I am addicted to the morning bun, and am leaving the Bay Area in 3 days. Oh no!
I am addicted to the morning bun, and am leaving the Bay Area in 3 days. Oh no!
Ordered their popular morning bun ($5.61) and boy did it disappoint. It tasted like a overnight pastry from Safeway. We did not bother finishing it and just left it like a dying corpse on the plate. Never again. Overhyped!
First time visitors I recommend their lemon cream tart, morning bun and any of the open faced sandwiches. Their pastries are well made...buttery and flakey...an all around SOLID bakery and cafe
It's the most famous bakery in San Francisco for a reason. Despite there always being a line, it's well worth it. Plus they have a mouth watering Instagram account that you should check out!
The pastries are as good a you can get, anywhere. I once thought having breakfast here was cheaper than flying to Paris. No so sure anymore.
Best bread in the world! So happy we ve moved here and literally 2 blocks away!!!
Love love love!! The best scone I have ever had and the best croissant
Strawberry bread pudding, almond croissant: a small slice of heaven.
Always crowded: be prepared to stand in line outside, but definitely worth the wait.
Less than perfect: the coffee in the glasses looks really cute, but it arrived lukewarm, and even after asking to have it heated, it was barely hot.
food is delicious. expected to be queuing up for 20 min or so.
Rude servers who just ignored the cockroach on my plate.
The line is always long, but moves quickly, so don't get discouraged. Amazing desserts and baked goods; personal favs include the rye cookies, lemon tarts, and banana cream pies! Fresh bread comes out in the afternoon and you can't go wrong with any of their loaves or baguettes. A little pricey, but well worth it. Take your goodies down the street to Dolores Park on a sunny day for the best backdrop to enjoy them with.
The best thing about being stuck on east coast time when visiting San Francisco was how easy it made it to wake up and get myself to Tartine when it opened (I was still about the 15th person in line even then). Make sure you snag a menu from the little basket at the door so you can contemplate how many baked goods you can stuff in your purse without crushing them or killing your bank account. I had the morning bun and it was everything I was promised. Totally worth the trip.
Amazing place. Very crowded on the weekends, but definitely worth the wait!
Lemon meringue cake is delicious!
Limited seatings.
The best fresh baked bread and pastries I've ever had. Always a line out the door. Love the bread pudding. Always make a point to come here when I visit San Francisco!
Okay, so the morning bun was alright. I'm glad to have made it to Tartine and everything was beautiful but I don't think it's worth the hype or long lines.
How could one not love Tartine bakery? It's truly one of the best bakeries in all the Bay area. If you love bread, try the sesame loaf. The sweets are amazing too. The best of the best!!
Yes the wait's ridiculous.
Yes the treats are that good.
It s okay but nothing super. I was so excited to come here but was let down by the food being just okay. For SF standards, this is not something extraordinary.
Busy but the line moves quick and tables turn around quick. Benefit of waiting online, get a close up view of the delectable pastries, cakes and other baked goods.
By the time our coffee and pastry were ready, a table freed up for us to enjoy a quick bite.
There was a small line even 1.5 hours before the bread comes out just for general purchases. I had an excellent piece of rhubarb pie to hold me over. I'll be back to get some freshly baked sourdough! I came back at 4:30, small line that dissipated quickly (don't know if normal or not). Had a Jambon Royale, it was excellent and plenty for 2. Got a baguette as well. Crust a bit hard for my taste otherwise fine.
This little place is as yummy as it is cute. Perfect drinks, vibrant service, and a selection of breakfast toasts that are innovative without being too complicated. Lots of local foot traffic and regulars are no surprise for this gem of a cafe. No matter where you live in the city, this place is worth the visit.
Must try the banana cream pie! Grab one and head to Dolores Park. Enjoy!
Waited in line 20 minutes, finally got to place my order, was told kitchen was closedb it was 1 minute past closing time.
The service was very welcoming and observant. This place has a great design.
VERY POPULAR BAKERY IN SAN FRANCISCO AND USA. FRENCH BREWERY AND FRENCH BREAD THAT I HAVE NOT HAD THE CHANCE TO TASTE FOR IT MUST COME VERY EARLY OR ORDER YOUR BREAD SUNNIGHT. THE PASTRY IS GOOD AMAZING. IT IS WORTHY FOR GOOD PASTURES IN THE USA IT DOES NOT SHORT THE STREETS. WAIT TO PATIENT IN THE FILE
This is my fav place ever. The food is yummm. One of the best ever.the best is the fresh bread, they have those in the evenings and there is usually a line for it but its worth it completely
Hello.
What happened? My wife and I really love your cake and pastries but we were very disappointed this time. For my birthday my wife purchased a passion fruit cake and chocolate croissant which was delicious. On 5/24/20 we purchased the same thing again and the quality and taste was not good. Passion fruit cake was not a tasty and the chocolate croissant was dried, flaky and chocolate tasted old and scanty. Please let me know what happened?
Best bakery in the Bay Area. The coconut cream tart is one of the most amazing things I have ever tasted.
yes the lines are stupid long just about always. the lines are there for a reason.. this place is simply spectacular. everything is delicious.. top recommendations are the country loaf (comes out of the oven daily around 4:30pm), the morning bun, the bread pudding, the lemon bars, and the pain au jambon.
Haven't tried the pastries but went for lunch. Sandwich was way overpriced and was oddly served with one overcooked carrot. The bread was way too crunchy. Waited forever to get the sandwich to go. I wish I'd just grabbed something from the cute grocery store next door. Chocolate Cake looked divine, though.
Sorry for disappointing the queue outside this place! I frankly doubt about their food background experience or the SF bakery s offer.
In UE a bakery run in this way wold have been closed from the health department due to lack of hygiene standard. See the way is the bread backed and handled...what s more next too the toilet! For cakes goes better,,,but let s say that Trump, wanting to build up more walls, will not help the bakery to give less sugar and more taste.
What a dive, I was a fan of the books, bought them both about 2 years ago. I was there for the first time (and last time), I asked the counter Lady about the bread and must have offended her with my question, she had a very hard time telling that it will be ready around 4 pm. I get to the cashier to pay and asked if the owner is around, maybe I can get my book autographed, he said, I am the owner, he took it back after realizing I know how the owner looks like from the book. his second answer was that he does not know the owner that he works for and never met the man. No sign outside the store. Be aware of the area, We got our van broken into and our belonging stolen (back windshield)
They were out of croissants so I was able to try their most popular items. Has a ham quiche and was average. Also tried their crumb cake but was a little disappointed, had somewhat of a cornbread taste. Will definitely be back to try the croissants though.
Amazing bakery. The bread pudding is to die for, even if it looks like a delicious mess when packed in a takeaway box. The banana cream tart was also recommended so we also tried that, I'm not a huge fan of cream, but it was still delicious, and huge. Consider sharing with friends.
Very busy place with mediocre service and mediocre coffee.
Absolutely in love with their famous eclairs, delicious morning buns, fresh banana cream pie, quiches with the amazing flaky crusts, their signature Country bread, .....the list goes on. Love this place.
I've always wanted to try this place and I finally was able to on this trip! I heard so much about their banana cream tart. it was DELICIOUS. I recommend splitting with a friend. It is pricey and can get too sweet if you eat everything alone. it's messy!! But if you like bananas and chocolate and a delicious crunchy crust, you must try!
Absolutely delicious! It's cramped inside, it was hard to get around with a small stroller, but the pastries are incredible.
A line out the door every day, can it really be that good? Yes, yes it can. Bread budding for the win!
I tasted croissants and scones, but I did not know why they were famous. I think it is worse than the famous bakeries in Europe and Korea, but it was nice to have a takeaway and feel relaxed in the nearby Dolores Hills.
The little Tartine Bakery is a phenomenal bakery / confectionery: it has excellent breads, good dishes (such as Croque-Monsieur which brings delicious fresh asparagus in its version) and great pastries (highlighting its fantastic lemon pie).
Worth knowing, but get ready for the queue and the very limited number of tables on site.
Poor service at best, no communication between the bakery staff and cashier.
Over-hyped. It's good, but not that good. Can't really come here for a meal either. It's just a bakery with decent pastries and coffee. Anything more substantial had the typical San Francisco mark-up (i.e too expensive for what you're getting).
We got the coconut cream tart and the banana cream tart. Both topped with a light layer of cream that sits on top a thicker than condensed milk/heavier/sweeter layer of inner cream. The crust is flaky, yet sturdy enough to hold everything together, and is lined with a layer of chocolate.
The banana cream tart contained chilled banana slices. Other than that, the cream and crust was the same as the coconut cream tart so the banana was not overpowering!
The coconut cream tart was topped with lots of coconut shavings, while the banana cream tart was topped with chocolate savings.
In terms of sweetness, on a 1-10 scale, I'd give it a 6-7 so it's medium sweet (not a tart tart) and each can enjoy his/her own!
Tartine Bakery is my favorite Bakery in downtown San Fransisco and it's super popular. There is always a long line in front of the bakery but the wait isn't bad.
Tartine Bakery is one of the best places in town. Their baked goods are awesome, like addiction. Be careful: High calories guaranteed, but man, there is no better way to start your day. Make sure to try out the ham-and-cheese croissant!
The line was snaked out the door but they pass people through pretty quickly. Their fresh loaves of bread are huge and delicious, especially when eaten fresh. They also have sweet pastries and savory pastries. Their pies and quiches are really robust which is reflected on it's prices.
Tartine continues to live up its longstanding reputation as one of the best bakeries in the entire Bay. I remember my cousin driving two hours and standing in line for their banana cream pie and fruit tart in 2004. They were the highlight of my high school graduation party. 14 years later you'll still find tourists and visitors lining up out the door, but the queue moves quickly thanks to the brisk service. Locals come early (8-8:30 or during weekday afternoons). Enjoy the smell of butter and caramelizing sugar while you wait.
Everything is pretty much the best of category, and a few are revelations: the banana cream pie (with a chocolate coated shell and large chocolate shavings), morning bun with candied orange, bread pudding, ham and cheese croissant, croque monsieur being a few of my favorites. They are s pioneer in the baking world for sourcing ancient grains, kernza, and other sustainable ingredients. They've been consistently turning out some of the best loaves in SF, available online through GoodEggs, for over a decade.
Sir can i get a job their... I need to success my life... Pls im hopping u il see this comment.....
The bread here is to notch and the desserts are not to be forgotten. Show up early if you want full selection on the loaves. Worth the wait!
Crowded and high quality pastries, but not sure it's worth the wait in line.
This is a must. My wife is a baker. A really good one. I've had so many desserts. That Lemon custard tart...is the best dessert I've ever had. I didn't take a picture of the Jambon Royale and Gruyere sandwich I ordered because I ate it. Rapidly. It was extraordinary. You would hope it would be for almost 20$ and it did not disappoint as so many others have at that price point. We also got a baguette and a loaf of their freshly baked country bread. Exquisite. It's just all so good. Fresh squeezed OJ, special.
Of course the line was out the door...and it was hectic in there...so be ready for it. It's worth all the chaos. We took our items up to the park nearby and enjoyed the treats and the views of the city. This will become our first stop when we come to SFO in the future.
Stopped here on National Lemon Meringue Pie Day for a slice of lemon meringue cake and a croissant (because I can't leave here without a croissant - buttery and flaky; it puts all others to shame). Will return for a banana cream tart soon; amazing cream and wonderful, flaky crust thay is topped with Valrhona shavings.
glad i do not live in this area ! i would be overweight very quickly ;-)
If you love tarts, this is the place you should come at least once in your life !!! I mean it!!!
Tartine Bakery - as good as the reviews. Is the line worth it? Up to your patience threshold. Forego the line by going in off peak times, mid / early afternoons are the best times to go. Order the bread pudding, croissants, tarts, anything! Highly recommend the bread pudding, it always changes according to the fruit in season.
Love sitting outside in the morning, they have the best ham & cheese croissant around!
Expect a 30+ minute wait if the line reaches past the windows to the bakery. It's worth it through!
Just get Your money and gove to them. You will get it once You ll have first bite. See You soon
High quality, high end bakery. Limited seating. Plan to take your stuff to go, maybe to eat at Dolores Park up the street.
Has a big name but the people have a way to high attitude. There is also no official way to try the plain bread in the bakery it self.
You make a very bad service online and they don't serve you just because they see you as Hispanic.
Their muesli and bread pudding are the best. And their orange cinnamon buns. And they serve mochas in a soup bowl.
excellent bakery sure to please. exotic cakes with intense flavors. great for taking out. could use some updating in the decor to make it a friendlier place to hang out.
In the morning, you will get still-warm creme sticks and various other freshly baked bread. I was too amazed by each taste. It was all so yummy and buttery. I highly recommend this place.
More than lived up to the hype.
I'm not going to be able to add to the praise that this bakery receives. I'll just say that all the accolades are well deserved.
Busy bakery with a line out the door usually. The morning bun was decent, but my favorite is the almond croissant.
