Like many epicenters of large cities, Union Square serves as a meeting point for many people of all walks of life (though seemingly mostly tourists). It is a great place to stop and people watch, either from one of the many sitting areas within the square itself, or from one of the cafes or restaurants on the square's perimeter. When the sun is out, it shines as it sets over the square, and people sunbathe as they drink their beverages and hang out with friends. Others walk their dogs or play hide-and-seek with their kids as pigeons coo in every corner.

Not to thrilled. Driving thru at a stop light. I was minding own biz and homelessness guy begged for $5. Told him. I carry no cash. He started to beat my car up. I cannot run a red light but as soon as it turned green. I screamed out of there. 2 other cars witnessed it. Traffic and construction. Will never get done fast enuf. :/

One of the best place to visit in San Francisco. There are many restaurants, hotels, shops near by. Most of tour operators operate their buses nearby this place. There are shops of famous brands around this place. This is well maintained and has great opportunities for photography.

It's ok..its a centric plaza with malls and nice shops around, but the plaza itself doesn't offer much. In Xmas time there is a skating ring but that's about it. They have some painted hearts around the square, which are usually the photo corner.
At this time there were some construction going on so it wasn't super plesant.
We went to one of the cafes on the plaza and the food was really expensive (around $18 for a sandwich and a quiche) but they tasted very good though.

It's a busy area but beautiful to check out. The architecture is amazing, the air is crisp, the inner square was lined with vendors - paintings, sculptures, etc. It's a really easy Uber to other hotspots like the bridge, Chinatown, the financial district, etc.

What a magical place to visit during the Christmas holidays!
I love going to Union Square during the holidays. The Christmas lights, the sights and sounds of people chatting and Christmas music in the background. It's fun to watch the many ice skaters skate around the ring and see the different skating styles. Most of all everyone there was having a good time. There's a little cafe that serves hot cocoa and coffee which is a warm welcome especially when it's cold outside. The thrilling sight is the Christmas tree in Union Square all lighted up and the Menorah. Across the street you see Macy's windows all decked out. You can go to Macy's and go up to the highest floor overlooking the skating rink . You see the entire square with all the activities going on. You can go to St. Francis hotel across the way to see the magnificent gingerbread house that their bakers build every season. It's amazing how creative bakers can be and the architectural design of the gingerbread house they come up with. So much to see and so much to take in. It truly is a glorious time of the year.

Seems like a nice open space in all this craziness of San Francisco. Plenty of benches, chair and tables. Saw a lot of people taking pictures sitting around reading and relaxing. As well as a bunch of tourist. Just like me. There were a bunch of food options around, but they weren't open when we were there.

This is generally a very lively place right in the center of the downtown. Good place to hangout. The cable car starts from here. Go for a round all the way till Ghirardelli and back. The parking lot is convenient and pretty reasonably priced.

Beautiful place to visit when in SF! They have all kinds of stores and brands nearby. Around the holidays they put a big Christmas tree in the middle, perfect to take pictures. You can also take the tradicional cable car over there.

The square itself is kind of underwhelming. It's a large concrete space with an tall monument in the middle that is covered in bird poop. Most people come to Union Square as they travel between the many high-end stores, hotels, and restaurants that surround it. Occasionally, there interesting free concerts or other performances here. During the winter there is a (not free) ice skating rink here.

Uhm this place is just so crowded. And it has a weird mix of people: locales, a lot of tourists, homeless. If you come here during the holidays get ready for a massive crowd and lines everywhere. The vibes are still nice though and gives you a real big city feeling. It's also a good place to hide from the cold wind and get lost in the endless shopping opportunities.

Always a great centralized location. Surrounded by Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Saxs and Barneys. Plenty of variety for food, drink and night life. Union Square has it all. Powell Street Trolly runs up the west side. Sight seeing tour rides are also available. Hop on-Hop off.

Union Square is always a lively place to enjoy San Francisco. Macy's Union Square offered along with its many restaurants including the Cheesecake Factory on the 8th floor. Opposite of the restaurant on the 8th Floor using the main elevators is Backstage. The main elevators are the only way to find the New and Now Backstage. Brand new to the Union Square location, the entertainment of locating the correct elevators could only be matched by the great prices, wide assortment and the local shopping experience versus the high end shopping experiences that come with Union Square.
