They aren't good at diagnosis unless it's a cookie-cutter disease. That's disappointing.
But for plenty of people, I'm sure they do fine.

The nurses are sweet and caring -- doctors are a bit lackluster, yet nice.

The rooms do not have refrigerators, which is very problematic for people who are here for one week+ and who can substitute abhorrent hospital food to their child.
The food they deliver to children in room is horrible -- shameful.
It's worse or on level with a poorly funded public school cafeteria. Over cooked veggies, sugary fruit juices, microwave spaghetti, rubber chicken meat, salad chicken smells OLD, yucky macaroni and tasteless fruit.. It's endless.
An important part of recovery is nutrition. On paper maybe this hospital "food" is adequate, but in reality the child is not getting much nutrition.

Someone who heads Houston charities should send more funds to this hospital or provide the option of outside catering for a SMALL fee.

Went yesterday to get our 5 day old son checked at the ER. We got there at 830 pm and as soon as we signed in the staff immediately started attending our son. It's the best experience I have with the emergency room to date. I would recommend this hospital to all parents. Thank you to all the doctors for being so attentive. Would definitely not mind coming back again.

I just want to personally thank the person I called to book an appointment with. Antoinette from the West Tower location. She was exemplary in every way, and really went out of her way to help me after I called several times and spoke to other people about getting sports physicals. She was so empathetic w my situation and really cared. Also, Lorena at your Atascocita location. Thanks so much

it was a nightmare. I m highly offended that a children s hospital would show such disregard and concern for the well being of my CHILD. That was my first and last encounter with this hospital. Myself, husband and daughter arrived at the emergency room at 2:30am Jan 28, 2019. We were advised we were 3rd in the waiting list by 3am. My daughter was struggling to breath normally due to a horrible cough which was so bad she was vomiting and could not sleep. The nurses were so aware of how bad it was that when a nurse FINALLY escorted us to a room she said it took so long because she wanted to wait on a private room because they didn t want my daughter s cough to scare other people! First of all that is highly rude to say to ME and most importantly if you see how bad it is enough to take the action to prevent others from hearing it why wasn t it just as important to get her seen ASAP. Because the matter was beyond horrible, she should ve received faster care. Needless to say, we were in a private room waiting to be seen by the doctor from 3am-7am. A doctor only came in after my husband and I continued to complain that it s taking to long. When the doctor came in the room I expressed to her this has been going on over a month and my child s pediatrician recently put her on steroids but this is still awful because my child can t sleep because of the constant cough and vomiting. I literally said what would be the next step she needs something to help her breath. I wasn t aware of what the machines are called that assist kids with doing so but I continued to press and say some kind of machine to help her breath or something next because streroids have not cleared the sickness. She said no we will do an X-ray and see if she swallowed something but she doesn t need that. Continued to speed talk and ignored the fact that I wanted to better understand why she felt it was best. I immediately packed my child up. thanked God she made it through the night and took her to her pediatrician who opened at 8am. She stated my child needs a neubilizer. gave me instructions on how to use it and confirmed it s an infection that is going on but her breathing is not good and she needs the neubilizer. The sad part is I was advised by her doctor and many others to NEVER take her to Texas children s because you are prejudice to children on Medicaid. Money may bring fame but an unkind heart brings SHAME. This hospital is profoundly a shame. I hope it takes a turn for the better because these children are our future and regardless of anything they should always be priority!!!!

Today I reached 30 minutes late with my child due to unavoidable circumstances. I was told that I am only allowed to be late 15 minutes. The appointment was canceled.

I would have been okay with that. But previouly I reached on time and have had to wait for upto 45 minutes to 1 hour even after reaching before the appointment time. How is that fair???

Though it is expensive, the quality of the MRI's and x-rays are much better. We have gotten MRI's elsewhere that do not show things that the image centers here show.
The staff is just incredible as well. We have to come back every year since my son had heart surgery as a baby, and we would not put his heart in any one else's care. They take their time and truly care for the kids that come thru and really look out for the best interest of the child. This is our 9th year coming back. Love our cardiologist, Dr. Keila N. Lopez, always friendly and caring!!

If you have an intact son beware they retract their foreskin causing injury to the boy without asking for your permission. They hurt my 3 mo. Old baby trying to get a urine sample without first asking me or even explaining what options i had for testing. Now my poor baby cries every time he pees. They caused tears on his foreskin.

The parents that do come and stay with there children that don't have money to go and buy food for the time that the parents are here should be able to get food with there children and the way that the hospital can tell by the bracles on there children the parents should we're the same thing so that the hospital knows who's says I with the children

I give the star is only because of the pediatricia...

I give the star is only because of the pediatrician that we currently deal with. Texas Children s Hospital needs training their staff at billing department for the accuracy and taking accountability and ownership to correct the mistake they made!!!!!

Ever since we did the test last December we had no any contacts from them. Two weeks ago I wanted to book an appointment for my daughter s annual checkup. I went to my insurance company online account and checked my claimed history. I found that I had a $2600 balance owing to the hospital from the December s visit and I also had a $240 bill from this April. I called my insurance company they said they have processed all those claims at their end and I'd better contact the hospital directly since I have never received any bill from the hospital. I then went to the hospital web site and registered their online account. Online account was showing a $240 balance from this spring visit and I paid immediately. However there was no billing information about the December's visit. I figured there must be something wrong with my contact info. as I have never received any bills from them. There ! They had the WRONG ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER on my personal profile. I honestly don t get how they could get that all wrong as they copied my driver's licence. I spent a couple of hours back forth between their online account service and payment department. Eventually I was told by the payment department this December bill has been to a collection agency. I talked to the staff and tried to figure out how the bill is so high much more than our expectation as the hospital could told us if we want or need for an extra test (the EKG is normal) and how much the cost was. The staff at the payment department became impatient after I brought up my concern and said I had to contact collection agency now and she had a COURTESY to give me those information and listen to me already.
A day after I called the number the staff gave to me and talked to an collection agent. The agent said she would be the one handling the billing and would call us back in a week and also she would send a request to hospital and discuss with them about our concern. Early this week we received the statement and waiting for the call from the same agent to discuss the bill. Yesterday a call from the collection agency after I called back it seems there was no record at all from last conversation the call was ended due to the bad connection. This morning I tried again and again the extension that the agent gives to me I could not reach the agent but only a generic voice message. so I called the generic phone number and talked to another agent. While I am trying to find the so-called reference number which I never had one and then tried to find the account number from the hospital statement the call was ended again. Not sure because of my darn phone or some other reasons.. I am at this point very very disappointed with the Hospital. Still waiting. See if someone could contact me.

Worst hospital I've ever been too!! The wait was horrible! I've never waited so long just for my little boy who was in pain and had a fever of 102.7 just to be seen! I waited 3 hours until I had enough and walked out! The staff was rude! After I noticed how long I waited i asked one of the nurses how long was it before I was next to be seen and she replied "you only been waiting 3 hours I have people who waited 5" and she walked off! Never in my life will I come back to this horrible hospital! Please don't take your kids to this hospital if their in pain, Because this hospital will let your kid be in pain for serval of hours before helping them!

I've been to better hospitals than this crap. I took my daughter here since she was having trouble breathing, a rough dry cough that sounded like congestion in her lungs or throat. They refused to do tests and insisted it was all sinus related. They sent her home with a drug that CLEARLY states children under four are not allowed to take!! My child just turned two.. The doctor insists he was correct and tried to educate me. I've dealt with my daughter sick like this before so I am aware and I'm no fool. I'd rather take her to another hospital than this one containing lousy, young staff who only saw her for FIVE freaking minutes!!!

We waited four hours and still weren't seen by a doctor while my little brother toe was swollen and leaking a bit. The people working there were nice but that was the only upside. There was also an issue with the parking garage machine. Overall it was an awful experience and we'll never be coming back.

Took my daughter to the emergency room last night and ended up leaving without seeing a doctor. Rude staff, nurses don t know how to deal with kids. They put a rectal thermometer in my 13 months old daughter, who was already non stop crying due to her sickness and they found out after the 3rd time that the thermometer was broken. They made her suffer and get worse for nothing. Then, after that, we waited for over an hour and a half and nobody called us and she had fallen sleep as it was already 1 am. I ended up leaving before being called to see a doctor as there was no point anymore as she was resting and I could take her this morning to her pediatrician. Do not recommend emergency room for kids there, unfortunately.

Texas Children's Hospital is by far the worst care...

Texas Children's Hospital is by far the worst care we've experienced with our chronically ill child. Due to employment, we have lived in several states and are familiar with a lot of children's hospitals. The lack of communication between all departments is dangerous. My child developed a staph infection during a simple surgery. The infection was misdiagnosed on a subsequent ER visit, keeping my child sick for months and out of school. Infectious disease was never called until it was unavoidable. It truly did seem like a cover up and hoping we would disappear. On top of that, security on the patient care floors is terrible. When I asked to speak to the supervisor of security, she couldn't come to the floor because they were short staffed - so scary. We have had some really nice nurses, who do care. We know they are doing their best in this mess of an organization. Even clergy was requested and nobody ever showed up! Just seek other options before being taken advantage of here.

The service here has been exceptionally great. We will be checking out this morning, but from the time I brought my son in all the way up onto now I have NOT ONE complaint. My baby had to have surgery due to appendicitis and he was handled with great care. The surgeon came in introduced himself along with everyone else and called me when they were wrapping up to let me know how great things went. In the waiting area there is a guy (forgot his name) that gets updates and comes and tell the families through out the surgical process which I like. Who ever thought it was a good idea for the family to be able to follow the surgical process was right. They monitored my child and made sure he can do everything on his own before we leave today. They constantly asked if they could get me anything the ENTIRE time I have been here. Everyone down from the surgical team (which has came to check on him twice within the past 8 hours) the nures, the patient assistants , everyone who has helped us GREAT JOB.

My great niece was admitted here because she had a case of mono that would not get better. About 3 weeks into the mono she began having debilitating headaches. Then the tremors began along with problems walking on her right side only. Was admitted to TCH who discharged her with a diagnoses of migraines. Within days of being released the tremors and problems began on her left side along with her existing problems. Her speech has now reverted back to sounding like that of a toddler and her memory is almost non existent. Explain HOW THIS IS DUE TO MIGRAINES. TCH has a great reputation but my great niece fell through the cracks.

We arrived there on 7/1/14 via ambulance with an unknown diagnosis. There was a team of doctors waiting for us, Upon arrival we waited in the ER about 30 min for a room, we were taken to the 14 floor where doctors came in immediately to see my son. In the next few days we saw, pulmonologist, cardiologist, child life, psychologist, and where able to get a diagnosis with in a day of being there... I just want to say thank you for everything they did and still do for my family.. thanks to the wonderful and caring doctors my son is doing great. we go very often for follow ups and I would not go anywhere else

I am a former employee of Texas Childrens and had a difficult time tracking my paper work for my pension plan after I left.
I was treated very rudely and was talked over after I stated I had called several times to figure this out.
I just wanted to be treated like I treated families that came in with a concern when I worked there.
I felt like no one cared and they kept saying it was basically my fault the paper work was lost because I got married and had a married name.
After trying to get this situation resolved for a month only to be placed in hold over and over and to be told that I cannot speak to a supervisor only to talk to one about 30 minutes afterward was simply ridiculous.
Customer service towards former employees is a joke and you would think they would try to treat you the way they would want to be treated in this situation.
My problem was still not resolved and I was told to call back (again) tomorrow.
After 5-6 calls already for the month of November and December.

I applied for a epic training position through a recruiter. I have been training epic ambulatory since 2007. I had interviewed with the training manager 2 years previously about a different position and I was not selected. The hiring manager Told the recruiter I was working with that she had already interviewed me. I told the recruiter this was 2 years previous and it was for a different position and the recruiter told me not to worry about it would be fine it doesn't mean anything. While the following Thursday I was supposed to have a phone interview with the hiring manager at Texas children's at 4 o'clock p.m The hiring manager called late about 10 Minutes late. During the 30 minute interview she kept reminding me that she only had 30 minutes after she asked the question tell me about yourself. I was told by the recruiter that they wanted somebody with a clinical background and I knew that a certification was important so at the end of the interview I told the hiring manager that I had an updated certification for epic and that I was a nurse and I kept my nursing license app her reply to me was yay!!!! She was very rude to me the whole interview she acted like she was doing the interview only because she had to. She was very disrespectful to me so I can just imagine how they treat their patients. I was also told by the recruiter that they were moving forward with other candidates and the recruiter told me that she couldn't understand this because I had more experience than any of the other candidates. So think twice about going to Texas children's.

Totally unprofessional calls made regarding child ...

Totally unprofessional calls made regarding child injury. We were told to not feed our 1 year old because she may need surgery and had CPS and the Cops involved for a minor injure according to a houston physician. A trip to the emergency room to make sure our daughter was okay turned into a month ordeal of stress.

The doctors at this building DID NOT evaluate our child properly and caused uneed stress for our family. We no longer trust going to this establishment given the likelyhood a physician may not have the expertise to evaluate patients appropriately.

When we arrived downtown to have our child possible undergo SURGERY from what the physicians said to be told the injury was MINOR and our daughter could have been eating the entire time. They did NOT treat here in any way shape or form. No medicine, no treatment needed. The doctors downtown said she was perfectly fine.

I have never been more unsatisfied with a doctors office in my life. Please train your staff to actually evaluate their patients correctly. She didn't even touch our daughter she looked at her from across the room and immediately said she needed to have surgery and was going to under go anastasia.

I cannot say enough about this wonderful hospital. Every single person we encountered, from the parking guides to the receptionists, to the nurses, clerks, and doctors - every one was so kind, professional, courteous, competent, and compassionate. It's never easy to take your child for a doctor's office, especially not when they have special needs, but this was truly the easiest, most fulfilling, and all-around best experience we've had at a medical facility ever!

We had several bad experiences at TCH in the neurology ward and critical care unit. We then saw a neurologist for follow up care who completely blew us off. We were overwhelmed and didn't even think to get a second opinion because we had several attendings and numerous residents on our case who gave us numerous opinions, but then a "second" opinion fell in our lap. A nurse at another hospital saw a video of my baby, showed it to a resident who then showed it to her attending, and THEY CALLED ME to bring my son in for a 23 hour EEG the next day. Many people in Houston think TCH is the only place for kids, but there are other options!

If I could I would put no stars at all I would. My daughter started with a fever on Saturday March 2nd and I took her to her primary care clinic and they gave her antibiotics because she has an infection. She did not have a fever after that day until yesterday March 8th I took her to the ER and they took 2 hours to see her and the doctor who was there did not seem on his 5 senses! I did not trust him at all he hardly checked my daughter! After another another doctor and she sweet talked saying it might just be a virus without even checking her or anything ! I didn t feel right and I took her to her primary care doctor turns out she has the flu type A!! This is absolutely absurd! The doctors at the Texas childrens hospital do not seem to care for anything! Their job is to check them until they find a reason for the medical problem the kids have! Do not trust them!

The worst experience I've ever had with any hospital. I took my daughter into a local emergency room but her injury was too critical for them to treat. At 6:30pm they put a transfer in for her to go to Texas Children's. We got to Texas Children's by 8:30 with all transfer paperwork. We checked in and got put in a waiting room even though my daughter was critical enough to be transferred. With 2 holes in her eye and her crying blood, we sat in the waiting room for 2 hours. 2 whole hours on top of the 2 hour drive. I will never in my life go back to Texas Children's.

Took my baby in to the ER with fever and waited 4 hours to be seen. Apparently he was not 'sick enough' to be treated as an emergency. We kept going back in cue to other patients. The employees were just lounging and seemed to not care and didn't know what was going on. There was only one doctor for whole unit. If you have an emergency and don't want to wait 4 hours to get checked, take your patient elsewhere.
