There is metered parking, but it can be hard to find. Your best bet is one of the paid parking garages in the area. Catch the cable car to Pier 39 & enjoy the clam chowder & sidewalk entertainment. It's definitely an all day outing. Dress in layers because the weather changes quickly. Sometimes there are deals available at the area hotels. Definitely worth it for a night or two.
