Best ER experience ive had. They took my bf right back did their quickest and best to make him comfortable and the doctor was amazing. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the rooms with blue chairs are as the nurse put it "patient has to be out of chair to lean back and climb into it unsafely" they should have chairs that you can be more comfortable in.

My experience with Sutter have been generally positive, especially at this one in particular. They are always compassionate and friendly which I can NOT say the same for other hospitals (Looking at you, mercy san juan). I don't want to say exactly what happened but there was one particular night that the nurses went above and beyond what would be expected from them and I will never forget it. Some of them are truly angels in disguise.

I came to this hospital for chest pain last night ...

I came to this hospital for chest pain last night and I sat in the waiting room for an hour before I got fed up and left. Its obvious my health isnt important to these people and neither is anyone else's. I watched a guy come in bent over in pain and you guys had him sit and wait as well. What is the use of having an emergency department if our conditions arent going to be treated as emergencies? This is the most backwards hospital I've ever been to and every doctor and nurse needs to be fired and this whole hospital needs to be shut down, its a waste of time.I will never come here again or bring anyone to this hospital, its obvious they will let you die. I also suggest that anyone who needs emergency care go somewhere else this hospital is a joke. And when I find out why I'm having chest pain(tests are being ran by doctors who care), and if its something serious, I'm going to need to be compensated for you guys playing with my life! I would give -0 stars if I could.

I brought my boyfriend into the ER here because he...

I brought my boyfriend into the ER here because he was feeling consistent discomfort for about a week in his lung/abdomen area. Not pain, but discomfort to the point that it was stressing him out and making it hard to do normal activities. Anyway, not sure if this was regular protocol and I just have high standards, but our experience here was terrible. First red flag was my boyfriend discussing his vitiligo with a "doctor" who didn't even know what it was. He literally said, "how do you spell that? Never heard of it." Ummmm are you serious? I honestly laughed in shock because I've never seen nor heard that type of thing from a doctor in my life. You are supposed to feel comforted knowing you're in the presence of a medical professional who has perfected his practice to a T. Not questioning whether he even knows what he's doing. He then proceeds to take his blood pressure THROUGH his thick sweatshirt sleeve, not asking him to remove it so he could wrap it on his bare arm. How are you supposed to get accurate vitals when the band is not even against your skin? Next doctor we went to for blood draw, LITERALLY did not say a SINGLE WORD from the moment we stepped in his office, he didn't say "So we're going to be drawing your blood" or "first I'm going to wipe your arm and insert the needle" or in anyway explaining what was going on, not even a hello or goodbye, not one word. He then proceeds to tie the string AROUND HIS SWEATSHIRT (to DRAW BLOOD) just like the last doctor did! He was very rough with my boyfriend and tied the string so tight that it pinched his skin THROUGH HIS SWEATSHIRT and left bruises!! Through his sweatshirt!!!! (I have pictures) Finally after waiting almost 2 hours (which is not at all why I'm upset, I know ERs get busy and hectic) this nurse walks in the waiting room FULL of people wheeling in a big vital machine to take his vitals again in front of a room of people. She then proceeds to talk openly and LOUDLY in front of everyone about him eating "boring foods," no spicy no alcohol or caffeine etc. Excuse me what happened to patient confidentiality?? It was so awkward sitting there having a private conversation announced to a room of 20 or-so people. I have the paperwork, they never gave him medicine or any advice on how to fix the discomfort except not to eat spicy food (which doesn't make sense because he felt discomfort in his lung? So how would that have anything to do with it? And if so could you give me a little more information or explain the problem?) overall there was never an official diagnosis, she literally never even told him what COULD have been wrong with him or what MIGHT have caused it. Nothing. We left with just as many questions as we came with. Oh, except that he, for some reason, can't eat spicy food. The whole experience felt very rushed and dismissive. I know they have much bigger problems to deal with in such a busy ER and I totally understand that, but people who come into an emergency room are scared and in a vulnerable state, they want to be helped and comforted, not rushed or have our problems minimized. Countless times he told them he had discomfort NOT PAIN and they still wrote in the paperwork "pain in lungs." So he is getting falsely diagnosed because we were being rushed? Another thing that was really outlandish/third-world to me, was that they had patients in their hospital beds IN THE HALLWAYS, like literally sick people coughing, laying down sleeping, or just looking overall unwell, laying right out in their beds in the hallway. Whether they were over-crowded or whatever the case was, I have NEVER seen anything like that in my entire life. The sick patients didn't have masks on or anything. I just couldn't believe that they would have sick/vulnerable patients out in the middle of the hallway for everyone to see, like a display. And also risk exposing everyone else to their germs or bacteria. I have never experienced a hospital visit even close to this in my life. I didn't even know it was possible for doctors to be unprofessional or "inexperienced."

This place is not the place to go.. The staff where very unprofessional in the conversations they had and how they went about treating patient's. The triage nurse called me over to start triage with me while she was still working with another patient on the other side of the counter. On top of that they took me back did the testing then put me right back in the waiting room after giving me pretty sedating meds as well... and to top it off the doctor didn't bother to bring me to a private room to tell me what they had found.. she just told me right in the waiting room with other patients sitting and listening to her talk woth me!!??? Talk about lack of of privacy and not to mention HIPPA Laws!

We transferred from one hospital to Sutter Memorial Hospital when my son was just 6 weeks old. He had Group B Strep and doctors at the old hospital thought it may have turned into meningitis. Upon our arrival at Sutter Memorial Hospital the staff was very nice, informative, and welcoming. We spent 2 weeks at Sutter Memorial on their pediatric floor. They were ALWAYS very nice. I did NOT get an attitude or bad look from even one staff member. The hospital was very clean all the time! They went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We were there for Christmas, and Santa even brought my children gifts!
I feel that Sutter Memorial Hospital gave my son top of the line care, and they couldn't have been any better.
Thank you to all of the doctors and nurses that helped my baby boy! He is now 2 years old and so smart, and active. You would have never guessed he had GBS as a baby!
Thank you with my whole heart!!!

These actions are outrageous. It is my opinion that anyone involved in the gross malpractice of calling CPS because parents sought a second opinion needs to be looked at carefully by professional organizations such as AMA and appropriately disciplined. Outside of the legal implications, professionals must realize that they are accountable to other peers who are rightly called to judge their work worthy of their profession.

I have never, every wrote a review for anything online. But Sutter Memorial really does deserve one. They have the best staff ever. I have my first child there in 2009 and will never forget their such caring treatment which is exactly what a new mother needs after going through labor (no matter how long or short the labor has been). I'm also planning on having my second child there in a couple of months and looking forward to another great experience. The nurses are amazing in the maternity department.
Not only that, this hospital is the only one that was willing to treat a little girl from Ethiopia with brain tumor that left her blind. They took out her tumor FREE of charge while every other children hospital denied her because she was poor and couldn't afford to pay for her treatment. I would never forget that about them. May God bless their good heart.
All in all, even though they are not located in the most convenient place or in the most modern building which nearly is not even as significant as the medical treatment they give, the important thing is they know what they're doing and they are doing an outstanding job of it. I would recommend it to anyone and have been doing so.

My dad has had the best care here. The cardiac floor staff and the orthopedic floor staff have all been great. The ER staff was also so good with him. I especially want to point out his ER nurse Khyle, Ortho floor nurse Grace and cardiac floor nurse Baba. He really has not had a bad one in all his visits. Thanks for taking extra good care of him. All of the physicians have also been wonderful. They were very helpful and clear on his condition and care plans. Kudos to you all.

I lost sleep and had so much anxiety and fear over having this procedure, but they all put my mind at ease. They are the best medical team ever. Thank you so much for taking such good care of me.

Don't walk in here if you're seeking a little bit of relief from depression and resources for when you leave. Someone might talk to you for 20min and decide to place you on an involuntary 72h hold. The social worker who did this didn't care if/how my cats would be fed. I was left sitting in the middle of the hallway with a gown on. I wasn't allowed to keep personal sanitary items. Nurses were rude. No one explained the situation very well to me.

I was their excellant excellent candidate for lase...

I was their excellant excellent candidate for laser ablation in 2016 so they said. They didn't go in as deep as they thought they would thank God or I would be really really messed up. I went through almost a year of testing to take the chance that this might help my uncontrolled seizures. Turns out all my testing showed that my focus point was exactly as I had in 2000 at UCSF. Not really hard to see where they are coming from when I had open surgery years back for removal of an avm at that same spot. Not the less they were very proud they "found my location" and I could be #78 there at the Sacramento Sutter hospital. I woke up from surgery w major blurry vision and unable to read. My surgeon Dr Samuel Circillo never came to see me after surgery. He only sent his nurse who could not and would not answer my questions. I drove back for my follow up appointment from out of town, for him to be a no call no show once again. I had major hypersensitivity to noises and had to get therapy in order to learn to read again. I also have to take 3 medications now and had my 1st grand mal ever! I did not expect to get seizure free, but I did expect a little less activity but most certainly not worse!!
My epileptologist send me to talk to a Dr in San Francisco who read my case at Sac. Sutter hospital and he said they make it look clean and perfect on paper. I guess none of my "oopsy" got put on their records so they are so happy with their Success. I have had seizures most of my life and met many many doctors but I am so completely discusted by this team that my trust is absolutely gone. I feel like I was just research and nobody took the blame
Now their is a device for people like me called Neuropace and if Sutter hadn't messed me up. I may have gone for it.

Don't put your faith in this proud "team." I asked for the good, the bad and the ugly when deciding to do laser ablation and they had nothig bad to say. I also asked many many times to speak to a recent and recovering patient whom they did have someone call me but guess what? She had never even had brain suegery! Just wanted to chat about seizures.

I am still fighting and had about 10 partial seizures today but please don't ever go through this as their research. How dare they show this as a success and not even show up. Very unprofessional!

I don't even know where to begin. The whole exper...

I don't even know where to begin. The whole experience for my poor daughter who went to this horrid place to have her baby was a total nightmare. First of all the rent a cop at the front desk was clueless. Then the nurse at the front desk of L&D was rude and asked my daughter what she needed, really? My daughter was obviously there to have a baby. Then she told her to have a seat in the main lobby, where she waited for at least 30 minutes, where a ghetto family with about a dozen annoying screaming kids were also waiting. When she was finally in triage, one of the nurses proceeded to draw blood and hurt my daughter so badly, she thought she was going to faint. Then my daughter felt a gush of fluid and told the same incompetent nurse who said it was probably just pee and didn't bother to check. They were actually going to send her home but my daughter and son-in-law smelled the fluid themselves and confirmed it was not urine. Up to this point the whole staff was rude and seemed to have no compassion. Once she was taken to her room, the two nurses she had, I have to say were both very nice. Unfortunately, after their shift was over, a new moron came on. After my daughter received an epidural, this idiot inserted a catheter because she said she had to empty her bladder. My daughter screamed in agony but she had no sympathy or compassion. What happened to bed pans? Apparently, there were a total of 4 urinary catheters that my daughter had inserted with in a 24 hour period, that we were not aware of. I even heard a couple of nurses tell my daughter throughout her stay that she was most definitely going to get a UTI. The nurse was very inconsiderate, giggled and made stupid comments about not being able to find the doctor, who by the way, when he did come, was the only competent and professional individual in the room. Unfortunately, after 25 hours of labor and an unsuccessful attempt to deliver the baby with the vacuum, Dr. Guile decided there was no other choice but to deliver the baby via C-section, which by the way, he did a fabulous job. He explained everything throughout the procedure, which put us at ease. During my daughter's stay in the maternity unit, there were maybe 3 or 4 nurses who were excellent at their jobs. They were very caring, helpful and accommodating to the needs of my daughter and my grandson. However, I can only recall the name of two, Rosalie and Susan. The others were obviously there just to earn a pay check. Another annoying thing was when the housekeeper came in. We thought she was just going to empty the trash cans or restock the paper but she started moping the floors and practically our feet. The four days that my daughter spent there seemed more like an eternity. Over all the experience at Sutter Medical, with the exception of a handful of staff members, was a very disappointing one. I would never want any of my loved ones to ever be hospitalized there. It may look really fancy and modern but obviously looks are deceiving. By the way, two weeks after my daughter was home, she developed a fever and chills. It turned out she did develop a UTI. This is a never event, and I should have known better since I work in infection control. Why was she not prescribed antibiotics at the time of discharge if she had been guaranteed to get a UTI? I can only thank God for giving my daughter the strength to get through it and that she and my new grandson are home and healthy.

Never never go to Sutter memorial hospital for emergency. This past year and once this year after dealing with the after math of my pregnancy and today each time I had went, only 1 out of 5 acted like they truly cared about me. Just because the hospital is located in a not so good area, doesn't mean everyone that enter there are drug users. They treat me like am there for drugs. Ever accrue to you I need medical help and am not there to get a fix.

Cause I felt very misunderstood to the point that the ER doctor misunderstood my panic attack and misdiagnosed me and placed a 5150 on me. This is the first ER in 12 years to see it necessary to do this. I've lost count how many ERs have seen me for the very same thing none of them put this hold on me and then transfer me to a mental facility in another city all without my families knowledge. Not very compassionate at all. So I do not recommend this hospital to anyone.

From the start of my ordeal which began with emergency surgery on my 38th bday in Oct 2015 (Thank you Dr. Chan for saving my life & to the whole surgical crew for singing happy bday to me while stapling me shut. Sorry I missed it, lol! ) Sutter has always been a comfortable, clean, welcoming place and Ive ALWAYS come in through the emergency room since every problem Ive had has been an emergency. I havent always been the best patient- in fact quite difficult at times, but the staff have been unbelievably kind and knowledgeable and patient with me. All my visitors marvel at the facilities which include a gift shop you could browse for hours on end, a cafe with some of the best coffee ever & even a wide selection of vending machines with healthy stuff available 24-7. Friends are surprised at the professional & attentive care I receive here even after being very surly and disagreeable with my nurses. I still feel loved when I least deserve it, theyre amazing and I shouldve let them know it. I dont know where I'd be without this place. Having been a Kaiser member most of my life until recently (though I was never ill my entire life nor had to admitted to a hospital until that birthday) & having accompanied a friend to a different Sacramento NON-Sutter emergency room in Jan 2017; I don't EVER want to find out what my life would be like without Sutter...if I even HAD a life at all! I hate hospitals, but when I HAVE to go I honestly LOVE this place.

After dealing with Sutter's continued over and rebilling of already paid accounts I stopped going there. My sister just recently had to have surgery and had no option but Sutter General. I tried calling the nurses station for an update as I now live several hours away only to have my call go direct to my sister who has been trying to get assistance from a nurse for some time. I called back to the front desk and this time was routed to a nurse's station and they stated they would check on her immediately. The poor experiences continue with Sutter General.

This medical facility is awful, both in service and practice.

Their nurses/doctors not only severely misdiagnosed my good friend's 5 month old child (giving him antibiotics when not necessary) but considered open heart surgery without anything other than visual observation. This child ONLY had flu-like symptoms, which were confirmed by another hospital.

The hospital proceeded to send police to the hospital my friend had taken her child to, and then called CPS to have the child taken from their home after convincing child protective services that the child was being severely neglected.

I have no review of what kind of hospital experience you can expect if you don't have children, but I wouldn't attend this facility even if they were the only medical option for me.

Gave birth to my first child here on Christmas Eve. My experience couldn't have been better. First, they are food friendly while in labor, BIG YES! Alot of hospitals don't let you eat while in labor. Second, they were so supportive of my decision to not get an epidural. Big shoutout to nurses Cheryl and Valerie, my favorite nurses in my 3 day stay. Super nice, had character, and supportive. They encouraged me to stick to my goal to have an unmedicated labor/delivery. Gave birth to my daughter in two pushes. I had such a great experience. I will definitely birth the rest of my children here!!!

I hope you never have to deal with Dr. Varjavand. Absolutely unprofessional. In 4 months, kept bouncing appointments later and later and when finally saw the patient, he only spent 7 minutes tops, while answering 2 phone calls and rushed out quickly. 2nd appt. He showed up an hour after the appt. was juggled around and accommodated.
When they call you for appointments, their number is different than the one they give you.
When they say we have a horrible health system in our country, they are the epitome of that example.
