Great for people watching, eating, cocktail sipping, and lots of shopping. A lot of my favorite stores were in close vicinity to each other. I visited lots of stores while out visiting San Francisco, and if you want to use the street car, the big hop on/hop off bus, or bike rentals, this is the place to start.
Union Square was very beautiful so many shops so many places to go the Macy's Christmas tree it was great I couldn't believe it it was fantastic Wall to Wall Street to block people!! Hey what can I say it was great I took a charter bus there to Union Square to get some pictures of the Christmas tree at Macy's recommend going. But it can be expensive
If you are visiting San Francisco, Union Square must be your starting point. Great place for restaurants and bars.
Pretty place with lots of stores nearby to explore, excellent if you got a hotel in the area. They do bus tours from here too.
Great place to visit, have coffee and take some cool pics.
Lively place. Lots of high end stores and restaurants. Most restaurants close at 10pm. Cheesecake Factory serves more than desserts and is a good choice for late night eating.
Construction at the time. Pipers are a nice touch. Lots of homeless. Feel bad for them. They are lost, lost, lost.
As the year winds to an end and the weather takes a dive just a bit deeper on the thermostat. Union Square is my favorite place to visit in San Francisco. With the wonderful arrangements made by the city by bringing in a large ice skating rink directly atop Union Square nestled right next the the Astounding Christmas Tree that even next to huge buildings like Macy's and Saks and Fifth seems to no be overshadowed. For me Union Square in the winter time of San Francisco is the pinnacle of the city. Like myself many flock to either skate with a loved one or friend around the ice rink or to sit and have some Starbucks while basking in the beauty of the spectacular Christmas tree. Along with the music that can be heard from the Ice rink it really sets the atmosphere to be a joyful and generally gleeful area. So Grab your significant other, best friend or your family. Even better why not grab all three and take a stroll down to Union Square and ill see you there!
GooD place in SF. Used to be cleaner with homeless people
Another breathing space in the heart of a concrete jungle. Good place to relax and just chill and go people watching on the side. There are regular flea markets or art sale going on here so check those out. A coffee shop is available for your caffeine fix. Be sure to read up on the history of the tower at a small plaque at its base. Great venue for selfies.
One of the central squares of San Francisco. Still affected by the Central Subway construction. Lots of upscale stores and galleries close by.
Great place to see people. There's many events from Art Exhibition to live entertainment in the square
Lovely Christmas decorations, music and ice skating. Very festive!
Very hip and trendy! Lots of shopping, dining and bars. Everything needed is there, including high end shopping from gucci to feragamo, burberry, Louis vuitton, macys, barney's, and the list goes on. Cvs, walgreens, old navy, forever xxi, Marshalls, Ross, gap ah nd nordstrom are only a few feet walking distance. The cable cars and the accessibility to the Bart train system, is even more convenient. Westfield mall is smack dab on market Street with more high end shopping! What's not to love about union Square!
Very nice this time of year if you can handle the traffic.
This could be a beautiful city, but there are people in need on the streets. Please pay attention, and please help if you can.
Union Square San Francisco is very central to a huge range of shops and Macy's. Also it's not to bad of a park either.
This is where we caught the Big Bus Tour, long line No restroom, had to go across the street to Macy's department store
Great spot to check out in the city. Lots to see. If you are a traveler check out the Birdhouse in Golden BC
Union square is a mecca for shopping. Every store you can imagine from Neiman Marcus to Forever 21. Also every kind of food from Irish to Indian to Thai to fast food. There is metered parking, but it can be hard to find. Your best bet is one of the paid parking garages in the area. Catch the cable car to Pier 39 & enjoy the clam chowder & sidewalk entertainment. It's definitely an all day outing. Dress in layers because the weather changes quickly. Sometimes there are deals available at the area hotels. Definitely worth it for a night or two.
They have all sorts of beautiful art pieces it's best to go during the day time they do their best to keep the homeless population out but I could get a little bit Shady at night.
Be prepared to walk. A lot of high end shopping. Usual downtown construction and traffic. Walking distance to Chinatown.
The city is centered on a lively public space and surrounded by the city's top-named shops, restaurants, and hotels.
Always crowded with Tourists and locals!! Fun place great restaurants and shops
It was in construction when I stayed in SFO.. but some day i'll return!
Full of homeless people reminds you of an era gone by
Clean bright welcoming stimulating well worth the visit.
Well if you like double decker buses and tons of tourists, this is the place for you.
When in san Francisco fun place to get a taste of the city. Parking under the square typically easy
We had so.much fan there. I wish to come and spend some time there again.
Loved that it is pet friendly and so are many of the shops around it.
Un local popular internacional
A local international hot spot
Beautiful time of year with Christmas tree and ice rink.
Plenty of restaurants in the area. Ice skating rink open during the Christmas holidays
This place is famous around the world. Why? Well, it happens to be a park space enveloped by a vibrant shopping district in one of the most popular areas of San Francisco. The plaza itself is very basic. A blank central area for events and implied seating to the side. It's a good place to relax from your bustle I guess. Bring a jacket. It's windy out here.
Touristy. Artists. Lots of places to go. Central and much much more!
It was under construction when I was here and it feels too busy to enjoy
Union Square is a great destination that is surrounded by restaurants and great places to shop. I enjoy sitting in Union Square to people watch in the bustling area while I seek refuge from the chaos during high peak times on the weekends or in the evenings. On nice days it's a great place to bask in the sun. Yes, there are some people who are down on their luck in the area. However, it's never been a problem for me as long as I respect their space and treat them with the same human decency I treat others with.
Great area for shopping. Nice lights and Christmas tree around Christmastime. Quite alot of homeless people around the area though.
A central place to go to in San Francisco.good place to pick up a tram or any of the tourist buses. Go to Macy's and visit the cheesecake factory. Make sure u get a ride on the cable cars
I love Union Square, hang out, eat, drink coffee and shop.
Neat place to relax in San Francisco. Only downside is the homeless population but that is most of San Francisco.
great place to relax. Frequently interesting activities. Macy store offers great view on the square.
It's a great place for shopping and just sitting in the Square
A huge variaty of produce organic food and fresh fish and meet. All at hand.
Very touristy area. It's a must visit if you like high end stores and there's always something happening from outdoor movies to art walks to a skating rink in winter. I avoid this area unless I'm showing people around or need to shop at a classy store
Need to clean it up. They have let it get reduced by apathy and normalization of deviation
Well, really, is there anything else to add here?
It is the iconic landmark downtown San Francisco.
Beautiful by night and beautiful by day.
No matter the issues, you must check this prior to departing San Francisco.
Sometimes you might find the square hosting an event of sorts. That will help you better understand it s importance it the day to day activities.
The beds are awesome. Best beds we've ever slept on in any hotel/motel. The service from all the staff is fantastic. The concierge service is wonderful they really know what their talking about. We went there for 36th anniversary, was upgraded received 2 free breakfasts. Food is excellent. This is the place to go. I want to go back and stay there again next time longer than 2 nights. Oh and the beautiful lady cleaning our room is someone the company should be proud to have cleaning and prepping their rooms for the guests. Loved staying at the San Francisco intercontinental hotel. We shall be back or, i should say, I will for sure.
Lots of honest and nice homeless people, but the can get annoying over time. Overall a great part of the city.
An awesome band with an international sound played beats in the Square for ALL to enjoy. I was alone (female) and felt safe. Tip:many of the light posts have electric outlets if you need to quick charge your phone.
As always, very busy with tourists but such a great spot to visit and check out. Many stores within walking distance and the Bart station too. Chinatown isn't too far away either.
Memorable. Great edifice, interesting mixture of visitors. Square is surrounded by a retinue of high rise buildings, in a hotel-filled area of San Francisco
Fantastic example of how great cities can be. Four stars only due to extreme traffic congestion and difficult super expensive parking. Great shopping. Incredible stores. Better than any shopping mall. An exciting and exhilarating afternoon. Amazing views. And people watching opportunities.
I have a 6yr old son and 7yr old daughter, we visit Union Square quite frequently through out the year. Every time we go my children really enjoy the atmosphere and beautiful lights of the city.
Nice holiday atmosphere, proximity to shopping, central location.
I met my friend for lunch and I had not been to Union Square for quite some time. It looks beautiful with the Xmas tree and the people just shopping and enjoying the day. The sales were excellent and everyone seemed happy and friendly. It was a good time to go, it didn't feel croweded. I think allot of folks left the city for the holidays. I'm a local so it felt good to have the city not be so croweded.
Very nice place, lot to do around from shopping to some place to eat...
Nice place to sit and relax in the city. The occasional artist exhibits are fun to look at.
The number one place to spend New Years Eve, Valentine's Day, and Christmas, especially for ice skaters. The best place to explore art, architecture, and people watch. Union Square is where romantics bring dates, where couples ask each other for a commitment that leads to a marriage engagement, and where parents bring their children to see the world they are surrounded by. I feel just as magical bringing my girlfriend to Union Square as I do bringing my son while walking from Chinatown to Downtown when visiting San Francisco from Las Vegas, Nevada. There is no wonderland better than Alice's experiences in Union Square.
Awesome place to visit, however, the homeless population is really big and it looks like City officials don't care
St Francisco
Great place for coffee and soaking in the San Francisco downtown atmosphere.
Don't remember where this was going to be giving it 5 Stars just on GP
If in sfo you need to go there. See the ice skating and so many different cultures walking around. You can have a great opportunity to sit on concrete poles and watch and think.
Would be nicer if there weren't so many homeless hanging around. Not to be mean but all the homeless do is bother people for money and take up the benches by laying across and sleeping on them. You rarely see police around also.
