wasn't anything at all,

My mother spent time here before having to move to the QEUH for more serious complications, and unfortunately never returned.
She found her short time at the Beatson very relaxing and therapeutic.
