Sun Island Resort & Spa Reviews

It's one big hotel resort covered with lot of greenery and gardens. It's about 30 min flight from Male international airport to Mamigili airport and then short 10 min speed boat ride.The Watervillas are beautifully laid out to view either Sunrise or sunset. The beaches are clean with white sand beaches. Baby sharks and sting rays are common sight . All types of watersports are available however it's comparitivly costly. The ARAMU SPA experience is something that no one should miss out on. It's set in individual open cottages surrounded by lush green gardens however at same time offers extreme privacy for couples. The night offers best view of the sky and perfect for star gazing( which most often is not shared by many).The food spread was delicious with variety of cuisines. They do have photography services too at extra cost. Overall it offers a wonderful maldivian experience.

Nice place, exelent service, nice food, only downzize is that everything is werry costing. (12 us $ for a Corona beer, 2,5 us $ for 1,5 l. water .)

Water sports activities are super super expensive.
All items in the accomodation are chargeable despite of being exorbitantly charged for the a single day stay!
Staff aint compliant and didn't inform about the chargeable stuff in the room ...highly disappointing

Paradise on earth. Best if planned for a week or so. Not for a shorter stay. Atleast one day on water villa is recommended. Standard beach bungalow has good beach in front of room n supeior beach bungalow has water just 50 ft from room. Got free full board upgrade wen dinner plan was booked. Food is fantastic at mania restaurant. Many other options at many other restaurants. Snorkelling places in front of rooms around no 300 are best. Buy snorkel n mask on amazon for 10 $ n come over.. As snorkelling gear is 10$ per day. Lots of colorful fishes. No need to go diving.
Get a waterproof cam wen coming.

Loved it! Everything was wonderful. The beach bungalow, the food, the staff were very nice. There are plenty of activities you can enjoy if you want something else besides staying on the beach and swimming.

The top, high-level service, a very large island, a well-kept garden, the resort is an excellence, it offers recreation for all and for all ages

We stayed in December 2018 in this wonderful place, it's pretty much the best for those who want to escape from the daily routine, we celebrated our honeymoon and we were welcomed and 'pampered' throughout your stay. The highlight of the island is of course the ocean, where maglifica bathe in that water is something indescribable, beaches all different and special in their mean that you will never get bored, there are several rooms and are almost always all but oddly filled the beaches are always semi-deserted .. postcard! there are several restaurants onsite, where you get a drink, all very good and fresh, staff really prepared and so, from the waiters to the cooks to the cleaners, the latter fact pass even 2/3 times a day in the room to clean and tidy up the whole ... really a dream vacation! recommended

A large, beautiful, well-maintained and varied island.

I must say right away that my wife and I did not live on this island, we lived on the neighboring Holiday Island. We visited Sun 3 times and studied it quite well during this time.
Very beautiful, well-groomed, huge territory. Here, of course, everything is ambiguous - these long distances, too neat tiled paths, cars darting everywhere, a lot of cyclists, a lot of people. All this does not contribute to the feeling of being on a paradise island, sometimes you even have to convince yourself that you are on the island. )))
There are a lot of Russians, which of course does not interfere and does not annoy, because here all the same, most of the people are elite (not like in Turkey for example;)). But perhaps for some, this information will be important. Communicating with other vacationers, we also came across the opinion several times that it was very crowded and even a little uncomfortable. But this is of course subjective.
This has been said many times in reviews, but I would like to repeat it. There is a good reef behind the Italian restaurant, enough to get acquainted with the underwater world.)) Some travelers even crossed out the lists for outbound snorkeling, having found out about this place. Because if the same thing, why pay more? )))
Regarding food and accommodation, given that Sun Island and Holiday Island are the same hotel chain, I can assume that the food was just as good and varied. The houses were different - with their own access to the water, with not very good access and rocky shore, with a distant location from the water line, but with a spacious sandy beach. There are water bungalows, but this is certainly not for everybody.)))
Of the beauties, there is a sand spit that goes far into the ocean and sometimes you can catch a picture when, 200 meters from the shore, people sit on the sand or in the water and talk or frolic in shallow water)))
In our opinion, this island is more suitable for families with children or large groups, there is a lot of entertainment, options for spending time and of course there is a swimming pool! )))
If you want a more peaceful secluded holiday, then take a look at the neighboring island Holiday Island, and for entertainment (if you have time), you can ride a free boat on Sun even every day.

Sun island and resort is very beautiful resort in Maldives with blue lagoon water , if u want spent your vacations in beautiful and calm place than u need to go there . they have everything whithin there island, u can saty there more than 10 day and still dont want to go back , huge restaurant with a variety of foods , infinity swimming pool with bar and they have all water activities , night entertainment activities and also they have amazing spa . Very big island u need to rent out a bicycle to explore the island ... resort staff is very friendly and good natured from international airport u need to take domestic flight to reach there and it's cost u around 230 USD for round trip ( that one already booked by hotel or resort ... just u need to contact there hotel staff at airport they will take u to domestic terminals and give u tickets after that u need to pay this amount when u reach hotel or resort)

Best place. Travel tip - Book all inclusive package

The island it's a paradise, the view from the superior beach bungalow it is really beautiful but the room is out of date, it really need a full renovation. This is not 4* resort maybe not even 3*, but it's clean. The all inclusive is not worthing, the food is so and so, if you don't like asian food it is a problem because you don't have many choises. A la carte is very good and expensive. The water in the room is 1l per person and is not bottled .. so even if you are all inclusive is the same and if it"s finished you have to buy. Inside the room we found many ants, all sizes .. i found on my hair when i was sleeping.For all inclusive just few places on the island to drink. The staff is amazing. Everything else was perfect.

Good resort with water bungalows and indian food and spa and many more

January 2020, not the usual island in the Maldives, you can swim every day in a different place, ventilated on one side calm on the other, varied and well-kept vegetation.
Privacy guaranteed despite the large number of guests, good quality international food, in short, a good experience

We loved our stay in Sun Island Resort. We had some problems with our room but they were solved immodiately. Loved the entertaining,specially Carlos and the singers was amazing. Beautiful place with amazing nature. For sure we will be back

Beautiful island, dreamlike scenarios, activities and complete excursions. To repeat

Sun Island, the big sister of Holiday Island, the island we were on. Have only made a day trip to Sun Island, so I can not go into the room and food. The beach on the jetty where you arrive is advised by Verwallung against water not very nice, the area itself very nice and well maintained, but me too large and spacious, the island feeling is already a bit lost.

A must visit place for vacation. It is really costly but worth it. Save for that big maldives vacation and enjoy it in full

Amazing place to nest for your honeymoon. Food variety, clean beaches, well maintained lawns, superb greenery round the island, exotic bar, comfortable lounges, amazing recreational activities, very helpful staff, great service and the most important thing of all you never feel like leaving this place.

Extremely beautiful resort. Super organized activities and the food is awesome.

I honestly have not been to anywhere with as much warmth and hospitality.

I suggest Half-Board meal plan for best value for money. Water bungalow is beautiful. However, if you are not big on swimming I suggest you lodge at Superior beach villas. It also has best value for money including proximity to the fun spots.

The security is amazing and everything works. Please note that there is no CCTV. Another downside is there is free WiFi only in the rooms and selected (few) spots like Main bar. Whatever the case I'd advise not more than a week stay for maximum fun.

I'd definitely look forward to a next visit.

Visited for 5 days 2 day's in superior beach bungalow and last 3 days in water bungalow for honeymoon. I'd say it's a perfect destination for honeymooners except free cautions...
1) Booking agent should be super active for that Neha Bhutani from Step up travels was extremely helpful, I suggest to visit their website for perfectly optimised and comfortable trip to Maldive. Even after check in she was very active to make my trip super smooth.
2) Except Zirar (pic), no one in reception have sense to resolve your issue.
3) Big adventure is totally misleading, you'll not find anything they advertise (110 $).
4) Dolphins excursion (59$) was good inclusive of drinks (hard and soft). You'll find mesmerizing sunset view if opt for sunset Dolphins. And you may find few Dolphins jumping far too away from your boat.
5) Buffet and services of superior beach bungalow was awesome with sea view, but for water bungalow it was less than average. The workers there doesn't seems to feel like serving food from heart. No smile no will to interact exactly opposite to what we experienced in the other buffet area.
6) Must go for snorkeling with professionals, and then skuba diving. If you know swimming that will be the best experience.
7) Don't miss shark feeding show at 6:30 PM in evening at water bungalow.
Overall it was a heartwarming unforgettable experience from a routine life away from tall buildings and crowded market places. I'd say Maldive and sun island is a thumbs up and I'll visit again with family.

A wonderful place to taste the essence of the Maldives. Staff cordial, there are all the facilities and suitable for couples and families.

Great paradise like resort. Calm and yet family friendly with loads of activities possible. Has its own dive centre and house reef for great snorkeling.

Island is great to enjoy with family.. Waters are so crystal clear and love the nature.

Coming to the water bunglaow located in fantastic waters.

Maintanance can be maintanied well and staff response is very slow ..

And food quality should be improved and also dinner in cuisines are very expensive.

Per meal you need to spend 60 to 100 Dollars for persons.

Also romantic dinner is very costly affair which costs $ 300.

Very good hotel. I really like it. I m here now. Near the island there are nanny sharks, they do not bite and stingrays swim. They feed sharks and stingrays every evening at the water houses. You can take bicycles for the whole family. If you cannot. take that there is a phone in the room, you press the number 1 and say Plis car and that's it, and a car comes for you. I advise you to take swimming masks with you, and arm ruffles for children. It's not boring at all. Lots of delicious food

Everything is nice, expect...... restaurant.
SoSo..... Thai food ..... Thai food is nice.....but......I think it is not very fresh. Maybe Maldives is too hot. (Fruit salad quite yummy)

Hello, the first impression was good upon arrival in Male, but going into the airport building immediately felt the village !! Having passed the border control, we finally got it! The waiting room smelled, there were no attendants, the fans work through one, we approach the hotel representative s desk, that the flight to the island of San Island will be in 3.5 hours, we sit sweating in the bath, after 2 hours they call to another hall of local airlines and then the fun begins, there is no plane at the promised time ~ we are sitting, moved another 2 hours, they also passed, people started to worry, but the flight again transferred for 3 hours, eventually began to resent, and the representatives of the airline company Flyme ~ 3 hens are young, they can t say anything intelligible, just go to sleep at the hotel, but the temperamental Indians, Italians called the police and went to the dismantling, we went through the search and returned several times in the end, flew 0h, 15m 14.05. 2018, 10 hours after arriving in Male, flew to Maamigili transferred to a boat, hit the San Island at one o'clock, fed sent on a holkar to the Standard room, spent the night. Lots of corals, no slippers! You ve asked for a room closer to the canteen, next to the Spa, the beach is cleaner, the depth is a little bigger in the groin area, the only entertainment is feeding down the slopes at 18.30 daily, go swimming for 204 numbers there is a normal depth and there are no corals, t, I worked there 4 years ago dredger, chose pesok.Eda in the canteen monotonous to 3, in general, and also all the remaining 3, unobtrusive service.

Definitely a paradise island. We had overwater villa bungalow. Everything was perfect. We received a welcome fruit basket with champagne bottle. The room was clean and the concept is unique. Private terrace over the laggon with stairs going in the turquoise water. They clean the room and change towels twice a day. Bike rental 6$/day so you can see the entire island easily. The full-board buffet is delicious. Freshly made food directly from the island prepared everyday by talented cook. Everything was perfect. You have everything on this small private island: swimming pool, gym, bars, minigolf, pool, arcade, soccer (football), badminton, darts, ping pong, stunning beaches, 7 restaurants, yoga, entertainment, excursions, spa&massages, photographers and many more ! This resort was definitely the highlight of our 1 month honeymoon.

Maldives to rest are great. This island is the most important. Rooms great. To the ocean a few meters. Part of the island kept in the wild. Regular feeding of mantas and sharks. It is interesting that customs officers stop alcohol on arrival and departure. Such an idiotic curiosity. It is better not to take it from Poland or return from the island.

Amazing location, amazing staff, extraordinary buggy drivers! The buggy drivers were the best and most friendliest people I've truly ever met in my life. They gave a feeling of belonging :).

It's a very nice and clean beautiful resort, but very crowded and lots of little children running around. Would be great for families traveling with children.

Had the most Amazing stay st the sun island resort. We we're well looked after by the most lovely, welcoming and very helpful staff team, They are very efficient, polite and friendly.
The resort is Amazing, stunning in every way and I would highly highly recommend a stay at this resort, we would definitely come again and plan to do so.

Hotel: The most expensive and most terrible vacation of my life. Room: never clean enough. Hotel consists of several hundred apartments and obviously saves the cleaning staff. No internet in the room. Those who needed wifi should stand next to a restaurant on the island and hope for a successful connection. And if it works, the internet is very slow, you definitely lose patience. Food: 1 small bottle per person per day for free. If someone is thirsty, they should buy water. Everything is expensive on the island. Small bottle of water - 5 EU, Red Bull - 7 EU etc. Lots of Russians and Indians who are incredibly loud. Very old and worn furniture. The television from the times of my great-grandparents. The room is big enough. There is no balcony, but there are 2 exits: one exit leads to the water and next to this exit there is a tap to wipe your feet. It is a wonderful experience when you wake up to the fact that strangers are playing with the rooster in front of your door, screaming and looking into the window.
Our room was always dirty. Badly we should stick notes: "clean here". Mirrors were always !!!! dirty. During the night you could hear the fan in the next room. The shower is outside and everywhere! but covered with mold everywhere.
The best: On the last evening there was a little sweet surprise from the hotel in the room: our drinks were removed from the refrigerator and the refrigerator was locked so that the guests, who paid thousands of euros for their vacation, didn't steal anything from the refrigerator.
A few more words about service: 1 main restaurant, a few bars, an Italian restaurant, an Asian restaurant, a salad bar.
Everything is expensive on the island. Nothing goes without a tip. The waiters work according to the principle: they first tidy the tables that the guests have already left and only then, if you're lucky, they serve the guests who are sitting in the main restaurant. Service in Italian restaurant is better. Quality of the food: we have already eaten something better. If you don't eat in the main restaurant, you pay a lot and it doesn't taste great. Choice of drinks: we enjoyed this game every evening: you order wine and find out in 15 minutes that the wine is missing. You order someone else - same story. At least five times and in the end you come to the fact that there are only 1 or 2 types of wine on the island. We were there over Christmas ..... we were really happy .... Waiters speak almost no English and are absolutely unable to think in advance. Staff is often unfriendly. Once we asked if we could get another table, closer to the "window", as the tables in that area were always free and most of the guests were seated next to the kitchen / heat or toilet. The answer was: Everyone wants to sit there! We can not do anything!!!! It was obviously about money again.

Good atmosphere , hospitality,great food,co-operative staff

The island is one of the largest, so there are many activities available. You can cycle around the island, play mini golf, volleyball, etc. The beaches are superb in any part of the island. The food is tasty and varied - Maldivian, Indian and Italian. The hotel's activities are numerous, as are the daily organized excursions. I recommend the SPA area, a perfect pampering after a full day in the sun and in the water. The island as a whole is very clean and carefully cared for. The rooms are clean and the staff very polite and helpful. The second recommendation is to have snorkeling equipment, it is a shame not to discover the wonders of the Indian Ocean.
