Tartine is definitely a place where certain things are really good, and other items are just overrated. I'll just give a short list of the stuff I love, and that should steer you in the right direction.

Chocolate Souffle Cake - Prepare to drink a lot of milk with this, because it's super chocolatey and decadent. I really enjoy the unapologetically intense chocolate flavor and its incredible richness. Its flavor and texture demand your attention. This cake isn't for everyone, but I really like it.

Country Loaf - It's hard to beat a fresh, hot from the oven country loaf. The crust is really hearty and crunchy, while the inside has a soft and glutinous texture. The elasticity makes it really fun to eat. I also really like how it's not too sour. I'm not a fan of really sour sourdough, and Tartine knows how to strike a good balance. It's just sour enough to tickle your tongue. Try to eat as much of it as you can on the first day, because it dries out fast and becomes exponentially worse overnight.

Plain Croissants - The crust on the plain croissants is amazing. They way they roll them gives the croissants a really nice vertical layer of crust. All the little crispy layers crescendo into a big satisfying crunch. The flavor is rich and full of butter, so I understand if people think it's too heavy. The texture is also more dense and bready, kinda like brioche or something. If that bothers you, then you probably won't like their croissants.

I don't really get the obsession with their bread pudding. I think it's way too eggy.
