Complicated returns. Staff try's to push you to another register to avoid your transaction. Decent prices if there is a sale. Better to visit Tonka Ski or Erik's if you are looking for customer service and better prices. They actually overcharged us and when we came back they said it wasn't worth our time to come in for the difference. Will go there when I NEED to. But otherwise I am fine to visit other businesses.

It was super busy today with ski season starting, but the staff was still super fast, efficient, and friendly despite all the chaos. They had a check in process set up anticipating how busy it would be. Very knowledgeable staff. We ve been coming here for last 3 years for equipment. We would not buy our skis anywhere else.

My wife and I went into Hoigaard's for the first time to see if we could set her up with a downhill ski set for a deal. I jumped the gun and ordered mine online (remember this for later).

We were able to get her a pair of skis, boots, poles and helmets for both of us all for 25% off. Gary Ball in the ski dept helped us out and didn't even give me crap for getting mine online. He was super knowledgeble and didn't push us towards higher end skis we didn't need. She loves her ski's!

Onto myself. I brought in my skis and boots and bindings to get mounted when they arrived via UPS. I asked Gary about the boot size I ordered and he promised me they were a size and a half too big. As a bummer as it was, I trusted his opinion. Unfortunately all shops around town were out of that boot in my size. They offered to call the manufacturer and another store in Milwaukee for me to find them. (Even though I still hadn't purchased anything from them). They ended up finding them and shipped them next day air. Overall I was blown away by the prices, the knowledge of the staff, and the amazing customer service even to a person who didn't originally give them my business. I'm heading there tonight to pick up my completed skis. Hoigaard's has made me a lifetime customer!

This store has it all. Canoeing? Perfect they have a paddle. Skiing? Great they have 30 balaclavas. Need a dress shirt? Well depending on what they means for you they could have it.

In all seriousness, I would try to stop in here and see whats going on. You can find things in each price range: good, better, best. They often have sales that are wort seeing too.

The staff was so knowledgeable and helpful. We went to look at snowboard gear for my son and he was given the time and attention needed to get him in equipment specific to his size and needs. The store was extremely busy that day but because of the awesome customer service, I ended up buying everything we needed from there, even though the plan was to head to a snowboard shop after that. The guys in the snowboard area know what the heck they're doing!!! Can't thank those guys enough.

I like the store, until one day I was pulled over ...

I like the store, until one day I was pulled over by a rather aggressive police officer and ticketed when I was informed that the intersection next to the store is "no turn on red" for what I assume is revenue generation reasons. After that if I need bike equipment I go elsewhere. Who wants to go through that when you're just looking to go shopping.

They don t like honoring their return policy. Most outdoors stores are graceful in returns - especially when they have customer satisfaction at their core. Hoigaard s claims to have that, but when it came down to it, the employee handling the exchange was insulting.

It seems every time I try to shop here I am made to feel like I am a nuisance. I sat on hold for 10 minutes waiting to get a simple answer to an inventory question. Then when I go in, some lady treats me like dirt. No thanks, I'd rather spend my money at Pierce.

I stopped here on a recommendation from my brother. I d been searching for ski boots with no luck (short legs, wide calves) and he told me if anyone could help it would be Hoigaard s. I was prepared to spend hours and didn t get my hopes up. After taking numerous measurements, asking lots of questions about my ski style, and listening to my complaints on fit of boots I tried, the gentleman brought out a pair of boots that fit like a glove and were super comfy to boot! I was elated to say the least! Fabulous customer service, and they ve earned a loyal customer.

Had a great experience purchasing inline skates. The sales person was helpful even with a slightly lower technical understanding of inline skates, and I was allowed to test drive a few models around the main loop through the store! Luckily it was a quiet day, and I took advantage of the opportunity to test until I found the right fit and feel.

Since the purchase I've put many miles on those skates and already am close to a return trip for a set of wheels. I'm sure the next time I need some miscellaneous gear I'll be in as well, the location is much better for us than REI.

My wife and I are new in cross country skiing and visited this store to check out some skiing equipment. The staff was very helpful and we ended up getting new ski's and gear! Now we are just waiting for snow!

I used to be a customer of Hoigaards for while. Customer service is mediocre until there is an issue with the item and they pass it on to their repair guys.

I have an item there for service for more than 3 weeks already. Initially i was told that someone would call me in 3 days. Every employee or representative that i talked to since either lied or tried to charge me for services that weren't necessary or asked.

Very disappointing experience this time. I am taking all my business and referrals elsewhere.

If you ever forget what great customer service is like, stop by Hoigaards. These people are retail pros. Lots of long time knowledgeable staff. Very nice people. They have high quality gear and the staff knows what they are talking about.

The service shop was terribly disorganized and had no idea what was going on with the skis that were brought in to be mounted with bindings I purchased there. They couldn't find me in the computer because even though when they wrote up my order they said, "you don't need anything when you come back - we'll just look you up by your phone number" - no one, not one of the 3 people I spoke to ever put my phone number in the computer. They rushed my job because even though I called ahead to make sure it was complete it was not - someone put a Hoigaard's ski strap on my skis, threw my new bindings in a corner and called it done!

Saw a boot/ski fitter today. Told the guy what we were looking for and he basically ignored us and tried to push us into an basic pair of entry level skis that didn t meet our needs. They were really busy, I get that, but we waited over an hour with 2 kids to be pretty much ignored. I could have picked out a pair foam core skis off of the rack myself.

Top notch staff. I have both my snowboard and bike serviced here . Great price on the service. Awesome staff that acknowledge you without been pushy. I like the seasonal sales the best. Tip : if you have a vail/afton season pass you receive some discounts on things and services.

Customer service here is great. They really know their stuff. Andy in the cross country ski department is an absolute trove of knowledge, having been in the business for decades. They have top-notch equipment, and I love supporting a local business that has been serving the community for so long.

Terrible service! I brought my son's bike in for r...

Terrible service! I brought my son's bike in for routine maintenance. They told me it would be done in less than a week, maybe even the next day.

After the first week, they said the recent snowstorm had brought in additional snow equipment which put them behind. Honestly, I don't think a rush in snow equipment repairs should impact the order of services.

Am I not a paying customer too?

After multiple phone calls and excuses, I was told this morning the bike was being worked on. After not hearing anything in 4 hours, I called back. They were supposedly still working on it.

Finally, 22 days later, I have the bike. During my pick-up, no acknowledgment of how long it took, no discount, nothing.

My wife and I went into today to get my skis waxed and to check out the winter sales event. We have never been so taken care of or impressed. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Not only did I get my ski waxed while I waited, I got a education on the icelantic ski I got used. They have made us customers for life.

PFFTT Play it again in Minnetonka is so much better. Much cheaper to get some decent used stuff until you are experienced enough. Plus they carry a lot of new skis as well. Also with it seems like only 2 or 3 people on staff at a time they are way more personable for help

Horrible customer service! I had a coupon for a $...

Horrible customer service! I had a coupon for a $10 off which stated that it covers closeout items. I brought a jacket to the counter, only to be told, we do not honor that coupon, as it is already sale priced. When I pointed out that it says good for closeout items, she responded, "Oh no, Hoigaards has never given discounts twice like that." I left the jacket lying on the counter.

Stopped in for their Bike and Boat sale event today. Andy was so knowledgeable and helpful. He helped me pick out the right size and style bike, waited patiently while I kept trying the bikes out, answered all of my questions, made sure I got the accessories I needed without overselling me, made sure I knew how to use the bike, made sure I had the bike and helmet adjusted just right, and told me about tune ups they provide. The bike techs in back tuned my bike up before I left without any wait. Will definitely come back for bike and other outdoor needs.

I needed to get my bike repaired on a few small things, and I usually go to Erik's, where a quick tune-up would come out to ~$74,and they'd keep my bike for a few days, but this time I looked online and found that Hoigaards would only charge $50. I took in my bike and they fixed everything right in front of me! Tightened up everything for free, and only charged $15 for re-calibrating my gears. Happy customer, do recommend. Very friendly staff.

Refused to honor competitor's pricing and their best SALE price was twice as expensive as REI. Won't be back either. Service is average as well

Big fan of these guys. Apparel prices are on the higher end but they have everything you need from an outdoors' gear perspective. Their service department is great. I dropped by snowboard off that needed a lot of work and they brought it back to almost as good as new. Regular belt tune was $45 and had to add some P-Tex filler for another $10.00 but overall great value. Staff is always friendly even when busy, this is what a small local business should be all about. If you live in the St. Louis Park/Edina/Uptown area bring your business to Hoigaard's, they won't do you wrong.

Wish their website had more information about the specific products they carry and the prices, even if you couldn t purchase online or see whether an item is in stock at a particular store. I was in the market for XC skis recently and didn t purchase them from Hoigaard s since I was looking online, but then later went to Hoigaard s and saw the XC ski gear was 30% off! Now I know for next time :(

Great outdoor store! My wife and I wish we had found this place sooner! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Just the right balance between friend & helpful VS pushy & annoying. Good selection of clothes and accessories. Good outdoor shoe selection as well. Had some very unique and cool products. We will be back...

As a novice skier, I rented skate ski equipment so I could take skate ski lessons. Unfortunately, the poles were too long for me and the skis were unwaxed. All things that I had no experience with and I learned during my lesson. Bottom line, I was unable to complete my lesson to due improper equipment rented to me by the staff at Hoigaards. They wasted my time and money. Do not go here as a novice, they won't help you.

Rented three sets of cross country skis for this recent snowstorm and I could not be more pleased with the customer service at Hoigaard s. Excellent equipment and excellent service. Andy in the cross country ski department really took care of us and gave us good advice for future ski adventures.

They've been super busy every time we went in but they still managed to give us the time and attention we needed. Pro tip: If you think you'll need extra attention for a boot fitting, call ahead and make an appointment.

We had GREAT customer service experience over the weekend. Even thought the store was very busy the Cust. Service dept. took time out to help us with our needs. We had misplaced a pair of snowboard boots when we were in looking for a board, skis and boots. We figured they were long gone. Nope, found them. So thankful for the guy that took the time to look in multiple places for us!

Excellent education on Nordic XC ski. Unfortunately the service for rentals doesn't keep up. I rented gear that was defective and was NOT offered any sort of refund. Disappointed. Won't return.

Frequently out of stock with pricing higher than REI.

That s why we shop at REI.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to two Hoigaard's employees that went above and beyond in helping me today. Jonathan in the back/shop area that immediately whisked into action to see what my issues were with my new skis and to "make it right." He listened to my challenges with my skis, assessed the problem and led me to another great employee Chris White. After listening to both Jonathan and me, Chris quickly found the perfect set of skis for me. I had gone to Hoigaard's since I was a little girl and even though I don't live as close anymore, I'm so thankful I came back. Tonight solidified my status as a Hoigaard's customer for life. Thank you all!

Their selection of goods are great, they have good sales and are well organized. Their downfall is their customer service. I have come to this place many times and have experienced the same atmosphere in which I do not get approached when looking at items, no greets at the door. When I do have a question that needs answering, I have to go in search of an employee and when I find one, they speak as if they have been pulled away from doing something important. Many times an employee would answer a question like you re uneducated, talk to you with an annoyance in their tone of speech and often times, not even a face to face conversation but a loud voice from across a room answering your questions with simply stating a price. I would walk into the store hoping a change in customer experience, but every time I have interest in purchasing an item, having to deal with their customer services makes me just walk out of the store.

This place - not enough kind words to say about it. We were looking to save some money on a canoe rental for BWCA trip. We saved going through them. They helped us get it strapped to the car. When we ended up getting stuck on an hour delay on 35W, they stayed after closing time so we could get the canoe back to them. They didn't charge us extra for arriving late. We would definitely recommend them!

Every encounter with employees has been very pleasant. Very knowledgeable when I asked about Kayaks. Bought hiking gear here. Lost my bike wheel lock pin when I traveled. Asked where I could get one and they just gave me one for free. Lifetime outdoor enthusiasts and customer.
