Called and talked to a gentleman who scheduled an appointment to come out and check out a hot tub. He said he would personally be out to take a look. Took off work early so I could be home at 4:00pm when the appointment was scheduled. I called at 4:15 to see if someone was coming and the same person answered. I asked about the appointment and his response was, "Yea, that's not going to happen. I have two people sick today. Will tomorrow work?" I explained that I can't take off work every day on the off chance that they can make it. His response, "OK, I can't control when people get sick." I can agree there but you can control calling your appointments and letting them know if you can or cannot make it.

I really thought the services and prices were better when they were Contemporary pool and spa. It's hit or miss on the staff's skill level and knowledge some days, but it's always a better experience than Leslie's for me.

We've used Swimfun for a couple of years now-the previous owners used them so we continued. I called several months ago to set up an appointment to open my pool-the person on the phone said no issue you are the first one to schedule on that date. So that day I waited at home all day-no one showed & no phone call-I called said they were running behind & they will call me if they aren't coming-no show no call-waited all day the next day...nothing , so I called and they fed me some lie about a gate being locked-so why didn't they call?? They showed up on a day that I couldn't be there so I had no instructions on what to do. My pool didn't even look like it was running-I had to look up on YouTube to see what to do-they did everything half-ass...didn't put the director caps on any of the water pump things, they left chlorine tablets out on the concrete and didn't bother to tell me that they couldn't turn on the skimmers because the baskets weren't out. They apparently put $100 in chemicals in the pool and after almost 2weeks it's still is murky. Called up there & the lady that answered acted like she could care less....we really like using them in the past-something changed-maybe they've gotten too big. Not impressed & will probably take my business elsewhere to someone that will take more time especially when I'm spending $300 to open it and it takes them what seems like 5 minutes...wish things would have been better

For a pool supply store located in a four month swim season (Kansas), Swim Fun has a huge selection of parts and accessories. If you DIY a lot of plumbing, electrical and mechanical pool repairs, do the right thing and get your supplies at Swim Fun (or any other LOCAL store.) Ordering online will save you a few bucks but being able to get parts immediately is worth a little extra. It's nice to know most of the parts any supplies you need are just a short drive away any your pool can be back "up and running" TODAY.

Fantastic experience start to finish! No pressure sales. Our hot tub was delayed due to quarantine, but Cody always responded to my calls immediately. I was never left hanging. Tanner, who handled our installation, was THE BEST! We had an issue with the electrical and he went above and beyond to correct it so we could enjoy our hot tub that same day! Highly recommend working with this group; you won't regret it. Oh, and we LOVE our hot tub!

Initially, I thought they were great. I bring my water in and they tell me what to use to get it balanced and answer any questions. More expensive than most, but you get what you pay for and I enjoyed the personal service. Then, a few weeks after I thought I found the holy grail in pool companies, I needed their help with my pool and that's when everything changed. Originally, I had scheduled weeks in advance for winterizing on October 18th, before the appointment day came my pool started leaking, about a foot in 12 hours. I called the store where I spoke to the owner and she told me they needed to diagnose the leak so they would change the winterize appointment to a service call instead. The 18th came and went. No call no show. I actually did call the store twice that day to check, both times being told they would find out and get back to me....nothing. The next morning the tech shows up while I'm actually headed out to an appointment and says he can't do anything because the water is too low (well I did tell them that was why they were coming, if I needed to fill it that would have been good information to have before they showed up - I am about 3 months into pool ownership and learning the very hard way apparently). He tells me to start filling back up and he will be back later that afternoon. He never came back. Next morning, same thing he shows up in stealth mode to check the leak, finds it, leaves my house and leaves me a voicemail that is so long my phone couldn't record it all. (I didn't even know he had been there until I listened to my voicemail) Basically, leaks in the motor gaskets so they need to be replaced, ok no biggie. I actually feel bad for the technician himself. It seems like the office staff overbooks his time and then when even the slightest problem arises in the field he's then so far out of his time frames there's no catching up. Nobody communicates to the customers for him so he has to sneak around so he can just get his job done and not get accosted by angry customers. When I addressed my concerns with the owner she told me she has 300 pools to worry about. Ok, I hope you don't treat all 300 of your customers like this or you won't have. I'm still waiting to hear back about the protocol for the repair since my pool is still leaking and has now become a cesspool since I can't keep the water high enough to vacuum or run the pumps/motor. I called Wednesday to explain the state of my pool and find out what, if anything, I need to do to be prepared for the repair on Monday. They said, let me find out and call you back. Still waiting........

Witnessed rude behavior from staff regarding people wearing masks!!!

Update: Indulge yourself in the passive-aggressive responses from the "owner" in recent reviews! We're all keyboard warriors and fake news I suppose.

I witnessed borderline harassment to someone who was only trying to patronize a locally-owned pool shop. She was harassed for wanting to do what appeared to be a curbside analysis of her water, something that should be respected by the "owner" regardless of their view or opinion on the current ongoing pandemic. She did not feel comfortable going inside the store and she was harassed, in my opinion, for not doing so. I looked on your website- you offer curbside pickup. If the customer has a history of not supporting your store, say it. If they have a history of purchasing products from you, offer your services you advertise to them in the manner in which they are comfortable right now.

To the "owner": There will always be two sides to every story. The fact that you come on here to blast people who don't bow down to you makes you look bad, no matter the situation. There's absolutely no reason to be as aggressive as you have been online. If anyone is a keyboard warrior, it's you.

If you do not change and adapt to how your customer base feels comfortable utilizing your services, you will continue to lose customers. Adapt, or continue to let your competition acquire your customers.

After being charged for something there service guy siad he would not charge me for i called to discuss my bill, the ownwer told me i was rude, pushing , mean person who intimidated her service guy and that she hated everyone in Paola and would not go out to Paola anymore. I have never been so insulted in my life. If i was so mean to her people they sure fooled me, they walked around my yard looked at my garden and told me how much they liked my place. The service guys do a great job but the owner is way unprofessional and rude. i was a loyal customer for 15 years or more and i will never use them or go in her store ever again and i hope all of Paola does the same.

3 maybe generous. We used this company for 3 seasons. The inside techs were incredible to run diagnostic samples and recommend effective treatment. While a certain tech was spot on with on going pool maintenence, other techs failed to demonstrate pride or competence in their work. When we have reached out to ownership, our concerns and needs were addressed timely and effectively; however, at the prices paid for weekly services in addition to open and closing costs over several seasons, one would expect less need for micromanagement. Considering a new company this season even though I'd hate to develop a new relationship with a new service provider. The grass isn't always greener. Tip from business minded individual, family loyalty may actually interfere with prosperity of business.

If I could have given Contemporary Pool a 10 star ...

If I could have given Contemporary Pool a 10 star rating I would have.
We live in Iowa and were visiting our son in Gardner. I had been fighting a cloudy water situation in my pool for weeks and getting extremely frustrated. I took a water sample into the store(which we found via a internet search) and Jeanette Pearcy the owner ran an analysis on the water and found my stabilizer was low to non existent. She explained the results of the analysis in detail, gave a a computer read out and sold us the correct amount of stabilizer. IMPORTANT NOTE...she DID NOT try and sell us her entire inventory of chemicals! After returning home and following her instructions....walla...crystal clear water. A day or two after we were enjoying our clean, clear pool I discovered I need a gasket for our filter diverter valve. Jeanette answered the phone when I called the store and walked me through how to measure the old gasket (no part umber on the old gasket) in order to make sure she would send me the correct part. She put it in the mail that day and I had the correct gasket and installed two days later.
Anybody in the Olathe area with a pool should consider yourselves lucky to have pool store as well stocked and staff as knowledgeable as Contemporary Pools. Jeanette is the most knowledgeable person I have meet on pool issues and is able to communicate in layman's terms with out talking over your head

Everyone is so nice! I mean, they'll actually talk to you. And they know what they're talking about. And they seem honestly happy when you're water analysis comes out perfect - even if it means you won't be buying anything. I almost wish I could work there. I definitely think home Depot, target, and just about every other retailer could learn a lot from the people at Swimfun

Rude and insensitive. I haven't been back since an incident in May where I was spoken to disrespectfully. Recently purchased a pool liner from another local company and I'm so glad I broke ties with SwimFun before I needed the liner. I like to support family-operated businesses, but there are other family-operated pool stores in town that treat customers with respect.

This place has a really fun set up, family run, great help from the workers, extremely helpful with pools. They will check a sample on the spot, which makes it really easy to know where your water is at all times.

I WOULD NEVER REFER OR USE THIS SERVICE AGAIN!!!!!!!.. for a month I paid for supposed weekly service and a $ 600 bill. You would think that the pool would be crystal clear. NO WAY. The owner couldn't tell when service had been done or what the diagnosis was . I never received an initial phone to explain what needed to fixed. The filter needed to be replaced it was quite clear. I knew that and I don't do this for a living. It seemed I was billed for services not rendered. I still have not been able to swim ONCE this summer. I, as a business owner would be concerned about the people I employ and the image about my livelihood. little bit shady. Two pool services in two days immediately noticed the issue. Hmmmm???? Finally a quality service is properly taking care of the pool. I only feel obligated to warn others of an inconvenience an overpriced lack of quality service

I have always enjoyed coming into your store and t...

I have always enjoyed coming into your store and talking to your incredibly nice and knowledgeable staff. Since learning about your store, I have always preferred to buy the majority of my pool chemicals and supplies from you and support your small business. This is a tough time for everyone and we are all feeling the stress in different ways.

However a few days ago (5/19/20) was a completely different situation...

Like any other time, I walked in with my pool sample and was gladly asked if I needed a test. To which I said yes. Once the results were ready the lady behind the counter suggested that I need several bags of salt. I asked a few additional questions as the results were being printed off. Only after I asked was I also told that the PH and Alkalinity were low and then offered a product for that. I responded something to the effect of "no thank you I have Baking Soda for that".

It was at this time that the lady behind the desk started lecturing me about how the tests are free with the idea that customers buy their products... how shes been sacrificing and working every day since the stay-at-home order started, and how is a small business suppose to stay open when people like me go and buy products from big stores like Wal-Mart.. and then suggested why don't I just go there instead.

I stood there for a second awestruck at what had happened. I then responded "whoa whoa whoa, what do you mean, I just said I wanted to buy 12 bags of salt. I feel like your being a bit rude." That was when not just the lady I was talking to, but also the man behind the counter, piped up and said "Yea, well it goes both ways".. I stood there for another second still dumb founded by what was taking place. Then I simply said "Thank you" and left my pool bottle and pool test on the counter and walked out.

This is not how you treat customers. I understand if someone is being difficult or complaining. But all I did was say "No Thank You" to something you were suggesting while still wanting to purchase something else.

Further more, you have no idea about other peoples personal situations (both financial and health related). We have ALL been affected by this pandemic in different ways. So to get that frustrated over the refusal of a $20 product when I am looking to buy $120 worth of salt is strait up RIDICULOUS!

What you didn't realize is in addition I was also going to buy a new pool hose and a discharge hose. Which most likely would have doubled the over all sale.

So with that I would end on this: I am not happy with the way things ended and I hope your small business IS able to weather the economic storm this pandemic has brought with it. But, now, it will have to do it with one less customer. I know people have bad days. I had attempted to call and speak with the owner about this prior to writing this letter.
