We had our daughter with this facility for few months. It has been almost waste of time and money. The basic class coaches are merely high school kids, who just spend time chatting with other coaches. Little time is spent with kids to find out what the kids are lacking and how could they improve skating skills. My daughter had been for nearly 3 months and we see zero improvement.
I do not even get chance to talk to the coaches, as they are always busy with their next session. The management is awful. Mark does not even care on my request for improving the quality of coaches. He thinks the coaches are the best in the world and he sees that he does not need to guide the coaches properly. Infact in one his email he stated that
he serves for wide audience as possible, but inevitably it doesn t serve everybody. So that means he does not care for everyone. He does not see any room for improving the things from his side. What can I say further.
The coaches spend hardly 20-25 min in the given 30 min short session. In this 20-25 min, warm up activities are given just to kill the time. And all they ask is to skate from one side to other. No special attention is given to each candidate. The ratio is almost 8 kids to 2 coaches. This ratio does not work in the given 30 mins short session.
Moreover they need a 2 month notice to discontinue them, when asked why this situation, they simply say it is the management decision.
I strongly suggest please do not go to Sugarland Ice Skating Center. It is a complete rip off, waste of time and money. Not worth it at all!!!
Good place to practice ice skating and/or taking lessons.
It's a very fun place to go to with friends and family. Great for winter fun! Although, the staff could smooth out the ice more often.
It's better than the ice rinks in Memorial City Mall or the Galleria, but it's not being kept up well. Their rental skates are all in bad shape too.
The most racist place I've been too. They need to get rid of all the young kids working there, they don't know customer service. I will never return or even recommend this place the ice rink sucks it'sway too bumpy!! way tooooo bumpy absolutely horrible. I wen
For skate lesson - 2 months is required for cancellation. If you request to cancel anytime after the 1st of the month, you've to pay classes for the rest of the month and the month after. It's in the contract, no exceptions. Most coaches are good, not bad for skate lesson. Just wish I planned better when it comes to cancellation.
We love the program! The coaches are great with the kids and the staff is always so caring. I've been with Sugar Land Gymnastics since they've started and have never had any issues. They keep up with each student to track their progress and have great communication with parents. We recommend this gymnastics gym to all our friends!
Employees are rude and inconsiderate of people who are learning to skate.
coaches are great! sessions are too short and there is no customer service what so ever.
The ice rink is really nice and the really well maintained compared to other rinks in Houston but the locker rooms are getting a little old and not as maintained as I would like it to be
The worst ice skating place I've ever visited. Went to have fun with friends and it was a terrible experience. Shoes smelled like they were 100 years old and were absolutely uncomfortable. The worst thing about the place is that they never heard about customer service. Personnel were rude and treated us horribly.
Facilities are nice and staff is friendly, but the ice sometimes isn't great and it can get really warm inside. Fabulous women's hockey league.
We had our daughter with this facility for almost 4 years. It seems we wasted our time and money here. The tods class coaches are high school kidos, who are just there to get paid. They spend 20-25 min. In warm up activities (essentially to kill time). There are no regular evaluations. They do it only when parents complain to the front desk to see where their kids stand. They are not at all accommodating when it comes to our schedule. Moreover they need a 2 month notice to discontinue them, when asked why 2 months, they talked about running a business and all. We noticed all these things when because of heavy traffic in that area, we moved to westwood gymnastics in katy. Not only they are more economical, they have incentives like pay less if you have autopay and all. They spend more time with kids, heavily involved with them, bigger facility, more coaches, professional office people and very frequent evaluations. Please do not go to sugarland gymnastics if you want to get value for your time and money.
They have a reduced cost some days and then you can afford to rent a "seal" to help your kid enjoy skating more from the first day.
Today is the test day(end of session). The ladies in the lobby would not check in my daughter because they said I did not pay for it. I paid two times a week in the shop at the beginning of the session. Now it is end of session and they said I did not pay. I asked why not letting my daughter go to the class while we figure out this mess. However they rejected me. They are not flexible and they don't care. It turned out it is their mistake. I asked for the director Julie and she went to the shop and found out I paid two times per week, but the shop people only entered one time per week in the system. The workers just don't care. They said they don't believe what parents say because most of the time parents are wrong and they are very dishonest. They said parents pay for one time a week but send kids two times a week. They use this to generalize all parents.
They implemented a scan card process to check in. Parents hand them a card, they will scan it and it takes time for them to search, and click the screen. Parents and kids have to wait in the line for several minutes each time. The lines are very long sometimes because the workers have trouble finding kids classes in the system. One time a little girl was late and her mom told her to go to the class while she was waiting in the line to check her in. She was yelled by the worker and cried. I don't know her name. She is an old lady often yells at parents that don't stand close to the glass.
They said they used punch holes before but parents just skipped that. Yes, that was because they were sitting in the lobby which is far away from the ice rink entrance, and parents could just bypass them. If they move to the entrance of ice rink, nobody could bypass them. It saves a lot of time to check in. These people have zero intelligence and don't care.
I want to give them zero star, but that is not an option here.
Never answers the phone. Called hours apart and no answer whatsoever.
Once the rink was under new management by the Feltus family, I saw a LOT of improvement. Sure, as with most rinks in Houston.. the ice can be brutalized by our summers, but the hockey is fun, locker rooms maintained, and pro shop stocked with the important stuff. The Aeros may be gone, but the spirit of hockey lives on!
Literally the best place to be he anyday of the week. This is a STAPLE of Sugar Land, I swear. Don't forget to say thanks to the pro shop staff, especially the guy that works mornings!
Can get pretty hectic during seasonal times but the staff is friendly and does their best to be helpful!
Great place although a bit messy and confusing, had fun tho !
Started skating here years ago, and just recently got back into skating! Love the environment and the people!
Looking for a place to Ice Skate? Perhaps take lessons? Or watch a hockey game? This is pretty much the only place in Sugar Land to do any of those things!
We had a great time. Not too crowded and friendly employees. Will definitely return.
Its girl time!!!
Clean facility however my daughter wears a size 11 and they didn't have new skates, she ended up wearing man's shoes that were pretty old but other then that the girls had a blast.
Adult league hockey has awful refs. Gets really dangerous at times.
They have horrible skates! But the staff are very friendly and nice :)
Great memorial day tournament, terrible ice. I skate in Lafayette and the ice is far better.
This place is amazing my kids have been going there for 3 school trips and every time they come home they are full of joy to tell me how much fun they had
Rink is a bit worn down but the kids loved skating. Prices are very reasonable
SLICE, as the cool kids say, is a great ice rink that we're lucky to have in our area. It's very accessible. There's not one, but two full size rinks. There's great lessons (group and/or private individual) to get you or your kids from first step on the ice to confidant on the ice, on up to competitive figure skating if you so choose. The coaches are great and there's clearly some that are at a very high level, and clearly some students that have been very successful at a high competitive level. If you're looking for a break from the heat or to learn new skills on the ice, SLICE is great!
I went ice skating there and had so much fun. They somtimes have the lights off and the disco ball on and slow music. You can hold hands and skate there as a couple. One time on skate with santa it was raining soap. My friend got some in her mouth and I got it all over me. You get the right ice skates . You dont have to worrry about somone stealing you there either because theres security skating around the rink. Have fun.
I had my skates sharpened here and payed ahead of time so I could pick them up another day, however when I returned I was told that I had not payed. The ticket I had was marked payed but the one on my skates was not. I was told I would have to pay again if I wanted my skates. I asked them to look for the transaction in their system and I was told that they would not find anything because I had not payed. After 1 hour they found out that I had payed and told me I could leave. When I was handed "my skates" I had to point out that they weren't even the same color or size.
The ice was worn way down. I brought my own skates, which does not lower the price of public skating any like it does pretty much anywhere else, and the ice was so thin in spots that I was afraid I was going to hit concrete and ruin my blades. I understand the ice can be fixed, but I have no intention on returning until they change their pricing policy to discount those who bring their own skates
My 3 year old daughter is learning to skate here. She is currently in the Snow Plow 1 class and she loves every minute of the 30 minutes she has on the ice. I have never seen her have as much fun as she does on the ice. The instructors do a great job of balancing instruction and fun.
Apparently the staff are rude and cheap, not tipping delivery drivers, instead giving them a handshake. What can you expect from such people? Do you think they would take care in providing a safe environment for your kids when they stiff drivers trying to earn money for their families?
While functional, you can skate on the rink, it s really difficult at times (especially when they haven t shaved the ice). The ice is pretty worn out, honestly. The staff was really kind, helpful, and nice to talk to. I just wish they kept up the place a bit more.
Been there on Sunday 1pm and surprisingly it was not crowed! Ice is good, but everything is very old and some parts damaged.
Went with 8 people, two groups and each transaction the cashier stated $6. I thought that was odd and cheap, I get home and see the charge $55.99. Two parties heard $6, when I called back she said I never said $6 . More than willing to pay the price, but don t bait and switch me. Should have looked and questioned my receipt at the time of transaction. It is was fun.
Worst place ever! The shoes smelled so bad and were so uncomfortable. The workers there (particularly this one fat white women) are so rude. They have no respect what so ever I took my son to skate and he changed his shoes 2 times. I asked her nicely and she just rolled her eyes. No respect at all don t go there !
Update: thanks Mark for taking care and signing up my kids! Looking forward to attending this weekend!
Could be a great place, if enough money was available for all needed repairs.
It was a nice ice skate ring and I enjoyed it very much but they didn t clean up the ring with the machine so I wish they at least clean the ring... otherwise it was very good! Come and enjoy! Cheers
I don't know why people are complaining about the ice here, as a Canadian, I think the maintenance is decent especially compared to other ice rinks (Galleria is the worst!!) My kids come here to learn skating and the coaches are pretty good. They can really put some more seating area outside at the lobby though so people can sit and change skates easily, especially most of the students are kids.
We send our daughter of 5 years old to their summer camp. First two weeks, there were not much complaints or anything. Starting from 2nd day of 3rd week, my daughter complained the calf of her legs were much painful even with very gentle touch, and her wrists were also painful. She had to stop going to the camp. When my husband went and asked whether it was possible to get some refund/credit for the days we had paid. He was told no, that was OK, because we knew that was the policy and we just wanted to check. Then when my husband said our daughter suffered pain, the people at the front desk said our daughter didn't really participate most of the activities during the camp. Oh, really? We would have appreciated it if you told us after her 1st week and before we registered for another 2 weeks!
This place has a lot of history for me, it was my first job in high school, I met my husband here as teenagers, husband proposed to me here. This place isn't a shiny as in its heyday when I was a teenager. The ice isn't as good/kept up, the proshop isn't much other than some jerseys and little things. That being said it still has memories and we are making more with our teenagers playing hockey there now.
I would rather go here than say to the Galleria for skating any day. This place is great to take your kiddos to skate, not too packed and plenty of parking.
I have had very bad experience with the management of Sugar Land Gymnastics lately. I registered both of my 3 yrs old and 6 yrs old daughters at their summer classes. While my younger daughter enjoys it fully, my 6 yrs old doesn't. Since the class that my old daughter goes to is girls I which is a little advanced for her(she is not very athletic, my mistake, shouldn't have registered her in the first place), I asked the front desk if i can let her try a level down, which is for mixed of 4 and 5 yr olds. They seemed not very willing, but agreed. When we went to the class the next time my 6 yr old didn't want to go in and try no matter how we tried to encourage her. I didn't want to push her to do things she didn't like, so I asked the front desk if I could use the rest of the money i paid for my 6 yr old as credits towards fall classes for my 3 yr old. The answer is no. I was told that I could only use the money for my younger daughter for this summer. I paid 10 classes for each of them and so far my younger daughter took 2 classes and old daughter just tried one. I couldn't possibly let my younger daughter take 17 classes during the rest of the summer. We have other schedules and classes as well. I asked to talk to the owner. When the owner called me he just repeated what I was told by the front desk. I told him that I think they are being very inflexible and unreasonable and I was going to report them to Better Business Bureau. I still can't believe what he said following. He said that he would refund for my younger daughter who is happy with the class now so he wouldn't have to deal with me again, but NOT refund for my older daughter. He said he was kicking us out and said that we were not allowed to go to the gym otherwise he would call the police. I was shocked by what I heard. I can't believe the owner of this place where little kids go and have fun can say something so rude and hurtful.
So parents out there, if you want to register classes at this place, make sure you ask clearly about their cancellation policy, otherwise you would probably have similar experience with us.
Such a good place to play hockey but they could use the money that parents pay for their kids to play hockey to remodel it on the inside.
That s why I rate this a 4 out of 5 star rating.
I coach at this rink and have been playing hockey here for several years now. The rink has had its ups and downs recently, but management has started to make repairs and is doing better at keeping up with building maintenance now. Hopefully things continue to improve, especially the ice!
This business suffers on many levels. There is very little staff working, causing too many problems to list. The manager (Carrie) treated us like we were gum on the bottom of her shoe and this was after we had to wait for her to get off her phone - while she bashed the owners and employees of the building. I guess that is why they have no employees and have postings everywhere looking for workers. This building smells and the ice is in horrible condition - large gaps between the boards and the ice - UNSAFE SKATING CONDITIONS. We asked for a refund due to poor ice conditions, boards and glass hazards which could cause severe cuts and lacerations and inappropriate music being played. We were told "sorry, no refunds" and she walked away. THIS IS NOT A SAFE ESTABLISHMENT
Very fun ice skating rink and it's popular during the weekends for public skating. It has seen better days though as things are starting to get run down and stuff isn't being repaired or cleaned up. The local restaurant and bar has been closed though since the rink came back from the temporary closure.
The ice is terrible in both rinks but rink b is the worst.
Rink A: Like an inch gap between the boards and the ice. Behind the net the ice dips down then in 3ft it goes up again. No place for the girls to change so the bathroom is always full and over crowded. The boy's dressing room is very small. They do not make it cold enough to keep the solid so the ice is always slush. There is no glass around the penalty box, so if a puck flew in there, the attendant would likely be injured.
Rink A: Ice is better, but still quite mushy. The girl's dressing room is legitimately an old janitour's closet painted pink. Boy's dressing rooms are very small as well. The ceiling over the stands drips, so spectators are constantly having to shift seats to avoid getting wet. The bathrooms are hideous. I don't think they ever clean in there. The trash bins are always full, there are crumpled paper towels all over the floor, the toilets are dirty, the walls are grimey, and basicly maybe one or two stall doors lock.
Lobby/skate rental area:
There's always trash all over the floor, the walls are dirty, and the trash bins are overflowing. I know the building is old, but it would look at least 10x better if they just kept it clean and maintained the place! Just recently, my brother's game was canceled due to high carbon monoxide levels because of the zamboni. They already knew about the monoxide levels because earlier that day someone had to be taken to the hospital because they passed out! Yet instead of canceling everything for that rink they still kept it open and risked the health of other patrons! Poorly run. They clearly do not know how to run a business.
PERMENANTLY CLOSED!!!! I bought the Groupon deal and planned an afternoon with my family but was surprised when we got there and saw the parking lot empty and signs on the doors. My 5 year old was extremely disappointed. No mention of the place closing on either groupon, the centers website or on the recorded phone message. Very poor management to take continue to take people's money when they know they are closed!
It's amazing at sugar land ice and sports center!!!!
Wonderful place, and the people working there were helpful giving information. Costs 13$ with skates.
Took a class today it's only 30mins and doesn't include the public skate session. They want to charge you another $14 for that, It's a rip off. I've taken classes at other rinks in the past and as a student you also got access to the public session at no extra charge. Also the place is kinda run down. It's a shame.
