My favorite place in the whole world! I recommend it to everyone, among nature all this technology is impressive the contrast it offers us, on my next trip to Puerto Rico I will visit it again!
Great science facility with a lot of historical meaning. Ask for the VIP visit. And really, you have to visit at least one in a lifetime.
Far away from city, and it's not that enough.
By the way, the largest one is currently in China
awesome place. Must visit. Beautiful visitor center and view of the observatory. Truly a stunning site to see.
It is well organized, clean and you learn a lot about it.
Only one word describing this is WOW! If you go to Pureto Rico this is a must see but drive up there with caution, the roads are full of alot of sharp turns and steep hills that you can't see over the top of.
A true modern marvel. Seeing it in person is worth it!
Cool observatory but don t want to be there in a thunderstorm unless you want to get super tased
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Found all their info from their website to be accurate
SAD, OH, SO SAD! It is now gone. What a spectacular experience my wife and I had while visiting the telescope in 2017. It was on my bucket list. Now, it's no more What a tremendous loss.
Love it; it was also where they filmed the James Bond movie.
Fantastic place if you are looking for knowledge of the universe, the people that works here give you amazing information, the view is just breathtaking!!..
Really exciting and super interesting place to visit, it's really huge and the employees are very helpful and very nice!
Took the VIP tour and got to see the control room and other things that you wouldn't have been able to see. Loved it.
RIP Arecibo Observatory. It is now completely destroyed, but it served well the interests of humankind.
This is something that is a must see. This site has been included in several films. Very interesting and a good place to just walk around. It is in a rain forest and rain forest means rain.
Great little museum. Interesting place. Even my wife and teenage kids liked it.
A fascinating place to visit. Movies such Contact and James Bond's Golden Eye filmed some scenes here.
I love the tours are very excellent, the bad thing is the road in the mountains, well that doesn't matter
Beautiful place that still carry an important scientific legacy. Worth visiting if you are into science. VIP tour was the best
Excellent place to learn more about scientific research and more if it is in our homeland Borinquen. The most powerful Telescope in the world and it's here in Puerto Rico
It's $12 to get in and they have a bunch of fun little science activites for kids in the museum part and then you can go outside and see the satellite dish which is super cool!
I'd give it 5 stars, but I died here a few times playing the N64 game Goldeneye.
Very interesting and informative. Visitor center is nice, make sure you watch the movie. If using Google Maps to get there and you're not in a Jeep, avoid the 6xxx roads. Google Maps directed us up this road that got narrower and steeper until it was just a rutted gravel path. We had to backtrack and take a different route. Looking at a satellite view later I saw that the "road" would have gotten us there had we been driving something AWD with more ground clearance.
The Observatory is a must see for anyone visiting, especially if science interests you. Understanding the work that has gone into this place and the scale of the telescope's size are both awe inspiring.
Great place to visit and learn the history and scientific studies being performed.
I liked the history and the awesomeness of the radar
A place that you should not miss visitor write it down on your 100% recommended wish list
This was my first time using a car service. It was with the money! About $40 from JFK to Brooklyn. Waaaaaaay better service than Lyft and much cheaper too! My flight was almost an hour early and they didn t give me a hard time about picking me up early. I simply emailed them while I was on the plane. Driver called and told me right where to meet him. They text you the driver s name and car info. My driver was nice enough to make a quick stop for me as well. Great customer service. Which is a surprise in NYC.
Very informed personell. Kind staff that is happy to be there.
I haven't been there yet, but in appearance the photos seem to be very cool and beautiful
Wasn't that great of a tour for the money. Could have been longer. Maybe more on the history. Overall it was good though. Fun time, and the tour guide was pleasant.
You will enjoy the drive, the observatory, and the countryside view
A great place to visit if you have any interest in astronomy or scientific research.
You will see the most spectacular telescope in the world. Very steep walk up. If you are a Senior and have difficulty walking up all these stairs. Ask the guard at the door if they can drive you up. They are very courteous and will send you up in a car. The whole family loved this place.
Impressive collector dish. Pictures do not do the size of this dish justice. Beautiful scenery and very impressive center with informational movies playing in both Spanish and English. Plenty of hands on activities. Finger foods snack bar with extremely reasonable food prices.
One point of advice, the walk to the dish may be too challenging for those in poor to fair cardio health. They do have a free ride to the top if you ask. Parking is down on lower level and it is more than 500 steps to the dish.
A great place to visit and something you can see from space - check out Google maps! We took the VIP tour and went down to the dish ... close enough to touch it. The regular tour included a short movie and 5 min. talk plus as much time as we wanted on the observation deck (see photo). There is a snack bar on the deck. There is a museum with space artifacts and demonstrations ... nice for young and old. FOREWARNED: there is quite a hill from the parking lot to the visitors center. You can ask for a pick up; if you have any doubts, I'd advise calling for a pick up. We drove there and the roads were well marked but we did get "disoriented" getting back ... GPS was unavailable.
It was well worth it!
Must see place in PR. Fascinating view, whole structure is colossal. Theres also a small science exhibit. Interesting "thing-with-the-planet distances-and-sizes-from-the-Sun" thing while you walk from the parking lot. I give this place 5 hungry US tourists eating next to the observatory out of 5.
All webpages and phone line are stating open mon-sunday. Fly down from Colorado, drive to the observatory. Only to find in closed Tuesday morning. Very rude management and guard who looked at us like we should have known better. Best part is they know the webpage and phone line are wrong but fail to do anything about it. Thanks for ruining the experience. Was looking forward to seeing this for months.
Family enjoyed our visit. Go with the VIP tour it is well worth it.
The largest satellite in the world, a place to visit and learn much more than we can know about its function.
It's the worlds largest radio telescope, built between two mountains, that we use to send messages to Aliens, what is not to like?! Words cannot fully explain just exactly how large it is. The museum section could use a bit of life, but it is still a great time.
Really worth the visit to see a big part of science here in the Caribbean. We did the two-part VIP tour. For only $35 a person it was worth it for two science lovers.
Great info, great experience! Highly recommended for all science minded people! :)
I give it only 4 stars because I really wanted to see aliens with backward knees. But it s totally worth it.
Very interesting place, definitely recommend taking the VIP tour, you'll get to see the operation room along with a few places.
A very educational experience! I also found it relaxing looking out over the surounding mountains and looking at the beautiful plants.
Impressive place of forced visit. You will find the largest observatory in the northern hemisphere, with all its history told in a brief presentation in English or Spanish.
To access the observatory you must climb a very steep hill. If you have a baby cart and you do not see yourself with strength, the safety car will offer to ride and get off.
It was pretty lame, Not worth the trip or the price.
A must-see for science buffs and even movie-buffs! Amazing radio telescope nestled in the hills of Arecibo, PR. There are some museum exhibits, a short film, and then you can see the huge bowl of the telescope. Largest one in the world!!!
Very cool place! Don't skip the video that explains how it came to be. The drive there is mountainous & beautiful. It's quite a walk up from the parking lot to the entrance - up several steps & then a paved incline. They have a little cafe with snacks and drinks on the observation deck.
Cool place to visit. The museum had great artifacts and information. We went on the Operations VIP tour, which was interesting but not awesome. Getting there on the twisty, hilly roads was a fun bonus.
Extraordinary especially not to be missed if you pass in front. Educational exhibition as interesting for adults as for children.
