Went to see the penultimate day of the Burne Jones exhibition which was magnificent and also Don McCullin exhibition, also excellent. It was a bit on the busy side but only to be expected. My brother is a member so it was free for me as his guest. But even if I had to pay it would have been very good value for money given the amount of work on display. Had a nice lunch in the members' cafe. Bowl of bean, bacon and tomato soup (large!) and a gluten free ham and cheese salad sandwich with gf bread that was probably the best I have ever had. Couldn't even finish it all so wrapped up half and had it for a snack in the evening.
A wonderful trip through the history of art.. A must visit place
A Nice Mix
This was my first visit. It is a marvelous building and I'm happy I went. I like the mix of classical art from the 15th century to the contemporary art of present time. I joined a talk and the person was excellent and was very informative about JMW Turner
One of the best museums in London. Great collection of Turner's paintings.
Amazing work of arts and some of the must see paintings are here.
Queer And Now at the Tate is pretty flippin' wonderful 12/10
Overpriced smoked salmon sandwiches in the Djanogly cafe. Good art elsewhere in the building, however.
Attended the William Blake exhibition. Having known very little about him prior, it was a fascinating look into his art, life, and character. The display of his elaborately illustrated transcripts was particularly fascinating, as well as his engravings, as I'd only ever known him as an "traditional" artist. It was an exceptional exhibition, and I'll be keeping tabs on ones in the future for artists of interest, as it really dug into every aspect of the man. The museum itself is a beautiful building, and I particularly enjoyed the surprise of coming face to face with some of Francis Bacon's pieces, having studied him extensively. There is such a wide timeline of art on display that there really is something for every art admirer, even if you aren't into contemporary art, and some fantastically skilled, famous names on show. Constable is always worth a journey!
Went to the van Gogh exhibition and was blown away. Too many people there as expected, but the paintings were excellent - so much better than in books!
Always active and innovative, the tate britain is a beacon in British culture, I visited the exhibition on Hocney, a bit expensive 16sterline, but it shows very beautiful, despite the large turnout of public, everything perfect I highly recommend.
For the excellent collection of Turner art and British art
Good organised Art Gallery. The Turner collection is a must for every art fan.
The building itself is air conditioned and clean and has a certain beauty about it however don't go to the cafe because the prices are terrible there.
One of the best art galleries in London has a chance to study closely ...
First Friday of every month they have a late night event, would recommend to anyone into art and hipster vibe
Van Gogh exhibition massively oversold. No organisation- queues with no information. Wasn't sure where to go as no signs posted. Hard to see paintings because of the overcrowding. No staff walking around so people getting extremely close to artworks. Lots of pushing and shoving. Lots of people taking photographs on their phones made it really hard to see the art.
Some of the paintings in there are really good. Seriously. Staff are philistines but incredibly helpful.
A brilliant place, an impressive building, good facilities and helpful staff and most of all it's FREE. We are so lucky in London having some of the best museums and galleries in the world on our doorstep and we need to use them. I went More
Beautiful collection of works by British artists. Enjoyed it very much.
The home of pre-Modern British art, and also home to the Turner bequest. It's therefore a must-see place on any art lover's itinerary.
Absolutely love the Tate. Its architecture and the varied periods of art held within its walls are a joy to behold. As a member I regularly take advantage of the offered Exhibitions and the members area. Couldn't recommend more.
Blake exhibition now finished but plenty else to see.
The William Blake exhibition, on here till this Sunday, was inevitably busy, but I do wish that the Tate would have signs up on the walls requesting that people do not take photographs of the items on display..I am sure that the flashes from even mobile phones does not do the fragile exhibits any good, especially exhibits such as these..delicate watercolours, prints and hand-inked items? Also it significantly spoils the experience of others .. Comments please from the curator..? These exhibits are national treasures..!
A treasure trove with many hidden gems. Go check out the Djanogly hall. The current special Van Gogh exhibition is definitely worth seeing. Enter through the Millbank side for a gorgeous (and cold) entrance overseeing the river.
Great exhibitions especially the Turner collection.
Worth seeing Art Museum with changing exhibitions. As with most London museums, admission is free. The exhibition is also worth seeing for art buffs like me. In addition, there are very well-kept sanitary facilities and a nice cafeteria.
If you like your art, this is the place. Loads of artists on display in separate rooms. Vast area to cover on two floors.
Edward Burne-Jones exhibition was brilliant! And we had a very tasty lunch in the cafe.
Grand exposure to the world of art. Welcoming all visitors sans any entry fee , excellent maintenance and truly a grand experience.
Great space, but latest exhibition on Rachel, w. Is not to my taste...
Members desk had a long queue as it was also used for tickets and did not make it to the exhibition as the queue was very long, even for members. Very disappointing
It's free and has a lovely restaurant on the lawn in summer
A little out of the way, and a little bit of a maze to navigate, but worth a visit, especially if you make a day of it in combination with the Tate Modern down the river.
Free entry and a wide range of British art, largely older with some pops of modern. The gift shop is brilliant and the cafe does great cake
Burne-Jones exhibition. Take the guided tour. You'll get so much more out of the experience. Worth the money!
Awesome in many ways eg that staircase, the central hall the whole damn Turner gallery.....go go go!
Great gallery where u can have a good perspective of the art in Britain!!!! Definatelly recomend!
This truely was an memorable experience. The staff were kind and very helpful and the Impressionist in London was breath taking. Henry Moore and Turner are always available as mighty pillars of British art.
Excellent museum focused on British art. The collection is extensive, and it is best to visit more than once, rather than try to 'cram it all in' in one visit. If you are only able to visit for a few hours, the Turner collection is stunning and a must see.
It is better than other museums, but it does not have a small number of works. It is recommended if you go with a child who likes drawing. I have an easel, a paper, and a pencil that I can draw.
Love it here. Beautiful and visitors are beautifully eclectic people. Can get a lovely lunch here too. A must if you re in the area whether you are an artsy person or not.
I did a quick flyby on my lunch break. Some really nice pieces of art in the free galleries. I'm sure even better in the exhibitions!
Contains a large collection of Pre-Rapha l paintings and works by Turner. Even with the same tate, there are not so many people here compared to Tate Modern because of the poor access. However, in terms of the collection, I feel that we have a lot of must-see works.
Historic London art gallery located in Millbank in front of the Thames alongside the Vauxhall bridge. It only houses works by artists from the United Kingdom but with a certain impact, such as Turner, which is dedicated to a wide wing of the museum, which alone is worth the visit. Also noteworthy is the recently built part of interesting architectural impact, which hosts traveling events.
Fantastic collection of British and foreign art from late 19th through to 20 century. Regular insightful special exhibition (entry cost). Great value membership scheme gives free entry to these plus special events.
Do not miss the temporary exhibition until the 11/8 of Van Gogh.
Wonderful gallery though slightly crowded to really enjoy it
A wonderful exhibition of Blake, a retrospective of his works, the main stages of life and work
A wonderful place to visit, spent a couple of hours wandering around. The gallery devoted to Turner was a marvel, loved being so close to those amazing paintings, the man was a genius. If you are in London and have some time to spare give the Tate a look, highly recommended.
In general the museum is just ok, very confusing layout. Hey e went for the Van Gogh exhibition which was great but otherwise wouldn t go again!
Not been for years. Glad we came today. Got here as it opened so really peaceful. Coffee and cake a welcome treat half way round.
Excellent art gallery and marvellous exhibition of Burne- Jones
Knowledgeable tour guide on Turner and even the security overseer was ultra knowledgeable on the topic. Still in search of Room 15 with the Turner v Constable paintings
