The American Hotel, Amsterdam Review

Since the old menu has changed something magical happened in the kitchen. The food is honest with the highest quality and that - you can taste. I had a pasta stuffed with delicious special sausage from italy. served on burrata and grean peas. Second course was a rip eye which was super tender and serves with truffel flavored fries. Last course was a creme brulee twisted by the spanish sous chef into a creme catalan - i will recommend to anyone not to miss this dessert
. Not less to mention that the service was very friendly and knowledgeable, always with a smile. I had a great time!

The best hotel in Amsterdam!! Very nice, clean and the breakfast is fantastic

Last weekend had a very nice stay at this hotel.
We received a friendly welcome and immediately felt welcome.
Super nicely decorated, spacious and clean room.
Everything was still new.
And the bed ...... was wonderful! I could have stayed in it a bit longer.
Location is great! Mega central.

Perfect location to see all the must do sites. It is right across the street from the water taxi, super convenient.

My friends and I spent 2 nights here in November. Loved our room-133. We had a beautiful stained glass window. The hotel was under construction because they are becoming a Hard Rock. We were not impositioned whatsoever by this. This is our 2nd stay here. We came back for the great breakfast, friendly staff and central location. We walked everywhere from the hotel- shopping galore and even home from the Xtra Cold Ice Bar. We booked a combo canal cruise and Ice Bar through Viator. Both were great!!

A hotel with a very beautiful historical building, excellent service and a standard menu

Nice place to stay, but difficult to find a parking spot for the car (maybe unlucky cause the road behind the hotel was closed)

Only advise: If you book via booking.com, do the reservation at least 3-4 days before the booked time.

The Hotel entrance is on the riverside of the building not as google maps navigates you to the restaurant entrance

Beautiful! Rooms very clean. Cafe Americain gets busy on a night or for lunch on a weekend, so booking recommended. Staff helpful and attentive.

Great location, bar avd restaurants are nice. Room deco is very good, just the rooms are noisy, can hear showers and loo flushing and the complimentary toiletries are very poor

One of the most beautiful places in Amsterdam to drink coffee. Art Nouveau tile tableau on the facade, interior with beautiful lamps. Operation in style, it can't go on.

We were very impressed by the service and presentation of the American Hotel, from the first step we took in the lobby. The room was cleaned, organized and bed comfortable. The close proximity to Leidseplein and the museum, made it the perfect location. The inclusive breakfast was amazing.

Beautiful American style hotel with a grand art deco restaurant. Nice rooms with big and comfortable beds. Friendly service and great choice for breakfast. Very complete mini bar as well. Not 100% spotless clean (dusty under the curtains) and also not the most modern rooms, but comfortable and quiet. Highly recommended

A beautiful hotel with very friendly service great rooms and really central location. The restaurant and the bar are also highly recommended! The only problem is finding a parking space nearby, but we have always been lucky.

A traditional and nice hotel with a long history, I would like to stay once. I'm just watching from the front of the fountain.

Went for coffee in the Resturant at 4pm but wasn't allowed to enter because of a number of reasons; staff change over, service too slow ( told by the waiter desk) cannot serve because getting ready for dinner. REALLY ! We not allowed in because one of our party was black! Seriously, I know what it feels like and this place is institutionallly racist.
If youre brave go there and prove me wrong. Or go anyway so they finally accept all people.

Nice but different entrepeneurs on the barsite you cannot eat a snack or have a cup of tea only in the restaurant

We had a wonderful stay here! The room was quiet and very comfortable. The entire staff was helpful, welcoming, and friendly. The location of the hotel can't be beat.

Drunk a nice but expensive wine in the bar. Relaxed atmosphere.

My mother went to dinner with her sister at the Americain on Tuesday evening. Unfortunately it was disappointing from the starter to the dessert.
My aunt also got an Irish coffee, not even a manege came along which would be very normal with all these complaints.
Shame such a wonderful company.

This is a great hotel in a great location. The breakfast was good and I loved the balcony in me room.

This hotel is excellent by all standards and deserves to be accommodated again. It is close to everything. Taxi is not only a tram for long distances. Trams can be taken from any authorized sales center such as bookstores and small shops.
I recommend staying in it for their high credibility and comfort ..

Having traveled a bit I have to say this is very nice for a European hotel. The rooms have a bit more elbow room than you usually find and they were modern and had all the amenities. The concierge was nice enough to give me a bag of ice for my foot. If smaller older hotels aren t your thing as a traveling American, you will be comfortable here.

Really nice hotel. We spent a couple of nights here and had an amazing time. All staff were really friendly, our room was very nice, well equipped and clean. We will definitively stay here on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Centrally located on canal within easy reach of museums, restaurants and bars. An impressive historic building with Art Deco style and a beautiful restaurant. Room was specious with decent facilities, clean and airy. Bed was very comfortable. All reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Just that the wait time was a little too long. Our quick meal in the Bar Americain was fantastic: well presented and well priced.
We recommend this hotel without hesitation.

The best hotel in Amsterdam. Beautiful rooms and pure hospitality. During this COVID period they also provide a safe place to stay in Amsterdam. They have the hygiene in order. Hand gels are available everywhere, mouth masks when you go out the door. I would say stay here when you go to Amsterdam!

Drink in Bar American, classic! Great cocktails, long drinks, whiskeys, etc. Great service; polite, cheeky, ad-brake, but above all service-oriented.

Perfect choice! Great room with a balcony on the canal. Loved the area, convenient to all transportation, But, the best was the staff! Concierge David was personable and very helpful... even before we arrived via email. Everyone from the front desk to room service were pleasant

Good hotel with a fine atmosphere and good location

I've had a truly pleasant way stay here twice now, and although a little on the expensive side, it's a nice hotel with great rooms, perfect location and many of the rooms have balcony with a view of the square outside.

Ambiance is very, very nice. Food was good. Service not so good (inattentive). Right high priced.

staffs are friendly and helpful. we arrived early morning and they arrange to give us a room we could take rest after 16 hours travel.

There is no negative comments that we can share with anyone that has the intention to plan a trip to the American hotel, location is perfect for getting around all major attractions restaurants bars pubs shops and transport, the changes More

Irregular establishment. Excellent location. Friendly staff but limited to English and I guess Dutch. Small room and poorly endowed. Shower uncomfortable. Bad value for money.

We had a great stay here at the American Hotel. A great location, it's across from the canal, a beautiful view.
Definatley worth to pay the extra $30 euros a day for a room with a balcony.
The hotel is very close to shops, restaurants, cafe's, Vondelpark.
Our room was clean and spacious.
The staff at the front desk were great, very helpful.

Pleasant experience overall. Had a very nice bar with a cozy atmosphere, and our room had a decent view over the canal. Loud party boats, poor elevator service and housekeeping waking us up despite a do not disturb sign brought this stay down to 3 stars for me.

OK place in an excellent location. Rooms were a bit tired but big and clean. Bar is quite small. Reception staff were very helpful and even printed our boarding passes.

Super nice reception by Delano Prince, very helpful, handsome and friendly. This made the visit top, tasty lunch risotto lobster definitely recommended. Nice place with a view at the window, with a view of Leidseplein. Worth repeating!
