My Daughter had her baby on June 20, 2019. It s a clean hospital. The delivery was good. However, when it came time to breastfeed, I noticed nothing was coming out of the nipple. I told the nurses I was concerned. They said the baby does not need much to eat the first few days. However one nurse was very concerned that the baby nurse and not loose too much weight. She tried to help with nursing but had to call another nurse. The other nurse gave her a plastic nipple to see if that would help. I stayed with my daughter for 12 hours. In those 12 hours I did not see the my daughters baby eating. Nothing was coming out. I told the nurses I was concerned and I was afraid my grandbaby might get dehydrated. They reassured me everything was normal. I have had 3 children and I breastfed all of them. I know when nothing is coming out. Today my daughter tells me that a nurse came in the morning at her home and told her she was concerned about the baby s weight. She had lost too much wieght. My grandbaby is only 6 days old. She advised my daughter to feed the baby every 2 hours and also feed with formula. If the baby is not eating enough to bring her to the hospital. I would have thought she should have told her to take her baby to the hospital right away. My daughter and son in law ended up taking her to the emergency room. My grandbaby had to have an IV and given fluids because she was dehydrated. I guess St Alexius hospital felt my grandbaby was not important enough to make sure she was eating. This is my daughters first baby. She followed all of their directions correctly. They did not care enough to follow through on breast feeding and making sure the baby was eating. I am hoping that my grandbaby doesn t have critical life injuries because of their negligence. I have recorded everything!
