Most of the staff was amazing. I definitely favored a couple of them. One that stood out the most was Kim. She is such a sweet lady. The Dr's and nurse team I had for my C section were amazing. Respectful and kind. Everyone has definitely tried to make me as comfortable as possible. There was only one problem I had. And it's with the kitchen staff. Every time I got my meals things were either cold, super cold, or not even cooked fully. But besides that, I adored Suzie and Kim very much as my nurses! And I hope they know that they are well respected. I had an issue with one of the nurses. And when I expressed my concerns. The charge nurse immediately took action. I'm thankful for that!

I was brought to the hospital department of the hospital by ambulance at 7:30 am on Sunday, August 18, 2018. Passing the ambulance I was sent straight to the office. The ambulance officer handed over my package of documents to me and said that I speak conversational Anlitz but do not know the medical terminology and I need an interpreter. He was assured that they have an interpreter working on the phone and able to operate with the knowledge of my language. After the ambulance workers left the maternity home, they lost my written explanation in English of what I was hurting, and they forced me to stand up and go to the urine test independently, despite the fact that I could not stand on my own and almost lost consciousness in the toilet. I was not given a translator, my urine tests were not sent for examination until 10 am, I was waiting for a doctor's examination for at least 40 minutes, and on the ultrasound that the doctor appointed me after the examination I was taken to 11:40 pm! Ie from 7:30 am to 12:30 they did not even have the results of my examination. And all this time my condition worsened! During the time spent in the hospital, I was never offered a single anesthetic or asked whether I was cold or not. What is there to say, I was not offered even a piece of ice. I'm the only one grateful to them that they've patted my child and told me that he's fine. In the rest, the hospital's Persanal was absolutely not polite and not attentive to me. This is the most expensive and worst hospital in our district. And I'm very sorry that I had the experience of getting into it.
PS: Lastly, when I was discharged home, they gave me a paper to sign, to my question what kind of document, the medsesta told me that this is a document that she gives me my medical record and recommendations. I signed it and took the papers ... When the next day I got a little awake and read what I was given in my hands and gave it to sign, it turned out that I signed a form that agrees with the treatment and recommendations of the doctor conducted in the hospital, and The remaining documents were descriptions of difficult situations during childbirth and cases in which you need to go to the hospital. IE, the papers had nothing to do with my case either with the doctor's recommendations or with medical records. I just cheated that I signed the documents they needed in the hospital. Since, no treatment was given to me at all, they just examined my child and made sure that he was not at all embarrassed that I was not okay. I was not offered to change the department and did not check the kidneys, but by analysis I had blood in my urine! And with this blood I was just sent home !!!
Horrible Mental Health unit. Daughter completely misdiagnosed by Amy. As my daughters own outside therapist as well as 2 OTHER assessments as well as High School Counsler all had stated either rehab for drug abuse or out patient services. She decides to lock us in for 11 hours and have her admitted to inpatient which would be fine if addressing drug issue but Amy decided that wasn t important right now. Literally said the words we don t have to address the drug problem right now! My 12 year old daughter even knew, address the drug issue first! Complete idiot that doesn t care!
This is strictly a community based medical center you should come for minor readily solved issues , major more complex issues you should go to Advocate Lutheran General which is a Level 1 trauma tertiary hospital with medical school affiliations. The ER is a magnet for individuals with psychiatric issues as the behavioral health hospital is quarter block to the east. As for over powering bill issues file a medical Chapter 13 bankruptcy which pays the bills at a rate you can afford and sometimes actually boosts your credit scores
This hospital is prejudice, unwelcoming and I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!
I wish I could give 0 stars, but it wouldn t allow me to do so.
Whee to start, I was called 4-5 times by 4 or 5 different people giving me different pre-op instructions and different times for the surgery.
My registration was a disaster and the check in staff are bigots. I was walked back to the nursing station for vitals. I had the most amazing nurse and tech, they were both patient, sweet, kind and genuinely concerned. I wasn t given any sort of run around from either of them.
The nurse (again was amazing) reviewed my medications, history, etc. He went into great detail as to what I should expect from start to finish. This information was great but would have been even better had anyone of the pre-op receptionists informed me of this prior. I was originally told I should expect to be here 2-3 hours after surgery, well no, that was no longer the case, now I needed to add additional, lengthy tests. I even added an extra hour for late start or technical difficulties. Well, now I have to completely change my pick up time by 3-4 hours. My sister was not available to pick me up at that time and also rearranged her children s schedules and her own work schedule to be available at the time I was originally given.
Needless to say at this point I m furious but trying very hard not to take it out on the nurse or staff. So we go into detail about the times and told him that s not going to work for my ride and that I d need to come up with a plan b, and if not, I would have to take an Uber home. He said that wasn t allowed since someone needed to come in and sign for my discharge papers. And, if I didn t have a family member come and pick me up, they wouldn t proceed with the surgery because it s a liability on their end.
So let s recap, I received 5 different sets of pre op information, I received specific times for the surgery that were changed three times, I never received a call back on pre op clarification, I had to change my work schedule (again) I had to come 5 hours earlier than scheduled (was notified the day before) the front desk staff was disgusting, I received BRAND NEW information about post op testing, I was told we probably cannot do the surgery if I didn t have a family member come get me.
How is any of the information I listed above acceptable in a medical work environment?? You are not doing any of this work for free, you are being paid thousands and thousands of dollars from my insurance, you are paid for every single second of your time, your time is not more valuable than mine, your schedules do not supersede anyone else s and your disregard to patients and their time is unacceptable.
It took me an hour and a half to adjust everyone else s schedule to make sure someone was available to pick me up. Luckily my sister was still able to pick me up, albeit she had to wait two hours.. since everything was pushed back.
I will never, EVER, IN MY LIFE, ever, set foot into this hospital or any of its affiliations ever again. I would rather be treated at cook country or die, rather than ever come here again and pay for this disservice.
This type of treatment, lack of regard to my time and lack of communication is a lawsuit and a disaster waiting to happen.
I did check the online reviews prior to coming here and I wish I would have listened to my instinct and stayed as far away as possible.
If you love yourself or your family members, please seek medical attention elsewhere.
And please, I would appreciate it if your generic reputation management team didn t try to contact me at all to try and get more information to rectify the situation save that bs for someone who isn t aware of the garbage-like disservices your facility has to offer.
There was a character limit to this post, so you are lucky I wasn t able to post the original 4 page review I wanted to leave.
This hospital saved my dad from dying of COVID-19! My dad is a warrior at 89 years old, but he had excellent healthcare in this hospital, and they were great about keeping his family informed because we were unable to visit him. Jen in the intensive care unit is an amazing nurse! All employees that cared for my dad deserves special thanks from my family! God bless you all!
I had the worst experience at this hospital. Everything went wrong. I delivered a baby here in January of 2019. Anesthesia was terrible, physician was terrible, nursing staff was terrible. (except Susie on the mother and baby recovery unit), management was terrible when I told them about the issues I had experienced. Food was good. Terrible medical care. If you have the choice, if your hospital visit can be prepared and planned please consider my experience while determining which facility to deliver your baby at. Specific details include being told I had a miscarriage incorrectly! Then being told that was not true, I am still pregnant, the baby does have a heart beat, "it was a lab error", not getting a spinal when I asked for one, not having my pain managed after the c section, and inappropriate comments from nurses about my birthing preferences.
This is a new post, 12/23/2017. Since AMITA has taken over this ONCE outstanding hospital group it seems it's become more worried about money, cost cutting of staff and amenities like a padded chair for patients to sit up in, one may as well go to the old cook county hospital.
They are also pushing to have hospitalist take the place of your physicians and doctors while admitted. These folks could care less about the patients other than kicking them to the curb as soon as humanly possible.
My heart goes out to patients, PCT's and nurses as well as my prayers for all those this inhuman corporation is doing to St. Alexius. They are just trying to make money off a once great name.
I have been hospitalized there several times both as walk-in through the front doors three times through emergency with heart attacks and once by ambulance for acute pneumonia. I have been there when it has been quiet and at times where we were stacked up in the halls. The PCT's, Nurses and doctor's were all and always tremendous, going the extra mile to make sure I got the care I needed.
Perhaps if those folks who really think the nursing staff was so awful they should try Sherman's ICU or better yet a regular doctor and stop using the emergency room to get a diagnosis on some unknown aliment via emergency services time after time.
St. Alexius, THANKS SO VERY MUCH for saving my life on more than one occasion. You and the entire staff as well as those at Northwest Medical Group will always be in my prayers for all you do for your patients.
Worst hospital ever. I will never go there again nor take my daughter there again. The doctor never washed his hands before coming in or read why my daughter was there. I will never recommend anyone to go there. The doctors are spreading germs instead of not getting other people sick.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit-- we we're traveling from MD to MN and drove through Chicago to stay the night. Our daughter became extremely ill and I took her to the ER here. It was about 11pm on a weeknight just before Christmas. The ER staff saw her promptly and transferred her up to the PICU within two hours of checking in. The nursing staff in the PICU was the most amazing group of nurses we have ever been treated by.My daughter ended up spending Christmas in the hospital and the nurses went out of the way to make it extra special for her. Could not say enough good things about the team on the PICU floor :)
Took my son to the E.R., waited about 3.4 hours, less than a week later I had to take him to the ER again with other complications. Thinking that the first time might have been just a busy night I decided to bring him here again, but I was very wrong. He waited 4. 5 hours with pain from a severe strep throat infection. Terrible treatment, terrible hospital. I rather drive further away and get better service.
My Daughter had her baby on June 20, 2019. It s a clean hospital. The delivery was good. However, when it came time to breastfeed, I noticed nothing was coming out of the nipple. I told the nurses I was concerned. They said the baby does not need much to eat the first few days. However one nurse was very concerned that the baby nurse and not loose too much weight. She tried to help with nursing but had to call another nurse. The other nurse gave her a plastic nipple to see if that would help. I stayed with my daughter for 12 hours. In those 12 hours I did not see the my daughters baby eating. Nothing was coming out. I told the nurses I was concerned and I was afraid my grandbaby might get dehydrated. They reassured me everything was normal. I have had 3 children and I breastfed all of them. I know when nothing is coming out. Today my daughter tells me that a nurse came in the morning at her home and told her she was concerned about the baby s weight. She had lost too much wieght. My grandbaby is only 6 days old. She advised my daughter to feed the baby every 2 hours and also feed with formula. If the baby is not eating enough to bring her to the hospital. I would have thought she should have told her to take her baby to the hospital right away. My daughter and son in law ended up taking her to the emergency room. My grandbaby had to have an IV and given fluids because she was dehydrated. I guess St Alexius hospital felt my grandbaby was not important enough to make sure she was eating. This is my daughters first baby. She followed all of their directions correctly. They did not care enough to follow through on breast feeding and making sure the baby was eating. I am hoping that my grandbaby doesn t have critical life injuries because of their negligence. I have recorded everything!
Not one nurse or doctor has asked me what medications I take before administering an IV!!!! Got my CT scan done and have now been waiting 20 minutes for my nurse to come hook my heart rate monitor and IV back up after being disconnected for my scan. It's so dangerous not asking for medications for allergies or drug interactions, and I haven't even been to medical school! Get it together or you will open the door for lawsuits! Northwest community next time for sure!
WORST E.R. ever! You talk your business in the lobby out in the open. The wait time is horrendous! Currently here with my sister. She is pregnant. They brought her back after waiting nearly an hour. Little did I know this was to get her blood work and start an I.v. She was brought back out to wait AGAIN afterwards. On several occasions this hospital has proved it is the worst. I would never consider this hospital for myself. If you can take my advice and go elsewhere. Once another family member came to this hospital via ambulance and still was brought back out to wait in the emergency lobby. I've seen television hospitals ran better than this. Horrible experience! Front the front desk to the back. They obviously dont even know what HIPAA means. Current time here: 2 hours AND we are still on the emergency wait room, haven't made it to the back. This should not be called the emergency room. Turtles move faster! There is no sense of urgency, compassion consideration sympathy or respect. The whole emergency department is pathetic.
Only come here if you are dying and have no choice. Then expect an ER services bill, an ER doctor bill, radiology bill, then a bill from a company that "analyzes" the radiology services. Maybe more depending on your level of need. Seriously, the place is a joke, they attempt to deceive the public and appear to be a religious place, but they find many ways to bill you into debt that makes you question their practices as the Bible warns against oppressing the poor. And you cant simply ask how much something will be. No. You go in and walk out not knowing what tsunami is heading toward your mailbox full of bills. Oh and this is after insurance.
Lovely hospital they were so nice and comforting when I had kidney stone's I thought I was going to die OMG! !! The pain then when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis another BIG heck up on the road I said my life's over,, BUT the nurse's and Dr's Railed there for me and said it's not over it's just the beginning, I said WOOHOO let's go, I got this that was October 2010 WoW Thank you St Alexius
Does not deserve any stars!! Hospitalists discontinue important home meds, will let you lay there in pain AND send you into withdrawal! If you value your life, do not come here!! I sent a tip to channel 2 news, I hope they investigate!!
Our family spent the last three days here saying good bye to our mom. They were personable, informative, genuine, and tolerant. Everyone on every level here was amazing. They went out of their way to keep her comfortable and us educated. When the time came to finally say goodbye the staff did everything right. Thank you all of you. You made a terrible day tolerable.
Without a doubt, the ICU initially saved my dad's life. Regrettably, the young inexperience of the step-down unit created subsequently issues. I believe that inexperience was a direct result of my dad's passing.
Havent liked this hospital in over 10 years and still dont. I gave birth to my first child and was disgusted by the rude nurses who try to force you to take medicine even when you request not to. And the food is beyond disgusting 10 years ago and now. Just had a 6 hour test and blood work done for my daughter and not only did no one know anything but took over 20 min of walking around to find the right area but had to come back next day and once again no one knew what was going on after i was told that all i had to do was go straight to labs and nope. They are so unorganized and need better training all overn
I did my pulmonary function test here. The tech was very rude, and just by looking at the color of my skin I guess He assumed I dont understand English. In his notes to dr, he wrote I had difficulty following instructions! Seriously, if that was the case, why did he not get me a translator? I am a communication specialist and have authered a book on marketing, in english. Forget about the test I went for- his notes said I was fine...I am still breathless at all times. He did not do a good job, and his rudeness ...go somewhere else people Save your time and money.
ER was great. I came in with a dog bite. Immediately asked if I needed a wheelchair as covered in blood. I said no, it was my thumb. The concern for me and my two jacks was amazing. Seven stitches later sent home. Always the best care.
After spending 3 days in Good Shepard hospital for my epilepsy I got sent home feeling worse then when I went in . Now I know I should ve just gone to my Doctors hospital but it was where I was. Well very next day another 4 Seizures so my Doctor tells me to go to St Alexius and I am glad I did ! It took them only 24 hours to fix what good Shepard messed up they listened to me they believed me ( yeah that s a thing with epilepsy smh) and worked with me and my doctor and got me back to work .
St Alexus Medical used to be a great place before AMITA took over. We've had surgeries, broken ankles, xrays and other treatments done in the past without issues. My wife had a Routine Preventive Colonoscopy exam last year.
AMITA incorrectly coded the exam on the insurance claim for something other than Routine Preventive Colonsocopy and now we are in collections for a bill that is over $3K! Routine Preventive Colonoscopy exams are fully covered, including hospital stays by my insurance.
We got our first notice from AMITA back in October 2018 that we owe 3K in hospital services. So we contacted both the physician and AMITA to let them know that Routine Preventive Colonoscopy procedures are fully covered by the insurance. We waited for over 30 minutes to get a live person at AMITA. They both said it would be corrected. The physician's office faxed a corrected statement of the procedure to AMITA so they could correct their bill and resend to the insurance company. The physicians office billed our insurance correctly so no issues there.
We get a second notice from AMITA in December 2018 for the same bill and again, we contact AMITA and our physician. Our physicians office again resends the procedure information so AMITA can rebill our insurance company. We waited over 40 minutes before we could get a live person to talk to us at AMITA. Extremely frustrating to wait that long. But the billing agent at AMITA said it would be taken care of.
Now we get a collections notice from AMITA for those same hospital services!! We cannot get through to a AMITA Customer service to talk to a live person! It's been over an hour!!
My insurance company said they have not received any corrected invoices showing that it was Routine Preventive Colonsocopy, but they too will also try and contact both the physician and AMITA to help correct this.
In er. check in was a good experience. Long wait in the er room. NEARLY an hour for a review of a scan and slow response to nurse calls. IT'S not a busy night, just slow care
The negative reviews are true. I was put under duress dealing with this hospital. I was mistreated and was left at risk. Thanking God for the incompetence because who knows what would have happened had I delivered here as planned .
Receptionist near the lab was rude to me. She acted like I was stupid because I was a bit confused and didn't realize the orders for lab work were on the Rx form along with Rx for medication. I was tired and in pain... Understandably not fully coherent.
Phlebotomist in the lab was excellent. She gets 5 stars.
Prior to this cold experience, a family member was admitted to ER. "Attending" Physician in charge (DO Graduate from a 3rd rate medical school) never examined patient. He was standing behind a computer the whole time entering data or something. The "treatment" was provided by a rude Physician's Assistant of questionable competency and horrendous bedside manner. A nurse carelessly threw away perfectly usuable urine sample by mistake and said will need another from patient in a great deal of pain from kidney stones. What a joke. Scary knowing it wasn't a fictional hospital set for a show like ER.
I spent over 4 hours in the ER today. Worst decision of my life. I should have left and gone to Northwest Community Hospital. I was in so much pain, a migraine, I decided to stay. This hospital doesn't uphold any of their values. They have so many inconsistencies. The nurses were cold, calloused and jaded toward my pain. I asked for certain things to be done with my meds via IV and all I got were excuses. They were irritated when I pressed the nurses button. I was treated like an addict because of the level of my pain. I was told I maxed all of my medicine options. I was told that I wouldn't be able to be treated with narcotics if I kept going in. I would get a letter and referred elsewhere. I asked to speak with a charge nurse and all I got was excuses. This ER is very, poorly run. Not to mention my room was dirty, I had to change my own sheets and the nurse got blood all over the floor from taking blood and didn't clean it. I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of care that I received. I was treated, like a criminal and not a patient.
I went to Day Surgery from the receptionist to the doctor, nurse and tech they were so nice and friendly made me feel at home and the surgery less scary thank you so much
