Kenny, Ricky and Travis recently installed a sump pump in my crawlspace. They were fast, and repaired the lawn so you could barely tell they were there.

We recently had our crawlspace encapsulated and insulated by TarHeelBasement Systems, and we were very happy with our crew, Josh McKnight, Alex Lemon, and John Canterbury. They were very professional, did a fantastic job, and cleaned up every scrap of material. We have yet to use our dehumidifier/sump pump as we await our electrician, but the company has very good guarantee on all parts and workmanship.

Brian and his crew did a great job. The crawl space looks great and the work was done in a timely and efficient manner. They were also good about keeping us in the loop about progress during the encapsulation.

There were places in the floor that a different crew were able to repair on the previous Friday. Their efficiency and workmanship meant that we were ready when the encapsulation took place. Very pleased with the results.

Overall, we had an excellent experience. Mathew was very thorough and did a wonderful job and was very knowledgeable about the job he was doing. I highly recommend Tar Heel Basements to anyone you want be disappointed.

Although the original consultation said to do one thing, when the general foreman Kenny and his boys Nicki and Ricki showed up, they shared an alternate solution. This not only saved us time and money but it showed a true representation through its employees how great of a company this is. They care about doing the job right the first time but also about putting the customer first. I would recommend this company to everyone, especially the Kenny/Nicki/Ricki crew. We felt like they went above and beyond, but they humbly said they were just doing their jobs.

Josh Watson, Nathan Griffin and Robert Wall did a fantastic job at our house. They were professional, polite and experienced. They were a pleasure to work with. We will definitely recommend them! Thanks so much to our sales rep Seth Brown!

Updated 11/13/20: When the service person arrived after my last set of issues with the basement system, other problems were discovered. One of the sump pumps they installed did not work at all, and the crew that sealed my crawl space did not connect the dehumidifier correctly so it created a pool of water in the crawl space from condensation. The service manager and operations manager came to my house that day and assured me that all of the problems would be taken care of. Now, as of 11/12/20, I am still having issues. Another nail hole in the plastic barrier is leaking water in my basement and water continues to seep through the concrete Tarheel poured over the gutter system. You can see the wet spots form in the concrete when it rains and my hand gets wet when I wipe across it. They say this is due to wicking but I can t understand why a waterproofing system would still allow water in my basement. The last time this happened, they sprayed a sealer on the concrete but that did absolutely nothing to fix the problem. I am now waiting for another service person to come back and try to fix the same problems they supposedly fixed last time. At this point, I cannot recommend Tarheel to anyone. The price of the system is far too high to be having these issues.

Updated 10/11/20: My basement system failed its first test so I m changing my review to 2 stars. Moisture is now seeping through the concrete, a nail hole in the plastic barrier, and I ve got standing water around a pipe. I will update my review again when Tarheel fixes these issues.



I am very pleased with the service Tar Heel provided. The crew that worked on our basement - Ian, Shannon and Kyle - were friendly, professional, answered all of our questions, and eased our concerns. They left a clean worksite and even finished a day early. This crew went out of there way to make sure we were happy with the service. Our sales rep, Dave, was very knowledgeable about the basement system, and answered all of our questions. He even made multiple trips to our house to make sure all of our concerns were addressed before the work started. Dave was very helpful and provided friendly service. We ve had one rain since the system was installed and everything is working properly! I will update my review if anything changes.

This crew was fantastic! (Josh C., Josh M. Josh W., Jason, Matt B.) They were all very polite and worked in a very professional manner. They were happy to keep us updated on a regular basis and answering any questions that we had. It was a pleasure to have them working at our home - you rarely see this kind of work ethic anymore. We are thrilled with the clean space and those guys..... what a team! A good group of hard working guys.

Tim came by today for an estimate, he was very professional and personable, I heard of Tarheel from one of my coworkers and man she was right to recommend them! I can't wait to get my project underway with this company!

I wouldn't hesitate to use Tarheel Basement Systems again. It is one of the most professional and well run businesses that I have ever used. The salesman and crew both showed up on time and communication was very open and efficient. The price of the concrete lift was very reasonable. Five Stars.

Our basement wall drain system that directs weep hole flow into the sump wasn't working. But then it's like 30 years old and has been through a lot. We hired Tar Heel to replace and upgrade it. All the teams are probably good, but we got the "A-Team": Robert Hacker, Dale Howell and Gerry Hairston. Our half basement is only accessible by coming through the house. To prevent any issues with our flooring they covered the entire walkway from outside to the work area with heavy vinyl. Obviously they'd done this kind of work before since they were fast, efficient and demonstrated good teamwork. The job was perfect as far as I could tell and the basement actually looked better than before they started. Happy clients!

Bruce & Thomas were super to work with. They were very knowledgeble , patient and accomodating while installing the poly to level our concrete pool deck. Would definately recommend Tarheel.

The finished job looks great and they were very easy to work with. They were very pleasant to work with and set high standards for the finished job. They made sure the slope was correct and water would flow away from the house.

The cleanup and caulking job was very good also.

I enjoyed working with them today and with Rick Brown on the quoting process.

Orville, Ken, and Chris did an outstanding job installing basement gutter system in my home. They were extremely professional and explained what they were doing every step. They didn't leave a mess and I am so grateful for the service they provided me. I will recommend to anyone with basement issues.

They gave a lifetime warranty on their work. My wife spent $8,000 to have our basement done and it is 2000 sq ft. The work was awesome. Then the humidifier broke and they diligently worked to get working properly.

Ian reviewed the scope of work with us in detail before proceeding. He and his team of Robert W. and Austin worked steadily and tirelessly in a professional manner while completing the project. Their excellent work ethic is exemplary. They are a definite asset to the company.

Adam Blake and Lorenzo Areola just left after doing a super job lifting my Mom's utility. My Dad built it over 40 years ago and the nails had rusted on the brace under the house and it had fallen over 2 inches. Took Adam and Lorenzo about 2 hours and they had it back level with the rest of the house. Very professional and I would recommend Tar Heel Basement to anyone wanting great customer service and work. Recommendations to Tarheel Basement: Recommend the client to provide GFI Breakers vs an GFI outlet for the sump pump & Dehumidifier. This will keep the client from having to go under the house to reset the GFI Outlet if it trips. My electrician made this recommendations to me

Orville and Ken did a great job, and kept me up to date along the way. Everything was cleaned out and the basement looked great. I could not even tell where the dug the drainage ditch they covered it back so well. This is the second job they have done for me and I would definitely use again.

Devonta, Terrence, and Naqwell did a great job for us last week to install a system to keep water out of our basement. They were professional and cleaned up well when project was completed.

I always thought Hernan was the best tech that TarHeel Basement ever had; however, Matt Johnson is catching up with him. Matt is absolutely one of the most honest, trustworthy, and knowledgeable techs. I recently had an air handler / heat pump installed in my encapsulated crawl space. The installer tore the liner while trying to removed old air handler which was understandable since it was on cinder blocks. However, when Matt arrived to repair the liner, he noticed that the installers had left a mess in my crawl space: saw dust, cinder blocks, and other debris from installation. He immediately took pictures and told me to call the company. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the installers, but thankful that I called Tarheel Basement and the helpfulness of Matt in bringing the situation to me. As a female senior citizen, I can't crawl into my crawl space. If anyone calls TarHeel Basements, ask for Matt Johnson! Also Brittany who schedules appointments is also very nice and helpful! TarHeel Basements is a great company with great customer service. Highly recommend

They all were friendly, professional and seemed genuinely concerned with my satisfaction. THBS has created quite a "we" culture that manifests itself in statements like "We want you to be happy!" My experience with TarHeel Basement Systems was exceptional. The crew leader,Gary Hacker, along with his crew of Jose Ramirex Morelos and Joseph Dillon Yancey were on time every day, efficient and very clean. From the first phone call to set up an appointment for an estimate to the final contact after the job was completed every interaction with this company was positive, enthusiastic and helpful.

The first appointment was scheduled quickly, and Steve Dullack (the engineer doing the assessment) contacted me to confirm the appointment within 24 hours. Steve was incredibly thorough, explained things thoughtfully and completely, and allowed my husband and me enough time to digest the information so that we could make an informed choice. (I appreciated not having to fend off a hard sell.)

When I was unhappy that it was going to take longer to schedule our job than I had expected, Lisa in the scheduling department worked wonders and got us scheduled a week and a half EARLIER than I expected.

The cleaning crew did an amazing job of clearing our crawlspace, and the encapsulation crew finished it off beautifully. All of the people involved were professional and competent, and Bobby and Justin went out of their way to explain the finished product, and how it all works. I am astonished at how much water is coming out of that dehumidifier...

Everyone I encountered through this process seemed focused on doing their jobs well, and to making sure my husband and I were happy with the result. And even better than that, everyone working on this really seemed to enjoy doing what they were doing.

Customer service blows. We live in Virginia and had great customer service before the service, before we paid. Now after their service and water still in the basement. No customer service. We keep getting the same, we'll call you back. Steer clear. All they do is redirect your water leak. They DO NOT fix the water leak.

He thoroughly examined our crawl-space, meticulously laid out our options, and was upfront about costs. These two young men, Shawn and Nate who came by to install the sump, humidifier, and waterproofing system just the nicest, most professional and you wanted them to be your neighbors! Not only bc of the service but because they re just kind people and to be that kind as technicians means the owners are kind to them I m imagining and that does my heart good !

Brian Reich provide an extremely thorough and easily digestible breakdown of some improvement we wanted to make to our home. This is a company that does great work and is very methodical in their approach. If you live in an older home with an older foundation, take the time to get a proper consultation before you shop on price alone!!

BUYER BEWARE - I recommend that everyone not judge a book by it's cover when it comes to Tar-Heel Basement systems. Although they have a well designed presentation, they fail on several levels. And they are dishonest when it comes to the "warranty" of their work.

1) Provide Misleading Quotes - After I provided a competitor's quote that was much cheaper, the representative with Tar-Heel contacted me to tell me he was able to do the work on my basement for "$600.00 cheaper." Come to find out, Tar-Heel just removed $900.00 of work from the contract. Sneaky move!

2) They Drag Their Feet - I had issues in communicating with the sales representative with Tar-Heel regarding the terms of the contract. It took him nearly a month to provide me answers. And as a high pressure sales tactic, Tar-Heel will not allow you to get in line for repair until after the contract is signed.

3) Warranty is NOT a Real Warranty - Yes, that's right. They claim to have a 25-year warranty on their sump pump and installation. Even the warranty itself says it covers water getting into the basement floor. However, when you read the fine print, all water seepage is EXCLUDED from the warranties. When you ask them to change it, they won't. So if and when you have a water seepage issue, they won't cover it. (See the attached photos). They don't look after you, they look after themselves!

I recommend going with a company local to Winston-Salem who will actually communicate, be honest, and warrant their work. To find this, you should stay away from Tar-Heel Basement systems. Best of luck with your search!

On 9/25/19, The Tarheel team Robert Hacker and Dale Howell installed french drains around my entire basement. Over the three day project, I was impressed with the work of these young men, who were professional, worked neatly, and took time to answer all my questions. They took pride in their work and spoke well of their employer. I also like that they didn't make unnecessary noise with loud radios. We have not had torrential rains (like we had in the spring), so we're waiting to really test the new drains and sump pump.

We were also pleased with the salesman Kent Dunn, who spent alot of time with us and used CAD drawings to help us understand the project. (A competitor's visit was hurried and not very helpful.) Kent's estimate was more extensive than the competitor's estimate and was also several hundred dollars cheaper.

I also like that Tarheel will do yearly maintenance at a reasonable cost. The competitor does not offer maintenance.

The crew were polite and hardworking. The crew arrived on time and even gave a call when they were on the way.Once on-site, they got on the task at hand. Visually the water-proofing done in our cellar made a huge improvement. The proof in the pudding will be the results after the rain in the next couple of days. I am overall very pleased with Tar Heel Basement Systems. They had previously installed some extensive floor leveling systems in our home.

The BEST DECISION! We are so thankful to have our crawl space sealed by Tar Heel Basement Systems. Very professional staff, good customer service, and a job well done that they stand behind. You get what you pay for and having our healthy and not worrying about our baby being exposed to mold is priceless in my book! 5 Stars you deserve everyone of these!

The team that we had working on our basement was Formen Ian and Tommy; co-foreman,Shannon and Installers Kyle andJeremy. We have never seen a harder working team nor a group that was more helpful. They answered all our questions and went above and beyond to help us. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

The band aid approach done by the previous owner wasn't effective. Nathan inspected and delivered a very professional scope of work. He was beyond helpful, and patient, answering and advising on our many concerns. The crew: Dale, Zach, and Edward drove a long way to reach us but arrived and treated us like friends. I have dealt with a lot of companies before for various projects around the house but this one is by far one of the best. They were EXTREMELY thorough with their work. I never had a huge problem with water in my basement except for heavy rain storms. Then, I would see streaks of water in several places down there. It's usually not a huge issue since the basement is not finished but I'll probably finish it in the near future. Water down there would have been a huge problem. I waited to do the review until I know if the issue has been resolved. Well, after almost a year now, I have not had any water issue down there. They were extremely responsive with questions.

Hello! We had a great experience with Shannon and Ian. They were timely, professional, and immediately put us at ease. They completed the project as scheduled and were very considerate of our household. What a great experience with Tarheel Basement.

I cannot criticize the work because it never got that far. My appointment was scheduled three weeks out and I received an email 6 days out about my upcoming visit. I called the office when nobody showed up. I was told that my appointment was postponed for 2 days and scheduled for a different time. Unfortunately, I was not notified. Then after some more checking I was told that the appointment for that time had been cancelled. I was also told that the notes said I was to be called followed by another note saying that this was not done. I could get another appointment in a month. I was afraid to take a chance on that and took this as a bad sign. I will find someone else to do the job. The lady I spoke with was very nice, but it was not the first call she had like that yesterday.

Got an thorough and knowledgeable estimate from Brian Reich at Tar Heel. Clearly know their stuff. Thanks Brian!

Job well done. The crew, Zack M, Doug, Jesse, and Q, spend the whole day fixing my crawl space. They were on time, courteous and made sure to answer all my questions.

Team JJM did our encapsulation, in July, and did a very good job. We were pleased with the results. They were very considerate of our needs and made recommendations to keep the dehumidifier running properly. We would certainly recommend tar heel basements to anyone. When we found a problem they sent someone out promptly to get it repaired.

Matt Johnson was our technician, who came out when our light came on on the dehumidifier. He corrected the problem, while making other suggestions to keep our humidity level as low as possible.

The work that was done by Zack, Brandon, Edward and Lee, at Faith Tabernacle Church was done in an excellent manner. They represented Tarheel Basement Systems well.

Devonta, Terrence and Shariff were professional and didn't mind answering my questions. They worked hard for two long days waterproofing my basement storage room and stayed late the second day so the job could be finished that day. I want to be upfront, I can't comment on the quality of work for Tar Heel Basements systems. We had a technician come out who was thorough, and explained available solutions and products to us. I have confidence that the quality of service and products used appear to be top of the line.

I did not see other comments referencing this, so I felt compelled to post in case its helpful to other potential customers. Our estimate was extremely HIGH. I know this work is not cheap, but we had 4 other companies also come out and give us estimates and at worst similar services were half the cost of Tar Heel, some were a quarter of the cost of our estimate.

The technician that came out, while thorough, tried very hard to sell us on a one-sized fits all approach and definitely used extreme language to try and convince us that our house was literally falling apart, which scared the bejesus out of us (I am happy to report that as of today, our house is still standing :)

Other companies that came were more realistic about our problems and offered a couple of different solutions so we had some options to consider instead of just full encapsulation and adding pricey jacks to support our foundation. Again, I felt confident about Tar Heel's products, but I wanted to share I don't think it's for everyone, especially those with a modest budget for crawl space repairs like myself.

I would highly recommend Tar Heel Basement Systems to anyone with issues with crawlspace moisture. They were such a breeze to work with. Everyone from the company was professional and courteous. James, the foreman and John Boy did an amazing job on the installation of my crawlspace encapsulation system. Thank you Tar Heel Basement Systems!
