super friendly guys, exploded my rim at northstar, called these guys in a panic. They had my wheel size in stock (they actually took it off a floor bike) and had me riding again in under 2 hours. Thanks guys!
Legit the only shop in the Tahoe area with ski racing gear. We drove around Tahoe looking for a place to buy race suits and this was the only place we found that had it. Definitely recommend this shop for ski racing gear!
Bought a Trance ADV 2 a month ago from Start Haus. Awesome service! I was in the middle of moving and they got me box, foam, and packed my bike for me. Best ski shop in the west US. Get your new boot fitting and skis here. Quality and customer service are A+. Start Haus is worth going out of your way to visit and make purchases at. Don't settle for mediocre alternatives.
Was passing through town needed some work done so I called to see if they could fix it now and they said they'll take a look at it , and sure enough they seen it was a quick fix and stopped there other project to get me otta there in about 15 min plus got some great info about the area , I been wanting to take a trip here for some mountain biking and what ever else then city had to offer great job guys I'll never forget you 2 thumbs up ;)
I'm a Truckee local and have always liked this shop. The only negative is that they inexplicably stopped carrying three piece ski boots. I am a ski coach and they are so comfortable that I refuse to wear anything else. I'll still buy all my other gear here but hope they see the error in not carrying such a popular boot style.
Best ski shop in the area. Great selection of skis and gear. Really nice staff, nowhere else are people this friendly and helpful. The boot fitters really know what they're doing and give free adjustments. They are great people and I've never been disappointed in something I bought from them.

Start haus charged my card but sold the item I bought to someone else didn't even send me a email till 1 day later, look elsewhere for items this company is about junk, and the person responding isn't the owner as it shows, he's the online sales man parading as the owner, grow up dude and handle business like you should I will be getting in touch with owner don't worry about that
Got my first pro boot fitting from Doug today. Very nice guy. I'm not a racer and don't spend time reading or researching the latest ski equipment. Doug made me feel perfectly comfortable. I recommend for anyone wanting to take the next step with custom fitted boots and skis. Can't wait to try my new gear on the mountain.

I INQUIRED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO MY VISIT ASKING IF I COULD MAKE A RESERVATION TO HAVE TWO SETS OF SKIS IN FOR BINDING ADJUSTMENTS. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD EASILY HANDLE IT ON A SAME DAY BASIS, JUST COME ON IN. WHEN I CAME IN, I WAS TOLD I'D HAVE TO LEAVE OUR SKIS FOR 5 DAYS. THERE'S A SERIOUS DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE PEOPLE ANSWERING EMAIL INQUIRIES AND THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE SHOP. FORTUNATELY, A NEARBY SHOP WAS ABLE TO SERVICE OUR SKIS IN LESS THAN A HALF AN HOUR. GUESS WHERE MY FUTURE BUSINESS GOES!

This is the place. Bring all 3 of my kids here (FarWest racer, teen Ski Team coach, and Big Mountain skier) and myself for every boot need we've had for the last half a decade. Heard this was the place to go in Tahoe for boot fitting on the internet and I think they were right. Although they do have a one year timespan where you can get your boots punched out for free after purchase, I won t be using it because my boots were fitted perfectly in the first place.

Disappointed. Walked in looking for cross country skis and or boots and they said I needed an appointment despite the fact that there wasn't a single customer in the store but me. In any case, they said they don't carry telemark or cross country ski boots and didn't suggest any other places to try.
StartHaus is fantastic. Excellent selection of ski and bike gear, and the service is nonpareil. James did excellent work on my Scarpas. Looking forward to getting back out on them again, either on Shasta or next season.
Brought 2 pairs of new skis and new boots to Jim to have them tuned and the boots worked on. I came all the way from Kentucky. Although I didn t buy them from there, I was treated like I had. Skis were perfectly edged and tuned. Jim spent all day fitting my difficult feet and never tried to sell me additional items. His punches were on mark and his cants to correct my alignment were awesome. I went to Alpine to test them out and came back that same day to have them fine tuned. Both my skis and boots feel better now than when I left over a week ago. I probably won t go anywhere else for my boots in the future probably to Jim s chagrin.

Lead mechanic Aaron is the real deal and was very helpful and patient when tuning the suspension to my liking.
I ended up having an issue with the rear brake after a couple weeks, no problem, Aaron replaced the rear caliper on the house in 30 minutes right before closing time. Thanks Aaron!

Quality shop. I lived in Verdi. Tried a few different shops in Reno, but never left very impressed with the mechanics/price/value. I am willing to pay if the quality of work deserves it. Start Haus mechanics were great to work with. Knowledgeable and friendly. Shop price was affordable. Turn around time on repairs and trouble shooting was always fast. Shop was well stocked. I worked with Mark and Aaron mostly. Both did great work.

Best ski shop and bike shop in Truckee for sure. The techs know what they are doing but aren't so aloof as other places. If you need ski boots fitted, skis tuned or your bike worked on this place should be your fist choice.

After skiing many days on my old K2 Apaches, I thought it best to get a professional tune up. I brough them to 'another ski shop' and they were ruined. They wondered in the flat hard pack and the tails would break away when finishing a tight carving turn. I brought then into your shop and you tuned them up. They are better than new! I am so relieved. May thanks to Wilson.

The locals choice for ski tuning and better yet the bike shop. Aaron keeps my Santa Cruz spinning like a top. It good to be able to trust your toys when prepped by the pros at Start Haus. Great all around shop for Mtn Bikes and Alpine skis. Managed by locals who all ride and ski better than most of us.

Great staff! They we're ready to help and took care of cutting down a seat post for us in less than 3 min! It is so refreshing to have friendly staff that know what they are doing. I would go back and purchase from them or get work done happily.
Hands down, this oasis of skis, boots, and customized fitting services deserves five stars. A friend told me about Start Haus and I'd checked out their online presence before booking my appointment for boot fitting. First off, the store (new location) couldn't be any easier to get too, located right off of 80. Secondly, everyone in the shop is professional and accommodating. I was running an hour late for my fitting due to a pile up on 80; I called to say as much and the person on the phone was accommodating and let me know they'd do what they could when I got there. Mike did my fitting and I was bracing for the worst in terms of expenditure, because I'd heard things could get pricey. To my surprise (and this still has nothing to do with the absolute professionalism of the shop) my boots where actually good and only modification was suggested. After determining that my current inserts where also good, Mike evaluated my foot and boot and proceeded to make a few punches to allow my foot more room in the front (due to bunion). Wow!!! What a difference when I got on the snow later that day. The boot felt altogether different and I wasn't in wrenching pain. This place is the real deal -- excellent selection of skis & boots and exemplary service & knowledge. Thank you Start Haus -- I'll definitely be back. This is the epitome of a great local business!!!
