Got married here on the back lawn a few years ago. Everything was done exceptionally well. The Sunday brunches keep us coming back every year. In my opinion, it's the best food and value in the Hudson Valley

Absolutely beautiful place. I would have loved to stay up there longer. The military personnel were so helpful and professional. The place itself was a beautiful place to see. The Church was beyond beautiful to sit in and see and it was the perfect day for a wedding. The only problem was we were chased out because they planned 4 weddings all on the same day. The only down side was the poor timing because I would have loved to stayed and explored West Point.

Horrible. Miserable service, incredibly overpriced, and poorly managed. Tried to make a reservation for brunch and was forced to wait in a line anyway for hours. Would not tell my worst enemy to eat here.

Top notch 5 star historic hotel at WestPoint, NY. Management takes pride in everything from laundry in the well-appointed rooms to the fabulous Mother's Day Brunch, the drinks in the bar, to the exquisite service and food in the several restaurants and bars in the establishment. Definitely worth the visit.

What a charming and delightful experience. We went for lunch to the MacArthur Riverview Restaurant. Both in our party got the fish and chips. Very tasty and fresh. Only caveat was there were only two pieces of somewhat small fried fish in the serving. But nevertheless still very good. We also each ordered the onion soup gratinee. It was delicious. Our waitress Jessidy was superb. Very very attentive, kind, and engaging. We will definitely be back! Overall Grade A-.

The Thayer has really stepped up their game recently. Their lobby, lobby pub, back porch bar, and really just all of it is excellent. Having a relaxing drink near the lobby fireplace is a winter must!

Currently on the keto diet and the restaurant here was more than willing to do everything to accomadate my needs. The burger was great that I ordered with bacon and no bun. Reasonable portions they do tend to overcook compared to the medium I ordered, it had no pink but I'm not a big pink pan and I don't want a hockey puck either. The side salad was kinda mediocre but what do you want from a side salad. The salad my fiance ordered as a meal tho looked quite filling healthy and decadent. My mother thought the drinks were great and service was A+.

I attended the Sunday brunch at the Thayer for a family party. The food was great and the location is beautiful. My one complaint is that the service was poor. Our waitress barely came around to tables to serve the coffee or mimosas.

This review is ONLY for MacArthur's restaurant. Yhe service was sub-par. Our waiter for our group of 16 seemed annoied we were even there. The food is way overpriced for what you get. I expected much more from a place like this and with the prices you pay.

The restaurant at the Thayer hotel has a nice formal setting, and most of the food is good but I think slightly highly priced. The menu is fairly limited, but they do have an assortment of all different types of basic American Cuisine. We arrived before the dining room was open, and so we had a drink at the bar. The setting is lovely with large overstuffed leather sofas, but the drinks come at a very high price. We much prefer to both eat and drink at the Zulu Lounge on the roof of the Thayer Hotel.

Nice rooms with a great view over the river. The costumer service was honestly the best part. The staff go above and beyond to ensure you have a pleasant stay. It has a very old world and histoically feel. We loved it.

A wannabe 3-4 star hotel that can only provide 2 star service. Hotel room's closet was build in such a way that if you use regular clothes hangers you cannot close the closet door. Maid left her cleaning cart in the hallway near outside our room all night. Hotel management does realize that a 4 star experience requires them to walk the floors and check on the staff everyday. When checking in the staff did not offer bell service and our room on the third floor had no elavator access. The restaurant staff while pleasant have apparently had no formal training. Only a 2 star experience.

Historic hotel, good view, nice location good staff. Rooms are slightly smaller since it's historic, and there is a facility fee not mentioned for basic WiFi and facility use (it's automatically charged) whether or not you use it. Otherwise, good food and large area for multiple events

Ambiance was fine, but the food was, to be kind, awful. I really tried to like it, and made positive faces to the folks I was dining with but really, the wine we had tasted like chlorine and the buffet was dry, chewy and have me the runs.

We usually stay at the Thayer when we visit West Point for a show or a getaway weekend. We enjoy the history and luxury. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. If you stay between April and November, spend an evening at Zulu Time, the rooftop bar. It has a laid-back feel, beautiful views, an excellent bar-food menu, and friendly bartenders.

WE HAD A ROOM ON THE THIRD FLOOR FACING THE RIVER. WE EXPECTED THE NOISE FROM THE PASSING RAILROAD CARS BUT WERE DISPLEASED WITH THE LOUD AND RAUCOUS NOISE COMING FROM THE OUTDOOR TERRACE BAR AS LATE AS 230 AM.A CALL TO THE FRONT DESK ALERTED SECURITY AND WITHIN 15 MINUTES THE NOISE QUIETED DOWN. SOMETHING FOR YOU TO CONSIDER FOR THE FUTURE.

We visited MacArthur's Riverview Restaurant in the Thayer Hotel for lunch on our way to Boston for some college tours. To our surprise there were very few people in the restaurant. But that did not stop them from treating us like royalty! We were given a table with splendid riverfront views. While waiting for our meal we ventured out onto the patio area to admire the snow-covered vista. The meal was delicious and service excellent. You will pay a few extra bucks to dine here but if you want to kick back, relax and enjoy, this is the spot.

The Thayer is THE place to stay when you re in West Point! Seriously, if you want to experience the history and the glory of this small military town, stay at the Thayer! Each room is dedicated to an officer who has served in the military, the walls are adorned with their photos and accomplishments and the view of the Hudson from the windows is breath-taking!

The Thayer Hotel is clearly a historic location. As a wedding attendee at the Thayer Hotel, I thought the furnishings were rich in history and the service was decent. If you ever find yourself in West Point, this may be the nicest hotel near the base. Although it does not provide any modern amenities (at least at a normal price point), the hotel provides you with the basic necessities. What you will really enjoy the most, however, are the real and unique historical artifacts that decorate each room. Be sure to stop, and take it them in.

The Thayer Hotel is a cornerstone at West Point. ...

The Thayer Hotel is a cornerstone at West Point. While they do many things well, there is some work to be done.
Check-in was handled efficiently as pre-planned.
Valet Parking was an unexpected good option; they reacted quickly when we needed the car.
Room was billed as an Executive Super Suite with a price to match; unfortunately it fell short of its billing and expected value, as follows:
o Only 1 bathroom, with access only through the King bedroom; great for a family, but not necessarily for multiple families; fortunately we were roommates at WP and so made it work. Access SHOULD have been through the common central room.
o Tub/shower was a hazard; there were NO nonskid strips on the bottom, AND no grab bar for safety; also, no soap dish or any place to put soap or any other shower accessories; shampoo and conditioner on the wall were a nice touch
o No door on the King bedroom for privacy
o Door on Murphy bedroom, BUT it locked from the OUTSIDE!?!?!?! People sleeping there could get locked in!!
o Only one dresser in the three rooms
o Door stops on the floor were a foot tripping hazard; AND in the middle room the door passed easily OVER the door stop, rendering it useless.
o Must not offer laundry service as there was no bag or order slip in the closet
o The advertised modern conveniences and amenities eluded us; most noticeable was the lack of electrical outlets featured everywhere in most contemporary motels/hotels; fortunately I brought my own power strip to handle the computer(s); camera battery chargers; phone chargers; etc.
o The suite is definitely NOT, ideal for one to six guests as advertised. That is especially true if all six people were seniors tripping over each other to get to the sole bathroom in the middle of the night.
o Appreciated the power saving lighting, BUT never did really get the hang of how to use it properly. Still don t know how it is supposed to work.
o TVs were in the right places and were easy to use; watched a lot of the Olympics.
o Stupid me; didn t realize that I should have asked for a military discount; it wasn t offered, except in the fine print on the reservation confirmation.
o The maid service was severely underwhelming. She would show up mid-afternoon and ask if we needed anything. We had to ask for fresh towels and our waste buckets were never emptied and the suite was never vacuumed.
Zulu Time Lounge was great, though it wasn t open Monday evening when the hotel was fully booked on a major weekend!?!?!?!
Patton Bar was open Monday evening, BUT was staffed with only 1 bartender and 1 barback, again on a major weekend with a fully booked hotel. Some classmates went to Highland Falls and bought drinks to bring back.
Breakfast buffet in restaurant was good, but a little overpriced, IMHO. Only ate there one of three mornings.
Bell Hops were always available and provided excellent service when needed; and especially when they had to move lots of luggage up and down stairs to get to our Suite.

Now, to be fair, I am well aware of the history of The Thayer; it s renovation(s); the conversion of the Dorms (where my wife of 46 years stayed most of the 3 years we dated) to rooms and Executive Suites, etc. I clearly recall staying there over the years in a micro-sized room and burning my rear on a radiator when getting out of the shower in a 4 wide bathroom!!! It holds a very special place in our hearts, and is MUCH better than in the "good old days," but not an average of $450 a night s worth for an Executive Super Suite. Your self-ranking as a 4 star hotel is a little exaggerated, in our view. Some of the things we bring up can t reasonably be changed, but others can. Next time you review what you can do to improve The Thayer Hotel, please look at our comments.

Not too bad. Restaurant had a very limited menu but there are restaurants just outside the Thayer gate within walking distance. Second floor has a smell like a smokey smell but my room was fine. Bed was decent.

Back side of hotel has noisy roof top bar and train that goes by - only stay in a front room. $220 room had an additional $40 in resort fees and taxes ($260 total). Room service closes at 10pm and nothing is available to deliver. Valet parking is free. Drinks at the bar are about $9.
