Impressive old building (monument) mostly renovated...Polite and helpful personnel....with a must visit cafe bar....Great location also.....only minus it's a bit pricey...

Great place for a drink or two, friendly bar man and a great atmosphere

It is very cozy there, everything is in retro style, really cool to be. Food also fine and tasty and well cared for.

The friendliest bar staff in town. Each one has been working there for at least 15 years and they all have great stories to tell. There are literally over 100 pictures on the walls of each film or movie star that has visited the bar. The drinks are a bit expensive, but the great atmosphere makes it all acceptable.

Huge shower room, very comfortable bed and very cool decor. Great location.

Wonderful dining room and really good food. Service is very friendly and fun.

Expensive, rooms do not match the one shown on the booking (I booked 20m2 and I received 11), manager unfriendly and not flexible.

Great location, hotel is situated between the artistic side of the city, and the more commercial end. A nice range of galleries, museums and the famous Heineken experience, all within reasonable walking distance. On the other side of the hotel there are many good restaurants, shops and coffee shops (if that's your thing).

The restaurant in the hotel was very good. Expensive, however, the food was extremely good. The bar was also very nice, a good range of cocktails and very friendly staff.

Rooms here are nice, but very small, which in fairness is what you expect in the this city. Rooms are cleaned daily to a good standard. The shower and bath were very good, the restroom was actually proportionally very big considering the size of the bedrooms. TV available in the room, with several BBC channels and English speaking news channels. WIFI was very weak in our room, and required a sign in on each use.

Unfortunately, actions by hotel staff leave me unable to recommend this hotel. Money in excess of 200 euros was taken from an account with no prior warning. At the time of this charge, we had no outstanding bills with the hotel. When we asked the staff why this had been taken, we were told this was to cover costs in the event that we ran up a bill at the bar or the restaurant.

In conclusion, a lovely place to stay, just be aware that this hotel will take money with no warning, so ensure you have a few hundred euros to spare in the account that you pay the deposit with.

The location of the hotel, the rooms are very good. The prices are a bit high due to the central location but normal to Amsterdam standards.

I went to the attached restaurant and enjoyed a lobster noodle. Luxurious location, excellent service, family atmosphere. In front of the building, a beautiful fountain. Wide offer of transportation.

Prime location, many highlights within walking distance! Spacious beautiful rooms, friendly staff and good service. For example, we were able to use the hotel's bicycles, and everyone was very helpful, friendly and welcoming.

Beds are comfy. Bathroom's a bit small. Depending on your room you may end up looking onto an enclosed courtyard. But the rooms are fine and a decent size. Well situated for touristy trips into the centre of town.

Situated in the heart of Liedisplein this unique hotel is walking distance to multiple tram stations, bars, restaurants, shopping and local sites. Many of the rooms available are larger than average and individually decorated for a special experience every time. Rooms with balconies are available. Private banquet room available for provate events and there is a restaurant and bar attached to the hotel. Each room has a nespresso coffee maker, mini-bar and the bathrooms have bathtub/shower combinations. Bed are very comfortable. There are elevators to guest rooms and conversation areas. Hotel is situated on a canal with some rooms having this view. Friendly helpful staff and hotel is reasonably priced.

Stayed there for 7 weeks on business trip. Amazing hotel which really cares about their guests. Any request or problem was handled immediately by very nice staff and they made sure to compensate any possible discomfort like ongoing roadworks by offering free breakfast or a bottle of vine. Rooms are bit smaller, but very nice and clean and equipped with everything you may need. Location of the hotel is perfect. Just a few steps away from plenty of bars and resteurants where you always find a place to relax after busy day in the office. I can only recommend this amazing place.

Good location, close to town as well as Vondelpark which is worth a visit. Room a bit small for the price.

Beautiful hotel, the rooms are very comfortable, the staff is great and always there to help you. We have absolutely nothing to complain about this place. When we booked the room we asked for a room with a nice view and they delivered it, we loved our stay there.

Very friendly staff and the hotel is in a top location. In my opinion, however, the hotel is not worth 4 stars. It squeaks and creaks on all sides, making everything very obedient.

Hotel is located in a very calm and quiet neighborhood with the exceptional views from hotel. The food and ambience is good with a hotel having its own bar. Also the room are good with brilliant housekeeping. You will definitely gonna love your stay in here. Approximately 1KM away from all the tourist destinations. The hotel is very nice, the hotel is great, there is a bar in the lobby of the hotel, excellent service, note there are very old rooms and newer rooms, poor maintenance, I was in the winter heating did not work in the room so they sent me a small radiator that barely Warmed up.

The breakfast is not what it was! Unworthy of a hotel of this class. More buffet .. no choice or so you have to pay! A simple black tray that wants class & classic in which it is impossible to eat. And unfortunately for us the same lil dej several days in a row ... at 20 it hurts ... and not refundable more.
I strongly advise against Too bad the rooms are not bad and the hotel well placed ... but it spoils everything especially when you sell a few months ago a buffet breakfast and you can not see the color. Ultra disappointed.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The food is very mediocre, the food came cold. and OMG, I have never seen a place being this stingy with sauce. Price/quality = -1. 20 euros for a mediocre burger and fries and 1ml of ketchup.

I would choose to go eat at Burgerking instead.

As the dipstick rises, even the smallest defects become large. A 4-star hotel cannot have a double bed with separate beds. It can't help but have a shower in the bath (and small too). One of the beds creaks so much that it wakes you up in the middle of the night. Very dated furniture. Very good and plentiful breakfast. We travel a lot and this is definitely not 4 stars

Stayed 3 days. Room has been completely redone, as others also. Tastefully decorated and well designed to take advantage of the smaller space. Restaurant is historic and dinner was delicious. All staff are friendly and very helpful. Will stay here again.

Amazing hotel and felt safe. The staff is amazing pleasent and accommodating. The bartender and restaurant staff give 5 star service. If you are traveling to Amsterdam stay at this hotel!! It also happens to be convienently located near ALL!

In this Bar u get profesionally mixed cocktails, they have a wide choice
of premium spirits (rum, cognac, gin, vodka and whiskey) and beer. Also the snacks are ideal for a bar, bitterballen, burger and so on.
But the best at Bar American is the staff! The crew is experienced and relaxed, friendly and always remember ur favourite drink! Its great to see a competent team working with fun and joy. I'll come back.

Classy funky traditional hotel but also a nice place to visit for just drinks like cocktails or wine inside or on their nice terrace. They also serve nice little snacks to go with those. Very relaxed. Nice staff too.

Great Hotel, nice staff. Asked for a better room and got it without hesitation for the same price. Went there for a business trip. Breakfast on the room was BIG and TASTY! Recommended!!

Allthough i just dropped by for a coffee with a friend, i have to say that i am quite impressed. The ambiance is just amazing.

WE STAYED AT THIS HOTEL FOR TWO NIGHTS ,WHEN WE GOT TO OUR ROOM ,IT WAS OK BUT NO VIEW,SO I CALLED THE FRONT DESK AND ASK THEM IF THEY CAN ACCOMMODATE US ,THEY SAID FOR AN EXTRA $150 SO I SAID I JUST WANT TO CHANGE THE ROOM TO SEE SOME DAY LIGHT THEY SAID NO,WELL I SAID TO MY WIFE ,ITS OK,BUT WHEN WE WENT TO CHECK OUT THEY TOLD ME I OWE THEM FOR A PHONE CALL MADE FROM MY ROOM ,I SAID WE DID NOT MAKE THE CALL ,THE GIRL ACTUALLY THEN CALLED THE PEOPLE TO SEE IF I WAS LYING AFTER 20 MINUTES OF ARGUMENT THEY FINALLY WAIVED THE CALL ,THEY ARE SO MONEY HUNGRY AND NOT AT ALL ACCOMMODATING ,IF I WERE YOU THERE ARE MANY OTHER HOTELS AROUND WITH NICER STAFF. OR PERHAPS THE MANAGER AND TWO OFFICE GIRLS SHOULD JUST TAKE SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE LESSONS

Hotel is ok, sometimes a little taken, room large, food could be better. It's noisy. Although you can close the windows, but my A / C just wanted to heat; maybe not. Dining room is nice.

The worst hotel I have Ever stayed at. Very small rooms. I booked a 20m2 room but were given a room of 10m2 max. Inacceptable behaviour. Would you pay EUR 350 per Night for this 10 (maybe 12 M2) - If not, don t stay at the American Amsterdam Hotel

Fantastic hotel with fabulous views from balcony, love this place and come back time and time again!

Service for clients is good ; but not good for their staff and trainees and child labour.
My daughter began as a trainee and she was under 18 years old ;
and they let her to work in their restaurant for 10 hours (more than 50 hour p.w.)and sometimes she was not allowed to go to toilet and that was under supervision of Johan ,wisly and the restaurant management. They denied her tips though she worked more than all of them.
