At nearly two miles (3km) long and with a landmass of 12 hectares, Villingili Island is a giant by Maldivian standards.
Fringed by coral reefs and blessed with white-sand beaches and towering forest, it's the archetypal tropical island escape.
It's also an isle of superlatives, being home to the nation's southernmost resort and its highest point, five-metre "Mount Villingili".
