Luxury hotel. Beautiful view of the Nile. All the details are super well cared for
but cold no atmosphere.
Magnificent, excellent restoration a paradise, tomorrow I would return.
Prestigious palace. We were staying in the modern building the rooms all have wonderful views of the Palace and the Nile.
A masterpiece on the Nile, the place and the service are excellent
I can't speak to the rooms or accommodation, but I did *attempt* to bring my family for some drinks in their cafe, where we have been before. Unfortunately we experienced some obnoxious service before even entering and decided to go elsewhere.
It is perfectly acceptable to have a minimum bill for your cafe. We would have happily paid, and likely spent well over the minimum.
It is NOT acceptable, however, to leave your guests waiting on a cold dock for 10-15 minutes before an unhurried hospitality fellow informs those guests that they must pay that minimum bill up front, in cash, on a windy dock.
Cover charge is for clubs and teenage parties where people drink out of plastic cups. It is not something that a reputable hotel should even *entertain*, and to turn us away for wanting to pay for our drinks at our table like normal people is an embarrassement for a hotel with a reputation like this.
I live in Egypt, and will not be returning or bringing my colleagues unless this Motel-type policy is reversed.
This well-known hotel, overlooking the Nile, in an elevated position. It is without a doubt the most elegant hotel in Aswan. Made even more famous by the film gives off an atmosphere of yesteryear. Obviously service and adequate quality restaurant.
Hotel magnificent, breathtaking views, unbeatable service
Fabulous heritage property with serene ambiance, though high market
The famous Cataract Hotel. How about going away from the hustle and bustle of Egypt and relaxing in the story? It was about 30,000 yen per night (one room) for the suite in the photo. The items in the room (welcome fruit, coffee, etc.) are free except for some. The bathroom also has a variety of souvenirs, and the loofah goshigo sponge that I brought back is durable and used forever.
At both the check-in and out, the staff did not sit at the counter, but instead sat on the chair in the lobby. For breakfast (buffet), you can have the omelet baked with your favorite ingredients and eat it on the terrace. It's super gorgeous, but since it's Egypt, flies are flying!
The place is beyond amazing, the best scenery in Aswan, the most friendly staff and the food is delicious. The place is full of history!
Very friendly and nice reception team, room received was exactly as we booked and even nicer, guest relations team are very supportive, lots of food variety at dinner, excellent location
After being away from Egypt for the last 12 years, am delighted to find this unique hotel not only keeping the level of quality as it did in the old days but improving. The ambiance, vibe, service, food and the most important the human factor are of the highest standards. The staff are very warm and friendly and provide the best service I ever seen in Egypt. I am so proud to have such a level of hospitality in my home country. keep it up guys.

History ... History ...
Just
Fences from the outside..and sidewalk .From the borders.Garden to the Nile..need....beauty and follow up ..
A more than wonderful place, a masterpiece of fantasy, fragrant history
Just wow. Nice location. Great big rooms with a fantastic view. Restaurant 1902 is a fabulous location. Food is good but don't expect to much. Bit pricy. Breakfast is nice and staff super friendly. For sure the best hotel of aswan
A unique , iconic place where beutiful nature meets the gentle human touch
The absolute highlight of my trip to Egypt was my stay at Sofitel OLD CATARACT in Aswan. The wonderful colonial-style hotel has been perfectly renovated and is hard to beat in terms of charm, style and flair. The privileged location on the Nile with a view of the Nile, the island Elefantine and in the background the mausoleum of Aga Kahn makes your heart beat. In the luxuriously appointed rooms and suites, the guest feels truly regal. All the staff from the general manager Mr. Rafic Khairallah to the bellboy, with their friendliness, are courteous in making sure that no wish remains unfulfilled.
I stayed at the hotel in April 2016 and will return as soon as possible to enjoy this wonderful hotel.
The best hotel in Egypt. I stayed there in April 2015. The design, interiors, history, staff. All gives you a different charming experience. Amazing location with an amazing view of the Nile river. I leave you with the photos which is more descriptive than words!
Fabulous location / incredible facilities / amazing rooms. ... BUT service & meals terrible, absolutely terrible. For the price of the rooms, they need desperately to improve.
We were there for cocktail hour, I think they call it high tea! Great service, super attractive presentation and we caught a great sunset. I would love to stay here ..but it was just part of a tour in Aswan and memorable!
Where Agatha Christie wrote the book Death on the Nile
We recommend this hotel. Is incredible. Very friendly public relations Aya
Drop dead great..food is hydroponic so like most food in Egypt is pretty tasteless. Hotel is a full 10..super chic with bags of history and of course its French staff are wonderful. Just .avoid costly trip on Nile..very boring.
Amazing view, heritage architecture. a piece of history
Fantastic, historical, luxury, niche & distinguished.
Lovely Nile view.
One of the best places in the world to watch sunset from, we had lunch at The terrace Restaurant, the food was delicious and the service was very attentive. You can also take a Faloka or a motor boat to anywhere you want across the nile from their dock. A must visit while in Aswan.
The hotel has an unbeatable location; It is located in a beautiful green area overlooking the old rapids of the Nile; the Altbautrakt is in uniquely beautiful oriental colonial style. The suites in the Atbautrakt are spacious and comfortable.
Less praiseworthy is the breakfast; There is very little variety and for a longer stay this is unsatisfactory for a house of this category.
Unhappily for some years, the morning awakening at 4.30 clock by a muezzin done, which raises his voice on the opposite shore. The beautiful tranquility of earlier years is unfortunately greatly impaired.
One of the oldest tourist hotels in the world and the first in the Middle East
Facade of celebrities in Aswan
.
It is noteworthy that the historic "Cataract" Hotel was built on a huge granite rock overlooking the Nile in Aswan Governorate, and it was opened for the first time during the reign of Khedive Abbas Helmy II in 1899. Farouk and the famous writer Agatha Christie, who wrote her famous story "Death on the banks of the Nile" from her hotel balcony.
Cataract date
The ancient hotel stands on a rock of red granite with its English style, which first appeared in the newspaper "The Egyptian Gazette" in 1889, and when the global demand for it increased, the hotel management only found in front of it a new way to accommodate the increase in the number of guests, which is to set up tents for accommodation .. And the hotel's fame spread. ... so his administration was forced to double its "60 rooms" to reach 120 rooms and it was opened after that, and the opening of its main restaurant was attended in 1902 by Khedive Abbas Helmy, the ruler of Egypt at that time, and Duke was the son of Queen Victoria and Lord Cromer and the English youth Winston Churchill who laid the foundation stone for the Aswan reservoir in That time and also John Erd, the engineer of the Aswan Dam.
The hotel, which has a Victorian character, is not without its distinctive oriental character. The main restaurant is built in the Andalusian style with a dome 75 feet high, and columns inspired by the Ibn Tulun Mosque .. The most famous place is the terrace, which enables guests and guests to see the sunset as it descends In the bosom of the mountain, far and wide without a border.
"Crime on the Nile"
This mythical edifice opens the vaults of stories and stories related to it since its inception, which exceeds 122 years, so the record of its guests and guests bears famous international figures such as Agatha Christie, the English novelist and writer whose fame has surpassed the horizons, because of the wide fame of her writings on police stories that she has a special wing in the hotel It bears her name and inside Cataract Aswan, she wrote her famous novel "Crime on the Nile", which was turned into a movie, and was filmed inside the hotel .. "The Nile" was an inspiration to her imagination and may have inspired the imagination of many, as the hotel is located in an area beyond description. Through a narrow area confined between two mountains of granite rock, which attracts attention, and a few meters away from it there is a terraced garden called Firyal Garden, in reference to the former queen who used to go down in the hotel with the rest of the royal family, "the Muhammad Ali family."
Inside it there is a distinguished wing that is called "the royal wing", which is my favorite of King Fuad, King of Egypt and Sudan in his time .. Among his guests and guests was Al-Nahhas Pasha, the leader of the delegation, and the former prime minister of Egypt, as Aswan was and is still the favorite of the famous people in The world, they go to it to go to this ancient hotel of historical fame .. And one of its pioneers was Prince Muhammad Aga Khan, who chose a burial for him on the throne of the hotel..and this cemetery has a story that comes to mind when it comes to talking about the Cataract Hotel .. so the Aga Khan was the prince of the Ismaili community. He came to Egypt and had close ties with the family of Muhammad Ali during the time of King Fouad and after him Farouk. And in one of his visits, the royal family was preparing a legendary party for the beauty queen of the world coming from Europe .. its name is "Ivete" and Prince Muhammad Aga Khan fell into her whim from the first look .. and it was The program to celebrate the Miss World visit includes a visit to Aswan .. And it was the second meeting between Aga Khan and Yvette in Aswan .. And the marriage of the girl who changed her name to "Begum or Habiba", Aga Khan's visits were not interrupted by Cataract and the city of Aswan, which he used to visit after advice from his doctors To be tipped N his body in its hot sands for treatment of rheumatic diseases in the legs .. and from the intensity of his love for these sands, which he watched from his suite in the hotel, he decided to be buried in it .. so he asked Gamal Abdel Nasser to buy a piece of land .. and his request as a gift from the state for one of the characters was fulfilled. The lover of Egypt .. and built his cemetery on it .. and was buried there after his death, and the Begum Umm Habibah came annually to visit him and stay in the place her husband used to visit, Cataract Hotel and from his distaste for the place that she saw from the hotel balconies she asked to be buried with her husband after Her death, and this was achieved for her in 2000, it is the magic of the place that witnessed the most wonderful myths of love between the prince and the beauty queen.
In the Cataract Hotel, the late President Anwar Sadat used to meet his guests and spend days in the winter there, in which he met with delegations and leaders from all countries, and in his halls there were negotiations with "Henry Kissinger", the US Secretary of State, on many issues.
In one of Kissinger's visits to Sadat in Aswan, he was asked to hand over the "gift of Salim."
The hotel has an excellent place in Aswan, the best hotels ever in Aswan
We didn't stay there, just tried the restaurant. The colonial style is all there. However, the food cannot justify the price.
You have to pay to get in. The entrance courtyard, in brown colors, is a bit off-putting. Everything changes when you enter the hotel and especially when you pass on the terraces side. These are stepped towards the Nile. It is a beautiful place.
Magical hotel, with a breathtaking view of the Nile
It was really a wonderful stay .Excellent service .room is so comfortable with amazing view.
This hotel is from another world. It's the single best hotel i visited in my entire life. The old cataract rooms are mini modern palaces. There is nothing like that in the world. They have suites where king farouk, Churchill and Agatha Christie stayed. Each of these rooms are little musuems. Add to all that a majestic Nile scenery unmatched in its beauty and fantastic landscaping. One cannot say enough about this property
What can I say. This hotel is one of the very best hotels in Egypt. The best hotel in Aswan. The staff are great.
The rooms are amazing. Like mini suites. Food is second to none. Breakfast is amazing and snacks and lunch menu is great. Room service food is amazing. The stray with mushroom sauce is to die for. The orientalist restaurant is also amazing.
There is nothing bad I could say regarding this hotel.
It s like paradise
Wonderful place
I like it

Well maintained heritage hotel with the best ever view of the Nile. The view from here is simply captivating! The hotel is lovely too
Here is a mythical place to be up to. Well, it's successful! The place is splendid at first, perfectly maintained as if it had been built recently. It does not smell of mothballs at all;) even if the population is not the youngest. We stayed in a room in the old building (totally renovated) and we were not disappointed! A huge rectangular bath, air conditioning well dosed, perfect bedding. The service is impeccable, superior to all the hotels we have done. The pool overlooks the Nile and there is even a small harbor to take a tour of Feluk. The food is good and the breakfast at the height of the palace. We will come back!
One of the best motels in which I have landed in all countries of the world by virtue of my officer officer pilot and traveled a lot of real Chee and the most respected employees who loved me in the hotel with his treatment and good reception Tharwat Mahmoud
The best in everything, rooms, services and especially the view. What a wonderful paradise.
Only thing wrong with the place is that you won't want to leave it. It's that nice
