While the grounds, villa and landscaping are breath-taking....your customer service leaves something to be desired. Before arriving on your property, i had super high expectations for the level of service i would receive and you fell way below that mark. The Shangri-La name comes with exquisite taste, customer service and accommodations but your location seems to be a 'mom and pop' location struggling to live up to that name. It almost felt like i was bamboozled. Your team just doesn't have either the training or aptitude to convey superior customer service. They fell short constantly. Whether it be for a request for a buggy, or removal of dining plates from the front of the villa or the super slow dining service, or the minimal attentiveness of the villa host and cleaning crew or the uninspired resolutions to customer requests...overall it just left a bad taste and will more than likely prevent a future stay at your resort and will definitely mean i make sure my travel agent does not send any other clients your way.
In The Maldives, the expectation is that you will have an enviable and unforgettable experience, your location did not deliver. Your staff needs serious retraining. I will however give special applause and admiration to Aalif and Naglaa who delivered the best dining service during my entire stay. Aallif specifically could probably train your entire staff. He smiles, he is warm, attentive and frankly a rockstar.
Food choices: Javvu actually delivered the best meals of my stay. Dr. Ali is a throwaway restaurant. The food here tasted cheap and uninspired. I've had bodega food that tasted better than what we were served. Also, Fashala was closed throughout my stay.. You have 3 restaurants onsite...like why??? Why is one closed???
I really was looking forward to writing a better review for this property because the reviews i read seemed to instill high hopes. The reality is, this resort cannot be ranked among the best of the best. It is a solid 2.5 star resort with same level of customer service to match. It really is such a shame
Tranquil resort with little or plenty todo ,relax on lovely clean white beach or by your own pool.
Food was plentiful and of highest quality and variation of food cultures over the 7 days was great
Some of water sports were high in price but still there was a lot of free sports to do
Words cannot describe the beauty and serenity of this part of the world. A must for any traveller's bucket list. The resort itself is stunning and is up there with my favourite places on earth.
We had a wonderful time at Shangri-La.
The staff and the was excellent and the hotel was magnificent !!!
Beautiful, cool and worth a try
Visit my honeymoon for 3 nights
Reservations in the Trihouse, I recommend it
Bedroom, hall and large living room with swimming pool and ocean views
It is preferred to book by direct contact with them
The contact number they received on their site and they have an offer for reservations by mobile 15%
Transportation on the island is by walking or by free cart, in coordination with them
My reservation included three meals
With the possibility of choosing restaurants for dinner
All drinks are free
We were looked after very well. The overall experience was excellent. We look forward to visiting again in the near future.
Beautiful sea, clean room, delicious foods and kind staffs.
One of the best luxurious resorts in maldives.. Staff is very helpful and villa is very big and clean.. Only they need to provide water villa with private pool... I have tried the water villa and it was amazing.. I loved everything there.. Beach is owsome weather was nice during November
We absolutely loved our stay! Everything was perfect. Closest thing to heavenly paradise that we've ever experienced.
Perfect...
Take the Luxury Escape Package, its all inclusive B,L,D with alcohol included.
Amazing experience...
The best holiday ever! couldn't fault it, service, cleanliness and amenities AMAZING!!
My husband and I enjoyed our honeymoon here last week! The staff were all extremely caring and prompt when we needed help! The resort is stunning and beautiful, we stayed 2 nights in the deluxe pool villa and 3 days on the water villa. We gotta say, our water villa really made our trip satisfaction even better than we expected. As for activities, we tried guided snorkelling, dolphin watching, and night fishing/stargazing in which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We also loved that shisha was available around the resort lounge and Dr. Ali restaurant! The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was that because we went during low season, it appeared as though the restaurants were short staffed resulting in very slow service some of the nights. Overall though we really enjoyed being here and would definitely recommend to friends and family!
Awesome location & great customer service. I will recommend this resort to all my friends and colleagues
I went there for Easter and it was amazing!
We went snorkelling and saw a parrotfish. The breakfast was awesome too!
There was intert problem and on last day we had to get up early because of electricity problems but your staff was very nice
Philippe is the best resort GM ever met in our frequent 5* trips
Celebrated our 10th anniversary here. Paradise on Earth. Spoilt us for life. Our most memorable vacation ever. The staff are really friendly and accommodating and the resort is out of this world.
One point to mention is that we were totally unaware of the additional transfer costs from Male to Gan - as were a few other couples we spoke to. I feel this information should be up front.
Also I feel that the access to snorkelling equipment should be included in your stay, surely some method of security could be taken to ensure the return of gear at the end of your stay. My husband and I hired the flippers and snorkel/mask and then went on the snorkel boat trip where all epuipment was provided and no discount was given for people who had already paid for the equipment?
One other point is that as there are only 3 dining options and I feel they should be open 7 days so you don't get disappointed when you save a special dinner for your last evening to find out the restaurant is not open?
I went to this resort on Feb 2015 and I had the best hospitality experience ever. The island, the resort and the staff were the best combination a gust could ever have.
This is possibly the best hotel i have ever visited.....
Everything was absolutely incredible. Everyone working at the resort, especially Hassan (assistant director of food/beverage), was essential in making our trip perfect. Best customer service I have ever experienced every step of the way.
In summary, it was absolute paradise. The service from all staff was phenomenal. The facilities both inside and outside the villa were immaculate and comfortable. We experienced all three restaurants which were all flawless. Breakfast daily was an absolute treat. Bar service couldn't have been better. Our room was looked after wonderfully well. We loved doing Yoga, Golf and Snorkeling. We had a complimentary ten minute deep tissue massage and Yoga session which were reinvigorating. Shame we didn't squeeze in more. Tennis lessons with Aymeric were great and we cant wait to get home and put it into practice. We really appreciate the personal touch by inviting us to sunset cocktails on the Saturday and being welcomed and greeted by Philippe. We also were blown away by our bikes being returned overnight after we had left them by Javvu after a few to many drinks :). Thank you to everyone.
Beautiful island, very natural. Large island to explore with new experience around every corner. Excellent accomodation, great food, and wonderful service.
First came on islands when there was a project that looked less good. And now it's not very beautiful. When can you come again ...? Hehehe .....
I have traveled to many resorts and this by far was the the best. The most phenomenal staff, the rooms were exceptional and wow this place is from another planet. Thank you to Lahma, Rimaz and the lady from Bali who served us. The three of you are absolute awesome.
Only one improvement I can suggest, have more variety at Javvu restaurant for dinner for example introduce burgers and fries
I will definitely return.
Thank you
Amazing place! Perfect service and the beautiful and huge water villas
A fabulous experience, and we will certainly return. The only thing that brought my rating down from excellent to very good, is the dive center front office staff. They seem not to care much about selling the available experiences. On the other hand the staff on the private boat we chartered were excellent with a particular mention to Jinan, our snorkelling guide.
I can't fault this resort. My wife and I had the best holiday experience we could ever ask for. The Island is beautiful, the staff are friendly and very helpful, the food was amazing, our over water villa was brilliant and the resort ammenities were spectacular. We would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway as a couple or family.
The resort was very clean and the rooms were as well. The food was great and the value for money this resort has was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The villa that I stayed in was very convenient for the beach. I would recommend this resort to anyone who enjoys a relaxing beach holiday or for family holidays
Love it ! The water villa was beautiful and elegant and modern, the view of the water was extraordinary and so blue. The staff was very friendly, and made us feel very special especially the people that decorated our rooms and we love the option of transport from buggy, bicycle to walk. The island is big but not too big that you will get lost but big enough so you have privacy at the resort. The food at Dr Ali & Fushala is very yummy and being so close to the beach with the ocean waves as background while dining is amazing. It's definitely a 10/10 experience.
The resort is unique and distinctive. A very large area, but only my problem with my eyes after the distance from Mali means almost the last island in the Maldives. And prices are expensive.
The rest of the resort is worth the visit once, twice and three times.
Wonderful hospitality, loved how every single staff would greet and smile even I was just cycling past their buggy. I appreciated the prompt response of the service centre to all my requests including a smaller bicycle and my preferred pillows. I loved the turn down service as well. Its just that once, I switched on the Do Not Disturb sign and the housekeeping still came in just when I was about to have a bath. I managed to put on a towel before he stepped into the room, but that was not a pleasant experience. He apologised and said the sign was not turned on outside (I was in villa 329, would be great if this can be checked and fixed) and made sure to ask me what time he can come back. I also found the omelette a tad too oily at breakfast.
A bottle of water had trash in the bottom and only saw the trash after drinking the water ...
I did not have hot water 1 day
The lock of the villa was damaged and never repaired
They blocked the door lock card without warning and I had trouble solving the problem.
The transportation was time consuming and the roads were in poor order.
There are already visible signs of inadmissible degradation in a resort of this price.
Some prices too high compared to other hotels of the same level.
It was very nice! Location photo was very good!
I want to go again someday!
Great resort with superb views and top notch service
Excellent hotel, I dont have smth to say that was bad
Excellent. The island is beautiful, the rooms are very spacious, the stuff is amazing and very very friendly. Food is excellent, buffet dinner is very interesting. I expected a lot, but the island and service exceeded my expectations.
Beautiful resort with charming staff offering intuitive service. Loved the dining, the villa, the snorkelling and the diving.
Only hiccup was on departure at Gan airport. Guests taken from boat to airport but had a wait for luggage to arrive from the boat.
The hptel was great, the place a paradise.
The only thing is that mgmt. should explain better that local flights change everyday. the first comunication told us that we only had to wait for 1:30 hours on the way in and 1:30 on the way back (approx). It ended up being 4 and 5 hours layover and with a 1.5 years old baby that waiting time is too long, probably we would have choosen a different destination just because of the baby.
From the environment to the hardware, from the service to the dining, it is a superb resort hotel!
It has been almost two years from my 'first visit' this paradise beneath the equator. Still I didn't get any better resort experience other than this fabulous destination. Shangri-la villingili resort and spa was happened to be my first resort experience in Maldives and the staff, breath taking blue shallow sea, luxury over water villa, golf turf and delicious dishes could have been one of best experience I had in Maldives.
Shangri-la located in Addu Atoll which is known to be the bottom most Atoll out of 26 atolls dispersed throughout this island nation and the resort island got a lake, but I am not sure whether it is a natural lake.
If I am not mistaken, the highest natural point in Maldives is also located in the same island and it's quite been a thing to climb the highest place inadvertently while you are playing golf .
Crossing the equator, swimming along with baby sharks in the shallow sea, watching movies under the stars, riding the bicycle through tree covers and incomparable facilities... this super luxury resort giving enormous leisure experience... Thank you Shangri-la. Hope to see you again.
The Ocean Villas, are exquisite and truly well appointed.Nothing has been spared here , 5 star luxury for sure.
We enjoyed the Ocean Villa's tremendously and the easy access for snorkeling daily a real pleasure.
The shower pressure , was unexpected and truly a wondrous achievement considering the construction and remoteness of the villas.
The staff were pleasant , accommodating and courteous.
Since we were full board , we enjoyed all the vegetarian options on offer at JAVVU , breakfast , Lunch and Dinner and DR Alli's and interacted with the service staff too.
Athif , Our Island host was friendly , and sorted all our bookings and offered suggestions and advice and this concept worked exceptionally well for us.He is truly a blessing for SHANGRI-LA ,Villingilli.
CHEF SHREERAJ MENON ,Javvu breakfast and LATIEF , head chef at DR Alli's were both exceptional and assisted with personalised experiences, which we appreciated very much and also allowed us to enjoy the food offerings further .
Naglaa , Naglaa , Naglaa , what can I say , she is a breath of fresh air and always made Lunch /Dinner special with her pleasant demeanour and attitude and one sees, she is really enjoying working at SHANGRI-LA .
The following Javvu and DR ALLI'S hosts and hostesses all deserve a mention
Lamha , Nasih, Imad,Nitul ,Josefina,Arif, Ibrahim Ziyaad,Ajmeel and Shashikira,( I hope I spelt the names correctly)
Mausoom our room cleaner also deserves a mention.
Riding our cycles was a really enjoyable family experience.
On the 2nd day , My son's bicycle kept giving problems and we ended up cycling while he walked alone to Javvu , from VILLA 249 ,Only to be picked up by Philippe, the manager , on the way .
He was too shy to tell Philippe his bike was broken !
Anyway that afternoon , when the chain was stuck again on the road to Javvu , the workshop guys saw us and stopped and attended the bike immediately, this was not successful , so another bike was sent to the villa, this was too small and we engaged workshop again and very quickly another suitable bike was given, all in all , my son's mood uplifted tremendously after this and we had no issue the remainder of the stay with bicycles.
Workshop :1 Bicycle :0,Yay Workshop!
The staff while driving the resort driveways were always exceptionally courteous, understanding and always slowed down for the cycling guests.
We enjoyed the Spa and City Tour Offered , Moosa our driver and Ali , our guides were good.
We had a great time ,snorkeling ,swimming , lazing , going on the dolphin cruise and bonding!
Overall best of our five trips to the Maldives! Leo and Mei are most attentive and cater to our every need. Bikash the lifeguard who gave me very sound snorkeling advice (my swimming beside a sea turtle was the highlight), Falah from transport who gave us a great tour and great photoes. Coach Long who helped us form a group for boat trip for my first dolphin gazing, fishing and deep sea snorkeling experience. Josefina from Javvu gave us great lumch service. Our Island hosts Anas (and Ayaan) did a great job, Joy from Chi Spa was amazing and GM Philippe can even perform magic!! All in all simply a magical experience. Kudos to fellow guests from Hong Kong Aaron and Jasmine who were simply a delightful couple and the best snorkeling buddies and dinner double dates one can ever wish for (they eben caught a huge wahoo!). Shangri-la does it again in Maldives, and much more...
I have lived in some amazing resorts around the world. This however is a class apart. Absolutely amazing in every way
I want to go there sometime in the future with my family
Go your way! We had a two bedroom villa with "direct access to the beach" surprised on arrival the villa gives access to a beach which overlooks stilts! The view is spoiled by the stilts !!! impossible to change rooms because all beach villas have the same view! In the main restaurant there is a huge lack of choice! It's always the same dishes that come back !! The beaches are very small and are not beautiful. To finish, here are the photos of the surprise that we had the last day the state of the mattresses on which we slept !!!
A relaxing, beautiful place to spend our holiday. All staff were so genuinely friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Whilst our stay was spoiled by a couple of days of rain and consistent windy conditions we could, however, still see the quality of the resort. The room (tree villa) was amazing, the speciality restaurants (Dr Ali and Fashala) were stunning, the staff were friendly and helpful, the management was visible and approachable. As a Shangdi-La resort you can be proud - it's a great place. However, for us it was not the typical "no shoes" Maldivian experience we were looking for. The main paths were hard and stoney so you couldn't go barefoot and, presumably because everyone relied on buggies to get around, there was no feeling of togetherness: the room is great but it's over here, the restaurant is great but its over there, the beach is great but it's over there, the golf course is great but it's way over there. All individually good but just don't come together as a coherent unit. In conclusion, Villingili Resort is like a great hotel, just with it's constituent parts separated by paths and jungle! But for travellers like us looking for the typical no shoes experience it's missing a tick in the most important box......
Awesome,Amazing. I recommend 100%
I will do it again and again
friendly staff
And really I cannot forget all that moment
Luxury Resort, with very friendly staff n beautiful place. Good food, best for snorkeling and scuba diving. Lots of dolphins during sunset n cool live music.... Lovely place to be !
I spent my honeymoon there, and it was perfect place to spend.
I wish I can go there again.
Honeymooned at Villingili and were not disappointed. Having stayed a week, my recommendations to first-timers would be:
1) take full advantage of all the classes/workshops/demonstrations on the island. Not only are they super interesting, but a way to connect with the island itself. I highly recommend the coconut climber demonstration! Coral planting is also really cool.
2) Order dinner in. Have it delivered to your room and eat on your deck. It's a little less expensive (not that it really matters) than going out to a restaurant and you can just relax and enjoy the view in comfy clothes.
3) The north end of the island is the best for snorkeling. Go there!
INCREDIBLE - I have travelled extensively and have never encountered such exceptional customer service. Daniel Boller was generous and arranged a private cooking class with Sadi Kumar - pastry chef who was amazing and kind and highly skilled. From the moment we entered the resort to the time we left we were treated like top priority guests. I will definitely be back and recommend anyone looking at the Maldives to look no further, as you won t get better.
Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful holiday and amazing experience all round.
Our honeymoon at Shangri-La s Villingili Resort & Spa was sensational!
My husband and I highly recommend this resort. From our very first greeting at the Male airport, all the way to arriving at the resort, staff were always helpful and happy.
Restaurant staff, bar staff, Turtle Quest Staff, Massage staff - fantastic! Thank you to all!
Facilities were amazing, we stayed in the Tree Top Villa for 4 nights and loved the privacy and being in the middle of the jungle with the ocean by our side and having our own infinity pool!
We then moved to an Overwater Villa for our final 2 nights and also loved the room and having direct access to snorkeling at our back door and were lucky enough to have some turtles swimming around very close to our room.
Thank you to everyone at Shangri-La Villingili for making this a once in a life time escape for my husband and I!
Resort is super awesome, the hospitality, food and etc were all amazing. However I would like to mention that the detailing and services of Ala-host Mr. Iyan were not appropriate he need to work upon the same. Else all was very amazing. Thanks a lot.
This resort is paradise, there are no two-ways about it. My wife and I are here for our honeymoon and we have been treated like a King and Queen.
All the staff go above and beyond to ensure we are happy and this seems to come very naturally to them. The staff are a credit to themselves and the management team.
The food is incredible and some of the best cuisine I have ever tasted, and a great variety to choose from considering the size of the island. The kitchen staff are very experienced and seem to love what they do.
The entire resort is immaculate and truely luxurious. If you want luxury, this place is it, you get what you pay for!
I do hope we are able to visit again in the not-too-distant future. A serious place to reset and recharge your batteries.
The water villa was amazing, the room was beautifully presented and always cool (the air conditioning works great). It was a little annoying that there was routine maintenance and the power was off for a few hours one day but we understood that it needed to be done. The power shorted out another time and was out for a few hours which also was not desirable but it did not ruin our experience. The staff were all fantastic, having a villa manager made us feel like we had someone to talk to if we needed but everyone else was friendly and helpful as well. Housekeeping was fantastic, the service at Javvu was always incredible. So happy with our stay, the resort went above and beyond to make us feel special.
Very good experienced stay at Maldive with Shangri-La resort. nice stuff (start from arrival until departure). big room with clean and tidy house keeping to make myself and my wife feel more comfortable when sleep. thank for the arrangement to upgrading us from deluxe pool villa to the water villa. that a very surprise and many thank for the Shangri-La management team arrangement. very good taste for the breakfast and fruit juice, the mango juice i like it more... Superb ...........
Well done mans...............
The best resort ever, there are many events and restaurants, a very luxurious and beautiful resort, I would recommend everyone to visit.
The staff is very kind, the environment is first class, there are beaches and swimming pools, golf course, snorkeling can see a lot of fish and turtles, honeymoon first class
Shangri-La Hotel, Addu atoll Villingili and Gomaahera from air
It was nice, pleasant and relaxing experience. Employees are very welcoming and friendly. they took care of us from Male airport to the resort then back to the departure gate of our international flight. Villa was excellent and spacious and free internet covers all resort's area. Overall, the resort was good choice for our holiday.
Just checked out. I ll try to be fair in my review. First and foremost, if you have issues with mosquitoes and sand flies, this is not the place to enjoy. It s a unsolvable problem, and the hotel provides mosquitoes coil and electric repellent in the rooms.
The Good :
(1) Superb beach resort. Nice setup. Nice beach ... in fact it s the best beach I ve seen.
(2) Those food that are nice, they are really nice. Best in culinary standards.
(3) The staffs are all very gentle, polite and friendly.
(4) A range of water activities which a typical beach resort should have.
(5) Twice housekeeping a day. All the amenities and towels are replenished and room cleaned twice daily.
(6) The best F&B Assistant Director around to address any / all F&B issues. Super nice guy. Very professional.
The Not-So-Good :
(1) Mosquitoes sand flies problem.
(2) Long wait for buggy. Need lots of patience. The buggy usually come only after 10-15mins upon calling. During the checkout, the buggy took 25-30mins to arrive.
(3) Some restaurants are under staff. As a result, service level will be affected.
(4) Not every dish on the menu is superb, regardless of the price tag. QC improvement is needed. Non-consistency across the range of food offered.
There was even a small broken plastic bit found in my daughter s pasta.
As the rates here are several folds higher than the typical 5-star hotels, my expectations are naturally higher. Combining both the Good and the Not-So-Good review, I am honestly quite disappointed. Therefore, the best I can rate is only 4 stars (3.5 stars to be exact).
nice view and feel fresh..but only a richman just be there..i wish i'll be there like a richman...hahahaha
Only the Reason I Comments here is, my relatives working there and they shared about their happy customers feedback,
Addu City is very famous to British, China, India Indonesia and Some Asian Countries. Cos of It's History. And this Amazing City has it's own International Airport, Sea Port, Business Centers, Hospitals, and morover the Friendly Locals and Guset Related many options provided by its people in local linked Islands. So we guess it's the main reason that Shangri-La Hotels choose its main Hotel in Addu City, Maldives.

Overall, our stay at the Villingili Resort and Spa was very enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it . The only thing that let it down was the way I was treated when I had to make an unplanned visit to the medical centre.
We had already called service to tell them i would like to see the doctor and to request a buggy to take us there but when we arrived the centre was in darkness.
After the doctor arrived and had examined me and diagnosed a gum infection he prescribed me with two types of antibiotics and prescription painkillers. We asked him for a receipt so that we could claim off our medical insurance when we arrived home and he assured us that it would be waiting for us at reception when we checked out on the coming Sunday.
He then called for a buggy to take us back to our villa and asked us to wait outside for it to arrive and started turning off the lights.
Outside I was shivering with cold even though it was 28degrees and I was wearing a wooly cardigan and leaning on my husband for support.
Luckily, one of your lovely resort staff came and asked me if I was ok and I said that I felt unwell and had just been prescribed medication by the resort doctor and was waiting for a buggy to take us home.
The lady told us to come back into the medical centre and take a seat while we waited for the buggy to collect us and also chased up the buggy which had still not arrived.
When we came to check out on the Sunday we asked for the medical receipt only to be told that the doctor had not forwarded to the reception and would we mind waiting for it?.
We agreed as we had an hour before our taxi to our next accommodation on the main island of Gan/Seenu had been booked to collect us for the journey.
After forty five minutes of waiting the very helpful man (Ashrav?)on reception happened to mention that the general manager of the resort was in the nearby bar so I went over and explained the situation to him.
He was great and organised drinks for us and refunded all the money that I'd spent on the medical bills and also explained to us that the service provided by the medical centre has to be outsourced to a private provider.
Ashrav also phoned up our accommodation on the main island and explained that we were running late and organised the boat to leave immediately without having to wait for anyone else.
Overall, our stay at Villingili was definitely one to remember. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful, it's just a shame that the service at the outsourced medical centre let your reputation down.
We would definitely recommend the resort to family and friends, just hope that they don't require the services of the medical centre.
Horrible service. Always wrong order. Very late. No variety of restaurants because only a maximum of 2 restaurant open at a time. Plus one of them is usually a buffet. Rooms are also dirty and ceiling leaking.
Beach is so dirty there is no way you can swim in it. It s not only dirty from the seaweed but also the rubbish from the neighboring island I assume which is plastic bottles, wrappers, Aliminuim foil, other plastic garbage. Plus the place smells like sewage sometimes.
Found cockroaches in the room two days in a row until something was done about it and strangely small thin worms in the toilet.
Staff did try their best later and some were very nice but definitely not the standard I was expecting.
At nearly two miles (3km) long and with a landmass of 12 hectares, Villingili Island is a giant by Maldivian standards.
Fringed by coral reefs and blessed with white-sand beaches and towering forest, it's the archetypal tropical island escape.
It's also an isle of superlatives, being home to the nation's southernmost resort and its highest point, five-metre "Mount Villingili".
The island where the resort is located is perfectly manicured and it has this feel good feeling. The houses are very well set up and very comfortable. Air-conditioning is working perfectly and the wi-fi is very efficient considering where it is located. The service is outstanding, very attentive without being too much. The food is quite nice and the wine and cocktail list is extensive enough to please everyone. The only downside are the prices but that is not specific to this hotel but a common occurrence in the Maldives. As an added bonus, this resort features a 9 holes golf course in a stunning location.
