Bucket list place to go and spend the day. The VIP tours are worth it. Not many visitors.
An interesting place to go. Good introduction movie and short tour guide. Can be a long drive for a short stay. You would want to be very interested in the science.
I drove all the way there on two track roads to find out they are closed til January due to construction. Many signs to guide you but not one saying they were closed!
I am always impressed by the capacity of the telescope and the scientists.
This is something really cool to see. Its massive and a great experience overall. I've been dreaming of coming her since I was a kid and it was amazing to finally see that dream come to fruition. However, as cool as this place was, I do have a word of warning for anyone planning to go. This place is in some very weird mountains. The roads leading to it would make a roller coaster jealous and if you're not careful, you will get sick. Another warning is for anyone planning to bring their grandparents or anybody with knee problems. After parking the car, you must climb a long set of stairs and a very steep hill in order to get to the visitor center. The view is worth it but keep these things in mind when planning out your events for the day because this place will tire you out. Other than that, I hope everyone that decides to go because of this review has as much fun there as I did.
Wonderful engineering feat. Still working radio telescope. Worth visiting. Movie Golden Eye shooting done at this location.
Absolutely amazing experience to see how large it really is. The new visitors center is also really cool and immersive. While we had a pretty long drive, it's definitely worth it.
As a note, there's a pretty big hill you need to walk up which has a sidewalk and steps, but some may not be able to make it all the way. Be sure to ask the security guards at the bottom of the steps for a ride if you have issues going up long flights of stairs!
Excellent place very interesting and good place to visit more often and good place to learn
I am a nerd for space and movies. The fact that this observatory meets both of my nerdy requirements is outstanding. First of this place is simply amazing in that it helps in the study of space and our atmosphere. Science it is fact. Secondly, this place was used in the James Bond Movie Golden Eye. Great movie and great use of a natural location. I suggest coming here just to see the beautiful mountains that surround the dish built of a natural sink hole.
Very interesting! English and Spanish friendly. Extremely informative. A must visit, especially for James Bond fans!
Excelent destination, well worth the drive and climb up the hill.
It is just as I imagined, had to see the place that sent the message in 1974.
Amazing place, entrance fee is not cheap but totally worth it. You have to walk up a bit so be prepared. The views are amazing and you can take fabulous pictures there! The intro movie is also worth watching. They have a few exhibits which are interesting, but most of it is geared towards kids. I was there twice and would definitely go again!!
It was great kids love it and we enjoyed all the information and view.
The drive up is rough. Lots of pot holes, blind corners, and the road has barely enough room for two cars to pass. But it is totally worth it to see this amazing feat of engineering. The walk from the parking lot to the visitor's center is a bit of a hike.
Impressive radio frequency receiver. Ideal for going with children and arousing scientific and astronomical curiosity
Awesome experience. Website stated that a food truck was on site, but it was really just a deep fryer located out back. Food was palatable. Tours vary based on the type of work going on during the day so be sure to check on tour availability before making the drive.
Ther they wanted to ripoff charging us for show a total feliur technology ist in bad shape its dangerous cust with out of you knowledge they exposure on extring radiations from microwaves signals and also they like you pay $ 12.00 to get you sumited so a strong graduations expositions and damaged yours DNA permanently I had a cousing work there and death for extraing and unknow cancer in the neck!
Its sad for Astro world. One of Greatest Radio Telescopes of all times. Thank you for Discoveries and Building of this magnificent Human creation!
The Arecibo Observatory is a must see when visiting Puerto Rico. We took the VIP Tour and it was so worth every penny! I just wish they had more at the souvenir shop to buy. Another thing off my bucket list
The Arecibo radio telescope on the island of Puerto Rico the largest radio telescope For now in the world a wonderful Colossus, however, to be seen because for those who can breathtaking spectacle
As other reviews mentioned, there is only one vantage point of the telescope. This is just outside of the museum. The museum is small and the guide we had didn't know much more than what was on the signs.
It is a charming place, if you don't like science by the time you are there you will love it. PR must give more promotion to this place, that it becomes tourist without losing its functions.
Great learning experience, took the VIP tour and got to see the control room.
A bit remote but quite an experience. Lots of science going on which might not be a #1 pick for a tropical vacation but my nerdy side kicked in and it was fabulous a must do for families/people into science and movies. The drive there was also nice and exotic!
Really neat, breathtaking views of the dish and tons of history and information available on the tour.
last imminent impending impact of a meteorite on the planet march for the 14/03/2014 true or false verifies please thank you
Amazing. Hopefully they'll continue to get the funding they need to keep the place up.
I have wanted to come to this place ever since I could remember. So glad I finally made the trip. They had a movie that talks about the observatory. Then you go out back and they give you a presentation mentioni8 a lot of the specs of the observatory. Ending the tour with a question and answer session. It is an amazing view and unbelievable man made object. Highly recommend coming to see this engineering marvel.
Cool place to learn about plants and the Observatory and there is a tour you should take because its very interesting.
A great place to visit, the site has a very nice set of meteors, labs with lots of information and the radio telescope is really impressive. Guided tours are on both English and Spanish.
Very interesting place, you learn a lot, it's good for both adults and children
ale to musia o waln
xD
It's a great learning experience. A little pricy, but worth it.
I went on Lunar Night It was an awesome experience. The place was full so the only thing that I didn t like was the long waiting lines to see thru the Telescopes. But during the wait, the staff explain us very interesting things about the planeta we where going to see
Nice place for science lovers, the visitors area is short but unforgettable. I reccomend it.
Very good organization of all events. If you want to see Saturn, the moon, etc. live, I recommend it.
If you are even remotely interested in science, astronomy, James Bond, science fiction, etc. this world famous dish is a must visit. However, be sure to ensure it is still open for tours as a main support cable recently broke. Also, be aware of steep walk from parking to facility.
The Arecibo Observatory is an excellent place that you should visit with your family. When you are on the terrace of the Visitor Center you may see Rita la Boa relaxed.
Very cool to see this still active radio telescope. Beautiful and huge in size. Historical discoveries, and still working on new research.
The path to reach the Observatory is just amazing. It is full of educational things all over the place (even an asteroid!). The gift shop is pretty cool too!
I love this place !!!!!!!! I went when i was a Kid i want to go !!!! Again !!!! Soon !!!
Amazing to see this gigantic satellite. If you are really into science, the stars and planets, you will love this experience. Then I would suggest the VIP tour where they take you into the labs where you can see the equipment, as well as a closer look at the dish. Be prepared for a walk up the mountain side including a few flights of stairs. They do offer shuttle service on a schedule if this is a problem.
It was built in the town of Arecibo, PR (1960). The radio telescope was the largest and largest telescope until they built the one in China. They have an exhibition area, a small auditorium where they give a movie and in the end the radio telescope can be seen from a terrace. It is an educational and family place for everyone to enjoy.
Possibly the scariest drive you've ever done. The place is amazing.
It was worth the visit to see the this large telescope. We had to turn off the cellphones when we entered the parking lot area and had to walk up the hills to get to the visitor center.
.
The introductory movie did a good job of explaining the history and the functions of the telescope. After the movie, the guide took us to the view point where she explained more about the telescope and answered questions. They also had small exhibits about the space, galaxy, and telescopes.
Please!! please!! pleaseeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! Rebuild!!!! This is history!! No way do we close a chapter on something that has through the decades proven to be a well rounded education center and even more, something known globally!!!! #rebuildTheAreciboObservatory
Impresive place, amazing structure and an interesting toure to learn a little more of science
Fascinating observatory with beautiful views and interesting museum.
Very interesting and educational. They must provide transportation to go up to the facilities especially for the elderly. As for the price, if you lower it a little, possibly more people can visit the place.
Educational place to take kids if the like the astronomy and science. Just be careful in the road is bumping.
RIP Arecibo radio telescope. The years of memories and knowledge you helped humanity gain will be cherished. You will be dearly missed by science. You were the largest radio telescope until just a few years ago and soon you will be no more. I will think of you the next time I am in Puerto Rico.
Old and dangerous. Being torn down as of November 19, 2020.
Awesome place, if you are going for tour, highly recommend the control room tour.
Super cool! Learned a lot! The roads to get here, however... Not as much fun!
It's a beautiful drive. Unfortunately, it was closed pending engineering inspection after the earthquake.
RIP to one of the man made wonders of the world. Feeling sad for the loss.
