The lemon tart was delicious, also loved the crust on the almond tart. Definitely going for the bread next, smelled amazing

One of my first stops after relocating back to the Bay area... The best, but plan on a long line
Good croissants and beautiful cakes. A bit expensive but really cozy. Depending on the hour you visit you might struggle to find seating.
Not worth the hype or lines at all. I avoided this place for years because of the lines and decided to go with a friend that wanted to go while he was visiting. We were both underwhelmed and I doubt I'll ever go back.
I ordered about 15 minutes. I ordered Apple cinnamon and croissant amand and hot latte. Although it gave up in a narrow store a little uneasy, I was able to use it pleasantly for the friendly response of the staff who receive a polite service and orders of the busy middle floor women staff.
If you don't know by now, Tartine is among the best bakeries in the world. They carmelize their croissants, which is pretty special
As a sourdough bread enthusiast, I visited this place as part of my bread pilgrimage. Words can't do justice to the magic of their sourdough! Can't wait to be back again. They do a great job with their pastries and cakes too! Love Tartine so much! The perpetual long line of customers is there for a good reason!
Flakey, buttery croissants in the proper French style. Be prepared to wait in line.
Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and delicious breads await.
The pastries are very good, though I would not wait an hour for pastries (and I did wait an hour).
Almond croissant!
Lovely quiche. Buttery pastry, fluffy eggs. Beautiful croissant, crisp and flavorful.. A little too greasy for me though. Coffee was so so.
Tartine is definitely a place where certain things are really good, and other items are just overrated. I'll just give a short list of the stuff I love, and that should steer you in the right direction.
Chocolate Souffle Cake - Prepare to drink a lot of milk with this, because it's super chocolatey and decadent. I really enjoy the unapologetically intense chocolate flavor and its incredible richness. Its flavor and texture demand your attention. This cake isn't for everyone, but I really like it.
Country Loaf - It's hard to beat a fresh, hot from the oven country loaf. The crust is really hearty and crunchy, while the inside has a soft and glutinous texture. The elasticity makes it really fun to eat. I also really like how it's not too sour. I'm not a fan of really sour sourdough, and Tartine knows how to strike a good balance. It's just sour enough to tickle your tongue. Try to eat as much of it as you can on the first day, because it dries out fast and becomes exponentially worse overnight.
Plain Croissants - The crust on the plain croissants is amazing. They way they roll them gives the croissants a really nice vertical layer of crust. All the little crispy layers crescendo into a big satisfying crunch. The flavor is rich and full of butter, so I understand if people think it's too heavy. The texture is also more dense and bready, kinda like brioche or something. If that bothers you, then you probably won't like their croissants.
I don't really get the obsession with their bread pudding. I think it's way too eggy.
Too good to be true! This is my favorite bakery in whole SF! The cakes are simply delicious. There will most like be a long line, but trust me it s worth it:)
Fabulous, absolutely fabulous. Worth the trip. Also that beer was a great choice for lunch.
Not worth the queue. Easily 20-30 strong even at 10am on Monday. Staple morning bun and pain au chocolat was good but not in a mind blowing way the queue or Tartine's reputation would suggest. Have had just as good pastries at chain bakeries like Au Bon Pain. Also v pricey at $5 a bun.
Rumored "the best bakery in San Francisco", I wouldn't go as far as to give it this title (not before trying the better part of SF bakeries), but the pastries and cakes were delicious and the staff was very nice, working fast but with personal treatment, despite the long line winding outside the small shop on the sidewalk.
Learned to bake sourdough from Chan's books. This was a pilgrimage!
It is very VERY rare that I feel that a bakery has truly nailed the croissant. Tartine nailed it %110. Made a point to try both locations, both were phenomenal. I would absolutely encourage anyone who loves authentic french pastries to gives this place a shot.
This bakery will not disappoint! You will most certainly wait in a long line but for mouth watering goodness!
Fantastic lemon cream tart! My girlfriend really enjoyed her croissant.
Everything was yummy except for the thing with the asparagus
Seriously do not miss if you are in the area and travel if you are not. It is that good! Master bakers. My kids love this place and so do we.
Tartine always delivers with their baked goods and never delivers patience or kindness in their service.
Wait is not too bad, although a wait is guaranteed. Food is absolutely fantastic.
Absolutely fantastic bakery with a wide variety of baked goods. The lines get a bit long, especially on the weekends, but the wait is definitely worth it. The morning bun is a staple here; it's sweet with a hint of cinnamon and just the right level of sticky and chewy. Would definitely recommend a visit!
I don't know if it's worth the long wait you often have to endure here in the mornings, but the food is very very good. My favorites: ham and cheese croissant, lemon meringue cake, and the morning bun. They have pretty good espresso too.
Delicious bakery hidden in a warehouse district, they have amazing pastries. I tried the chocolate croissant and was in a sugar and butter dream. I will definitely be returning.
Needless to say, the pastries here are ridiculously amazing and easily some of the best I've had in the city. My favorites: pain au chocolat, banana creme tart, chocolate tart, morning bun, croque monsieur.
Be sure to get there EARLY as the line builds rain or shine. If it's 10am on a hangover Sunday and you think it's a genius idea to hit up Tartine, just go straight to McDonalds for breakfast cuz you ain't getting into Tartine anytime soon.
X its delicious pores and breads and x being my workplace
The line here is not for the weak. Coming here with a family will mean an argument for sure! Thankfully, the quality of the breads made up for the nightmarish wait. Service was also very nice and relatively fast!
The croissant was like nothing I've ever had. Got shudders from how good it was. The almond cream croissant was sold out- I could only imagine how good that would've been!
I don't understand what all the fuss was all about regarding the savory scone, however.
Cheese croque was delicious. That piece of toast was simply indescribable. Cheese was amazing, but it hid the flavour of the bread.
Now I know that I love picked carrot. (comes with the croque!)
Long line, high prices, BUT pure French croissants, nice and crunchy with real hi quality butter. You can taste the difference. Other pastries looked very good. I would come more often and therefore buy more, But pastries are very expensive like 5.50 or something, and hard to find parking. Jane bakery are just as good and only $4. IF! they would just reduce price down to Maybe $4.50? Im convinced they'd do a lot MORE business. Coffee expensive too. These days give customers a deal: good pastry good coffee good price. Word gets out fast.
the place had a good atmosphere the staff was friendly
Great bakery. Always stop when I am in the Sanfrancisco area. Always a line and and amazing coffee
every neighborhood should have one of these, everything was exceptional, the crowds pay testament to the zealous execution of the owner and his staff, we're in good times for artisinal food, and Tartine is at it's bread epicenter
What an awesome bakery. Seriously everything they have is mouth watering. I bring my kids here all the time and they have a field day, this place is very clean and professional. What a great job!!
They're also very famous for their crack pie which is very rich so I recommend to share this one, but no matter what pie you order here is an indulgence you can't miss
The food was so tasty if you have patience to wait in a pretty long line.
still just as crowded even after the Manufactory opened. Why am I not surprised???
This place always has a line out the door. I've come here on multiple occasions; mainly for their baked goods: bread pudding and bread. This place is just that good. Their bread pudding is amazing. They have a small indoor area that you can eat your baked goodies and have a cup of coffee or, if you prefer seats are scattered outside.
Irresistible sweets, delicious coffee, fine tea, great people, very nice atmosphere.
The sweet goods are really good, we tried the chocolate Croissant and morning bun, both delicious. The coffee is good and a great fresh squeezed orange juice. Everything in the display looks great, really nice looking cakes too. I could go with a 5 stars, but the music is too loud, other than than this detail, the place is definitely a go for lunch or breakfast.
It is a delightfully delicious place to eat. Sometimes its a long wait but it's worth the WAIT
It was quite the long wait in line to get food. But it's not the worst wait I've ever experienced, and we managed to snag a table when we got our food (and we were a fairly large group, so that was pretty magical). The food was awesome. I usually consider a "bakery" somewhere I might pick stuff up for a party, or just grab a snack, but after this stop (many savory options!), we were too full for further eating.
Quaint and friendly bakery. Fresh bread comes out at 3pm. Staff was very helpful and welcoming.
I'm so in love with this place. The place has the best cakes. There is so much of variety.
My wife loves their food.
I always love to get cakes from this place, as it makes my wife happy.
Best quality!
The best sandwiches in town ! I just feel like home (France).! THANH U !
What a stunning place! Even though always packed it's absolutely worth it! The vibe is great! Stephanie is the best
If I am waiting for over an hour, best believe this place is good. My cousin introduced me to tartine and we set off to our SF adventure and came here for lunch. The line was ridiculous, but everything was fresh and things were moving quickly. I could stop and stare for hours on end. While waiting, I left my cousin in line to use the bathroom. It is a bit of a walk through their facility and you can see the bread makers working their magic. Bread in, bread out. It was like magic. You get the picture now right? I love bread. Since we waited so long, I made my trip worth it. Over $100 of pastries, I got a assorted bunch. We got pain au chocolate croissant, morning bun, a ham quiche, a vegetable quiche, almond lemon tea cake, devil chocolate tea cake, humboldt fog goat cheese hot pressed sandwich, jambon royale and gruyere hot pressed sandwich with no dijon, a pastrami hot pressed sandwich, a couple chocolate chip walnut cookies, lemon bar, and a banana cream tart.
Basically got the entire menu, if not more! I wanted more cream tart, but they were all out for the day, so I was even lucky enough to get one. In my honest opinion, skip out on the chocolate chip walnut cookies, even though my cousin swears by it. (I like double tree hotel cookies better, or so I may be biased.) Everything was fantastic.I'm not sure if I would wait for a long time again, but this bakery should be on everyone's list when in the city.
My older brother and his wife (a baker enthusiast) told me this place is a must visit and that we have to try their legendary sourdough bread. At $8.50 a lough, I was not disappointed. The bread was the size of a large watermelon, with a beautiful, crispy crust and moist, refined bread inside. It is epic.
We also had a few pastries that were delicious and not overly sweet or savory.
This place is legit.
Really good, thought It would be over rated until I ate their almond croissant thing. Amazing. Minus one star since my $5 grapefruit juice was tiny and not filled up completely.
Amazing food, simple, yet perfectly designed recipes and great crispy&soft bread!
Delicious baked goods. There was a line out the door but it's worth the wait.
love the pastries here, always so much details on the pastries, makes you think twice before you eat them :)...... the prices a little bit high, but what can you expect, is the bay, everything is expensive here.....
Amazing. Come early... expect a line. It's so worth it. Order the morning bun.
Delicious bread and essentially world famous now. While I enjoyed everything I ate, the service line is a bit awkward and the amount of time I waited in line, and for my food, probably won't bring me back to this location often.
As a french, I don't see what all the fuss is about. The croissant was dry and extremely expensive. The pain au chocolat was fine but not worth the price. The chef may have "trained" in France but it certainly doesn't taste like it. To sum up, it's overrated
Delicious but a long wait. Everything here is amazing, but set aside time for massive queueing. If the line goes down one house expect at least 30 minutes of waiting, if the line goes down two houses, expect to wait in line at least an hour. Add on another 20 minutes if you want anything heated up.
Had dinner here after we went and saw the Nutcracker ballet, I enjoyed the rigatoni ! Nice ambiance and there was parking out front which is a plus. Fast service, clean and modern dining area. Steak tartine was my fiancee's favorite !
There is always a line out the door for this place, and rightly so. If you've never had Tartine's warm bread pudding, you are definitely missing out. The cakes are also very moist and not too sweet, which I feel is something difficult to find these days. Even if you aren't a fan of baked goods, there is an assortment of different breakfast/lunch items there to satisfy your cravings.
It's not fair how good these baked goods are. I went in during closing time and grabbed a lemon meringue cake slice because it was one of the few things left. I wasn't even sure if I liked meringue, but wow, it blew me away. Even a slice of probably not-so-fresh cake was delicious, moist, and full of the perfect amount of sweetness and zest.
I went back the last day to get some famed country bread and pastries. Even a day later, the croissants were flaky and top-notch. And again, I'm not even a huge croissant fan. 5 stars all the way.
Don't be intimated by the huge line. It moves fast.
The croissant is always so good here. Don't even know why I bother buying croissants anywhere else....
This place was a bit out of the way for me but it was BEYOND worth the trip! It doesn't look like much from the outside and you might just miss it were it not for the amazing smell calling you in. Be prepared to wait a while in the queue as tourists and locals know about the bakery. In short, this spot is well deserving of its reputation.
This would be 4 stars, if I didn't have to wait 30 minutes before 10 am to get some pastries. My quiche was pretty good. My wife is really into pan au chocolat, but found hers to be a little disappointing.
