Tate Britain is one of those art galleries that you come once and keep coming over and over. It houses great exhibitions in one of the most beautiful buildings in London.

If you are visiting London, please note that Tate Britain is the fine art gallery, not to be confused with Tate Modern; which is 3 km to the East so easily walkable, and in your way there you will find important tourist attractions (Houses of Parliament and Big Ben or Elizabeth Tower), the London Eye, South Bank Centre, the National Theatre, etc).

Yes, the Tate Britain could be very British style, but the collection of Joseph Mallord W. Turner is timeless and tells the story of a painting genius. Before you go, don't miss the film by Mike Leigh which came out in 2014. Turner is a man who looked at the world through the eyes of a contemporary and who saw the iconography of the time beyond images.

Always brilliantly displayed and explained exhibitions with a great selection of choice. Considering both this gallery and Tate Modern are included in membership, it is well worth considering a yearly membership as they prove excellent value for money.

If you enjoy the works of J.M.W. Turner, then you will enjoy Tate Britain. They have the largest collection of Turner's works in the world. Also Constable, Reynolds, Lawrence and many others. That's just the traditional artists. Tate Britain has a vast collection of modern works as well, displayed in a highly logical, chronological manner. Well worth a visit. Admission is free, but a donation is recommended.

Visited to see the Don McCullin photographic exhibition.
Went early to avoid crowds.
McCullin's war photography is very raw and not for the faint hearted. Also many images from areas in the world of starvation and misery, often due to wars. But also some beautiful and atmospheric landscapes.
The images are monochrome, printed in the traditional method using a darkroom, an enlarger and dishes of chemicals with photographic paper. Something most smartphone and digital photographers have never experienced.
The results are stunning, beautiful, unbearable and disturbing.
Go and see for yourself. On until 6th May.

The oldest of the Tate museums, open from 10am to 6pm, free like most London museums. It is about a mile and a half from Westminster Abbey, and from there you can get there by taking a nice walk along the Thames passing through the small park of Victoria tower garden. One can admire masterpieces from the 1500s to the present, in particular Turner, Constable, the Pre-Raphaelites. Beautiful "no woman no cry" by Chris Ofili. On the ground floor there is a bar and a restaurant (carucci). A thousand attentions for disabled people

I wasn't entirely impressed by he exhibits in this museum although it does have a lot of famous British artist on show. The building however is beautiful and it was nice exploring the spaces.

Beautiful curation of William Blake exhibition and intriguing Mark Lekey video installation. Centuries apart, under one roof. Fabulous walk along the river from Tate Modern only took 30 mins.

A little less known than Tate Modern but honestly the art is more easily accessible (to understand) for most I would say and the exhibits always have interesting themes. The area is a bit less fun than it s more famous sibling s but still worth a visit, especially if an exhibit catches your eye or you love Turner.

Went for the DaVinci exhibition, which was fantastic but, as always, too busy. Why do they let so many people in at once? Oh yes, for the money

Also the building as a whole needs much better signage - we quickly got lost both on way in and way out.

Brilliant collection and exhibits. There are some nights in the year when they do Late at Tate: keeping it open until late at night. Great crowd, very lively place. Easy to see a lot of it in one visit.

Went as a school trip to see the Steve McQueen Exhibition, which was pictures of year 3 schools, taken last year! we all enjoyed looking for our school picture! The staff there were very at ease with the children, and listened and answered questions that the children asked! We went to different parts of the galleries and they showed us some of the amazing stuff you could do. Will definitely go back again on my own to see more of the galleries

Tate is always a good idea. There is so much to see here. Also there is a nice cafe and it is near the river. Westminster station is a nice walk away and Victoria station isn't very far, but the walk is not that nice as to Westminster.

I want to thank you for the regular emails sent during lock down giving me an opportunity to explore some art I know and to discover so much I didn't. It was wonderful to feel a connection with a world beyond my four walls and to marvel at the creativity of the past and gain joy from the creativity of the present. Thank you to all those who put the content together. Unfortunately I live too far away to visit the gallery very often if I were nearer I would want to visit regularly and would certainly become a member after this online experience.

Modern architecture in a classic space, very spacious, with many rooms. They usually have several exhibitions at the same time by renowned artists. Clean and spacious toilets, restaurant area with terrace and I was surprised by the variety of organic drinks.

If you want to see a range of artistic and cultural exhibitions, then London is THE place. Unlike other cities across the world, the permanent collections of art galleries and museums are free. If you want to donate, you are welcome to do so. Die hard fanatics can pay extra for the special exhibitions if they wish to. Tate Britain has a range of pieces for all tastes - l went to revisit the Chris Ofili piece, Henry Moore and Turner, but there is something for everyone. You can meander around the galleries at your own pace and see as much or as little as your time allows. Always worth a visit.

For those who are disappointed by the important and famous "sister" Tate Modern like me, the Tate Britan is a nice surprise. It is less crowded and there are very famous works, all related to English art from the 1500s (pity that in this period the Ophelia is not present because it was loaned to the museum in Milan!). It also contains works of modern art. Free entry. Highly recommended visit.

The staff was very rude at the Tate Britain ,I made a complaint to both managers security and the gallery manager. Such staff must be employed for an educational and historic institution. The gallery manager was defending his colleague and I k we he wouldn't address the matter in an orderly fashion rather unfair. Appaling!

This is not Tate Modern, but it is worthwhile to visit. It is closed to London Pilimico tube station on Victoria line, walk along the river bank, about 5mins, the building is on your left side. There is JMW Turner collection, Henry Moore, John Constable etc, all British, of course. Excellent art.
